  2. Hello everyone! I am Jarwolf! I saw a fountain pen online browsing for something to purchase for a hobby. I saw an advertisement saying "Fountain Pen's 60% off" I thought to myself.."Hmm, what in the world could a fountain pen be?" *click link* I saw an odd looking tip. Okay...I think I will buy it and see what it does! Sadly to say, it did not come with any ink at all, just the pen! Here is a little story why I got this and why I am here today needing help! Okay, so I made up the name Jarwolf, because my first name is Jared, also..well...hehe, I LOVE WOLVES WITH A PASSION!!! awhoooooo!!!!! I am terrified and HATE needles! I wish to get a wolf tattoo on my left arm. I thought to myself, "This pen may work if..." (((bleep), what ink...what bran!!!?! ahhhhhhhh)). So, my question is...Where can I find ink that will work in my fountain pen that is black and permanent such as "indelible ink", or ink that will NOT go away or fade when I go to take a shower and if I were to constantly scrub on the area where I drew the 'tattoo' on my arm. Please help me; my beautiful fountain pen users! Also, a link (if allowed) for the ink that I just described (if there is one!--There has to be! :\ !) Here is the DESCRIPTION of the pen that I have bought, I will also have pictures attached to this. Description: Classic Smooth Writing Pen, 18k gold-plated stainless steel nib,ink Cartridge International Standard, Removable Converter and Refillable, cap type:push. What does "ink cartridge international Standard" mean as well as "cap type:push"? How am I supposed to refill this as well? EDIT:: Would I be able to put different NIBS on sense it is unscrewable//comes off???

    New Diamine 150Th Anniversary Inks!

Anniversary Collection – on release from 17th November 2014. To celebrate 150 years of the Diamine brand they have created the “Anniversary Collection”. The new triangular design ink bottles contain 40ml and will be available in eight stunning colours: these bottles when collected can be arranged into a beautiful round desk display. I haven't been given any notification of price point yet but unlike the previous two Diamine collections, all these new inks will be available separately from the start. AND there are possible rumours of additional colours in the future! As usual, my scans are of dip-tested writing, using Lamy Safari pens with M nibs. I use a small sable paintbrush for the 'swatches' but don't re-dip the brush between each one. The paper is my normal Rhodia 80gsm dot grid A5. Diamine 1864 Blue Black As you might expect, this is my favourite of all the Anniversary inks. A wonderful, rich dark blue-black with plenty of character. Obviously suitable for business and personal use and when compared alongside a black ink, 1864 definitely isn't! Fabulous! Diamine Silver Fox This is a mid grey in my opinion and although not one of my favourite 'colours' this one from Diamine will almost certainly be a winner. Along with Graphite, it will certainly find its way into my collection. Diamine Regency Blue A wonderful, deep blue which is nice and rich. Plenty of character and this again could be used for business and personal writing. Diamine have been careful not to make these inks similar to any others of their range and I can't compare it to any at all. Obviously, others out there might well liken them to others by different manufacturers but that's all part of the fun, isn't it?! Diamine Safari What can one say? The 'missing link' between Salamander and Evergreen! A fantastic colour and one which will definitely get into the Limoges collection. My joint second-favourite, it reminds me of that wonderful 'bush' grass colour and if I had to compare this one, I'd say it was like Epinard. But I could be wrong...! Diamine Carnival Gorgeous red – if that's your bag! I don't use them as a rule but have to say that this ink and colour impressed me a lot. I can imagine it being popular and, along with Ciamine/Cult Pens Deep Dark Red, could well complete my collection at this part of the spectrum. Diamine Blue Velvet This wonderful ink is my second-favourite of the set; but only just and by the proverbial gnat's whisker! Bright and cheerful are the best words I can use to describe it and I just love it. It seems to be between Aster and Cornflower from the Flower set and it fits in that gap nicely. A lovely blue and my second favourite of the set. Diamine Terracotta This one has grown on me since I did the test and have typed this out. Not too pale at all and even dipped and on Rhodia it seems to shade quite well. Not that that bothers me in the slightest. A good colour but not one of my usual ranges. Diamine Tropical Green A good mid green with just a hint towards the blue side, according to my eyes. I bet it would look great on ivory or yellow/legal paper. It could be the only green to get if that's a colour that you hadn't considered before. As I mentioned, these eight inks are being sold separately and that is going to be a real bonus for Diamine. A newly-designed and hand-illustrated box with ink colour label completes the packaging. Each bottle is labelled uniquely, with the colour on the label and side panels which are printed on the sides of the boxes although that isn't quite clear from the photograph, supplied by Diamine.) This example is for the 1864 Blue Black. Finally, as if we didn't know, the inks have been developed to celebrate the 150th Anniversary. May we all wish Diamine well - a wonderful British achievement!

