  2. I just got a Visconti Wall Street LE. Beautiful pen overall, but the bands of the celluloid are highly irregular. Most are approximately horizontal, but some go off in entirely different directions. This photo shows one of these warped parts. Is this common, or have I been sold a defective pen? I am certainly surprised that a limited-edition pen would be sent to market with this sort of workmanship, but I can't say that I know much about the manufacture of celluloid barrels.

    Lamy Safari Dark Lilac

I have been shopping online for a Dark Lilac safari. There are several ebay sellers who are located in Hong Kong or china who have them listed for around $21-$22 with free shipping. I'm just wondering whether anyone knows if these are legitimate? It seems like a pretty low price for a limited edition pen that is no longer available. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get one at that price, but I don't want to spend even that much for a fake. Thanks for any information you might have.
  4. Ink View: Garden District Azalea – A homage to the historic neighborhood of New Orleans Garden District Azalea (GDA) is the last installation of PP’s NOLA inspired limited edition inks. An ink evoking the colors of Azalea, commonly found on the Garden District, a Victorian style neighborhood in New Orleans and the subject of this view. Once again a big thanks to Papier Plume for sending me this sample, this is a nice pink, and despite not being a pink fan, it has enough of the red (and I like reds), that is legible and pleasant to use in my personal view. But I’m getting ahead, lets look at this ink and its name more in detail So what is this ink about? ----- The Garden District and the Azalea The Garden District(GD) is one of those neighborhoods in New Orleans that you would want to walk around, the old style Victorian homes, the well-kept garden and house are an appeal to both tourists and locals, and I know I sound like a travel agent now, but look at this picture!. Taken from : https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjnyOLg55HPAhUM0GMKHb_XB_EQjB0IBg&url=https%3A%2F%2Frdvernon.wordpress.com%2Fcategory%2Fnew-orleans-garden-district%2F&psig=AFQjCNFhjgBIOoO7oGQn-RMVpxeF3ek54A&ust=1474043941157159 And if the houses don’t attract you there is also the lower garden district where you can get original art, antiques, vintage clothing, and jewelry But GD was not originally part of New Orleans; in fact, it was part of the city of Lafayette until 1852 when it was incorporated to New Orleans. A neighborhood meant for wealthy Americans who didn’t want to mingle with the creole population that lived in the French quarter… ah history. Regardless the homes were built using Victorian and Greek revival style architecture, where the large houses in constant renovations and upgrades allowed the owners to host large parties and celebrations, especially during local festivities. The houses’ generous lots allowed the cultivation of the gardens, for which the area is named after, and both the gardens could compete to see which one stands out the most, but the fact is that both are now staples of the area. Its residents are known for being proud of their homes and maintaining them in pristine shape (they are also 4th/5th generation New Orleanians ) The Azalea - a spring showoff! . I’m way over my head when it comes to gardening, there has not been a single plant that has survived under my care, and the ones I have alive are all because of my SO, so I’ll probably trample on this part and deepest apologies to those knowledgeable with the art of gardening. Azaleas are a flower shrub, blooms on the spring and the flowers last several weeks, they are tolerant to shade and they prefer living near trees (Wikipedia). And that is all good, but what I found interesting (and NOT in wikipedia) is that the azaleas came to america from Orient two centuries ago, they can be found in seasons other than spring, they are known to bloom around March, that there are at least 5 types of azaleas in new Orleans and that there was a tour for the flower aficionado named after the city of Lafayette called Lafayette Azalea Trail (once lost, but it has now been resuscitated and modernized- see pic) And did you knew they were toxic? In large amounts they can be dangerous, I may add, but in essence they are! Now, I could not get the names of all the types of azaleas found in the New Orleans area, but I’m pretty sure that if you walk around the gardens, and you are knowledgeable enough, you would be able to spot them. I'm also positive that they will have multiples shades, but trying to be as fair as possible my take on the azalea pink will be: "middle of the road" i.e ‘George Lindley taber’ southern indica hybrid. - see bellow ‘George Lindley taber’ southern indica hybrid. ------- The Garden District Azalea (The ink view) As noted this is the last of release in the city of New Orleans line, following the previous inks of this line: Street Car Green , Calle Real, Sazerac and Mardi Gras Indians Purple. A pink ink that is pleasant to read, and an ink that in wet nibs shows reddish tones and a good amount of shading Here is how the production bottles looks like And here is the Swab From a first