  1. Hi everyone! I know this question has been asked a long while ago (2006 and 2008) , but I have no idea if things have changes since. Does anyone know if there is a pen club in Montreal or anywhere in the province of Quebec ? I'd be interested in joining such club. Thanks H-G
  2. The Montreal Pen Club finally has a website : http://www.mtlpen.club As always, there is the Slack group, but we now also have a low volume newsletter for future meetings and various announcements.
  3. If you are in Montreal on January 20th, come talk to us at C'ChoColat (1255 Bishop). We'll be there from around noon.
  4. The second meeting of The Nibble ( La Grignote ) will take place: Friday, November 30 at 6:30 pmBenelux, Brasserie Artisanale4026, rue WellingtonVerdun, QC H4G 1V3w@brasseriebenelux.com(not far from metro station, De l’Eglise) RSVP to:alexanderlow@me.com(I need to reserve the right amount of table space)—please don’t call Benelux! Join the private Facebook group “La Grignote” (The Nibble): https://www.facebook.com/groups/1028198204003194/ FPN Calendar link: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/calendar/event/630-canada-qc-montreal-the-nibble-pen-meet/
  5. Since we don't really have an organized pen community in the greater Montreal area, I'm trying to build a Slack group to give a chance to local pen lovers to meet and exchange locally. I hope to reach Montreal and both north and south shore. If you are interested, send a mail to info@mtlpen.club for an invite. Sorry, I don't have a website yet, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them.
  6. Hi everyone, I know there was a Waterman factory in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in the early 20th century but I was never able to find the date of when it closed (the year). I was only able to find out when it started operating and what happened to the building afterwards through Google searches. I think knowing when it closed to be able to guess what models it last produced would be interesting. Thank you all very much in advance!

    Howdy From Montreal !

Hi y'all. I've have been using fountain pens as tools for a few decades now, but I seem to have acquired a few more of late. I've stumbled around FPN on and off for a couple of years--hunting down useful details. There's so much information floating around on FPN (contributed by knowledgeable, hard-typing, scribbling and photo-snapping folks) that I haven't felt I needed to ask much in the way of additional questions, or that I was competent to offer answers. But I suppose it's about time I was a little more participatory and friendly-like. So, hello! I do have an introductory query: as someone planning to attend the Scriptus pen event in Toronto in a week or so (October 29), I am curious if there is any particular strategy for saying hello (in advance) to other folks that will be there. Perhaps an FPN topic or place to hang out? I didn't see much under the Scriptus event itself on FPN, but maybe I am missing something? This will be my third year attending Scriptus. Its a great event, but pen shows are kind of frenetic affairs and not especially conducive to chatting or networking in my limited experience. Scriptus, being a one-day event, also limits the networking opportunities compared with some all-weekend shindigs of which I have heard.

    Hello From Montreal, Qc, Canada

Hello all, It took me a long time to finally open an account on this forum. And, to be honest, I'm not entirely sure why. I mean, I've been a stationery fan for years. Years, I tell you! But I only got into fountain pens last year. I did get my very first fountain pen in the early 2000s. A Sheaffer Prelude in brushed stainless steel. While nice, I was never hooked. I was still a mechanical pencil and rollerball kinda guy. I never really ventured too far in the writing utensils section of my favourite stationery stores, instead I focused on finding the best notebooks possible. I accumulated notebook after notebook. It was my thing. I am lucky enough to have a better half that's at least 100% as crazy about stationery as I am. One day, the topic of fountain pens came on the subject. And that sparked something in me. The next day, i went to Nota Bene (easily the best pen and paper store in Montreal) and got myself a Lamy Safari in Matt Umbra. That was the genesis of it! So hello and hi to you all!
  9. Hi fellow pen friends/Salut des mes amis stylo! I signed up for the Pelikan Hub in Montreal and recently got an email from Pelikan saying: "We have noticed that the number of participants at the Hub City you have registered for is not high enough to form a Hub at the moment." ( ) Since I've had a lot of fun at previous Pelikan hubs (plus, I think that it's high time Montreal had a regular meeting of "Les Amis du Stylo"), I thought I would let my fellow Montrealaise know that: - we have until July 31 to register to try and have a local Pelikan hub (you can register at www.pelikan.com/hubs) - even if we don't have a formal Pelikan hub, we could still set up an informal meeting to show off our pens and try different inks & papers. If you have any questions or need help, feel free to PM me. Thanks for your attention and hope you have a great summer! Regards, Justin (AKA JLS1 on various FP boards) PS: Mods, if this is in the wrong place or against the FPN rules, please feel free to move and/or remove this post. Thanks!
  10. Bonjour, I went Boxing Day shopping in downtown Montréal and on my way back home, I stopped by the big Essence du Papier store at Place Ville-Marie. There was a little sign on the door that read something like this: Thanks to all our loyal customers, but the store is closed for good as of December 24th. They had another shop on St-Denis street. I checked their web site and it seems they are closed as well. With these shops gone, the only worthwhile paper shop in Montreal is Nota Bene on Parc Avenue - they also cary FPs and the only place in Montréal that carries Diamine inks as far as I know. A few interesting finds are to me made at Omer Deserres art supply stores (Leuchtturm, Fabriano). What you can find in the library chains (Renaud-Bray, Indigo) is rather dismal (the usual Moleskine stuff and little else). Le Parchemin at Berri Metro station carries a good selection of Rhodia products and they also sell pens. That is pretty much it. I've been trying to support local businesses, but it is getting harder and harder. They keep disappearing! I guess Nota Bene will be getting pretty much all of my business, along with Stylo.ca downtown.
