  1. My boyfriend received this Montblanc pen as a graduation gift a few years back. He hasn't used it so we are thinking about selling it. Can anyone assist in identifying the model? Thanks in advance!
  2. I have a Montblanc Boheme fountain pen I've decided to sell, but I don't see many of these for sale. It's not the retractable variety, but rather the type with the gemstone in the clip (in this case, an elegant black gemstone). It's in great shape, the nib having been perfected by nib guru Mike Masuyama so that it writes wetly in a medium-broad line. I wonder if my fellow FPNers might advise me as to the value of this. I don't want to overprice or underprice it. Thanks! GNL

    Pelikan Vs. [The World]

I learnt about Pelikan through a blog post titled "A Lawyer and his Pen", in which a monsieur avocat understood that Mont Blanc does not offer the same quality of service as TWSBI. Someone replied to his post and recommended a Pelikan. I thus researched this company and thereupon tried a few pens at my local store. Although I didn't spend much time on the pens, I felt little difference between a M200/600 and Pilot (forgot the model) or Lamy 2000 -- all using the same ink. The store owner told me with a smile that Pelikan is a writer's pen, and he has many customers who write for a living, and actually use a Pelikan to make a living. (The only reason I didn't buy a Pelikan is due to its price in Canada. I've settled on a TWSBI and am waiting for its delivery.) So although this topic has been discussed to death, for people who have owned a few other brands, how does Pelikan compare service/durability wise to others?

Is This Mont Blanc Pen Real, Please?

Hi. I am new to collecting Mont Blanc pens. Can anyone please tell me if this is real? I found it very unusual that it came in clear plastic case! ??? ANY info on this pen would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks! Loretta
  5. I’ve had these photos on my phone for almost 2 weeks now and was excited to finally upload them last night, but couldn't get them on the site . After some experimenting, I'm happy it just worked with photobucket, so here it goes!

I wanted to do this comparison for two reasons. First, because green olives are a big guilty pleasure of mine (I ate around 20-30 of them while writing this review last night ) and second, (and more importantly) I read in a couple threads that people were asking how the Montblanc Daniel Defoe Palm Green ink compared to other "olive-ish" greens. So, I thought I would add the samples I have to the wonderful comparisons that amberleadavis and dcroe05 already did! The inks tested are: Diamine Salamander, Stipula Verde Mushiato, Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu, Montblanc Daniel Defoe Palm Green, Rohrer and Klingner Alt-Goldgrun, and J. Herbin Vert Olive.

The samples were done on Rhodia using a 1950s 146 and a Pilot Custom 74 B nib ground down to a smooth stub by Mike Masuyama.

Herbin Vert Olive Salamander is probably my favorite shade of “olive” in this group, because its color is difficult to pin down. It’s not a green, brown or grey (and maybe not even an olive) but all three combined and the mix makes for a unique shade that is great for someone looking for a more exciting alternative to black that could be used in an office environment. My biggest complaint with this ink is that I wish that the flow and smoothness were both stronger. (But, I should note that I like very wet and smooth inks, so please do not let that discourage you from trying it.) On a side note, if you’ve tried a smooth wet ink that is very close in color to Salamander please let me know!

The Defoe ended up being my second favorite shade of olive from the bunch (another amazing Limited Edition color from MB!), but I have yet to pick up a bottle. I am on the fence about whether I will get one or not, because, although, I love its color, as with most of my MB inks I wish it felt a little smoother under a flexi nib and given the heavier pressure I use while writing. (Though it felt smoother to me than Salamander.)
Tokiwa-Matsu is by far the most interesting ink of the ones compared because of its spectacular reddish sheen. It's not my favorite shade of "olive", but it is my favorite ink to use out of the 6. I highly recommend it if you are looking for an ink with that special factor that makes you do a double-take every time you use it. Alt-Goldgrun is the closest in color to the Defoe. I loved the shade and shading when I first got a bottle, but I find myself using it less and less. After testing the Defoe, I much prefer it for note-taking since it is less yellow and a little darker.

Verde Mushiato is an ink that I’m on the fence about, because I wish that, in my pens, it looked closer to some of the writing samples I’ve seen where it has more green mixed into the brown. Don’t get me wrong; the ink is a beautiful color, but I just don’t enjoy using it for a full page of notes, so my bottle doesn’t get much use. Performance wise, the ink has a different but pleasant, slightly powdery-soft feel under the nib which makes for a pretty smooth writing experience.

Vert Olive is another nice shade but too light for me to use as a daily ink. Which is your favorite of the six?

