  6. Trying to free up my life to be able to get to this Will many people from here be attending? Having never been to a show, will I find many modern Japanese pens around (my particular interest)? I see lots of content related to Parkers, Shaeffers etc and pen turners/makers but not a lot about my beloved Nakaya, Pilot and Platinum pens. Regards, Bear
  7. The Atlanta Pen Show is this weekend and it looks like after 4 years of collecting Fountain Pens I will finally attend my first Pen Show. Since Atlanta is the closest one, I believe it will be a good one to start with. I am not sure that the DC Super Show would be a great choice as my first show as I am sure a large show like that, would be even more overwhelming. Perhaps it will be best to wade into the show arena slowly. Although I am new to the Pen Shows, I am no stranger to collector shows. I have been collecting World War II Militaria since 1994 and have attended over 100 shows from the smaller ones with 200 tables to the O.V.M.S. International Show of Shows with over 1,600 tables and vendors, collectors, and veterans from all over the globe attending. I have read all of Richard Binders articles on attending your first show and found them to be very helpful. I feel somewhat prepared but I have discovered that Pen Shows are somewhat different than Militaria Shows so I do have a question or two that I cant seem to find an answer for. 1.) Do vendors and collectors trade on items? I have read or have heard in pod casts that vendors trade among themselves but I have not found where they mention trading with the public or collectors. For example: As a collector I may have a late 1800 / early 1900 Watermans reddish brown ripple/wood grain eyedropper in excellent condition but would rather have a Pelikan 100 tortoise shell. Is it common for a collector to offer a dealer with the Pelikan a trade deal or is that frowned upon in the Pen World? The same with parts. If I have 2 Sheaffer balance striped pens that are in solid condition, great nibs but missing a cap would a dealer be inclined to take them in as trade on an early Parker 51 cap? I asked because in my short time of collecting, I consider myself lucky on finding pens and have accumulated nearly 300 vintage pens in various makes, values and periods and it is time to get more focused. In the Militaria world, the vendor/collector trade is usually where some of the best deals are for both vendor and collector alike. 2.) I will be staying at the hotel to support it and the show but would like to carry a small messenger style bag to carry some of the pens I may want to have repaired, some pens I may want to ask someone with more experience in collecting than me questions about, and if trades happen perhaps some that I would want to use as trade value. And of course add new pens to. In photos on line, I do not see anyone carrying bags. Is it allowed or considered a security risk? 3.) I plan to leave Knoxville Friday morning and arrive in ATL around 11:00am. It appears the show opens to the public at 12:00PM. I plan to attend the show again Saturday morning then return home Saturday evening. By doing that, will I really miss anything big that happens on Sunday (except the drawing)? That is all I can think of at the moment. I look forward to attending. I found over the years in the Militaria Collecting that after a while, it becomes just as much about the friends you have made along the way as it does the item you bring back home in your bag. I am a bit on the introvert side but look forward to meeting new folks with the same interest in pens. Thank you for your time & sorry if it was too long winded. :^)
  8. I heard a rumor at the December meeting of the Arkansas Pen Club that Henry Simpole would be at the Little Rock Pen Show, February 27th & 28th, 2015 at the North Little Rock Wyndham Hotel. For more information visit the Arkansas Pen Club website at http://www.arkansaspenclub.com/. - Grayling

Plzeň / Pilsen Pen Display; February 2, 2012

Dear all, Couple of years back, my friend http://www.debashishchaudhuri.com/ who - among other things - is a true pen expert, invited me to take part in this tiny pen show he was then asked to arrange. It was presented during an event where guests did not expect it, but thanks to Debashish´s work, it turned out to be a success. Here are some pictures, if you are interested: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lamy_fp/sets/ or: Plzeň - pen display; Feb. 2, 2012: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lamy_fp/sets/72157649142264756/ Kind regards, Jan My FLICKR account. 12. We are thrilled to announce that admission to Scriptus 2014—only three months away—will be entirely free of charge! The Scriptus team is committed to making the show as accessible as possible. While certain measures, such as wheelchair ramps and elevator access, are obvious requirements for an event like this, we feel that other factors also need to be considered. While economic woes are considered by many to be in the recent past, the reality is that charging admission to a pen & writing show will exclude some who want to attend. Writing is a basic form of communication, and we are privileged to live in a part of the world where it is considered a basic ability. With this in mind, why shouldn’t it also be basic to have access to the finest writing tools? At Scriptus we will have vendors from across North America with the best quality writing equipment, the finest stationery, the most vibrant inks, and the greatest excitement in sharing what they have to offer. And we are thrilled to welcome anyone interested; come join us, without exclusion. Part of our mission statement—the one the show administration discusses in private—is that we consider event quality as more important than profit. Greater accessibility means more people, more interest, and a higher profile for pens and writing in Canada; all hallmarks of quality in a show like this. Additionally, the excellent venue provides full control over crowd flow, and the management of any possible crisis. We have the utmost confidence that this admissions policy will contribute to the show’s resounding success. So put Sunday, November 2, 2014 on your calendar, and join us at Scriptus 2014, Toronto’s pen & writing show! For more information, visit: scriptustoronto.com

