    Vintage Montblanc Nib

Hi I recently acquired a vintage 149 montblanc pen with a juicy fine nib 18 c. I filled it with Iroshizuku black take sumi , and the pen is just a wonderfull, writer , no skipping , no start up issues. However laying down the pen a few minutes reveals a small abundancy of ink around the breathing hole. Should I be worried about it ? Thanks for advice
  2. okay I came across this pen at a good price . the seller seemed nice and had a few good pictures. so I bought it. the seller even included an extra rollerball refill in the price. when I received and checked the pen, I noticed that there was no serial no. on the pen cap. that made me paranoid....because of the no of starwalker fakes out there. so here are the images...please let me know what you think.I know it is a rollerball/fineliner... but I assumed I can still use the knowledge pool here at fpn. thank you for any help in advance. and excuse me for the pics...I used ipad mini for these. I can upload more pics if needed. http://i.imgur.com/mpUVItU.jpg http://i.imgur.com/YoH51ms.jpg on the packed refill there was a sticker indicating it was imported by entrack ltd (authorised distributor of montblanc in india). I tried to remove it, and it came off. http://i.imgur.com/5ULQfcW.jpg http://i.imgur.com/czXJ4j5.jpg there is quite a lot of ink damage. on flipping the cushion there is a slot for 2 pens. http://i.imgur.com/uwlg7oD.jpg http://i.imgur.com/IYGL2Na.jpg http://i.imgur.com/wsjMv18.jpg http://i.imgur.com/tl3KzWN.jpg it does say Germany metal pix under the clip. regards Vikram

