  1. I've been into fountain pens for about a year now, and I'm looking to buy my first serious pen. Something around the 230-250 dollar range would be ideal. Any suggestions
  2. I feel weird promoting myself, but I think I've come up with a way to make a Quiver-style pen holder for a notebook cover out of duck tape and a piece of elastic. So I thought I'd share and maybe get some feedback. I'm going to the craft shop tomorrow; I'll get some elastic and try making one myself.

How Much Is This Pen Worth?

Hi Fountain Pen Network, I buy and sell second hand stuff, but more the collectible stuff and not just (bleep). So I recently bought this set of a fountain pen in a second hand shop for 8€. I am a total newbie to this sort of product and I would like to know how much I can sell it to collectors, on ebay or whatever. The trademark of the product is ''Senator regent''. In the set is: - Ink (Royal Blue-washable 1fl oz.) - Filler - Something I don't know - And a full brass bottle. It is unopened and unused, All the seals are unbroken as I can see it. But the packaging seems to be good condition, not really mint or near mint. The brass bottle is also not in the best condition because something seems to wear off. Please tell me something about the parts, the history of the trademark and this product if you know something, and the price I might be able to sell this for. Thanks a lot for your help! Jacob
  5. I just won an auction for a nice vintage Easterbrook J. Before I pay for it I would like some advice from some more experienced people. I know nothing about replacing ink sacs and such so would buying this pen be a good idea? Are vintage ink sacs cheap? Are they easy to replace? The seller says he has never used it. Here ia a link to the pen: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271729930323
  6. Sorry about the sub-par pictures. It appears I scuffed up the lens on my iPhone and that is my only camera, so I’m doing my best. This is not meant to be a formal review, but rather an overview of a pen that I’m really enjoying. The ink shown in all of these pictures is Noodler’s Upper Ganges Blue, which I have become quite fond of and is great for a demonstrator because it doesn’t look like just black in in the barrel. Overall I think this pen is wonderful and I would gladly buy it again. But, it’s not for everyone… Appearance The Vac is a goofy looking pen, no doubt about that. The cap and filling knob have facets while the barrel does not, the clip is brushed and all other metal parts are shiny, there’s a strange bulbous bit in the middle, etc. But somehow it all winds up just working for me. While some may be annoyed that it is only available in various shades of demonstrator, I am too distracted by watching my ink slosh around to be bothered… Filling Admittedly, the vacuum filling mechanism was a major reason I got this pen. I’m still getting used to it, but it is effective and a fun little novelty. Also, if you want to fill from a small sample it is easy to fill with a blunt tipped syringe without any mess. The pen is also really easy to take apart so that you can thoroughly clean all the little parts out when you change inks. It’s so slick and makes me want to start taking apart other pens… Nib I bought this pen with a 1.1 mm stub which was buttah smooth and very wet. And a bit too broad for my daily writing so I switched to a M. Still very smooth and no flow problems at all except for Salix, which seems to just be a bad fit for this pen. I’m glad that, at least in my limited sample size of N = 2, I have not experienced the horrible flow issues that other people report with TWSBIs. General writing experience I think this is so far my favorite pen to write with. It fits my hand very well (no hint of the issues I feared with step from section to barrel), good weight, nice nibs that are easy to swap, and a big ink capacity. Not sure what else I could ask for! This pen was purchased with my own money and I am not being compensated for this review in any way. All opinions expressed above are my own and you are free to disagree with them if you want.
  7. http://i.imgur.com/ohVDjB3.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/vjYnoSU.jpg Sorry for the blurry photos. My only camera is an old phone that doesn't focus. I found this pen among some of my father's stuff. It has USA written under the Cross logo above the clipper. Does anyone have any idea which model this is?
  8. I have been using my Pilot Elite 95s for a while now and I absolutely love it, but I think it's time to kill my wallet again. The main problem with me not being able to find a pen that I like is that I have fairly specific tastes and it's hard to satisfy them when I don't have a million dollars. My requirements/preferences are as follows: -must be <$300. Preferably I want something that is <$200, but I want to expand my horizons just to see if there is anything that absolutely blows me away. -relatively fine italic nib, maybe 1.1mm (I have been using a fine nib on my Pilot and I want some more interesting lines while not getting too thick) -Blue with gold trim (or alternatively white with blue accents and gold trim) I like the classy look of the burgundy/gold/white of my current driver but I want something more colourful and fun this time around. -Average or above average length. I like having my pens slim/sleek and noticeably longer than they are thick. I personally don't like fat pens. -Must be able to post it. I hate the fear of dropping or misplacing my cap. It also increases the length of the pen which I like. That should pretty much exhaust my preferences. I'll just leave it at that as I would like to see as many options as possible!
  9. I decided to take some pictures while I was making a simple pen box for my father's birthday. I was so happy when I found a Parker 45 (that was in great aesthetic and functional condition) for my father's 45th birthday. But there was no box so I needed to make one myself. If you want to give away fountain pens without a box, maybe this simple tutorial can help you. I managed to finish this box under one hour and I spent nothing, every material and tool that I used was found at home. 1. Materials needed: - coloured cardboard - some kind of foam (polystyrene, thick cardboard, etc) - piece of old paper (for the greeting card) - any kind of textile - a few pins - short leather strip (or any other material that you think will work) 2. Tools needed: 3. Making the cutting plans for the box (dimensions in centimetres): 4. The bottom part cut and prepared for folding: 5. The bottom part folded and prepared for glueing: 6. Top part cut and prepared for folding: 7. Top part folded and prepared for glueing: 8. Cut the foam to the interior dimensions of the bottom part: 9. Cut the groves in the middle of the foam with the sharp blade, two cuttings at an angle of 45 degrees: 10. Take the piece of textile and cut it to the dimensions so it covers the foam. After it is positioned fix it to the foam using some pins. Install the leather strip in the same way: 11. Take the greeting card, write whatever you want in it and glue it in the inside of the top cardboard piece: (the inscription 'Boldog születésnapot' means Happy birthday in hungarian) 12. Put the top part on the bottom part and you're finished : I know it is nothing special or fancy, but it is simple, cheap and fast to make if you need a basic gift box. Hope I was helpful for somebody. Have a nice day!
  10. Hey, I take a lot of notes at school, and usually carry cheap, lined paper sheets in my binder. My inks tend to have a lot of bleedthrough and feather on the cheap paper, and i was wondering if there is a company that sells lined paper sheets made for fountain pens. I know i could just use a notebook, but it makes it frustrating not being able to have individual sheets to work on. If anyone knows of any paper that would suit my needs, please leave a responce. Thanks Mutton