glance, this ink has high shading properties, not too saturated and as all PP’s inks some wet/watery nature. Let’s look at this more in depth So how I looked at this view? Pens: I used three pens this time One EF (Twsbi ECO), One Medium ( MB 146) and One Broad (FC model 1901 BS) Paper: Tomoe River, Rhodia, Clairefountaine Thriomphe (CF), traditional copy paper , laid paper and Vellum Tests: Flow, saturation, shading, sheen, bleed-through, see-through/show-through, feathering and pooling. With other tests such as water, bleach and alcohol and dry times. Sometimes it will be a yes/no answer, sometimes 1-5 (1 being poor, 5 being excellent) Crossover Card My way to see all the papers and how the ink behaves across. You can see that each column is representative of the paper used. Thoughts on the ink-paper behavior Flow: Flow is good, very fluid, consistent across all papers and pens usedSaturation: Medium, it does allow more shading having a mid-range saturation IMOSheen: None, Zip, Nada. – In general I have not found one PP ink with sheen propertiesShade: There is lots of shading on this one . Again you would need a wet nib regardless of the width to really experience it. On dryer nibs it will just be a pale pink – not too pale but pale ink. Bleed-through: Only bleed I saw was on copy paper , using a medium wet nib.Show-through: There is some slight, very slight on most papers, I’ve circled the ones where this happened, more intense on the vellum, but that is expected. You would be able to write on both sides on most quality papers .Feathering: No visible feathering on the papers I tried it withPooling: (This is not the shading but more on the pooling on the edges of the letters, I enjoy when the inks provide this). Only on the tomoe river paperWater Resistance: The tests shown on the card were done using an eyedropper, leaving it a few seconds then using a tissue paper to retrieve the excess. But offline I did a more smear/spread test. Tests show that the ink has no water proofAlcohol Resistance: Very consistent across. You would be able to recover from this one – almost no effect. Where it shows that the ink has gone from the comparison is where the bleach spread to.Bleach Resistance: None, Zip , nada. Dry Times: This is a somehow wet ink when it goes on paper, and takes time to dry between 10-20 seconds. On copy paper it is almost immediate, same as my previous view I believe is because the ink is watery that goes through quickly between the fibers One thing I had mentioned before it is how easy is to clean any of PP’s inks from the pens. I would attribute this to the fact that they are not meant to be waterproof, as well as that they are not viscose and not too saturated. Ink Comparison From the top and then left to right: Ink NameMakerOverall NotesMashmallow InkDe AtramentisLight-neon pink, good if you want to consider highlighting - has sheen behaves wellGarden District AzaleaPapier PlumeInk of this view Tourmaline - Ink of the YearPelikanPart of the Edelstein line - limited ink of the year 2012- more darker reddish tones hint of orange good shadingBordeauxViscontiThe darker of the bunch, after that you are entering the bordeaux range and moving away from the pink, good shading, good ink overall And here is a (quick) sketch, I went first for the flower then for the houses I'm not as happy with this sketch as I was with the other, I may have to work on it later on Here is some Cursive and Block writing for reference. Opinion This is a pink that at first sight might look light and on fine/EF nibs it could be, but dries a little darker and on wet nibs will show great amounts of shading and more reddish tones. It is pleasant to read, and the flow is not too bad. You may find that there is more feeling of your nib hitting the paper and that is because of how watery the inks generally are - this is not bad - but is something that you should be aware of if you are looking on an ink is that super lubricated feeling. There is no waterproof and in such place where there might be some you will note that after you clear out the water you will have a hard time to read due to the ink turning very pale, again the best attributes of this ink will be the shading. As I say before I don't have that many pinks and this is one I can work with. While I wont say I'll use it on a daily basis, I'm sure there will be times where pink will be needed and this one will do the trick. I’m very grateful that I got this sample, and happy to have this ink as part of the 2 other pinks I have . It is over all a great way to close off the Homage of New Orleans line. There are many many stories and places from the city where inspiration could be drawn from, but maybe we will see that if they (Papier Plume) decides to do Volume 2! - Lore stories anyone? Availability This ink will be up for sale today Friday the 16th This will be the link when the ink goes live: https://www.papierpl...ict-azalea.htmlExpect release at 11am CST - They will have a limited run 60 bottles to sell online and it is a limited production Papier Plume notifies their ink availability through their newsletter first (link), then Instagram, then Facebook, and finally twitter (in that order). Thanks for reading until the end!
