* Originally posted on my Instagram. Ink Review: Noodler's Ink, Gruene Cactus. Grade: 82.50%. Paper: Norcom Composition. Gruene Cactus (GC) or Incredible Hulk Green, as I've come to think of it, is a green that I think I may have to buy a bottle of. In my Noodler's Ahab, the ink gushes. When I first inked my Ahab I used an ink syringe to fill the piston; when I turned it upside down to let ink flow to the feed, a drop of ink almost fell off of the nib. I have found this ink to be great for calligraphy. The saturation of GC makes it a very smooth writer, and an incredible shader. When I used it in a flex pen, the ink went from a lime green color to a deep evergreen green. GC dries very quickly despite being such a saturated ink and it doesn't feather badly either (even on cheap paper) which surprised me. However it does bleed heavily when you use it in a flex pen. To try it out, I used it on 85g Clairefontaine paper (Quo Vadia Habana) and it bled heavily enough that you could read the words on the other side easily. Despite nail polish and hand sanitizer not making it budge, GC is not water resistant and tap water easily washed away the ink in the test despite the words being on the page for over a week. Despite its bleedthrough problems and low water resistance, I think GC has a lot of potential. If you're looking for an ink that shades, you should try Gruene Cactus.

First off I apologize for my egregious juvenile handwriting and the fact that a small bit of the scan is cut off. However I Didn't see any other reviews of this ink yet so I figured why not give my opinion. Also thank you to Mezzie for the PIF I received some months ago for 3 months of ink drop, the two inks I compare General of the armies to were received in those ink drops. I got this bottle of General of the Armies back in march. I filled it once before the fill I used to review the ink. On the first fill the ink was substantially darker and seemingly a bit more blue, the dyes may have settled in between fills causing this but I'm not sure. Overall though, I liked both colors and I think this is a great addition to Noodler's stable of bulletproof inks. Hopefully you can read my bad cursive and chicken scratch

Hi, just a quick hopeful. I'm very fond of inks that shade and I've heard great things about Noodler's Apache Sunset and set out to try it for myself. I'm in the UK and understand that Noodler's don't export any longer but I'm struggling to find an online store that has stock of it. It's resolutely 'out' where ever I turn. Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi all: Just discovered an ink called Deepwater Obsession Black - Red and fell in love with it. The thought of mixing Red and Black never occurred to me. Reading reviews here have lead me to believe that this ink feathers quite a bit. (Why does an ink feather like that?) Being a big fan of Noodlers, (Baystate Blue and Concord Grape) I thought that I might buy a black and a red and mix them. Wondering of anyone has experience missing inks, especially Noodlers Ink. Do you make a 50/50 mix? Will it work? Will the black overpower the red? Any thoughts here as I would love the help before I create the usual catastrophe for which I am famous not just here in the US but Internationally as well. My best to you all.

Noodler's is one of the companies that don't need introductions. Nathan's Tardiff work is unimaginable. The guy must be a vampire who doesn't sleep and feeds on developing ideas: new inks, new pens. I absolutely love Noodlers Blue, but it isnt waterproof Since I use it at school, any amount of water will wash it away. Since waterproofness is important for notes and test, etc., what inks are very close to noodlers blue but waterproof? I tried Baystate but I found it too saturated and vibrant for note taking. Any help would be awesome Thanks

I was watching a review the other day on YouTube for a Pelikan 140, because of the give away... curious to see what it was. One review I watched had a flex nib and now I want to try one. review So, looking for a cheap starter pen to try out... I know I won't get anything as good as that Pelikan has, but, wanted to give something a try. The Noodler's Ahab looks like a good pen to start with... just wondered if something better in that same $20-$30CAD range. I was hoping there was a way to put in a different nib into something like a LAMY Safari, but I guess that's not the case (?).

Can You Turn A Noodler's Ahab Nib Into A Chinese Calligraphy Nib?

So, after penvangelizing my mother, she quickly went and bought herself a Noodler's Ahab. The very first day she took it to work, she dropped it on the floor and bent the nib. Heartbreaking, I know. But the way she bent it reminded me of a Chinese calligraphy fountain pen nib. It got me thinking: Is it possible to successfully mod an Ahab to make it write like a Chinese nib? I know it wouldn't write exactly like it, but would it be able to approximate the line variation? I'm very curious to see if anyone has ever tried to mod an Ahab in this way. On a side note, how hard would it be to fix the nib? She's not nearly as curious about the potential as I am.

