What is some good paper for both printing and writing? I have found worksheets online which will help me practice my handwriting but I want it to be good to write on. I've heard Tomoe River paper is kind of good for printing and amazing for writing so... Is that what I should go with? What should I do? Thank you!

Has anyone heard of or tried using fountain pen ink in Johanna Basford's 'grown up' colouring books (Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest)? The pictures look so whimsical and fun, and with all of the colour options that we have with fountain pen ink, it would be a blast to colour them in using a fountain pen and ink. Hi, I am going to build my own Midori-style notebook (to make it a bit wider) and also wanted to make my own inserts. But I'm not sure which paper to use for it. I like the paper in Rhodia Dot Pads, the Leuchtturm paper, that is in the thicker A5 notebooks and Clairefontaine in general. So I like a smooth, FP friendly paper (preferably dotted). So what paper can I buy in bulk (like a pack of 100-500 pages) that has these options? Do I just buy the A4 versions of these notebooks and cut them to my taste? That seems a bit silly to me. I would rather buy a bigger quantity of the paper these company source. I know they usually produce the paper themself and don't sell it separately but is there an option to buy loose sheets of paper that have similar properties? I would also like to have blank paper so I can print them myself. What I found is just cheap printer paper or the really expensive paper where 50 sheets cost about 20 bucks. Especially Clairefontaine Notebooks are great for their price. They are almost the cheapest option in Germany. So if anyone has an idea how to get to this paper? Thanks in advance. Sebastian

I'm a long time stationary lover and a newly qualified diver. So imagine my disgust to have to fill out a historically significant document (my dive log) on shiny paper with a BIC. I was wondering if there are any divers who have some good recommendations for dive logs that are actually enjoyable to keep and review?

I just got the Iroshizuku Chiku-rin for my Lamy 2000M with a medium nib, and the ink is GORGEOUS, but too wet for the notebooks I bought for school, and it bleeds through. Can anyone recommend a (preferably hardcover) notebook that is appropriate for school that can withstand really wet inks? Thanks!!

I've tried quite a few varieties of paper but can't seem to find one that works well enough for a left handed writer. I hold the pen very close to the nib, so quick dry time is pretty important. I really like using pilot iroshizuku ink and I'd really rather just focus on paper right now (although if you do have an intense color fast drying ink, I would like to read about that). What I find is that expensive paper has a higher dry time, so much so that it's impossible to write on with any pen except my Pilot Vanishing point. Cheaper paper (not the cheapest) like mead has very good dry time but has horrid streaking from the ink spreading. My question is, is there paper that's good for fountain pens and has quick dry times? For what I've found, this idea seems contradictory. Thank you everyone for your help and please note that, no I don't want to use blotting paper, tilt the paper on an angle, or adjust my writing style (which is pretty odd given I'm a Octopus grip side-writer).

On a whim in doing so studying, I decided to use some unopened filler paper I had lying around. While I'm at it, why not test the FP-friendliness of it? As most High School students know, Mead and all those other American brand looseleaf paper, just dont work with fountain pens. It can be difficult to find the right paper for High School note taking that is friendly to F.P users without spending $10 per notebook such as Clairefontaine. There is nothing wrong with this paper by anymeans, it just that some H.S students like myself don't feel like investing that much for each subject, which can be up to 5 notebooks, and there's $50 which can be spend on a new pen for example. I'm Happy to announce I FOUND THE SOLUTION! After doing some research I saw that people really like the Target brand filler paper (Up and Up). First stop was there. I grabbed said paper in wide and college ruled and also grabbed a Tops brand packet which was on sale. Next stop was Walmart. I grabbed every brand, ruling, and style I could grab to do a "official" review to help people out, who have the same problem as me. Here is a list of every brand I grabbed; Tops wide ruledUp&Up wide ruledNorcom wide ruledA Norcom sprial bound notebook ( 97 cents at Walmart)Exceed wide ruled with punch hole protectorsExceed College RuledPLEASE NOTE: I am NOT a professional, these results are only based on my High School experience, and is meant to help said people The chosen ink was Noodlers Baystate Blue, which is a very heavy thick velvety ink. The chosen pen was a High School favorite, the Platinum Preppy with a Fine Nib Here are the results: Up and Up Wide ruled. Little feathering, does show through a small amount, not ideal for two sided work2. Norcom Notebook Paper (from the 97cent notebook) no feathering, little bit more show through on back, same as Up and Up, good for one sided note taking.3. Tops Wide ruled Nearly no feathering, I was shocked how well it preformed so I pulled out my Jinhao X450, (another popular student pen) With a medium nib and Noodlers X Feather, just to see if I could make it feather and show through. Still no! This Paper works great, although it has an off white-yellow color to it, which isnt personally to me appealing.4. Norcom Filler Paper Noticeable feathering, massive bleed through. Not a good paper for Fountain Pens.I was starting to get sad, as I couldn't find a paper that worked for note taking, when I realized I still had the Exceed in the Walmart bag. Let the Results explain it to you; 5. Exceed wide and college ruled Only feathering noticed is when you get the paper about 3'' from your eyes, No see through, even on a Jinhao with a Medium nib and Baystate Blue, which is a strong ink. This paper feels like you are writing with a stick of butter on a hot pan, even on a Preppy. This Paper is 110% capable of double sided notes. This paper is also very smooth and the dry time is pretty quick. Conclusion: For double sided notes in High School with any nib and ink combination, Exceed will not let you down, I tested this result by writing a short biography of me with my Jinhao M nib and Baystate, I wrote front and back and it still appears to be legible. I would recommend this paper for High School students, or anyone who writes on a daily basis. Exceed will work better on finer nibs, which is more sutible for notes. I Hope this review helped anyone trying to find a good, cheap paper for note taking.

