    What Would You Go For?

I am interested in either the M800 Tortoise, M800 demonstrator or the M1005 demonstrator. I intend to use it for drawing, so I plan on getting the nib ground to a needlepoint. I'm leaning a bit more to the demonstrator models as I would be able to have full view of the ink supply, but I have wanted a Tortoise since it first came out. I'm having a hard time deciding. Originally, I bought a 60s 149 that I was going to have the nib ground down to a needlepoint, but the nib was too nice so I kept it the way it is. The size of the 149 and its nib were pretty right for drawing so I'm thinking the M1005 might be the way to go. I thought about getting another 149, but would like to try either of Pelikan's flagship models as I love their vintage pens. Anyway, if anyone has either of the three above and have tried them for drawing, I'd appreciate it if you could lend your opinions on them.
  3. Has anyone seen a Dutch Netherlands 18 carat (750) gold hallmark on a recently made solid gold Montblanc pen? I am used to seeing the 750, STOD, and the two smaller stamps on solid gold examples online. I am also familiar with the similar vermeil and silver hallmarks (Ag 925, STOD, and two smaller stamps) on two Montblanc pens I own (75th pinstripe, and a vermeil). However, the example I am considering has STOD and Au 750, but instead of the two smaller stamps I see a larger stamped rectangular box, with cropped corners, with a rose and the number 750 inside, as depicted in the links below [kleine voorperwen (small articles) 750 gold]. Has Montblanc recently changed their gold hallmarking? Please advise. Thanks! http://www.mirs.gov.si/fileadmin/um.gov.si/pageuploads/Dokpdf/SPK/EUzigi.pdf (page 35) http://www.keurtekens.nl/ http://www.zilverenbedels.nl/info/i-keurtekens.htm
  4. Pictures: http://imgur.com/a/TG23L Hey everyone, just got this Monte Rosa from a online-auction house, not sure if its a real MB-MR. The case is that when I write for example, 200 words or so the won't write as well at the end, the ink don't flow until I screw the piston a bit, this is my first pistonfiller so I am not sure if I should turn it everytime to get out some ink every 200 words or its just going to flow automatic. The second picture you can see that the last two straight lines is the last one until the pen stopped totally working, until i twist it again. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks!
  5. Doing my usual eBay cruising while my son sleeps and found these three auctions for MB pens: 1. Green hatch pattern w/replacement gold nib 2. Cream & gold w/glass nib 3. Cream & pearl w/gold glass nib When I started looking at the pens in detail, I noticed a few things: - the MB stamps look kind of 'modern' (font, imprint has gunk around it, which I've never seen w/any of my vintage MBs, and certainly not on the 14x Meisterstucks...) - the Meisterstuck is engraved at the end of the cap and the 'K' looks like it's wiped out - the MB stars look a little like decals - the clips are all wrong (although there's plenty of MBs with replacement clips out there) - the blind caps look strange (FWIW, these could be replacements...) - there's no cap bands and/or WW-II era engravings where the cap bands would have been otherwise - I don't ever remember seeing an MB with a glass nib...although I don't see why these couldn't exist. This triggered my memory of Francis' previous post of his fake vintage MB and it made me wonder if these are now filtering through to eBay? Maybe I'm just paranoid (I've been accused of worse) but what do you think?

Greetings From The San Joaquin Delta

New here. Have always had a fondness for fountain pens and started using them early in life. Grew up in the next city block over from original headquarters of Montblanc in Hamburg. Came here to have a question answered regarding a T.S. Dupont Classique pen I own.
  8. Hello, I have a beautiful Aurora International 98. I used to refill it using an used Aurora cartridge. It works, but I'm not sure I would offer a gift with a syringe, or even sell it. By some serendipity, my local fountain pen shop had an Aurora converter that is supposed to work for this model. I tried it, and it seemed to work. But as soon as I tried to fill the pen up, it became obvious that the converter was a bit looser than with the cartridge. In fact, the section fell into the ink pot. On the second try, I could make it suck ink. It worked for a while, but it became obvious that the ink was leaking from where the converter made contact with the nipple. So I flushed the pen and the converter, disassembling the converter to make sure it was OK. So here is my question: would it be possible to put a bit of silicon grease to "seal" the converter around the nipple? I know that 13$ is not a big deal, but my first motivation to dive into the universe of fountain pens was to stop wasting plastic and start taking care of my stuff. I am willing to try about any solution, as long as someone, somewhere, is willing to help me out by sharing his or her experience. Sorry if my question has already been answered before, but I did try to scratch my own itch, but could not find anything after an hour of search and reading previous thread. Thanks, w

    What Makes Montblanc #1 ?