Brooklyb Brown was one of three exclusive colors made by Nathan Tardiff for Art Brown shop. Sadly it's no longer available as Arthur Brown in New York City had to shutter their doors in 2013. The color is stunning, I would describe it as rich brown with greenish accents. Great stuff. Thank you Cyber6 for sending me a sample. I have a few fountain pens, but, most are empty because tend to dry out before I use them. I don't write as often as I use to. I do have a pair of LAMY pens that I'm enjoying... a black one with Noodler's Black (Bulletproof) and a red LAMY with a sample of Noodler's Rattler Red Eel, which, I'm not liking as much. It's a nice ink, but not 'red' enough... dries too dark for me, not enough contrast between it and the black to stand out. I'd like to get an ink that's almost the same colour as the pen itself. I saw a few reviews for Diamine Wild Strawberry, which seems more towards what I'm after. Does Noodler's make a red ink similar to this colour?

Will Be Buying Noodler's For The First Time! Performance On Mid-Quality Paper?

Hi all, I'm fairly new to fountain pens and brand new to FPN. I'm from Canada and I've never used Noodler's inks before, as I find that it's prohibitively expensive to ship the stuff up north. I'll be heading to the States for an internship this coming summer and will finally have a chance to buy some! I would gladly appreciate some advice with regards to Noodler's ink performance on medium-quality paper. I find most reviews are done on nice high quality paper, but most of my writing is done on a regular Grand and Toy notebook (the paper is "heavy weight" and better than copy paper, but it's no Rhodia). Here's what I'm looking for. 1- A blue/blue-black/navy/green-blue ink. I've attached an example of my current ink (mix of Pelikan blue and a bit of J. Herbin green to make it darker, maybe 5:1). I'd really like something like this color. 2- Performance on medium-quality paper: specifically, no feathering. My standard is Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue 3- Impartial regarding bleed-through, water-proofness, or dry-time Here are some inks I'm considering. All are in stock at Fountain Pen Hospital as I'll be living walking-distance from them and I plan to visit often - Blue/Black (not Aircorp) - Deep blue Treasury? (Can't find any reviews online) - General of the Armies (Not many reviews and most don't seem too excited about this one?) - Midnight Blue (really like the color but am afraid of feathering issues) - Squeteague - Blue Manhattan (FPH exclusive) - Ellis Island Blue Black (FPH exclusive) - Henry Hudson Blue (FPH exclusive) Also open to any other suggestions, as I'm pretty excited for free shipping in the states - Bad Blue Heron - 54th Massachussets - Aircorp blue-black Thanks everyone! On the recent hunt to find the perfect blue ink, I came across one I do like, Noodlers Blue. Is there any color difference between regular Noodlers blue and Noodlers blue eel, I've heard people say there is and some say there isn't. Personally, I don't know why just lubricant would change the color, but yet I'm only about 6 months into the Fountain Pen 'craze'. I want to use a lubricated ink because I noticed that my nib on a couple of my pens are a little sluggish and dry out easily, but dont want to loose that pretty Noodlers Blue.

I'm looking to buy a flex/semi-flex pen. I already have a Noodler's creaper, but want something a bit better (though I'm still on a budget). I'm currently debating between 3 options: 1. Noodler's Konrad in ebonite ($40) 2. Ranga Soquel with flexible 14k eversharp nibs from PSP ($85) 3. Vintage restored celluloid flex pen (~$125) How much would the quality vary between these pens? I've searched for reviews, and the Konrad seems to polarize opinion, and I can't find much about these Indian pens with vintage flex nibs, so I'm not sure if the feed can keep up with flexing. Is it worth spending more on the vintage pen or Indian ebonite pen with vintage nib? I've never had a vintage pen, so how much should I worry about maintenance on a vintage flex? Thank you in advance for the advice -- and for reading through all my questions!

