  1. I spent a few months looking for a molded leather pen case in order to carry one of my Nakayas with me in my bag. The silk Kimonos that come with the Nakayas are cute, but don't make for the most protective case. I searched the internet and found a couple of cases that fit my idea, but they were available in Japan only, had a waiting list of up to a year and cost about $400 USD (yikes). Much of what is available online is the basic flap fold-over design. It's a basic leather sock, some are quite floppy and, for the price, don't seem worth it to me. After looking for a long time, I decided to approach a leather maker to see if someone would make me what I was after. Because I was after a hard molded case, I approached makers of leather sheaths for knives. Not many of them care about fountain pens, and a few outright refused to do it. So I moved on. I finally found a custom leather maker whose stuff I came across while looking at examples. He hadn't done a pen case, but he had worked on a variety of leather projects and his molded leather examples were beautiful. Dave Hauser at Dragonthorn Leatherworks really jumped on the chance to design a protective pen case. It turns out he also loves fountain pens. He developed a novel idea, using kydex sandwiched between two layers of leather. Nice natural veg tanned leather outside and soft natural calf leather inside. I'm not sure how he did it, but you cannot tell that there is a hard molded layer of kydex in between the layers. The kydex is a material used to make gun holsters and knife sheaths. It is super light, hard and practically indestructible; and it holds its shape once it is molded. Here are the photos. This is still brand new, the colour will develop over time until it looks like my notebook (which started out looking the same as the case).

    Pen Pouch Identity

My mind is not retaining things beyond a couple of months. Does anyone remember getting pen pouches many years ago from a young woman who was located here in the USA, but the work was actually done by another young lady who was not located in the US? I purchased several of them several years ago. I want to say that the lady you connected with was in Ohio or a Midwest state. Somehow, she provided you with designs of fabric and you selected from them and then the pen case was made and sent to you, but like I said, I think the pen case itself came from outside of the US. I can not for the life of me remember her name, but I remember recently someone else who also had a couple of them and was selling several of them. I have two of them and want to put them up for sale, but I want to identify them and of course give her credit and it would be nice to also be able to identify the pen pouches. You could get them in two pens, and I want to say up to eight. I am including a picture. The Montblanc Pen case disregard, it will be three separate sales when I post them to classified, I want to identify the maker of the outside pen pouches.
  3. I've personally been on a three month long hunt to find that "Perfect Case" in which to carry my five favourite pens, the one's I use in rotation on a daily basis. I've purchased many cases over the years and for one reason or another, they've all failed to hit the spot for one reason or another. That was until this week, when I received my Kimono Pen Wrap, for some reason this one case seems right for me at the moment in time. Now I have to confess to a secret - I have a slight touch of OCD when it comes to cases - I know that at some-point in the near future I'll want another & the search will resume. Now I'm sure I'm at alone on this? Here's my collection of cases used daily, what are you using & why? Far left: Maxpedition EDC Pocket Organiser Mini - It's the total Armageddon day solution. Right top: Campo Marzio PU leather three pen case that cost £2.99 Right Middle: Kimono Fountain Wrap from Inthreadible on Etsy (my current personal Favourite. Right Bottom: Atelier De La Foret Pocket Pen Case, regret buying as the two pen case is better value.

    Pen Case!

So i've recently been on the quest for the perfect pen case (for myself) and seeing how expensive some of the pre-made ones were and not yet having the supplies for the one i am designing, i decided one night to make use of a fossil wallet case i had lying around! I might add also that i made this being completely free with just stuff around the house! Hinges, hot glue gun, newspaper, fabric, and Popsicle sticks! I thought you all would get a kick out of it and maybe inspire someone who didn't have the money to buy a case, like me...aka college student, to make one! Sorry for the sideways pictures also!
  5. I have four vintage cigar boxes that belonged to my maternal great-grandfather (whom I never knew) in the early 1900s. My husband has helped me repurpose one box and we'll eventually be working on the other three. I love that I was able to find a new use for these boxes. We bought acrylic spray, but I'm going to buy a shellac or varnish and brush it on, instead. We also bought balsa wood and felt. We made a frame for the inside of the box and my husband cut braces so the floor would be raised and dividers to separate the pens, which we glued in after I covered the floor with the felt. I really like the look and I even decided to keep the grease penciled 6/97 cents for added nostalgia and vintage appeal. The other three boxes will have floors that aren't as raised as the clips on my larger pens prevent the lid from closing properly so those boxes are where I'll store my larger pens like the Delta Mask and the Stipula and Bayard shown in the photo. Thanks for looking! http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee513/betweenthelens/IMG_5529.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee513/betweenthelens/IMG_5528.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee513/betweenthelens/IMG_5527.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee513/betweenthelens/IMG_5525.jpg
  6. So after fruitless Google searching for an acceptable Pen Wallet, I have now come to ask the FPN for a bit of help in this search. I am in need of a new wallet, as my current one is rather non-existent-- in other words, I finally amassed enough cards and other stuff to warrant a wallet! And now that fountain pens have entered my life, I want a Wallet that can hold a few pens as well! Also, I saw a pen wallet a FPN user had ages ago and never asked about it. As to who had it or its location on this website, that is a mystery to me now as well. I also know of the Franklin-Christoph Command Center folio, but that is not the thing I had in mind. But a wallet that can hold three pens would be perfect! I'm not looking for a dedicated pen case at the moment either. Any help/resources/ideas would be great! If nothing comes around, then I could perhaps make my own when I get the sewing machine back up and running. And maybe this thread could also assist those with the same question as well.
  7. Finally finished the 20 pen case I was developing. My roommates moved out during the Canada Day long weekend and it killed my creative time, and my muscles so I didn't feel up to a whole lot. Really happy with how it turned out. The joys of creating is going with the fabrics that you have lots of at the time. Hence the weird Grey/Teal combo, but I am planning on some more normal colours in the future. Let me know what you like, and what you don't like. I am not 100% committed to the design yet. I do really like how comfy all of my pens look in their new home. Cheers, Phil
  8. I wanted a single pen case to carry my fountain pens: Waterman Carène, Parker Premier and Caran d'Ache Leman. I found some interesting options, but had to import them. There was also another issue: I wanted a case that could also carry a spare cartridge. What I did was, based on this Lamy design, http://www.pensandleather.com/images/products/detail/lamy_dialog_pen_case_open.jpg asking for a tailor-made one at a good shoe shop at my hometown - these people know how to work with leather. They even put a kind of shammy inside, to keep the integrity of lacquer and external paiting. But what makes it really tailor-made, to my "specifications", was the little "pocket" to carry the cartridge: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii33/mmmcosta/Watches/PenCase_zps27acfdc3.jpg Not that beautifully finished, but very functional. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-cool14.gif Regards, Marcelo