    Racing Green - Montblanc

I believe that people who work in Montblanc headquarters are evil-minded. If ther were good, we could buy Racing Green in every boutique. Unhappily we can't. We can win an auction and pay crazy amount of money for this ink but it's not good deal Anyway I've rexceived the sample from fellow FPNer and I must say I like this hue a lot. A lot. 4. I recently bought a vintage MB pen online but am slightly confused as to which model it is. I'm told it's from the 50s and made in Germany and the nib says monte rosa on it but the rest of the pen doesn't seem to match the monte rosa descriptions I've seen online. It doesn't have the scalloped band on the cap, which is also engraved with Montblanc, not monterosa and has the white star (not an engraving). There's no model number on it, but it has STB on the piston pump knob. Is the pen a real montblanc? If so, what model is ist, a monte rosa or another model with another nib? Thanks for any help you can give me! I've attched a couple of photos to help.
  5. Introduction As announced in my review about the MB POA Semiramis, here it is finally: A review of another beautiful pen from the Patron of Art series: Max von Oppenheim. Montblanc started the release of this Patron of Art series in 1992 with the, now famous and highly wanted, Medici pen. These limited editions only consist of a fountain pen in a lacquered wooden box and are released in spring. Two versions of this series are issued: a 4810 version (limited to 4.810 pieces) and an 888 version (limited to 888 pieces), made of more precious materials. The pen under review here is the 4810-version, issued in 2009. So, this really great pen is a tribute to Max von Oppenheim. Who was he, that Montblanc dedicates a pen in the Patron of Art series to him? Max von Oppenheim (born 1860) was a German lawyer, diplomat, ancient historian, and archaeologist. He is most famous for his studies of Middle Eastern culture and the discovery of the site of Tell Halaf in 1899. After leaving the diplomatic service he started excavations there in 1911 and again in 1929. He brought many of his finds to Berlin and exhibited them in a private museum. Max von Oppenheim, who has been called "the last of the great amateur archaeological explorers of the Near East", died in 1946. The site of Tell Halaf dates to the 6th millennium BC. During the excavations Oppenheim found the ruins of the Aramaean town of Guzana, which flourished at the turn of the 2nd / 1st millennium BC. After a revolt, the Aramaean palace had been destroyed and the town plundered by the Assyrian queen Semiramis and in 808 BC Guzana became an Assyrian province. This event is the link between the MBPOA pens Semiramis and Max von Oppenheim, two pens I both like; because of the theme of the pen as well as the shown craftsmanship in making them. Let’s take a closer look to the pen now. Appearance & Design (9/10) The (sealed) Oppenheim pen comes in a black (dark green inside) lacquered wooden inner box with booklet, a brown outer box with a picture of stone carvings (on the booklet there is the same picture) and a white cardboard box sleeve. On the wooden box there is a lion (tiger?) figure and the Montblanc logo. boxes and boxes The pen itself is made of 925 sterling silver with translucent grey lacquer inlays, that gives the pen a beautiful three-dimensional effect. On the cap and barrel of this pen are gold plated rings that bear a geometric pattern which can be found not only on the greatest discovery of Von Oppenheim – the facade of the temple palace – but also on prehistoric ceramics from Tell Halaf. Pen in the box pattern of the barrel and cap The centre band of the pen is decorated with reliefs inspired by motifs on the temple façade as well. This engravings have a very good level of detail. The number of the pen is on top of the cap, just under the gold plated ring, next to the clip. The silverstamps are placed on the grip of the pen. detail center band pen detail centerband pen nib detail silverstamps The pen has a rhodium plated 18k – 750 golden nib (size M) with a fine engraving of a Bedouin caravan, the year of issue (2009) and the Montblanc logo. I’m told that the engraving stands for “Oppenheim’s major contribution to research into the history and culture of the Bedouins and his life as a Bedouin during his explorations”. Well, if they say so. I just think it’s a nicely engraved nib that suites the pen well. Construction & Quality (9/10) This truly is a heavyweight pen and it feels very solid. The pen opens quickly with just 1 full turn of the cap. The piston works very smoothly as well. So nothing to complain here for me. pen outof the box detail cap with number of the pen Weight & Dimensions (8/10) Some pen-statistics: Length capped: app. 14,5 cmLength uncapped / unposted: app. 13 cmLength posted: not possible to post this penLength pen cap: app. 6,1 cmDiameter: pen: app. 1,4 cm on the , on the grip: 1,1 cm Weight capped: 72 gramsWeight uncapped: 42 gramsSo I didn’t exaggerate: this really is a heavy pen that would ruin your breast pocket if you were planning to put it there when not in use. But: I like writing with it. It is very well balanced in my hand and I think I could write with it for hours on end easily (I never have to write that long in a row though ). Because of the weight and the perfect balance in the hand, it is not necessary to post this pen. And that is quite convenient, while posting this pen is not possible. Nib & Performance (7,5/10) The pen on review here has a rhodium-plated 18k – 750 golden medium nib. Montblanc gives his POA’s standard from factory a fine or medium nib. If you want a different line on your paper, the pen has to go on a holiday to Hamburg for a while for a nib exchange. This could be a disadvantage for some of us. But most of my pens have a f- or m-nib, so for me it’s ok. The pen writes a nice and true medium wet line on the paper. It does this smoothly with just a little feedback; the way I like it . Sometimes, when writing fast, the nib talks to me. As if it would say: “no, not to fast, enjoy our moment and relax a bit”! nib & cap detail Filling System & Maintenance (8/10) The pen has a piston-filling mechanism for use with bottled ink. It is what I expect with this kind of pens. I use this pen frequently and the piston still runs very smoothly (although my LE Pelican runs smoother). It holds a good amount of ink: I can write just over a week with this pen on one fill. You can conclude from that I don’t write that much, which is true. But I have pens that need a refill after an couple of days. Cost & Value (9/10) This pen was (or is?) not the POA most asked for. So when I bought it, prices where well under the original retail price. Good for me, because I like this pen very much and I enjoy writing with it. And imho: that counts a lot! But I think the pen gives good value for money given the used materials and detailed finishing as well (not only for the pen but for its box as well), even for the original retail price. Conclusion (Final score 8.4) So, we have to come to a final conclusion now: In short: I like this pen a lot. It has great looks and finishing. There is a nice and subtle relief on the pen that makes that I want to hold it. When using this pen, I often find myself playing with it (my colleagues are used to my sometimes somewhat strange pen habits by now, so I don’t have to worry about it ). Furthermore: It writes very well and the theme of the pen (archaeology) appeals to me. pen and its inspiration This is a pen I will enjoy for a long, long time. And to everyone who likes silver pens that are on the heavy site of the spectrum, piston-filled, with a special touch in finishing and not that common I would say: highly recommended! (but of course I’m not entirely objective in this manner )

