    Help Identifying Pen

What kind of Montblanc is this? I haven't seen one before. Is it like a tintenktuli?
  2. I didnt intend to be the proud owner of this beautiful display today, a piece of luck really. From a closed shop this is the impressively solid 146 mirrored display case with the 8 versions of the 146 pen, together with ink display and huge nibs. All pens as we know are perfectly operational, other than the M they have only been dipped with clear ink windows. On the top it has come with 8 full bottles of Montblanc ink in, as I say a really solidly designed box. Its heavy! Not sure about the oversized nibs in the tray, assume they are used to show purchasers a big ( and heavy) version of the nibs they are purchasing. I assume the slots behind the ink bottles are for paper/ card on which to practice. Anyway good fun and a nice quirky addition to the collection.
  3. Hi all I posted more pics of this purchase on the Montblanc forum but I just wondered if anyone else can help tell me what the big metal nibs in this set are for? Are they simply ways for the shop to show potential purchasers the difference in shape of the nibs they can then test? They are big and heavy.
  4. There's a wonderful gentleman in Holland who collects and trades Montblanc pens. I've had the good fortune of obtaining my old 146 EF from him some time ago and today I visited him once more to admire his incredible collection of Montblanc goodness. Many different pens were tried, including F, KF, M, OM, OB, OBB and a slew of other nibs. I personally lean towards nibs that draw a finer line on the page and preferably add character to the text, such as "stubbish" and "architect-ish" nibs. I've learned to ignore MB nibsizes and to just try everything, since variability between nibs is high. Anyway, today I fell in love with a New Old Stock 342 in lovely burgundy red, with a nib labeled "F arrow". I can't display a real downward arrow here, but there is an actual little arrow on the piston knob next to the F. I'm assuming this indicates a semi-flex or flex nib. That, it certainly is. Whether it's an F, well, that's debatable. It's a stubbish nib, just as I like it. Downstrokes are western M, sidestrokes are western F to EF. The nib is extremely bouncy and feathery, very cushiony and totally addictive even if I don't use its flex capacity. Inking this old pen up for the first time in its 61 years of existence was a very special experience. It writes like a dream. No other pen I own makes my writing look this good. The writing sample really doen't do it justice, nor do the photos, which were taken indoors by artificial light. The price sticker is still on the pen: 32.50 Kr, which indicates the pen was originally sold in Scandinavia somewhere. All things considered, this is one helluva nice pen. Sure, the material doesn't feel as high-end like the Meisterstück pens, but if a pen writes this well, then who cares?
  5. I found this beautiful photo... but, is it a true MB? . NOTE: May not upload because I am using a tablet to do this for the 1rst time.

    Serial Number Engraving And Font

I am used to seeing a more digital looking fond with serifs and more angular font. Is this good? EDIT- I forgot to mention previously that the owner did have this 149 serviced by Montblanc and has that paperwork.
  8. Hi all A business acquaintance of mine has a MB but does not know the model (not helpful I know) but just looking for some general advice. The barrel has a large crack where it was trapped in a desk drawer upon closing. What would you advise as the best course of action: Send to MB for a replacement (or repair if possible)Try to source a replacement elsewhere (eg independent specialist, eBay) If anyone knows of an independent specialist, that would be great. I will try to get a photo but in the meantime, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Jon
  9. I know most of you have fountain pens to write, but I mostly use a fountain pen to sketch. Here is a page of sketches using Montblanc UNICEF ink in a Montblanc M with a fine nib.
  10. Until now, I have been really happy with ink flow with my Montblanc M Ultra Black. I could pull out the pen and it would keep writing or sketching until I put it away. In the recent month or so, I am not so happy. I will pull the pen out, the ink will flow fine for several minutes, and then no ink will flow from the pen. I will usually have to violently shake the pen to get the ink flowing again. I have been using both Montblanc Mystery Black ink and Montblanc UNICEF ink and have experienced this behavior with both. I have disassembled and soaked the pen for about half an hour in filtered water between changing ink, but the behavior comes back. The pen gets used daily. Do I need to soak the pen overnight, use pen cleaner, or does the pen need to go to Montblanc for service? Thanks for your responses. Here is a photo of the pen.
  11. Hi all, Ive been using fountain pens for a while, but fairly new to Montblanc pens. Im thinking about purchasing a consigned pen from what seems like a reputable seller. Has anyone seen this particular pen before, or know if there are any dead giveaways on its authenticity, and what might be a fair price. It seems to be a 144 Doué from what I can tell, but any help would be me much appreciated. Thanks! V

    149 F-M Nib Question

Is this a common appearance on F-M nibs? The extra tipping on the face side of the nib. I didn't notice the baby's bottom while writing but it is definitely there although it writes very well.

    Montblanc 149 Real Or Fake

Hi Guys, Just having a look on eBay, an online retail shop selling the Meisterstuck 149 Red Gold. They have two of these and many other various Montblanc pens, wonder if you could let me know if it is legitimate or not. Here is the link below: http://www.ebay.com.my/itm/381255645201?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Kind Regards,
  15. At the recent Pelikan Hubs gathering, a friend showed me a new Hero from China, with a safety and piston filling mechanism that worked just like a Montblanc Heritage 1912. It was branded as a Hero, and was not a Montblanc replica, but I was surprised that they had going to the trouble to copy this rather complicated mechanism. Now I see every day on eBay numerous "MB" replicas of the Heritage 1912 in black, red, steel, and possibly other colors. There are also many "MB" Rouge et Noir fakes available, even one with the matte hard rubber finish of the 1906 limited edition. The vendors are selling these at prices so low that no serious collector would mistake them for the real thing, but there is nothing to stop anyone from trying to represent them as real Montblancs, which would get a much higher price from an unsuspecting bidder.