There isn't any good information on the internet on Indian brands which sell paper / notebooks which are fountain pen friendly, and so I wanted to start this thread. Please add your views / reviews. I am starting with Bilt Matrix Ledger (90 GSM) paper that I bought yesterday at an arts supply store. A ream of 500 pages cost me Rs. 275. (which the seller told me is the wholesale price) The paper is light greenish. Bilt Matrix 90 GSM Ledger Paper (21.5 CM X 34.5 CM) Bilt says the paper has good archival qualities Other uses. Finally, writing sample. Ink is Bril Royal Blue. Best Regards Rakshit

Hi, there: Does anyone know what type of paper Leuchtturm uses in their standard 1917 notebooks? I'm rather fond of writing on the stuff -- which is very nib friendly and versatile -- and would ideally like to buy it in sheets and reams. Maybe it was discussed before, but I couldn't find it. Could you recommend me letter set (envelope and paper). I Google it, but most letter sets are for children, more suitable one does not have enough information about paper quality. What I am looking for is more "classic" set. Envelope should not be too big (9 x 13 cm would be ideal). Paper should be smooth and suitable for writing with fountain or dip pen. Thank you!

I am asking Indian and other FPNers on their opinions on Fp friendly paper in India. I generally use 75 gsm TNPL A4 copier paper and 70 gsm classmate notebooks. They are ok for EF/F(western) nibs with dry inks. Once, I use some wet inks, i get feathering and bleedthrough. So, in your opinion which is the best fp friendly paper. Is ledger paper ok and what should be the minimum gsm for it to be fp friendly(like should be more than 80 gsm )

Finally, through no pre planning, I have wonderfully just finished cleaning 5 of my 8 writing beauties. Getting them ready for the next fill. Next step is to decide which ink will fill each pen. JOY! Two others were already waiting for the rest and have already been cleaned. There is only my Lamy still inked. Literally, standing at my kitchen sink, transfer pipette between finger tips, sink stopper in place so nothing crucial from any pen drops down to the abyss. While blissfully I cleaned out remnant of residual ink from each pen, thought, "wonder what others consider their most wonderful aspect of enjoying pens, paper, ink, etc.?" Having several, this one is one for me right now. The pleasure of the first alphabet letter written, once I have filled a favorite fountain pen with new ink; flow of the ink onto perfect paper; sound, feel when I open a new off white, unlined, quasi glossy, fountain pen friendly journal; sheer giddiness, when I open a brand new ink bottle. Well, as you can read, these are ones off the edges of my hat brim. What is your moment? What a way to begin, continue a new week, huh? Enjoy it and sharing your perfect blissful moment.