    Pen Block

I do a little woodworking of my own and I really liked the work that Mike Dudek at clickypost.com does so I decided to try making a block of my own and this is what I came up with. I started with two pieces of walnut, one longer than the other that I glued together, then planed down. I made a couple of mistakes with keeping the holes in line but, c'est la vie. I overestimated the size of holes that I would need for my bigger pens so I wouldn't include the larger holes again. I realized that I had included too many of the largest holes so I cut the last row of them in half to make a kind of an architectural detail. I loved Mike's idea of a slot for my journal but I also wanted a narrower slot for correspondence or cards, that was why I made the whole piece longer. Mine doesn't have the kind of architectural bauhaus simplicity that Mike has designed into his but I am pretty happy with how it turned out. If you are interested you really should check his out at http://clickypost.com/the-store-1/ (No affiliation, just inspiration)
  12. Hi guys, Lord Z here with a pen I found on a park bench. (FOUND ANSWER TO FIRST PARAGRAPH) The pen has "Colibri" stamped around the base of the cap, just like it should. It resembles very old Colibri models, and uses an oil ink, in a discontinued tube. I cannot find a fit, however, so if you can figure out what it is, that would be great. This pen is a Colibri Le Grande in burgundy. It has a little bit of ink dried onto the cap, as well as scuff marks. I need to figure out if there is a way to deal with this, and how to get more ink. As recap (No pun intended), I need to figure out what model this pen is and anything else you can find on it, like price point, and how to clean it. One more question: is it sin to replace a ballpoint cartridge with a compatible rollerball? Thanks. Thanks, Lord Z
  13. I just won this on eBay on an impulse buy: http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=251750519294&txnId=0 Does anyone know the brand or model of this or is it unbranded? Thanks, Phillieskjk
  14. I was recently looking through my stationary and stumbled across a fancy-looking pen. Since I have no clue what the pen is other than it's a ballpoint I was wondering if some kind person could identify it.. Here Are Some Details: It's mainly back with gold rings at the top and center, it has a gold tip and clip with a blue ocean-like background in the middle which then fades back into black. On the clip it reads L'Plume which I can only guess is the brand. But when I search that on the internet all I find is fountain pens by that brand and can't find any information or pictures of this pen... Thanks - Hope someone can help!