    Hello From Nottingham, Uk

Hi everyone, I'm a student (studying Mathematical Physics) living in Nottingham, England. I got into pens about 6 months ago when I was sorting through a deceased family member's things and was given a load of Platignums, a couple of Parkers and a Sheaffer. After cleaning them and using them in classes I was hooked. I won't have the money to buy any extremely fancy pens any time soon, but I'm really enjoying the pens I was given, and a few Jinhao/Hero pens I subsequently found on eBay. As an absolute novice, I look forward to learning a lot here. Regards, Matt
  6. Hello! I recently became interested in fountain pens and I'm considering purchasing one! I would most likely buy the Lamy Safari based on the high recommendation of them to new users, I also really like the design of them as well. However, I am unsure on which nib size to get with the Safari. I am a left-handed (I read that the left-handed Lamy nib doesn't really make a difference, but I might as well mention it) high school student. This means I would most likely be using cheap paper, like the Norcom 1 Subject Notebook (College Ruled), and blank copy paper as well. I am not sure whether to get the Safari with the F or M nib. Will the nib size affect the amount of bleed-through/feathering in the cheap paper? Which nib size do you recommend for my type of use? Also, if anyone uses rollerball pens (it's a fountain pen forum, I know haha), do you know the size of the F or M Lamy nibs compared to, say, an Energel .7mm refill? Like, what's the mm of a F or M Lamy nib? Thank you!

    New Guy From Copenhagen, Denmark

My name is Tomas, I live in Copenhagen, Denmark, and work as a freelance illustrator. I am lucky to keep a full calender, wich means I draw every day and often into the night. I'm an active urban sketcher and sketcher in general. I've been using fountain pens for a long time and have fallen in love with the TWSBI 580, the Pelikan 140 and the Kuretake no. 40. Most of the inks I use is waterproof, as I work a lot with watercolours. I prefer inks from De Atramentis and Noodles, but i am also quit impressed with Diamond ink. But is always looking for new brands to try. I'm really looking forward to be part of this network - I love fountain pens.

    Diamine Salamander - An Overview

Earlier this afternoon I was given the go-ahead by Phil at Diamine to post my humble scans and mediocre photos, of Diamine Salamander. So here they are! I refer you to my comments about the naming of the ink, here on Market Watch and the other shorter announcement here on Inky Thoughts, just for reference. It's a dark olive/khaki sort-of colour and one that I think will be particularly popular. This general written test shows the general appearance, on a white Rhodia dot paper. The next scans are done on my most usual papers and are reasonably self-explanatory. The only bit of feathering seems to be along the paper fibres of the Leuchtturm and Moleskine and this latter was the only one that exhibited any really 'awkward' bleed-through. Next are the photographs which I took, to try and show the kind of thing that I referred to in one of my comments on the other Forums. There is a slight sheen when the ink is on papers like the Leuchtturm and Moleskine - well I reckon there is. However, I do not 'do' macro pictures - my professional photographic career was far more interesting! So I apologise for the quality. The only Photoshop correction I used throughout was on these snaps and that was 'Auto Contrast'. The scans are straight as they came out. The four above are the Leuchtturm 1917. These two are Moleskine. The last two; Rhodia. Not the best examples but there you go. I really rate this ink and it's got something about it that I think will make it very popular.Reminiscent of Noodler's El Lawrence or Old Burma Road perhaps but I haven't got either of those. Perhaps a bit like Zhivago sometimes. It dries really rather well on all these papers and has Diamine's typical wet flow and behaviour. I can't give any more up-to-date information about availability but probably within about six to eight weeks. Keep checking - I'll post when I know.

    Howdy From North Carolina!

Hi! My name is Caleb and I have been exposed to the pen habit for about six months. I have a pilot metropolitan, TWSBI ECO, Monteverde Invincia Deluxe stainless steel edition, Jinhao x-750 and 159, Platinum cool, and a Noodler's Ahab! I am so excited to finally get into this community and can't wait so see what it has to offer!
  10. Hello to all in the Fountain Pen Network! My name is Kerry and I am a relatively new fountain pen user. I started in November of last year and I must say I have never fallen more in love with anything than I have with fountain pens! I always though I was a lone wolf in the FP world until I realized how big this community is on the FPN. I'm excited to start chatting with you all, learning and sharing information and hopefully finding fellow pen lovers in my area. I don't personally know anyone who likes fountain pens (much to my dismay)

    Hello From California

Hello from California! I’m new to the world of fountain pens and only recently discovered the Fountain Pen Network. What a wonderful source of information from kind and knowledgeable people! I wanted to be cautious about diving into fountain pens, so most of my instruments at this point are inexpensive (read: cheap) “workhorse” writers for comfortable note taking; the finer nib the better. I know the list isn’t much, but I hope to begin to gradually upgrade in quality soon. My current pens are: Lamy Safari and Al-Star Pilot Metropolitan and Kakuno Jinhao Pens (of various lines) Noodler’s Ahab Nemosine Fission and Singularity TWSBI Classic I’m an accountant by trade but since finding that fountain pens offer such a massive array of colors, I’ve recently been incorporating the various inks into my nerdy artwork. So that’s me. Thanks for letting me join and be a part of the Fountain Pen Network and community.