    Montblanc Albert Einstein

This one has been near the top of my Looking for Rationalizations to Buy list for a while. Unfortunately, there's no place I've seen that sells samples. Fortunately, I bought something from FPN classifieds and the seller kindly threw in a fistfull of samples, this one included. So, Einstein. He was known for having gray hair. And this is gray ink. I guess that's the connection. Or it could be *relatively* black. Either way, we come to gray ink. It's got a pretty good flow. About like any good ink. It's definitely gray, and not just watered down black, which I worried about. It has some water resistance, which is nice. Overall, there's nothing really really special about it. It's a good behaved gray ink that doesn't completely run away in the sight of water. It's nice to write with. I'd take some. But sadly, I can't really rationalize getting Einstein fan crazy over it, unlike De Atramentis Sherlock Holmes or Organics Studio Edgar Allan Poe. I wish they'd done something more special for Einstein.
  7. Hi again. I recently posted about what blue black I should buy. After a few people replied I have decided on Montblanc Midnight Blue. If anyone in Australia, preferably NSW, has any and is willing to send me a sample it would be much appreciated, as the cheapest I could find it for was $35 posted, which is quite expensive, and I don't want to risk having a bottle of ink sitting around not getting used. Thanks.
  8. Among Montblanc collectors there are different opinions on the origin of the white star logo which was introduced by Montblanc in 1913. Holten/Lund introduce a new theory in their book Montblanc in Denmark 1914-1992 - The Untold Story: "The origin of the star logo has been discussed among pen collectors for many years. Though no solid proof the authors of the book believe it is no coincidence that the Montblanc headquarters from 1908 was situated in the Hamburg borough "STERNSCHANZE". The word "STERN" is "STAR" in English - STERNSCHANZE means STARFORTIFICATION (a fortification with the shape of a STAR)." The old fortification "Sternschanze" was situated only a few hundred meters from the Montblanc headquarters in Bartelstrasse/Schanzenstrasse. Shops and restaurangs used (and still uses) a white star as symbol of the district of Schanzenstern. The old Sternschanze fortification is long gone - today there is a beautifull hotel situated on the place - an old watertower rebuild to Hotel Mövenpick am Wasserthurm. When visiting Hamburg (Traditional Hamburg Penshow Oct. 3rd) I always order a room with a viev to the old Montblanc factory.

Montblanc We Daniel Defoe - F

I just got the delivery of my WE Daniel Defoe with an F nib. I liked the look of this pen from the first sighting. I like the color of the pen body and cap as it looks like a laquered wood. I am guessing each pen has different "marble" pattern. The clip's drawing is done with laser, it seems. It looks very sharp and precise. I like it. The cap ring and piston nob are nicely detailed. The MB star at the top of the cap does not show the typical "aged" color. It is as white as the regular 146 and 149. I prefer the aged color of my other WE pens. The pen is nicely weighed. But, the step on the pen body is a tad sharper than I expected. At least, it won't cut my fingers. So, that issue is not going to be a problem. I will let the pictures do the review. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4763_zpseaeaf945.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4764_zpsb3a7c302.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4766_zpsb3cee038.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4767_zpsd7ba18e4.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4769_zps5ddeaccc.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4771_zps1202be83.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4772_zps64dd98ea.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4774_zps848fb010.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4770_zps09dc08e2.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4773_zps0daab459.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4775_zps025fe89a.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4778_zps03ea2ef3.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4777_zpsd1d11092.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4776_zps680e6b60.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4785_zps24c8377f.jpg The nib. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4780_zpsbe871e02.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4779_zps5bb7f496.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4781_zps0fca5f09.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4782_zpsbab6b774.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4783_zpsbf3a6695.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4784_zps8a69749c.jpg The family photo http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4786_zpsb0d631d7.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/YS2003/IMG_4787_zps002507a4.jpg
  10. Hi everyone, I have recently acquired a Montblanc Meisterstuck pen and I am wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a piece missing from the cap. When I close the pen it does not snap on securely. Can anyone shed light on this? Thank you, Sherryl
  11. I've recently got a virtually new 149 medium nib off ebay, but the nib frequently skips. I can write with it fine, but as I say it skips and I get a lot of feedback, and if I wanted that I could have made do with a Jinhao 159. I wouldn't mind swapping the nob for a broad, but does anyone have any tips about how to make it write smoother as it is? Thanks
  12. I bought a second-hand fountain pen, the patron of art Peter the great from the eBay. The description of the item was good in function. But the pen was broken when it arrived. The broken part was inner plastic barrel like the picture. The seller told me the pen can be repaired at Montblanc service but the certification was not stump by the origin store (He said that he bought it from NY montblanc store last Nov.) He also told he can refund USD 100 for repairment. I ask the montblanc service but they did not want to answer the approximate price for repairment. Does it deserve to repair it? Is there anyone know how much does it cost to repair it?

