  1. Hello, I'm looking to refill a Pilot V Board Master dry erase marker with blue or black ink. By construction this pen can be refilled as its end is easily unscrewed to a small plastic cartridge. The thing is I don't know which ink to use as it needs to be : 1/ compatible with the felt tipe 2/ compatible with the board to be dry erasable. Anyone has ever tried that with success ? or with bad luck ? Any tips or ideas ? All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a nice week-end.
  2. Hello all, I'll start this post - or thought excersize - with a question: - Do you feel that current fountain pen industry is slowly moving toward re-introduction of proper flexible nibs? It occurred to me, while watching fp reviews online, reading etc - that in each one of them there is at least one segment dedicated to "line variation" (ex. Stephen Brown, Matt ...etc) or "Flexibility". Also, a lot of excitement is raised around any pen/nib claimed to have "that vintage flex feel". As my comment on one Aurora 88 review by sbrebrown on YouTube states: "Maybe I am an idealist with unrealistically positive (maybe hopeful) expectations of future days, maybe I'm noticing some "shifts" or "ripples" in fountain pen manufacturing trends or maybe I'm just imagining and lying to myself - but... it seems to me that more (and more) flexible nibs are on offer. Whether they are quasi-flexible, sort-of-flexible, vintage-wannabe-flexible, or really flexible with "modern" or "vintage" feel - there's new Wahl Eversharp, Franklin Cristophs, Pilot, Platinum, even this Aurora 88... perhaps I can include Romillo (?) and Visconti... maybe even modern M1000 by Pelikan (?? it is soft, F or EF feel flexy)... in any case, it seems like industry is (very) slowly moving in the right direction. Fountain pen sales are up year-on-year, and with more fp users - demand for semi-flex or flex nibs is growing. Aurora is maybe playing on that card, testing the market - whatever they are trying to do - they are doing us (fountain pen users) a favor. And your (Stephen) reviews, with few others here on YouTube or there on the web - are helping this as well. Having that "what about line variation" question drives some people to think about that, want to have that... One of these days (my dream says) I will click on Pelikan's web page and find Pelikan M805 special edition... flexible or Montblanc... Parker... Lamy )))) " What are you thoughts on this? Are there any insider-information or rumors that more flexible nibs are coming? Or I'm not seeing it right.
  3. Oh the woes of fountain pen economics! It really is only the larger companies that have the real ability to produce a cheap fountain pen that is a profit maker rather than a loss leader. However, I do believe that in the last five or so years there has been quite a dramatic shift in how companies, both large and small, have begun to market their wares. Perhaps I am overstating it or perhaps it is just as I age I still have a vague memory of things like books only costing 25p. Such things undoubtedly skew our perspectives. It does seem to me though, that good old fashioned capitalist greed under the veil of 'aiming for the luxury market' might begin to have (if it's not already having) a detrimental and negative impact on the future of the fountain pen. It's a niche market as it is, but pushing it into the luxury only arena would seem to me to be a big mistake. I've seen a number of fountain pen makers, some large and some small, all of whom have appeared to make a reasonably tidy profit, push their products into the higher and higher price brackets while not really changing the product itself. I've seen some of them start to struggle almost as soon as they make their initial strides down this path. Some of them have now gone completely. The problem is that when you start down that road you can't roll it back if you realise it isn't washing with your customer base. You can't suddenly turn around a year later and say, 'Oooops, sorry we made an error. here is the same old pen at the old, usual, cheap/reasonable price.' Despite this, there does seem to be a notion that 'luxury' is the way to go. Looking at the current market big players (not the small ones, although some undoubtedly are in the same position), I think I can see two major pen manufacturers that are at the edge of the abyss. It would be sad to see them go over, but I can't see how they will manage to correct the error in light of the path they are now well down the road on. Somebody please tell me, it's just my age?!
  4. "According to Euromonitor, North America was the one zone in which fountain pen sales shrank in 2016, down 3.5 percent year-over-year." https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-02/fountain-pen-sales-are-surging-despite-flat-luxury-global-sales

    The Best Oblique Pen Holders?

Hey guys! After seeing just how extreme nib sizes can be, I was curious if there was a "silver bullet" of oblique pen holders. In other words, is there any oblique pen holder out there that will fit most nibs? Thanks!
  6. I'm new to fountain pen, and I was surprised that there wasn't more retractables in the low end price range. The posts in that thread helped me understand that the R&D for it is prohibitive. But it also made me realize that I'm on unfamiliar ground, so I'm going to ask about the lay of the land. There seems to be quite a few pen makers, but what's the market share between them look like?