  16. For a long time FPGeeks was my go to blog to keep up with the latest pen models and limited editions, but since the site went down I've had to resort to going back and forth between dozens of different sites, shops and forum posts in order to keep up. Surely there has to be a better way?

    Hello From Iraq

Hello all, Saying hello from Iraq, though very new here I have enjoyed what I read and have learnt a lot, and of course the "pens to buy" list multiplied by 10 suddenly. Though have admired fountain pens for long time, I have just recently decided to start a collection, it's not easy task specially in Iraq, but I will do my best, travelling in few days to another country so will try to get some new pens and inks.

Sailor Storia Ink Now In Stock

We now have the new Sailor Storia inks in stock! All colors are available
  19. Dear friends, At Iguana Sell we are very pleased to inform you that Pelikan has a new star coming out very soon! (Another one, yes!!) This time, is the Maki-e Autumn Flowers, using transparent red and black lacquer stripes and precious materials as the blue pearl particles which were added to the flower that appears in this Fountain Pen. One of the techniques used is called Kakiwari, which only a few highly skilled artists can do, it has an incredible three dimensional effect. The result is a masterpiece that combines German craftsmanship, with more than 175 years of tradition, technology, and very delicate painting techniques, as the very famous Kaga-Togidashi-Taka-Maki-e. Each pen is individually numbered and signed by the artist. This series is limited to only 88 pieces worldwide. Each model has a bicolor 18k gold nib and is presented in a charming traditional Japanese box made of Paulownia wood. If you would like to have more information, please feel free to ask us ! We will be more than happy to help you! Have a wonderful day. Kind regards. Marja http://www.iguanasell.com/
  20. Hello, all. I've been lurking around for little while and decided to post. I have a few inexpensive pens; my current favorite is a Delta Serena that my lovely wife got me earlier this year (we call it a combination Valentine's & Father's day gift!) cw3
  21. Hello! I'm a novice calligrapher from Norfolk, Virginia. I used to practice calligraphy as a kid (from age 12-14), and recently decided to get back into it. I'm now 32 years old. I've been practicing on and off for about a month, using Pilot Parallels, standard Pilot Parallel ink cartridges, and working with just the basic Gothic exemplar from the Parallel Pen packaging, though I also have a variety of calligraphy textbooks I'm working through. Here is a sample of my work: http://puu.sh/fdCip/6c1a732b8c.png At the same time, I've become interested in fountain pens. Learning to use them was dead easy after getting used to writing with calligraphy pens. You can see my standard LAMY Safari there in the picture, and I very recently acquired a Pilot Vanishing Point Fermo as well. I have a bottle of Iroshizuku Shin-Kai and Iroshizuku Ina-Ho so far, lots of Doane, Leuchtturm, and Rhodia paper and journals, cleaning supplies... I'm going nuts over here. I look forward to reading about people's work and experiences in the world of lettering, fine pens, fine inks, and fine papers, and sharing my own as I continue to improve over the next months and years.

Teal 21 Super Nos - Do I Use It?

Hello, Everyone. About a 2 months ago, on a whim, I picked up a NOS 21 Super, in the original box (but missing the mechanical pencil, it appears) on ebay. I haven't had a chance to look at it until just today (it's been a rough 2 months!). The pen really does appear to be unused. Definitely never inked. It's possible that the cap was taken off and put back on, but there are no finger prints on it, and there were no finger prints on the squeeze filler, either. I paid a whopping $27.74, including shipping, for this pen. Now here's my dilemma: The pen was purchased so I could use it. I wanted an older pen to take with me to work and use with permanent inks (Noodler's Black or Polar Blue). But now that I have it, I'm wondering if it's worth more as a collectible unused than as a daily using pen. What's the opinion from Parker collectors? Keep it "like new", or use it?

    Twsbi 580 Or Vac700

Hello all, I was thinking of buying a new pen. After researching a bit, I settled on getting either a TWSBI 580 or a Vac700. The problem is deciding which one. I've read a lot of reviews and whatnot, but I want to hear from you guys on the topic. Any info/advice is much appreciated. Thanks!! -CJ
  24. Hey everyone, Found FPN while searching pics of stub nibbed pens. I'm fairly new to fountain pens, but looking to add to my meager collection. I blame my wife. Her friends started showing off their pens, and she got the bug, and then, of course, I had to try, too. So I bought us a couple Platinum Plaisirs, and a Preppy for our son. Those are nice; but she wanted a Lamy and a Noodler's flex, and I wanted a stub (thought I'd try the Monteverde 1.1mm), and those are pretty awesome. So...now we're looking at TWSBIs and Edisons and vintage pens (okay, that's just me) and I can't believe how many beautiful variations there can be on what it essentially a pointy stick with a leaky end. Who knew, right?! Anyway, off to finish reading the Stub o'the Day thread! Jack
  25. Just in case anybody had $27,000 USD lying around and wanted a new pen, Porsche has unveiled a new, solid gold fountain pen.