    149 Feed Markings

I have not see an 1990s feed like this one although I am told by a few that it is all good. What does the A mean on the feed?
  17. Isn't it time Montblanc issued more attention to entertainment industry? The Art series or other ones barely pick any person from film industry. I remember seeing only Marilyn Manroe special edition and a Hitchcock ink. Seriously? So many pens after writers, musicians, politicians and others. Why not filmmakers or actors or producers? Please add the special film people you wish to see Montblanc special editions in. My list: 1. DAVID LEAN: (Look of pen perhaps inspired by Dr.Zhivago's winter visuals or Lawrence of Arabia's brown desert against blue sky theme or even the 'mirage' scene that introduces Omar Sheriff) https://giphy.com/gifs/maudit-maudit-so-pretty-lawrence-of-arabia-J4OQbin983bZ6?utm_source=media-link&utm_medium=landing&utm_campaign=Media%20Links&utm_term= 2. STANELY KUBRICK: (Design perhaps inspired by the final drop of the bomb in "Dr.Strangelove" much like the current Antoine Saint-Exupéry limited edition. Or, the "War Rooom" design from the same film. ) or (Design inspired by the ultimate evil look of the poster of “A Clockwork Orange”) or (Inspired by the eerie twins in the corridor scene in “The Shining” OR the Jack Nicholson scene at the door with the axe (“Here is Johnny”) OR the ‘maze scene’ in the climax) or (Look inspired by “A Space Odyssey” product design or art direction which more or less can be a similar theme for a limited edition pen in honor of Steve Jobs) or (An eternal youth look inspired by “Loita”) 3. HUMPHREY BOGART or CASABLANCA 4. GODFATHER 5. TIM BURTON: (Edward Scissorhands or his other umpteen films so beautifully visualized and in Gothic look, perhaps)

    Midnight Blue - Montblanc

It seems that in 2010 Montblanc changed the manufacturer of their ink as well as the design of the bottle. The company's issued a new, larger (60 ml vs 50 ml) bottle. To be honest I find Montblanc bottle not only nice but also practical, much better than Iroshizuku or Sailor. The new colours launched in 2010 include: Burgundy Red Irish Green Lavender Purple Mystery Black Midnight Blue Oyster Grey Royal Blue Toffee Brown Midnight Blue is supposed to be a permanent ink with ferro-gallic content. Ferro-gallic ink typically flows onto the paper in a lighter shade than becomes darker when it dries. I like the color and the general performance of the ink. The colour ranges from a blue-black to an almost black. 19. Does anyone have any insight into how much an 888 edition of the Montblanc Patron of Art Karl de Grosse, Charlemagne fountain pen would be worth on the secondary market? I see one being offered on Ebay for about $10k, but no results there or on LiveAuctioneers, Invaluable, etc. It is lightly used but with no apparent flaws, and I do have the paperwork and boxes. Thanks in advance!
  20. Thanks in advance for any help! I am hopeful that someone can identify this Montblanc fountain pen. Barrel & Cap are both sterling silver (hallmarked) in a twisted decagonal form with gold plated lattice bands and black resin caps Gold plated clip is set with a cabochon gem, maybe a Ruby? Nib is bi-tone but not marked for quality of gold, and has a compass/cruciform with letters RIKS or KRIS some other combo of those letters Cap has etched numbers 0727 over 4810 Underside of the clip reads "GERMANY" and "PIX" Cap on, measures about 5.5"
  21. Hi everyone, (By the way, I'm fairly new to pen collecting, so I apologize if I say something stupid). My brother wants to buy me a special pen. After a lot of consideration and procrastination, (I think) I have decided on the Montblanc Writers Edition Shakespeare pen. It's a beautiful pen, and given that it commemorates Shakespeare, I don't think it will ever go out of style (of course, it's a gift from my brother, not an investment -- I'm not really expecting to part with it in my lifetime). When I was first looking, I could buy the fountain pen (Fine nib) for around $950 (USD) from the store. Now, I'm led to believe that they are unavailable in stores, and the prices on Amazon appear astronomical (hundreds of dollars more). Did the price really just go up that much? Am I looking in the right place? Is there any chance I could buy it from the store still? If it's really impossible to buy the Shakespeare, I was thinking about the Beatles pen, which appears to still be available in Montblanc stores. Is it available only because it's not popular? Is there something wrong with it? Thank you!
  22. Montblanc regularly intoduces new and pricey LE/SE inks. I'd like to try more of them but because of high cost of a bottle, it's not possible. As I like grey inks, I decided to try this one. Bottle 50 ml glass bottle that comes in a stylish packaging. It looks nice on the shelf. It's solid and ergonomic. Ink splash As you'll see in a second, it's not most saturated grey ink on the market. It leans toward puple just a little bit, but has a distinct silver tone to it. I have to say I enjoy the hue, although in drier nibs the line will lack strength. The flow and behavious are decent. Montblanc Dilemma

Hello! I found on a local website a Montblanc for sale. It's a special edition from 2016 the Miles Davis LE1926, that retails for 3000$, seling for 200$. But unfortunately is has a slightly bent nib and no box or papers. The rest of the pen seems in good condition, with no dents or even scratches. I have no ideea if the piston is in good condition because the seller is completely ignorant of fountain pens, but he sais the knob turns very smoothly. I'm thempted to buy it but I'm not too fond of buying pens that need repairing, to invest even more in them Should I buy it? What do you think? Is this a reasonable price? Whould I be able to sell it for the same price if I decide I don't really want to repair it?