I am curious to gather some more opinions on what, for many of us, makes Montblanc the #1 in fountain pens. In my modest collection I am lucky to have several interesting fountain pens like Omas, Nakaya, Sailor, Graf von Faber Castell etc. What makes Montblanc #1 or among the very best (if not the best) fountain pen in my opinion is: a) The Nib. Extremely consistent and a pleasure to write with. I am absolutely puzzled by some of the expert opinions of e.g. Japanese Nibs being better etc. I do own several Japanese pens that are yes, truly gorgeous, but in terms of writing experience not comparable Montblanc. (I appreciate that this is highly subjective and for a fine or ultra fine nib it might be different..) b ) Uniqueness: like in some special editions like the Montblanc L'Aubrac (that I have purchased recently and to me it is truly gorgeous. See the enclosed photos) but also on the regular editions there is an element of distinctive uniqueness in every montblanc. c) Distinctive and Exclusive: I appreciate that this might not be relevant to everyone but pens are also a statement and Montblanc is probably the most widely recognised brand in fountain pens. d) Something magic ? I think that there is something magic in the Montblanc writing that I cannot easily narrow down or experience with other fountain pens. e) Value: I think that in many cases a Montblanc represent a good value for what you pay. More obscure brand can charge as much or even more than a Montblanc without providing the same value (which can also be seen on second hand prices). What is your experience and what, in your opinion, makes a Montblanc special or the #1 of fountain pens? Thanks for sharing ! Christian
  11. Hi everyone ! Have you ever held the perfect pen, I mean the pen that is perfect for you, that suits all your needs. The first time you wrote with it, had something different that you cannot really explain perfectly. Well that is the case of the Montblanc Classic. It is pretty similar to the 221 and the Genreration, fitted with a medium 14 k semi-flexible nib. Here is my review, the more objective way possible. The look : Very classic, vintage look to it. Does not look like the modern Montblanc's and it is a good thing ! very original for a montblanc but if you step away from theses brand standards you see a beautiful pen, very classy. The nib section of the pen is absolutely amazing. I often get great comments about it ! "What montblanc is this" "I've never seen this before ? what is the model name ?" The nib : It is a VERY smooth nib ! very enjoyable. It is a 14k semi-flexible nib... When I bought it, the selle told me that the nib was flexible... well I can't say that the nib is "flexible"... Is is way more " semi-flexible" than flexible. Thus, It has a great feeling to it, pretty sprigny, the perfect everyday writer. Weight and balance : It is a pretty lightweight pen (about 16g), made of a plastic like material. However, it is perfectly balanced and does not feel cheap. It is very pleasant to hold and you can write for a long long time without being uncomfortable. Personally, I like heavier pens... but the classic is so well balanced and comfortable that it is not an issue at all. Feed : You have to love wet pens because it is flowing generously. It is incredible..... I mean it never stops or dries out : you could write at max speed for 5 hours and if there is ink in the converter, it will never stop or skip, it will be as wet as in the first minute. Conclusion : It is my favorite pen, I use it everyday and I like absolutely everything about this pen. The only thing that could be better is the weight and construction, since the pen is very light. Grab one if you can ! And once again, I don't like giving notes to the pens I review : writing is personal, so I let you make an idea with the information I give ! *** English is not my first language so please understand if I made some mistakes in the reveiw, I hope it is helpful and interesting and if you have any comments, I will be more than happy to read them
  12. I found an orange and gold Montblanc Generation that I found in an old junk drawer. I am almost certain it is authentic. It is engraved with an ING company logo. The pen appears to be in pretty good shape, no cracks or major blemishes. I would like to sell it, but have no idea what it is worth, or where to get started. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  13. I am considering purchasing either a Montblanc 149 or a 146. It will have an XF nib. I am leaning towards the 149 but am afraid it may be too large. I am a woman with a larger hand but have never used a larger pen. Has anyone had a 149 that they felt was too large? Thank you
  14. Morning all! I'm a novice fountain pen 'collector', have been writing with fountain pens for about a year and a half. I'm looking into getting a vintage pen. I've recently purchased a beautiful vintage Waterman's fine flex in robin's egg blue, which is beautiful. I'm now looking at a few choices in Montblanc. I'm looking for a really good flex pen in Montblanc, but I'm not familiar with Montblanc's number system. If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it! Here are my choices: Montblanc Meisterstuck 114 Mozart w/ M 14k gold nib, 585 engraved, very good condition - $259 Mid 1950s Montblanc 344 w/ EF full flex, solid 14c gold nib, 585 engraved, very good condition - $290 1939 Montblanc 332 w/ Oblique Medium #2 flex nib, near-mint condition - $265 Thank you! - Devon

