  1. I haven't seen any post about it yet, but the Colorado Pen Show is coming up in a few weeks: October 6-8, 2017, in Denver at the Double Tree Stapleton North. http://www.coloradopenshow.com
  2. Hi, I got the ok to note that Papier Plume will be releasing a new ink for the the Miami Pen Show on July 14th. the new Ink is called "Red Beans and Rice" here is a picture of the bottles This would not be a limited ink as they plan to make a large batch of it, BUT they did said that when it's gone, it'll be gone for a while. I'll post a splash of the ink later tonight and do plan to post a review of this ink later this week!. Hope this will be of interest Here are some samples, first glance , good saturation, good texture, mild shading Col-o-ring http://i.imgur.com/iXSXUVp.jpg Rhodia http://i.imgur.com/ItHBsZH.jpg Tomoe River http://i.imgur.com/1yAvxpj.jpg Cheers Jack
  3. This will be my first pen show! I hope it will be busy with lots of stalls selling vintage and modern pens, cases, inks and papers. I hope there will be lots of people to chat to and I hope to have a great day. Lichfield looks a really pretty town and I'll look forward to seeing the cathedral and the Tudor buildings, and having lunch somewhere. I'm looking to grow my collection (which consists of: a Sheaffer Prelude, chrome with gold trim, with a gold plated nib, with some of the gold worn off, a TWSBI Eco, a Parker Frontier, with lots of scuffs and a nib which refuses to start well, and a Cross Sauvage which has seen heavy use). I'm looking for a really nice Parker Vacumatic, or a Parker 51, or maybe something modern like a Visconti Van Gogh or a Waterman Carene. Is there a good mix of vintage and modern at the show? Anyway, hope to see you there If you see a sheepish, youngish, bespectacled, bearded chap in a hoodie looking shifty, that's probably me!
  4. This weekend, June 18, 2017 Dromgoole's is hosting a pen event with David Oscarson! He will be showcasing his newest pen the Koi. We expect him to have a few colors and this is a beautiful pen! Atlanta Pen Show

Hi, I'm going to my first pen show this year in Atlanta. But, the website doesn't have a lot of information about it, so I was hoping that I could get some information about vendors who will be there and recommendations for things to be sure to see from people who've been before. Thanks.
  6. All, Is there going to be a Portland, Oregon, pen show this summer? I live in Seattle and would drive or (way more fun) take the train down. I also ask if someone would tell me where and when Seattle club members get together and if newcomers are welcome. I have seen a couple of references to the Seattle get together but without specific contact or schedule information. EDIT- found the upcoming meeting page for Seattle group! jonathan7007
  7. Hi, I saw that the Long Island Pen show for 2017 is scheduled for April 1st and 2nd [LINK]. http://www.lipenshow.com/images/LIpenshowlogo2014b.jpg I haven't been to this show for over 5 years. Thinking of going this time. How large is it, compared to the old NY/NJ pen shows that used to be scheduled?
  8. The Arkansas Pen Show has moved to a new venue & a new date. March 17 - 19, 2017 at the Little Rock Crowne Plaza. Visit www.arkansaspenclub.com for up-to-date information. #arkansaspenshow2017 #arkansaspenshow #arkansaspenclub #penaddict #fpgeeks #fountainpen #calligraphy #handwriting #vintagepen #vintagefountainpen #crowneplaza
  9. I'm tempted to head over to the 2017 Cambridge Pen Show before meeting up with a friend for food (he's not in to pens). What can I expect there, or more accurately will it be mainly vintage pens being sold or will there also be the online pen shops selling new pens and ink ? Also are there ever any guest pen manufacturers at these (such as Franklin Christoph).
  10. OK - I got tired of waiting for someone else to start the thread - so I figured I'd do it myself. Last year the show fell on on the only weekend that we had significant snowfall - so I missed the show for the first time in many years. Who's going to the http://philadelphiapenshow.com/ and what's on your list? I haven't thought through my list yet - other than the fact that R&K Blue Mare will probably be on it. I also will definitely being looking at http://www.franklin-christoph.com/ and http://stores.rkspens.com/. I think I also need a Lamy Safari - because I think all FP fans should have one. Anyone care to share your list?
  11. Hype! I am very hyped for this show, for this will be my first pen show. I've read in the 2015 that YOL and Conid will be there, along with others like Henry Simpole and Penamie. From the pictures it seems like the age group is slightly older though... Hope to make some friends Who are going to do nib works there? I am thinking about getting my L2K grinded to a Japanese F... So who's planning to go? And old-timers, could you tell me how it works and what to expect?

    Sf Pen Party

Last Friday, Saturday and Sunday was a Pen Party in San Francisco. Ohhhhh, there was a pen show there too. The tireless efforts of Syd, Ricky, and Todd were beyond any pen show in the world!