    "cheap" Mb? Not Long Left

If I had some money I might consider this - some of the photos are terrible, and the description is severely lacking, but it looks genuine and if so, is seemingly a very good price. Thought i'd flag it up for others to peruse :-) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-Authentic-MontBlanc-gold-fointain-pen-/181593643205?pt=UK_Home_Garden_PensPencils_WritingEquipment_SM&hash=item2a47d318c5

    Mb Thomas Mann Ballpoint Question

I just became a member of this Forum today. I have a Thomas Mann Ballpoint that had a loose clip. I unscrewed the top, tightened the clip and the whole pen came apart. Now I cannot get the body back together. Went to MB @ Orlando today - no help - they want to send it to Texas.....nothing is broken. I wound up buying the JFK Ballpoint so $857.33 later - my Thomas Mann is still out of commission.....Thanks, Jack

    Broken Mont Blanc Cap

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I recently came across an old Mont Blanc my father had and when I tried to take the cap off, the screw part broke off. By screw part I mean the nib section that you screw on and off the body when changing cartridges or ink via a converter. I took some pics and was wondering if anyone here could tell me if it can be repaired or if I've permanently damaged the pen.. Thanks!

    Vintage Mont Blanc 146

Hi, I have a Mont Blanc 146, which I believe to be an old one. I have attached photos, as I don't really understand The topic of Mont Blanc pens I would greatly appreciate any guide as to the age of the pen as well as its potential value. The uppermost section is stamped/engraved 146 and op-. The pens mechanism is some sort of vacuum/ screw type. Thanks in advance, Nikita (P.s sorry, my iPad only let me post 1 image, please post if more are needed.)

    Quing Dynasty - Mont Blanc

I have been using my pens - mostly Mont Blanc - every day now for 25 years. A few years ago I acquired a jade toped Quing Dynasty medium nib'd pen by accident but can never bring myself to dip it or use it and am thinking of selling it to someone who will actually use it. I have never actually seen anyone sell one on ebay or anywhere else and wandered whether any of you avid pen lovers might have a realistic idea of what these pens are realistically worth in the market? What can I expect this to be worth if I decide to sell? I must assume that there is a market fort his type of limited edition pen out there?

    Mont Blanc Identifiers.

Hello. I need a little info please. I'm selling a set of 3 Mont Blancs on Craigslist, soon to be on FPN. But, I'm trying to answer some questions from a potential buyer. I believe reading at one point MB quit adding serial numbers to some of the pen series? I have the burgundy set of the Meisterstuck. Is this the correct name for them? I purchase & was gifted w/ them around 1992 or so. I'm quoting his spellings of the questions: "do the serial numbers and Germany on the clip rings"?, do they have the words PIX on the underside of the clips"?, do they come with the original box, service guide and engraving vouchers"? Attached is the ad from Craigslist & a couple of pics of the pens if this will help. I just a need a bit of help in order to give him accurate info. I do thank you for your help & of course I'll do more in-depth research myself. Just have never known of some of this info before... Best, LeRoy

Mb Noblesse Oblige: Cap Not Closing

Hello. We have recently inherited a couple of Mont Blanc pens, one of which is a Nobless Oblige. It was in a filthy state, but I've cleaned it up and it now writes beautifully. But... The cap does not close. I've looked down the inside of the cap, and there doesn't seem to be anything out of place or jammed in there. I suppose it's possible that the Nobless Oblige cap is not original to the pen and that the barrel and nib are another model. In fact, if I were seeing this 'in the wild' that would be my assumption, as the gold rim at the back of the section seems to be slightly too wide. But knowing the former owner, I think that is unlikely. So I'm stumped. Any ideas? I'm including some pictures below. The first is a close-up of the 'most closed' position - note the gap. The final picture shows the pen as a whole. The top of the cap has a slightly rounded MB white star; the bottom of the pen is flat black. Sorry, no photos of the inside of the cap - I don't have the equipment for a picture like that. Thanks in advance for your help.
  13. I'm going to see a MB -that I think is a 145- that being sold for close to $200. I've been trying to compare the image provided by the seller with others than I"ve seen on several websites including this, but they're few and far between. I notice on the photo that the tines are far wider than the plastic feeder on the image but all pictures that I've seen of the 146 and 149 undersides align perfectly. Any idea as to why is this? Could this be a fake pen? The owner is offering the pen with its original box, what should I look for in the box for an original item? What kind of papers do I expect to find? This will be my first MB if I decide to buy. http://img.segundamano.mx/images/07/0707278620.jpg