Water Resistance Tests On Blue Paper, Noodler's Iroshizuku Herbin Pr

Water resistance tests on Reflex Blue copy paper (ie not white). 1 minute under running tap water. Selection of currently inked pens and personally preferred ink blends written with dip nib. Mostly Noodlers CMYK blends, a few Iroshizuku, one Private Reserve (Ebony Purple), and couple of J Herbins. Interesting outcome for one commercial ink and for a couple of blends. Noodler's Yellow: check out the paper bleaching after 1 minute rinse (third link below). Unexpected. Wouldn't have shown up if I had used white paper. While damp, I held the paper to the light to check it out, and the bleached areas appeared semi-translucent. The other Noodler's colours didn't have this effect and showed the regular type of behaviour I expected to see (Shah's Rose, Navajo Turquoise, and Bulletproof Black). My Noodler's 'random blend' (first link below) with black, navajo turquoise, shah's rose, xanthan, and titanium white luster was also a surprise. This was the dregs of a few xanthan x luster experiments, and had a much higher proportion of Bulletproof Black in it than any of my other CMYK blends shown in these water tests. There was a *lot* of luster in this ink as can be seen on the unrinsed side - the base ink is actually a very dark purple when wet, and it dries up to that very pale purple due to luster coverage. After rinsing, the lustre still adhered quite solidly in some areas; even in the faded areas an equivalent amount of 'faded' luster still adhered. Will post a close up shot later in the xanthan thread. I'm curious about this behaviour. Summer Lustre: Another ink blend with xanthan x titanium white luster, however did not behave in the same way as the 'random blend' with bulletproof - so there appears to be an interaction of some sort that occurred between bulletproof, xanthan, and luster, or maybe just bulletproof and luster in the 'random' blend. (FYI The plain ink version of Summer Lustre is shown just above and is called 'Sunset'.) If a blend interests you let me know and I'll post up the specifics. However as these tests are all on blue paper, they'll look different on white paper. Someday I'll get around to posting examples and ratios on white (ink cards are in the making). Update On Vintage Russian Soyuz Pen: With Noodler's American Eel Bulletproof Black

After some experiment and consulting the Fountain Pen Hospital while I was in NY, I decided to use American Eel ink (bulletproof version) on this pen. The piston seems to have loosened after this and I found that writing is very pleasant. http://img.vim-cn.com/8f/8b8b672cf539683549319055a51b4409677e81.jpg This writing sample is done on a Rhodia dotpad and I still have not managed how to use this kind of grid yet. The dry time is relatively long as Noodler's bulletproof ink always does (and the large amount of ink laid by this Soyuz only made the problem worse). The writing was smooth and enjoyable. The only annoying thing is that the ink has that distinctive smell which can be a bit annoying to some people. Thanks for the advice on using silicon greece but I cannot open this pen so I can only use some lubricative ink. -
I tested the following inks for water-fastness: Noodler's Squeteague Noodler's Turquoise Diamine Teal Iroshizuki Shin-Kai Private Reserve Sherwood Green Sheaffer Blue-Black (cartridge) Organics Studio Emerald City DeAtramentis Black Edition-Blue Noodler's Purple Wampum Brown ink* Paper used was from a wide-ruled Norcom Basic Notebook, made in Mexico. After 1 hour I took a photo: After 24 hours I removed the test half, dried it, and scanned it along with the control. The most waterproof inks are Iroshizuki Shin-Kai, Sheaffer Blue-Black, DeAtramentis Black Ed. Blue, and Noodler's Purple Wampum. Still legible, but rather faded are Noodler's Squeteague and Turquoise, and Diamine Teal. The Organics Studio Emerald City is somewhere between faded and vanished. Private Reserve Sherwood Green and the brown ink washed away completely. *set of cartridges received for successfully completing the kid's scavenger hunt at the Raleigh pen show in Spring 2014, I think Private Reserve that got too dried out for sale?

Ink With Sheen For Marbled Marianas Noodler's Konrad Acrylic

I have a very special Konrad in the two-blued marbled marianas acrylic coming and I'd like to give it its first trial run with a matching sheeny ink in the blue to aqua ranges. Any favourites you'd like to recommend? (The sheeny thread doesn't always show the 'normal' colour of inks as the shots are generally angled to capture the sheen.) -
