No Affiliates here, just a happy customer of two handmade customised leather journal covers. The first one is made for Moleskine Large size. Used by rollerball pens and Blackwing pencils for jotting down ideas and quotes. The second one is made for Leuchtturm A5 size. Used by fountain pen with any colour and nib sizes as I please as a journal/diary. Although there is a little bit show through, no feathering or bleed through of any kind. The covers are made by sturdy leather that have been tanned to tobacco brown colour. Classic, vintage yet stylish. Front covers have been embossed with my initials. Price, not expensive and duration of delivery is in a timely manner. Made by artisan 3wunder from Austria. I am now thinking of having a pen case to come with these lovely and beautiful journals.

I decided to buy an Oberon Design Journal cover, and I have to say that it looks awesome! much better than in the pictures. It looks a lot more sturdy than I was expecting too. Just wanted to put this out there.

Intro: Last year, since the timing was right with and order from Goulet Pens, I tried a Rhodia Weekly planner with a grid. Up until then, I was using Moleskines that I bought from the local bookstore. I liked Rhodia pads, and I really liked the grid layout and hard-backed planner. I was very happy with my purchase. Unfortunately, I forgot to use my planner to order the next year's planner, and January arrived without a new agenda. So Rhodia: Nice feel, good build, excellent, fountain pen-friendly paper. Since January showed up and I was unprepared, I went down to the bookstore and bought a Moleskine planner. For quick notes, it hadn't bothered me yet. Now, I spend my weeknights away from my pens and other paraphernalia, only getting home on the weekends. I've started an online course: History of Renaissance Italian Architecture. I sat down to my first video lecture and realized that I had no notepaper on me. None whatsoever. I grabbed my Moleskine, and tried to use it to take notes. That's when I found how bad the bleeding was. The showthrough. My school has cheap scribblers, definitely nothing FP friendly. Moleskine: Lousy paper, softcover and shape led to discomfort when writing. I went into an art supply store this weekend, and got a Leuchtterm 1917 pad. Tonight I recopied out my notes with a variety of different pens and inks, and am very satisfied with it. Although I don't think the quality of the paper is as good as the Rhodia, for note-taking and lecture notes it is far easier and better than the Moleskine. The price is much better too: I got the Leuchtterm for $15 on sale, while the Moleksine set me back around $20. Next year I will remember to buy a Rhodia planner, but this Leuchtterm will do just fine right now. The paper quality is much better. Although you can see that there is writing on either side, you can still read quite legibly, unlike the Moleskine. The inks work much better as well, only the BSB has feathered (which, honestly, is pretty common anyways). I've heard that the Leuchtterm can be inconsistent with the paper quality, but if this is the lower end, I'm pretty satisfied with it. Inks: Organics Studio Mendel Green, J. My EDC is a Parker 51 Aero, reporters style notebook, and a journal. I used to carry all the items separately but always wished I could consolidate. I made this for myself over the last week after seeing (lusting after) a pen case journal combo but not liking their choice of materials. If there is a desire for it I can make more of these to order. I used full grain vegetable tanned leather and hand stitched it using waxed poly thread. I will most likely only do plain and natural (unfinished) if there is interest as that is the aesthetic of the items I typically make as an artist regardless of medium. I oil the cover with neatsfoot, sun tan the leather slightly, and hand burnish the edges after stitching. The rest of the details are left to the user. With proper oiling and commonsense leather care the item will age beautifully. The item was a very personal project so I haven't yet decided on a price but it will be reasonable. I have moleskine notebooks in the pictures but rhodia A6 webbies should fit. I won't make another for at least a month or two while I test the durability of the one I just made. I can also upload the template I created for this project if any DIY'ers are interested in taking on the challenge. EDIT: As promised... here is the template! FYI The colors are a little wacky but I used a BW laser printer so all I needed was contrast.

Greetings fellow FPN'ers! It is just over a year (Sept 2012) since I posted a couple of pictures of my little one using a fountain pen for the first time. Back then it was a Jinhao 159 and due to the less than delicate touch of a child, has actually bedded in and writes really nice now! Since then, we have undertaken an exercise where every weekend, she is allowed to write in "Dad's Journal" and has her own page to herself to write about anything she wants. Tonight, being wet and windy and just not fit to take a dog outside in the bad weather, we decided to have a little indoors time and try a different pen, a simple Rotring Art pen with a 1.5 italic nib. We had a little practice with it to get used to the different feel that an italic nib has, but after ten minutes, she had it nailed. Out with the Journal and play-time again. In the spirit of the "reviews" pages: Pen: Rotring Art Pen 1.5 Italic. Ink: Rotring Art Pen Black Ink. Paper: Moleskine. Writers Age: 7. Fun Factor: 10/10 Had it not been for bedtime coming around so quickly, we would have actually had a go at doing an ink or pen review, although I might wait until her hand is a tad lighter before I allow her loose on my prize Pelikan M1000... I do however have a number of Lamy Safari's in the wings :-) I have now lost my Rotring....... Dave.

As my usual P1JP diary from Letts is no longer made, I am thinking of using a pocket-size Moleskine. However, I would like to know if the paper in these is suitable for average fountain-pen ink. In my diaries, I use Parker or Waterman black and blue-black most of the time, in a 45-year-old Parker 45 with fine italic nib. This combination has been fine on Letts paper, so I am hopeful it would work on Moleskine paper as well. Any advice appreciated, thank-you.

Good evening, strangers! While walking through one of my relatively local bookshops today in search of a new notebook (something other than Paperblanks, although I love them, I believe I need something to quell the addiction), I happened to stumble across some small teNeues CoolNotes on sale. My first question is rather simple: How are these compared to e.g. Moleskine in terms of quality, paper and FP friendliness? I must admit I mistook some of them for Moleskines at first. And second, are they worth stocking up on? Their size seems about right for my use and the prices (as I said, on sale) are ridiculously low. I also find myself drawn to their GreenLine journals. The CoolNotes are wrapped in plastic though, so I can't get a good look at the paper beforehand. Chances are I’ll get one anyway, but I wanted to know if any of you had some experience to share first. If this has been asked before or if it's posted in the wrong place, please forgive me.

Hey FPN'ers, I made this case last night. It is a A5 sized case that is capable of holding up to 3 different journals, I currently have two Rhodia and a slim Leuchtturm, by holding them in place with a strip of material that you adjust with a cord lock. I also used magnets to close the front so you dont' have to worry about elastics going or slowly pulling out of the material. I am really happy with how it turned out and I think I might start selling them on my Etsy. I would love to have everyone's feedback about what you think and if you would be interested in seeing it in a A6 or A4 size. Cheers, Phil

Hi, everyone! I am new to both - fountain pens and this forum. Sorry, if this has already been discussed, but I haven't found it on the forum. I recently bought my first fountain pen - a Montblanc Jonathan Swift with medium nib with Montblanc toffee brown ink. I was looking for a decent notebook which would be used both - for office notes and my personal ones. Moleskine seemed to be the perfect choice due to it's design and creamy paper colour. It turned out to be a disaster as I can use only one side of the notebook due to severe bleed-through of the ink. I would rather change the notebook, then the pen . Do all monblanc inks have the same bleedthrough qualities or should I try another ink, maybe a non-montblanc one? thank you in advance! Dennis
