  1. Hello i just received a pen that was my grand fathers. i do not know the brand it is, or even what year he got it. http://s1348.photobucket.com/user/michaelkhid1/library/Mobile%20Uploads?sort=3&page=1 Sorry I cant figure out how to directly post pictures on this forum. On the bottom of the nib the feed doesnt have the fins that most fountain pens have, so my family thinks it may be a dib pen.
  2. My great uncle recently died and I found some really nice pens in his house this was among them. http://imgur.com/a/45eo7#0 If anyone has any idea what brand or model it is I would be really grateful. Their are no distinct hallmarks on the cap or body so I have very little to go off when it comes to identifying it. I am also unaware of age, all that I know is my great uncle was 89 when he died. Any information would be greatly appreciated. -Tom

Spotting When A "new" Pen Is Really Used

Time to win against the bad guys....or at least fight a faker. Picture yourself in a department store, fine writing shop, collectibles show, or swap meet. Someone hands you a fountain pen and tells you it is brand new. Under the brilliant halogen lights, the pen shimmers like a glossy new car. But something starts to bother you. A little voice starts to nag you, "Is this pen REALLY new?" Okay, put on your detective's hat. What are the telltale signs that a pen has been used? • Ink residue anywhere -- OK, that's pretty basic • Scratches visible on the body or cap -- I can spot those • A nib with uneven tips -- I might need a magnifier for this What else have your experiences taught you to look for? Step up and strike a blow against FP fakery.