    Montblanc Ballpoint Pen

Hi, I've earned two used Meisterstuck Montblanc Ballpoint Pen and I was wondering if there is any way to find out the model because I would like to buy a rollerball refill for it. It does have serial number but I don't have the box. Thank you all. Photo attached

    Montblanc 149 Nib Tipping

My mum's just found a 149 lying around in one of her drawers. It looks like it has never been inked, and is in overall mint condition. Except, I've noticed that the nib tipping on the underside seems almost nonexistent. Compared to other nibs, this seems very strange. Is this normal, or could it possibly be a damage to the nib? Compared to other nibs
  15. I've never seen this pen before and i can't find it on the Mb web-site, but after looking for others it seems like a remarkably low price. I would have to say I don't like the dragon as much as the one called the Imperial Dragon.

    Montblanc 90Th For Sonnet Lover

I'm am seriously considering the Montblanc Meisterstuck 90th anniversary fountain pen. I found out that I exactly have 3 choices: 149 Classique LeGrandI do not know which one is the best for me! If what I heard is right, the only difference between these three is the size. Which one of the three is the closest to the Parker Sonnet in size? (The size of Parker Sonnet is perfect for me) Thank You, William S. Park EDIT: Typos
  17. Just a photo of the current display - it was nice to see some of the old WEs in stock (mostly as a part of sets). I haven't seen some of them in the flesh before. I have always liked the look of the Shaw, but the Faulkner took me by surprise. Writers editions in Birmingham Montblanc by Bigeddie100, on Flickr

    My First Montblanc

Hello everyone! I am not only new to this site, but also to this particular forum and the world of Montblancs. I have practiced Calligraphy for some time now, and I have been thinking about buying a Montblanc pen, most probably the Meisterstuck. My question is the following; outside of a financial perspective, would you all recommend buying a modern Meisterstuck fountain pen, or going for a vintage one, and why? Once more, do not take finances into question as I am merely interested in the quality of the pen. Furthermore, if you would recommend something other than a Meisterstuck please do say so, along with why! Thank you all for taking the time to read, and hopefully answer, this!
  19. Hi, I received my MB Edgar Allan Poe fountain pen from GoPens today. It is one of the most beautiful pens I've ever seen. A BLUE Montblanc! I'm in heaven. When I unscrewed the piston, however, I noticed that it didn't unscrew very far. I've inked the pen and am writing with it quite happily. But, I am wondering about the ink capacity of the pen. It just didn't seem like it sucked up much ink with so few turns of the piston. I've looked on the MB website and Googled, but I can't find the specs for this pen. I am afraid to twist the piston past what seems to be the stopping point, though I discovered that my vintage MBs have a sort of two-step turning process. Any help would be appreciated.
  20. Hello there I just acquired my first Montblanc fountain pen, but it's very old and has a lot of problems. There is no text on it - only "MONT BLANC" written on the cap and the clip, so I've had troubles identifying it myself. If anyone has an idea what pen this might be, please tell me. The nib says: WARRANTED 14 CT CSMI IRIDIUM First of all, I haven't been able to fill it. The top has an etched line which I suspected screwed of to reveal a button, but with a closer inspections, I've concluded it's not a seperate part. I'm now pretty sure that it screws at the section, but I've tried everything, and it's just stuck. Can anyone confirm this? I've tried to dip it ink and write with a little bit anyways. The nib is in a really bad shape, and is the most scratchy I've ever tried. It's placed asymmetrically on the feed, so I'm guessing the nib can be changed? What standard would that be? Look at the photos, and I would be glad to get some answers to my questions.