Hey all you brilliant paper fanatics out there... Has anyone tried the notebooks by the Productive Luddite that are listed on amazon? I would like to know more about them before I drop money on them. You all seem to be the best place in the world for info on paper, inks, pens, and the like... Any help would be appreciated. Paper quality - I do love my fountain pens, but I also use gel pens and different hardnesses of pencil leads so bleed through information would be great to have Paper weight estimate - not that I am that picky, but... Line width - for the paper with lines, I admit I do tend towards 6.5 to 6 mm line widths Grid or Dot width for the notebooks with those features, these have their place Binding type - perfect, thread, etc They look interesting, and I like the set-up for some of them, particularly the index and tagging concept. I've been browsing Goulet and my local pen store (Artlite here in Atlanta) for some stationary to write a particular letter, and it is of the utmost importance that it looks good, and coveys a sense of finality. In fact, I wish this letter to be a final one to the particular person(s) who will be receiving a variation of it. I have been wronged a great deal by several people in a position of power (and I will be leaving my vulnerable position before the letters have been posted), and I wish to convey, with the utmost formality, finality, and dignity, my extreme displeasure in having known them. I say this to give an overview of the content of the letters, so that the paper will match. I have been looking for something roughly A4 sized (it's going to be a long sort of letter) un-ruled, off white, and not unlike the Rhodia R line of paper, which people have come to recognize as mine, but is too thin and informal for my purposes, and perhaps a bit too yellow. Price is not an object, although I require only 10 or so sheets to accomplish what I wish to do. (However, low sheet count is not a requirement.) I've looked at G.Lalo and Original Crown Mill (cotton, not laid, and yes, I am aware of the texture of G.Lalo) and was wondering if something like Crane might be more suitable for the task, although I am shooting for something which they are not likely to see ever again, and Crane happens to be popular for letters of magnitude. I have no preference as to watermarked or not, so long as the paper is reserved and not flamboyant in tone. I especially like the color of G.Lalo Ivory, does anyone have this next to some of the Rhodia 90gsm or Clairefontaine regular white? I have tried and failed to like Triomphe, I just couldn't get myself to like it. I want something heavy-ish, but not cardstock. I have really grown to like the 90gsm Rhodia, but as this will be for one off letters and not repeats, I want the absolute best that I can get my hands on, although best is always relative to the person. Thanks in advance for any help one of you might be able to offer.

I've been reading this forum for about a year and felt like it would be appropriate to finally contribute. Specs: I recently bought this journal on a whim. It's 9x14cm, 70gsm, stitched binding, ecru colored, ruled with a soft pleather cover. It feels like hot press, but the paper has a bit of a tooth. The pages open flat, which I love. According to their website they are made in Hong Kong. Nice little features: Dedicated space at the top for date. Bookmark. Overall impression: I've had the journal for a week now and I'm really pleased. My other journal is a Tomo River and lovely to write in, but for whatever reason I've become partial towards the Victora's journal. I've had very little trouble with bleeding or smudging, but the ink and pen I use are on the drier end of things. My only complaint is that the paper doesn't show a ton of shading, but that may be in part the ink itself. I have the feeling this is not a great notebook for wet noodles and flex pens, but I'll check once I receive my Namiki Falcon. Cost: $6.00 in store. Which paper shows the best sheen in your experience?

Hi guys, I'm in the market for paper of consistent stock that is suitable for both printing AND writing with a fountain pen (think marginalia, forms, and ink reviews). Since joining the forum I've heard lots of rave reviews for that HP laser paper, but unfortunately, that won't work because I can't get it: it's not available in local shops, and I can't seem to find it online unless maybe it's from the US, and that won't do because it's bound to cost a ton to ship (paper is heavy, maaan). So: what other papers with similar traits can you think of? (Double the points if you know for a fact they're available to the european market!) Here's what I need: - A4/letter - printable (inkjet - doesn't have to be fantastic, printing quality's where I can compromise) - FP frisky (there's FP friendly, and then there's FP frisky...geddit?) I like mine smooooth (don't care about drying...love Clairefontaine & Rhodia) and heavy (at least 80gsm) - white (for the odd ink review). No need to go OTT and make it blinding white, but still, white, not cream/ivory. Usual bribes refreshments and/or rewards available - cookies/bacon/booze, kittens/puppies/wabbits etc

Hi, as I sit here scribing out copious exam notes on a cheap blue paper A4 lined pad, I've come to realise how much good paper enhances the writing experience. No more 'ignorance is bliss'. Do any of the good paper manufacturers like Rhodia/Clairfontaine offer pale blue notepads/books/reams that are fountain pen friendly and have smooth writing surfaces? I'm happy to print lines on paper sheets. I have Irlen Syndrome and my preferred reading surface is pale blue. (I wear purple-lens glasses all day every day.)

I bought a couple of Tsubame cream fool's notebooks, which are lovely, but... The laid paper is great for writing, but ony if your nib is wet enough. The structure is useful for keeping your lines straight, but I thought my somewhat dry-writing little Waterman 52 1/2 v was going bad on me. I switched to a somewhat wetter ink (there's an oxymoron!) and a smoother paper and all was well again. The nib that works best on the Tsubame paper is a Pilot Prera with a medium nib, a really nice calligraphic writer, but if you want to do pointed-pen work, do not buy this notebook. It's remarkable how many variables there are if you're trying to write a decent-looking page of script.

I have some black paper, and would like to write out some favourite poems, in white.....I know that it's a no no for fountain pens, but I have a couple of dip pens.... Any suggestions for the whitest white ink on black paper? Alex PS I have heard of Noodlers White Whale, but am in UK
