  1. I have a 149 with a 14k medium nib. I would love to make it a fine or extra fine with added flex. I dont mind the $60 or so dollars that the heavy hitters charge, but cant justify twice that to get the pen back in less than six months. I would love to get the pen back in a month or so for $60-ish dollars. Anybody have any suggestions?

  3. This is my first post. Hello to everyone! I have the Pelikan M605 and M805. Both are EF nibs. But the EF nib on my M805 is a slight disappointment. It's smooth but not fine enough. It writes like a European Fine nib. Does anyone know a good/trusted nib meister, that operates in Singapore, that can help with my M805 nib? Thanks and regards.

  6. A few months back I purchased a vintage (c. 1950s) Aurora 88 Nikargenta from what appeared to be a well regarded seller off eBay but when the pen arrived it was hugely disappointing. The piston leaked, the tines were completely out of alignment and I suspected the iridium on the nib was probably shot. To her credit the seller adjusted her price downward by an agreed amount and I set out to have the pen restored. Mike Masuyama restored the piston and tweaked, tuned and smoothed the nib. I dreamed of this classic beauty smoothly scrolling across the page, flexing gracefully to create elegant lines, letters, etc. Well, 8 weeks later the pen arrived and the work has been done but honestly the nib is still a bit of a rough ride for me. It may just be the nature of these nibs, perhaps i'm too heavy handed...I am unsure. I hate the idea of letting this pen go and before I do I thought I would see if anyone here had any thoughts on these pens, the issues i've described, perhaps even an Aurora 88 expert who could help me understand if the issue is me or the pen.   7. I have been using the nib customization services of Pendleton Brown for a couple of years now. I thought it was past time for me to post some samples of his fine work. In my opinion Pendleton is a living treasure. Invariably when I send him a pen it comes back to me writing much better. Some times it is like a different pen altogether the improvement is so great. I have gotten the full gamut of customization work from him, soft stubs and super crisp italics on both hard and flexible nibs. While all his work is phenomenal my favorite are my flexible crisp Italics. I am posting some of my favorites here. At this point I send almost every new pen I get to Pendleton. I have his GA address saved as a favorite in PayPal. Despite my wholly positive comments here I have no association with Pendleton, financial or otherwise. Feel free to ask me any questions about the attached 20 or so pens.
  8. I was thinking that it would be a nice idea to share the best examples of repair and client service ever received from a nibmeister or a shop. A lot of people express appreciation for pen specialists while talking about something else (eg: "this pen is really cool, wonderful design, excellent work on the nib done by Richard Binder/John Mottishaw/whoever, really good value for money"). But's let's dedicate a whole thread entirely to celebrating the best among our "pen doctors"! Here's mine: I had an Aurora 85th anniversary that my parents bought to me exactly one year ago as a present for my wedding. The pen is gorgeous but the nib has never been able to write properly. First it started to scratch, then to skip, then it had flow issues that forced me to use it with only one ink with very lubricated flow. In one word: a pain. I sent it back to Aurora, which after three months of useless back and forth sent me back the pen more or less in the same conditions. Then I sent it to a famous nibmeister who worked on the pen but couldn't bring noticeable difference to the way it writes. Eventually, completely exasperated by the whole thing, I took advantage of a journey back to my hometown in Northern Italy to bring the pen to the shop where it was originally bought from, Lazzaroni- gioielli per scrivere, in Brescia (not far from Milan). Maurizio, the manager of the shop, kindly offered to work on the pen for free in his laboratory instead of sending it back to Aurora, which we both knew back then would be pretty much pointless. In just half an hour he pulled out all his tools and skills, smoothened the nib to perfection and managed to finally make the ink flow regular, smooth and pleasant. All this while explaining me how he did it and showing me all the interesting stuff he was working on. I was sincerely impressed by the result and I'm now using the pen on a daily basis without all the unpleasant situations I had until a couple of weeks ago Also, I should mention that Maurizio is one of the kindest persons I've ever encountered in the pen business, always manages to make you feel at ease although his knowledge of the pen world is far beyond your own, as opposed to other pen sellers who tend to have a feeling of superiority towards customers. He really knows how to do his job and how to make you spend a nice time chatting about pens. If you are Italian or happen to visit Italy, I strongly suggest to visit his shop in Brescia. (No affiliation, just a very happy customer and so on and so forth) So... what's your experience of impeccable repair and client service?