  5. The Lamy Safari is 17 grams and 37 years of design excellence that’s been the beginner’s fountain pen of choice for almost all those years. Its design is one of the most strikingly simple yet modern in the pen world, yet it has proven to be as timeless as any of the classics. The Al-Star is its big brother. Made from aluminum instead of ABS plastic, the Al-Star weighs more and feels more solid in the hand, but is nearly identical to the Safari in every other way. They share the same nib, design, and internal functions. The Al-Star is a way to own the classic yet modern design in a sturdier and slightly heavier body, and it appeals to people who like the feeling of metal in their hand while writing. Each year, a unique color is released as a limited edition for both the Safari and the Al-Star. This year, the Al-Star came in Pacific Blue. The Pacific Blue Al-Star Along with a Regular Blue Safari and a Dark Lilac Safari Appearance and Design The Pacific Blue color of this year’s Al-Star is striking and vibrant, yet light enough to not be overly flashy. The silver coloring of the nib and clip match well with the blue, creating a look of warm ocean waters. One factor of the design to be aware of, if you don’t already know, is that both Lamy Safaris and Al-Stars have a triangle grip, so they can be uncomfortable for some people to hold. For most, though, the grip is perfectly comfortable. As someone who enjoys having slightly unique pens, this limited edition is a truly gorgeous one, and in my opinion Lamy really nailed it with their color choice this year. The Al-Star Alone Construction and Quality This is a solid pen. In preparation for writing this review I used this pen daily for a little over a month, and in the course of use I dropped it countless times on varying surfaces, none of them particularly soft. The pen has yet to get a scratch. (These were all with the cap on however; you may fare far worse if the pen is dropped nib first.) Safaris have a bit of a reputation for being indestructible, and the Al-Star is a Safari but stronger. If you get this pen, you won’t have to worry about breaking it. Additionally, the overall quality of the finish is excellent. Lamy’s quality control is famously excellent (every pen is tested with a bit of blue ink before being shipped) and their care is on display in their pens. The Al-Star Deconstructed Weight and Dimensions If you’ve ever seen a Safari, it’s that but slightly heavier. As someone with large hands, it fits nicely posted in my hand while writing. I asked a friend with much smaller hands to test the pen as well, and she had no issues, although she did prefer the pen unposted. The pen posts easily, and I haven’t had any issues with scratching on the back of the pen from the cap, as I occasionally do on other pens. Nib and Performance So here’s the thing. It’s a steel nail. A very boring steel nail. But is boring so bad? The nib comes smooth straight from the box, and is incredibly reliable and consistent. In short, there’s nothing exciting going on but it’s a real work horse, and it’ll be smooth and ready to go from the get go. The nib sizes on these pens do tend to run broad, so if you aren’t used to Lamy nib sizes (or German sizes in general), I’d get one size smaller than you would usually buy. A Writing Sample with the Al-Star Filling System and Maintenance The Al-Star is a Cartridge/Convertor pen. It fits proprietary Lamy cartridges or a Lamy convertor, which can be purchased for give or take five dollars from wherever you buy the pen. The accompanying ink for this Limited Edition, Lamy Pacific Blue, can be purchased in either cartridge or bottle form, and matches the color of the body of the pen nicely. Cost and Value An Al-Star will set you back just under $40. Is it worth it? That’s up to you. For the same cost, you could have a gold-nibbed Platinum PTL-5000a or most of a TWSBI Diamond 580, both definitively better, or at least more interesting, pens to write with. The Al-Stars price forces it to compete with pens outside the Safaris league when it’s essentially a Safari with fancy skin. For me, the pen was worth it for the color. As a big fan of limited edition Lamy’s, I loved the Pacific Blue. But if you aren’t that into the color, there are other, better options for the price.