    Waterman Pen Cap Logo

Does anyone know what this Blue 8 Logo means on this Waterman Rollerball pen cap?
  18. So, I was rummaging through my late father's belongings, and I came across this pen of his. My friends and I don't recognize the logo on this pen, and I'm having difficulty finding the answer with google. Thank you for your help in advance
  19. Well it's been about 3 and a half years ago since I bought my first fountain pen, a charcoal Safari, and since the addiction begun. I've been browsing the Hungarian online used market daily, and I can thank most of my purchases to that. Never even though about owning a big Pelikan, not to speak about Montblancs. Honestly I didn't really see why they were so popular and they are loved by many, but owning them changed my thinking! I'm feeling lucky for finding great deals and bargains on most of my pens, and I'm really grateful for it! (I hope it'll last...) Of course I've parted with a few...actually 4...I kind of regret selling my sailor 1911 though. My latest pen (912) arrived this week and I promised myself to go on a little diet. I don't know how long I can hold off though.... I need to find a better storage for them! Maybe this could be an excuse for my next purchase... I have a separate case for some, but most of them are sitting in this not too fancy little box. http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140511/P1180859_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg Rotring 600G - Butterline Stub by Pendleton from a fine nib Rotring 600 EF Lamy 2000 EF Lamy Safari 1.5mm Pelikan M600 old style 18k F Pelikan M400 Tortoise EF Pelikan M600 M Pelikan M800 Tortoise F Montblanc 146 monotone 14c OM Montblanc 146 F by John Sorowka Montblanc 146 LeGrand Broad Stub by John Sorowka Montblanc Masterpiece 644G EF Pilot Custom Heritage 912 PO Pilot Vanishing Point EF Turcsány Hungarian button filler And my inks.... What's The Deal With The 51's Amber Jewel?

Hi all, I've already got a Parker 51 which I enjoy using very much. I was looking at the amber jewel that I've seen on some of the 51s and wanted to know if the amber jewel signified anything in particular, or was it's placement purely for aesthetics? Thanks, Badger

    Pen Case

So I've been looking for a pen case. I am considering the Nomadic PE-08. I want a pen case that can keep my fountain pens separate and I can throw in a few pencils, colored pencils, and markers somewhere. I also want a place to put my refills and erasers and such, and I want a good-looking pen case (preferably not leather). The main reason why I don't already have the Nomadic PE-08 is because it just doesn't look that good. Do any of you have any suggestions?
  23. Hi guys! First, I'm going to admit I know next to nothing about pens. Also the pics posted are in no particular order. I'm actually into metal detecting and had the fortunate luck of finding this Parker Vacumatic pen recently. Based on my (very) limited research, it appears to be WWII styling. Now some questions I have are: 1. Is it worth trying to get restored? It obviously has its issues being broken in half, being buried, etc. I'd bet it'd cost more to restore than it's worth eh? 2. Is it really WWII era? 3. Is the nib solid gold? All I see is Parker USA, and an arrow going to the tip. The very tip is also a white metal. 4. Is the band solid sold? I've heard it may only be plated, but for being buried for probably 50 years, there's no flaking and it looks solid. I cleaned the inside after it jiggles loose. I didn't polish the outside (I hope that's not a big no no). 5. Is the clip (not sure of the technical term) solid gold, or just plated? I would think they would be marked if solid gold if they were, but I'm not sure how these worked. Thank you for any help you can provide! I apologize for my lack of knowledge, but appreciate the opportunity to learn!

    Esterbrook 2550 Vs 9556

After experiencing how pleasurable the Esterbrooks are, I'm buying a dark grey Esterbrook J. I have a choice of nibs. I can get the 2550, 9556 and 2556 for the same price or a 2048 for an additional ~$50. At the moment I don't have an additional $50 (and as a leftie, I wouldn't have much use for a flex nib anyway), and I think that the 2556 is just a weaker version of the 9556, so that's out of the question too. So I managed to narrow the choice down to the 2550 (firm extra fine for bookkeeping) and the 9556 (firm fine, for fine writing). I'm looking for opinions and experiences. Which one should I get? How well do they perform? Is either of them scratchy?