    Cruise Collection Ballpoint

I have just purchased a MontBlanc Cruise Collection Ballpoint from www.martemodena.it. I have noticed it doesn't have PIX under the clip, does this apply to fountain pens only or does this also apply to MontBlanc ballpoint pens? Thanks Andrew
  22. Hi everyone! I am new here and just acquired my first Montblanc. It is a Montblanc 144. I bought this pen on ebay and I was wondering if you guys thought it was real or not. The box shows made in West Germany and the gold sticker on the pen shows M W-Germany. However the clip shows Germany on it and the serial number is two letters followed by six numbers. The nib passes the magnet test. The threads on the barrel are brass, but the converter that came with the pen appears to be the old style push in type. I am attaching pictures for you guys to see. Does anyone know what year this pen may be from? Thanks for your help!
  23. Hello! I´m new here because I've found in the middle of my mom's stuff a Montblanc Meisterstuck cartridge fountain pen and have been told it's quite expensive, and would love to know its real worth, if it´s worthy... It has no case, it says 14K gold nib, around the ring Meisterstuck Germany. Coul anyone tell me about this pen? Its year, how much it could be sold for? If it's worth keeping? Thank you!

Shock / Surprise Of The Day

During the past five years or so, I have been watching for, bidding on, and losing eBay auctions for Montblanc Writers Edition Oscar Wilde ballpoint pens. For the latest Oscar Wilde ballpoint pen auction of interest to me, I bid, was outbid, and then bid again, as usual, several times during the duration of the auction. Not expecting to win, since I never have in the past, I bid once again this afternoon before taking my sister to the train station. When I checked the listing for the auction ending price a couple hours ago, I was shocked and surprised to find that I had won the auction! This has never happened before -- that is, I won the auction without any last-second bidding. In fact, my last bid was placed over two hours before the end of the auction! I had managed to buy an Oscar Wide pencil first-hand (with all papers and boxes) from a pen store a few years ago -- the only Oscar Wilde series piece that I had seen in any pen store. After that, I had started watching for the pens on eBay. So, now, I must wait for the delivery of my new Oscar Wilde ballpoint pen! To date, this will be the most expensive single pen that I have ever purchased; my purchase of a four-piece (pencil, ballpoint, fountain pen, rollerball) Caran D'Ache Hexagonal Escalie (sp??) brown lacquer set on eBay is my only purchase for which the price was higher -- about twice as high as for this pen. Yikes! But, truth be told, the Caran D'Ache Hexagonal set is FANTASTIC and each piece writes like a dream, making the set well worth the price and one of my favorites. The Oscar Wilde ballpoint pen that I won has one of the lowest winning auction prices for an Oscar Wilde ballpoint pen that I have ever seen on eBay. It would seem that the other bidders forgot the ending time for the auction based on how rapidly they had outbid my other bids. The only lower-priced listing including an Oscar Wilde ballpoint pen that I have seen was for a ballpoint pen and pencil set listed by a seller that did not have a sufficient long-term feedback rating for my tastes and the pencil (which I did not need anyway) had some condition issued. So, now, I must endure the anticipation of receiving my new Oscar Wilde ballpoint pen! Darn international shipping -- at least five days to wait for the arrival. Of course, it could be longer as my last pen took a detour to another city -- tracking listed the pen as "missent" -- due to the postal service. Stuff happens. LOL! : )