    Lucky Findings

So I was walking in town today and entered one of the local office supplies shop. And bought following items: 1. 3 bottle of MontBlanc blue-black (permanent) 50 ml for only 1$ per bottle (yes, you heard/read me right). 2. 2 bottle of Parker Quink Red. I believe there are also old stock since the bottles look different. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. 3. 2 bottle of Pelikan TG-1 blue-black(permanent) 50 ml for 4$. It seems these are made in Turkey in 1993. But, it smells too bad (I mean really horrible) and too pale when I write with it. I believe they gone bad. I'm not sure I can us these, but I'll keep the bottles for sure. MontBlanc just writes awesome. I asked the people if they have more of it but they couldn't find any. I attached the photo just for the fun! Cheers!
  16. A friend of mine suffered a tremendous loss when her car was broken in while she was in church. The thief stole a purse which he hung up on a fence a few hundred yards away. Unfortunately, he got some of her pens, including her favorite a Montblanc Gaius Maecenas #3707/4810 along with four other lesser pens. This happened in the Washington D.C. suburbs. If anyone stumbles upon 3707 while perusing online or pawn shops please respond.
  17. Just purchased 2 used MB pens. Both pens are Vermeil (gold over silver) with Bordeaux barrels. Had some questions about the pens; Neither pen has the "pix" stamp on the back of the clipClassique BP has "metal2" on top band (above clip)Le Grand RB has "metal3" on top banc (above clip)The hallmark stamps are present and correct. Unfortunately I'm unable to post any pics. Comments? Thanks in advance. Razr
  18. I had a burgundy meisterstuck passed on to me from my Father. Had it for close to 16 years until I lost it. I went on ebay and purchased another burgundy meisterstuck. I confirmed with the local Montblanc store of its authenticity. My dilemma is this: it is significantly lighter than my original one. I thought it was me, but everyone in the family who has handled the new one says the same thing. Is there something I can do (i.e. go to the mont blanc store perhaps and ask for it to be "weighted" (I dont even know what that means, but the pens does not feel "right" to me. Thanks yall! lisa
  19. Happy New Year everyone! There is a Masterpiece 644G up for sale around here, and I'm really thinking about it. The nib is EF and it looks nice, but the piston leaks at the top when its going down. Otherwise it moves smoothly and the pen takes up ink as it should. So as it seems now, the cork seal needs to be replaced. http://www.kepfeltoltes.hu/131231/5dd6_1_big_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg http://www.kepfeltoltes.hu/131231/5dd6_5_big_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg http://www.kepfeltoltes.hu/131231/5dd6_6_big_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg http://www.kepfeltoltes.hu/131231/5dd6_7_big_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg

    Vintage Mont Blanc Inkwell

Hi there, I'm new to this forum, so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong section etc. I've found an old Mont Blanc inkwell (I think it's called 'Shoe'?) that I'm looking to sell. Any idea what this item might be worth? I've got no knowledge about ink or Mont Blanc at all, so any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance, N.
  21. Hello all, i asked this question down in the MB forum but it doesnt seem to see the same activity as this so i thought id post it up here in hopes to get a reply. I recently purchased a Montblanc 149 from the classifieds (it is in shipping atm). The listing is here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/classifieds/item/24120-the-three-kings/ I bought the fine nib, split feed. Looking at this thread:https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/170282-dating-montblanc-149s/ and looking at the facts of it being 14k, with split ebonite feed it dates to somewhere between 1985 and 1990 (which means it may very well be slightly older, younger, or even the same age as myself) The pen is said to be unused, in original packaging. It seems like itd be rare to find this situation. older-ish very high quality pen, completely uninked, and in original packaging. Are there any concerns with something like this? Should i be worried about how it will perform having just sat in a box for so long? I dont really have any concerns about it being a fake but is it a real consideration?
  22. I have a Montblanc sterling silver solitaire rollerball that is at least 20 years old. It is in immaculate condition. The 925 stamp is at the top of the pen not at the center of the barrel. Is there any collector value in this pen?
  23. Great news! We just got the much awaited bottle of the Montblanc Leonardo Red Chalk ink bottle. Limited Quantities are available and the ink took some time to come from Germany!!! The color is a great sepia color and has a dullness ( hence chalk) similar to JOnathan Swift Sea weed green ink bottle. If you have a broad point fountain pen then you are going to love to splash this ink on the paper and see it making beautiful letters on the paper..( did we sell it!!!!!!!) Cost of the ink bottle is $17/- To order: http://www.penboutique.com/p-11416-montblanc-leonardo-red-chalk-30-ml-ink-bottle-refill-category.aspx http://www.penboutique.com/images/product/large/11416_1_.jpg
  24. This is just a bit of a rant, and probably not the correct forum, but I was watching an auction for a 149 on the bay. The pictures were kind of vague and after no bids the same person made 5 bids, another person came in and raised in by $1 UDS the that same person made another bit for $200 USD more!?!?!? This is also after checking the hidden bids. Does this kind of thing happen a lot?