    Lwes 2013

The London Writing Equipment Show (LWES) takes place on Sunday October 6th at the Bloomsbury Holiday Inn London. Please note that it unlike last year the show takes place on SUNDAY. Probably the big attraction this year will be Sheaffer's Centenary Exhibition with lots of pens and stuff from their archives along with their Centenary LE pens. The show just seems to get bigger and better every year. Lots of UK and overseas dealers al with hundreds of pens to look at - heaven! I will be stuck on the WES table most of the time so make sure that you stop by and say hi. Ian www.wesonline.org.uk
  14. Ok, I have only been going to pen shows for 23 years. Been to over 50 pens shows, so maybe BEST SHOW EVER, may not be a hundred percent accurate, but it was the BEST SHOW I have been too. If you were not in SF this weekend, ask someone who was!
  15. I tried to get some valuable info about it, but kind of not found anything useful. Does someone could tell me about more, what can I expect? Is it worth to go? The third will be in 26th Oct. 2014, and Wien is close, so I thinking about to going, but would love to hear some inside story or see some pictures. That could be my first pen show.

We are trying to get a Posse meeting scheduled for August (or thereabouts) and someone has already announced a "first annual" show for October! http://www.coloradopenshow.com
  17. Hi everyone, I plan on going to my first pen show sometime soon. There's one coming up in San Francisco that's relatively close to where I live. What should I expect at the pen show and how should I prepare? What kind of pens show up there? Is there any sort of etiquette I should follow? I am a beginning collector that has recently ventured into the Lamy 2000, Pilot VP/Decimo, Platinum #3776, Pelikan M200 range of pens. I have never spent more than $150 on a pen and have no experience with vintage pens. I would appreciate any tips or suggestions. Thanks!
  18. It seems like just yesterday that we announced the date of Scriptus 2014. In the months since then, we have been steadily working towards the November show, and are happy to announce what you may have noticed in the sidebar of the Scriptus website: a list of our five major sponsors: Kaweco, Laywine's, Phidon, Staedtler, and Stylo.ca. We are thrilled to have such enthusiastic support from such stalwart pillars of the pen & writing community, both in Toronto itself and across Canada! Arrangements for the show are coming together well. We have over half of the available tables confirmed, and plenty more interest. It looks like there will be a wide variety of exhibitors, so there will be something for everyone. We are pleased to announce a listing of all exhibitors to date on our website, at: http://scriptustoronto.com/who/exhibitors We will be updating the list as new exhibitors join us, so keep your eyes here for the latest updates. As well, we are finalizing posters and flyers, so that news about the show will be spread far and wide. So, if you haven't already done so, mark your calendar for November 2: Scriptus Toronto is on track, and nothing will get in it's way!
  19. The Second Annual Poland Pen Show in Katowice is coming up fast - April 12-13, 2014. I don't know how many of my U.S. Pen Posse friends will attend (Hello? Anyone? Anyone?), but I know Sarj and Jas (of England) will be there with amazing pens (I think everyone knows Sarj and Jas). Here are some details from the Poland Pen Show facebook page: For exhibitors: 200 PLN (25 euro) (payable at the door) includes 2m exhibition space, hot beverages (coffee, tea), lunch, and, on Saturday night, dinner and a party. (I like to call such things "Pen Posse," but it's a chance to hang out, eat, make new friends, and talk with old friends.) I'm told that exhibition space is getting very limited, so if any vendors or traders are reading this and want to attend, please e-mail me. And check out the Pen Show Poland page on facebook, if you use facebook: Pen Show Poland. P.S. I am a Pen Posse Ambassador, not a paid spokeswoman for PSP or the Polish fountain pen board, Forum O Piorach. My connection is in friendship and the furtherance of fountain pen culture.

    Nib Help For A Nubie

I am a newly addicted FP enthusiast with a few entry level pens. I am so excited about the Baltimore Pen Show coming up on Saturday because I've never been to a show and I'm hoping to pick up many goodies (paper, a pen case, some ink etc.) One thing makes me nervous though. I have a Sheaffer Safari that writes incredibly well compared to my other pens and I get bummed when I write with the others because they are scratchy in comparison even though all are M nibs. I would love to have someone look at/adjust these other pens but I'm not sure how it will be received if I ask someone to tune a nib on a Lamy Safari and a Duke Carbon Fiber. Will people get annoyed if I ask for an adjustment on a couple $30 pens? Is it even worth it? Sorry for such elementary questions, just trying to avoid a little embarressment. What is a normal price range for a typical nib repair? Thanks so much! I can't wait for the show…...
  22. Next February 22, ACPS (Italian Pen Collectors Association) will held its first 2014 Pen Show in Milan. The event will open at 11.00 AM and close at 6.30 PM. The show will be at the AC Marriot Hotel, Via Tazzoli 2, Milan Italy (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/milmi-ac-hotel-milano/) Regards Simone
  23. I'm going up tomorrow. I'm looking to pick up a set of Pilot Parallels and look a the Pilot Justus. I want to see the Onotos Magna that Richard Binder has as I'm seriously considering one. Other than that, I'm just looking for a mid-winter break and to test out the two primary Philly Cheesesteak rivals (wit cheese wiz and the other one). Who else is going and what are you looking for?