    Hello From Phoenix Az

I am new to the network and new to fountain pens. I have inherited a large collection of beautiful fountain pens and am interested in selling a number of them. I am not interested in receiving retail for them and am only interested in passing them on to another collector or someone passionate about pens. I am also interested in them and find them very intriguing. Any advice, help, or words of wisdom are graciously accepted. I look forward to being a member and learning more about the pieces I have. Thank you, Winston
  15. Hello there I just acquired my first Montblanc fountain pen, but it's very old and has a lot of problems. There is no text on it - only "MONT BLANC" written on the cap and the clip, so I've had troubles identifying it myself. If anyone has an idea what pen this might be, please tell me. The nib says: WARRANTED 14 CT CSMI IRIDIUM First of all, I haven't been able to fill it. The top has an etched line which I suspected screwed of to reveal a button, but with a closer inspections, I've concluded it's not a seperate part. I'm now pretty sure that it screws at the section, but I've tried everything, and it's just stuck. Can anyone confirm this? I've tried to dip it ink and write with a little bit anyways. The nib is in a really bad shape, and is the most scratchy I've ever tried. It's placed asymmetrically on the feed, so I'm guessing the nib can be changed? What standard would that be? Look at the photos, and I would be glad to get some answers to my questions.
  16. I just joined and I know I'm wayyyyy off topic but I just got a brand new Fyodor Dostoevsky fountain pen by Mont Blanc! The Dostoevsky is my favorite out of all my MBs (I collect them), and some bonehead sat on mine and broke it in two places. I have a friend with a pen store and he gave me a brand new fountain pen, Dostoevsky of course, for only $430.00!!!!!!! He even threw in some purple ink. It IS my birthday, after all. : ) Sorry for jumping in like this but I'm so excited I couldn't help myself. Now if I could only find my way back to that section entitled " Dumas or Dostoevsky " because I feel sure I can be of help in that area. : )
  17. we are couple, and we are thinking about visiting Chamonix on June 3-7. I was hiking before , but its the first time for my husband, and i'm looking for some "friendly" one day hiking routes? (not in the snow, but in the valley) is there any recommendations for us for this time of the year ? what huts are opened during next week? is there any other activity we can do in Chamonix during this days? thank you all

  19. I have 2 149's with M nibs and really keen to try F or EF nibs, wondered if anyone had experience of nib exchange in Australia or New Zealand?

    Thinking Of Buying Mb 146

I am thinking about a MB 146 in Platinum Trim in Medium Nib. Is this a great pen? Will the Platinum Trim detract from the value in the future vs. the gold standard trim?

    My Father's Mont Blanc

My father recently gave me his Mont Blanc, which is on the order of 20 years old. The band says "Meisterstuck" but it's not the fat one that opens with a wrench; it's the skinny one where everything appears to be friction-fit. It comes with a threaded piston converter that screws in place. He left it sitting, filled, for around 5 years before he gave it to me. I soaked the section/nib for days, periodically flushing with a syringe jabbed into the back of an empty cartridge, and also using the converter to suck water through it the other way. A lot of solid black chunks came out, but I can't get it completely clean. It writes, but it's not breathing correctly; the flow stops after a few minutes. The question is, should I take it to the repair place in Boston and let the pros have a go? With cheaper pens, I don't hesitate to tear into them and even modify them. After all, I used to build motorcycles, how complicated can a fountain pen possibly be? But with a pen this expensive, I hesitate. Is there any weirdness I should know about the way these are put together? I know from my girlfriend's BMW that Germans like to do things their own way, which is often different from everybody else's way. For instance, is the feed glued in or something? And if I *DO* let the pros handle it, since I can't take it apart myself, does that mean I need an ultrasonic cleaner like the kind they sell for Rapidograph pens? (As an ex motorcycle guy, I'm naturally leery of any mechanical device I can't take apart) TIA for advice, -Jonny
  22. I recently acquired this pen on ebay and can't identify what model it is and also question if it is authentic. It is very tiny, 4.47" long and the barrel diameter is .375". The clip ring has a serial no EV1027726 This is the wording from the listing: 100% authentic Montblanc 75th Anniversary fountain pen 14 kt nib, diamond in the 75 years of passion(in the o). Approx 4 3/8" L. Needs refill of ink. Pen is in great condition. No papers or box. A little bit of an ink stain on nib, I am sure this will come off gold. any help would be appreciated, I am new to collecting and have jumped in with both feet, and have purchased a couple of known fake MB pens to help me to identify the quality difference, its baffling how these impostors can get away with these copies.
  23. Pictures: http://imgur.com/a/TG23L Hey everyone, just got this Monte Rosa from a online-auction house, not sure if its a real MB-MR. The case is that when I write for example, 200 words or so the won't write as well at the end, the ink don't flow until I screw the piston a bit, this is my first pistonfiller so I am not sure if I should turn it everytime to get out some ink every 200 words or its just going to flow automatic. The second picture you can see that the last two straight lines is the last one until the pen stopped totally working, until i twist it again. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks!
  24. Hi everybody This Mont Blanc pen was given to me in 1985 and after looking around online I am still not sure of the model, or how much it is worth. I have attached some pictures of the pen and would be grateful if you could take a look and help identify this for me. Thanks!
  25. I bought a vintage Mont Blanc 320, which I quite enjoyed, the nib had a bit of spring to it, and it flowed perfectly, impossible to get it to dry up. I sadly had to return it though as it leaked, - seemingly through the pen cap springs.. perhaps the ink window? or maybe even through the body somehow.., I'd be curious about getting another, a couple questions though for any expects: 1. Did this pen ever come with a converter? If so, what one would fit and be proper for the pen? The one I got didn't have an original converter (if there even was one that came with it), I had tried both an official modern Mont Blanc converter and another one, though I think both let ink into the body. I just dont want to be limited to cartridges of course. 2. Any one with experience of this pen find similar ink leaking issues? 3. Is there another less expensive Mont Blanc vintage pen that might be recommended instead, I NEED flex and line variation, and I really enjoyed the smaller size and weight of this 320. Thanks!