    Pen Show Etiquette

Hi! Just wondering if I can get a clear picture of pen show etiquette. I have seen a few posts about show etiquette, but they haven't covered all of the topics I have questions about. I have attended one pen show and here are the questions that resulted: 1. Handling the pens - I am enquiring because most vendors didn't seem to care if we picked up the pens to look at them and their nibs. I saw many people posting pens and writing with dry or wet nibs on paper. However, I went to one table and began to pick up a pen (nothing too fancy, a Sailor Starburst if I remember correctly) and was heavily scolded by the man working the booth. Also, I witnessed a man get the same sort of scolding when he attempted to post a pen at a different booth. 2. Price shopping - There was a very specific pen I was looking for at the pen show I attended and only two vendors had the pen. One vendor was asking significantly more than the other, despite the fact that they were both brand new pens. The less expensive vendor sold the pen I wanted while I was looking around and trying to make up my mind, so I went to the other vendor and asked if he would price match what the other vendor had offered. He immediately asked me who gave me that price and stormed off to his table when I told him who it was. I was left with my mouth hanging open and wondering if I had done something wrong. I don't know what resulted from the storming off, but again, I felt like I had done something wrong. 3. Lingering - is there a certain window of time that is acceptable or unacceptable to talk to vendors or look at their pens? I had to do A LOT of waiting to look at certain things and talk to certain people. However, when I got my turn, I felt like people were irritated with the amount of time I was spending (even though it wasn't more than anyone else). Is there a certain flow to pen show that most people follow? 4. Using a pen - is it okay to ask to use pen? Several vendors were inking up new pens and selling them, and other refused to ink up new pens. I understand why a vendor would not want to ink up a new pen, but i don't understand where the line is drawn. 5. Pre-Show - I know that for most shows (if not all) you can pay for early entry. Is there a special, more exclusive early entry? I have read that there are after-hours activities, or "pen parties" but don't know how to get involved. Are these parties exclusive, or can anyone attend? How can a person find out about these things as an attempt to get to know more people in the community? I think that's all I've got question-wise. Can't wait to hear what all of you have to say.

  23. Trying to free up my life to be able to get to this Will many people from here be attending? Having never been to a show, will I find many modern Japanese pens around (my particular interest)? I see lots of content related to Parkers, Shaeffers etc and pen turners/makers but not a lot about my beloved Nakaya, Pilot and Platinum pens. Regards, Bear
  24. The Atlanta Pen Show is this weekend and it looks like after 4 years of collecting Fountain Pens I will finally attend my first Pen Show. Since Atlanta is the closest one, I believe it will be a good one to start with. I am not sure that the DC Super Show would be a great choice as my first show as I am sure a large show like that, would be even more overwhelming. Perhaps it will be best to wade into the show arena slowly. Although I am new to the Pen Shows, I am no stranger to collector shows. I have been collecting World War II Militaria since 1994 and have attended over 100 shows from the smaller ones with 200 tables to the O.V.M.S. International Show of Shows with over 1,600 tables and vendors, collectors, and veterans from all over the globe attending. I have read all of Richard Binders articles on attending your first show and found them to be very helpful. I feel somewhat prepared but I have discovered that Pen Shows are somewhat different than Militaria Shows so I do have a question or two that I cant seem to find an answer for. 1.) Do vendors and collectors trade on items? I have read or have heard in pod casts that vendors trade among themselves but I have not found where they mention trading with the public or collectors. For example: As a collector I may have a late 1800 / early 1900 Watermans reddish brown ripple/wood grain eyedropper in excellent condition but would rather have a Pelikan 100 tortoise shell. Is it common for a collector to offer a dealer with the Pelikan a trade deal or is that frowned upon in the Pen World? The same with parts. If I have 2 Sheaffer balance striped pens that are in solid condition, great nibs but missing a cap would a dealer be inclined to take them in as trade on an early Parker 51 cap? I asked because in my short time of collecting, I consider myself lucky on finding pens and have accumulated nearly 300 vintage pens in various makes, values and periods and it is time to get more focused. In the Militaria world, the vendor/collector trade is usually where some of the best deals are for both vendor and collector alike. 2.) I will be staying at the hotel to support it and the show but would like to carry a small messenger style bag to carry some of the pens I may want to have repaired, some pens I may want to ask someone with more experience in collecting than me questions about, and if trades happen perhaps some that I would want to use as trade value. And of course add new pens to. In photos on line, I do not see anyone carrying bags. Is it allowed or considered a security risk? 3.) I plan to leave Knoxville Friday morning and arrive in ATL around 11:00am. It appears the show opens to the public at 12:00PM. I plan to attend the show again Saturday morning then return home Saturday evening. By doing that, will I really miss anything big that happens on Sunday (except the drawing)? That is all I can think of at the moment. I look forward to attending. I found over the years in the Militaria Collecting that after a while, it becomes just as much about the friends you have made along the way as it does the item you bring back home in your bag. I am a bit on the introvert side but look forward to meeting new folks with the same interest in pens. Thank you for your time & sorry if it was too long winded. :^)
