    Lamy Soho

Hi All, The other day, I visited the new Lamy store in New York City. Copied below are my impressions as recorded in Yelp (https://www.yelp.com/biz/lamy-soho-new-york) Below the quote are some pictures I took of the trip.
  4. I am aware of the people online who will tune a nib, but I am kinda impatient and don't want to wait a month to get my pen back. I live close to the border of NY and Massachusetts so a drive to Boston would be about the same length as a drive to NYC.
  5. I'm very likely going to the Pen Expo at the Fountain Pen Hospital on Warren Street on the 14th. Is anyone else attending?

Hail And Well Met, From Albany, Ny!

I've been told this is the Mount Everest of fountain pen aficionados. From the posts/threads I've read thus far, I'd say that statement is true. My name is Matthew Brockbank (Brock for short). Besides being a lover of fountain pens, I have a dream of one day becoming a Nibmeister and opening up Brock's Pen Shoppe, here in upstate NY. When I was younger, I was always fascinated by penmanship, font, and calligraphy. When I recently decided to buy my first fountain pen, everything changed. Writing with a fountain pen for the first time is like eating fast-food steak and then one day eating steak in a 3 Michelin Star restaurant. It was heaven. So, ever since then it's been an obsession and love affair with fountain pens that has evolved into pens, paper, inks, and the art of writing, in general. I hope I can contribute my fair share to this community and give back as much as you all already have to me. Cheers, Brock
  7. Hi all! I opened this account in 2013, but I've never used it. I figure it's time to fix that. Anyways, I'm a lawyer in the New York area, have been using fountain pens since high school, and post every now and again on the /r/fountainpens subreddit. My current favorite pen is a Sailor Starburst Galaxy with a music nib. I also still hold out hope that my previous favorite -- a Visconti Homo Sapiens, 25th Anniversary Edition -- will be returned to me some day. It disappeared from my bag while I was on public transit one morning. Maybe it was stolen? Maybe it fell out of my bag? I haven't decided. Both seem unlikely. In any event, part of my reason for posting now is a long-shot hope that one of you found it and have been holding it faithfully for just such an occassion. Fingers crossed, and here's a link to an announcement I made about it on Reddit. To make matters worse, it was in a black leather case when it was lost.... with a brand new Pelikan Cafe Creme. Heavy sigh. Either way, glad to join the group! I have been reading your ink reviews and pen repair tips for years, and hope to contribute my own as I learn. I just started teaching myself to restore Vacumatics, so I hope there will be some success stories to post soon!

    A Metallurgical Question

I've collected a number of old ringtops and I notice that the gold New York Ideal nibs have a rainbow coloration over all or part of their surface; one Canada nib has it over the lower tines, but not the later nibs. It looks like a reaction to the ink I'm using (mostly Bungbox Eel - I'm besotted with the color) and I wonder if it indicates that Waterman slightly changed its alloy when it applied for its patent. Any guesses what's going on?

    Nyc

Hello all, I'll be in New York City, Boston , and New Haven CT later this summer and I was wondering if any of you know of any pen shops in and about those regions. Any experiences with items purchased there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, CJ
  10. I got a deal on a mucked-up Waterman ringtop with a beautiful New York #2 nib. My plan was to send it to my go-to pen guy (Fred Krinke of The Fountain Pen Shop) and have it placed in a pen that worked. I put it in a plastic tube and now it's disappeared! My cat Blotto is a thief. It's somewhere in the house, but of course I've been renovating so everything's in a pile. I am going to have to clean my entire house to find my damn pen. He's got extra toes, so I figure he's trying to figure out how to write checks on the sly. He'll be foiled, of course, because even if he gets the pen out of the tube, the lever is frozen so he can't fill it.

    A Nib Above Its Station

I snapped up an interesting item on ebay: a Remington pen (which Mr. Binder dismisses as a notoriously cheap make - not even repairable) into which someone had inserted a Waterman New York nib - evidence of some early obsession, perhaps. Since the price was about a third of what the nib is worth on a retail site, I crossed my fingers and bought the thing. Since I still haven't found the one my cat stole, I might as well try for another.
  12. Hi there, Looking to try some new paper for my fpens and read some great reviews about Tomoe River paper. Almost all reviews mention getting it from JetPens and whereas that would be a good option, I am wondering if there are any shops in New York city that may stock this paper (or generally stock writing paper ?). Have already aclled a few art supply stores like Pearl and also AI Friedman and they do not catrry this paper. Any help would be appreciated !
