  1. Hello all. I just had the pleasure of visiting for the first time my local Fountain Pen Shop in Monrovia, CA, the only brick and mortar fountain pen shop in all of Los Angeles from what I can tell. It was a wonderful experience. I picked up a Conklin Mark Twain Crescent Filler--Demonstrator model. Really happy with my purchase however after getting home, I noticed a potential issue. Since it's the weekend, can't reach the shop owner. The instruction insert states after filling the pen, return the locking ring to closed position by turning 180 degrees so that the locking ring opening is on the opposite side of the crescent. However, I am unable to turn it fully to 180 degrees. It gets stuck at maybe 120 degrees as the the ring thickness is non uniform and runs into the crescent beyond 120 degree turn preventing further turn. The problem is the ring is a bit loose and can't reliably lock into place, so my concern is the potential for leaking should i accidentally depress the crescent button. This is my first crescent filler, so I have no prior experience.
  2. My daughter just inherited her father's fountain pen collection. Among these wonderful pens was a Conklin Mark Twain Crescent Filler without a locking ring under the Crescent. I know that some of the locking rings were made of hard rubber -- were they subject to breaking? Is there any value to such a pen? Thanks to all. So happy we found this site.

  4. I may have reviewed this ink before, but this one is more extensive and on some different papers. For some reason the scan came out sideways. The color is probably more accurate than the next image which is just an iPhone picture. The text reads: "This is still one of my favorite inks. A soft lovely purple. O like the color so much that when Anderson Pens had a special sale of OS inks, I got an 8 oz container. Ink for Life. But it is worth it. The vast majority of OS inks I've used have been totally well-behaved. My Menlo in Amber Tortoise is somewhat translucent and this ink doesn't stain. And it has no problems startiung up from a pause in writing. I don't believe this ink is being brought back in the limited release of OS. Maybe some would call this blue-violet." As seen in this last pic it is fairly water resistant if you quickly blot up with a paper towel.
  5. I noticed that the Conklin nib is similar in size to the Noodler's size 6 nibs and decided to attempt fitting my (newly acquired) 2009 Conklin Crescent with a Noodler's flex nib. Surprisingly, the Conklin's feed supplied the flex nib with plenty of ink to handle all kinds of flexy writing. The repair question I have concerns its ink sac. I unscrewed the section from the barrel and the crescent bar caught hold of the sac and tore it off the sac nipple. I attempted resaccing the pen with the same sac several times over only to have the crescent bar take hold of the sac when screwing the section into the barrel. Does anyone here have experience with resaccing these new Conklin Crescents?
  6. There's been a bit of a dearth of Organics Studio reviews on this site yet. Especially for the newer colors that I was particularly interested in. Given that, I ordered a bunch of ink samples last month. Well, this month Tyler's been holding a contest for reviews. So, you know, extra incentive to get these up without lollygagging too much. This was one of the inks I was most excited to try out first. Especially since even those sites that sell it haven't all gotten sample images up. Overall impressions: It's a dark blue, but it's got more than traces of purple. Sort of a purple-black range I suppose. It does tend to get just a little more blue when it dries, sort of like PR Tanzanite. Great shading. Love the color. Good smooth flow. It bleeds a good deal in water but it's got enough water resistence to see where your pen has been. *Forgive the clumsy splatters from my other ink testing I'm getting a bottle!