  6. An Open Letter to the Fountain Pen Community: Dear Fountain Pen Afficianados: It is a very sad day for me. I am a professor at UC Berkeley who loves fountain pens. I was upset to find my office broken into and my fountain pen collection, consisting of more than 50 pens, stolen. The thieves seemed to know what they were doing as they located some pens in rather non-obvious places. Some highlights of the collection at a Namiki Owl limited edition, a wide array of Pelikans from the 50s and 60s, and a Lamy Persona, a long discontinued model of wonderful design. Also in the collection were a Sheaffer Legacy with touchdown filler, a Sheaffer Intrigue in whale shark, and some lovely Omas Arco pens. Another unusual item is a Waterman Opera pen, a 1990 version of the Man 100 with lovely chasing. One item of strong sentimental value is a 1989 Montblanc 146. If you see such items suddenly turn up on eBay or offered for sale at a retail store, please alert the police. The theft is UCPD case #14-01720 and the phone # is 510-642-6760. I miss my collection greatly and will pay a handsome reward for its return. Please help me recover it. Sincerely, John Morgan
  7. As I plug my last cartridge of Lamy Copper Orange into my Al-Star, I start to consider replacements. So I have to ask: which inks the network believes are good look-alikes for Lamy Copper Orange? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

The fountain pen's trims are rhodium finished on brass. The cap ring is decorated with three dimensional letters. Hooligan V Review

Hooligan V #2/20 photo credit: Tim Cullen photo credit: Tim Cullen First Impression WOW! Pictures do not capture the luster of this pen! It is gorgeous. Last month, I returned from a week of arduous statistical training and awaiting me was the lovely Model V from Hooligan Pen Company! The V is a limited edition model and I have #2 of 20. The pen is a design collaboration between Tim Cullen and Dr. Joseph Vitolo. The nibs are tuned by Mike Masuyama to the purchaser's request and each pen is accompanied by a custom pen stand from Dan Brown. Appearance and Design (9) The clip and cap band are damascus which balances well with the acrylic. The engraving and numbering clearly id each pen - but each pen has a different clip (all custom made by Tim)... below is a photo of pen #1. (So why did I not rate appearance and design a 10? Personal preference only - my pens are usually flat tops - but this one hooked me straight away and I love it.) photo credit: Tim Cullen Construction and Quality (10) The fit and finish are perfect. PERIOD. And I have a reputation for being keen on the details. Tim also has a reputation for being a perfectionist and it shows in this flawless pen. In general, I do not cap my pens - and this pen is no exception BUT I do find that I hold the cap in my left hand while writing just because it feels that good - seriously there are zero rough edges or defects. Weight and Dimension (9) cap and barrel (inked): 1.3 oz cap: 0.5 oz barrel: 0.8 oz length: capped: 6.25" cap: 3" barrel and nib: 5 7/16" section diameter: just under 1/2" largest diameter on cap: just over 5/8" no calipers available so the diameters are close but not perfect measurements. This is a large pen and I love it! This pen is well balanced and comfortable with which to write. I love taking notes at work with it but have to be very careful - in only a few short weeks - 3 different folks have wanted to borrow it! (So why not a 10? Again personal preference - usually I would go for a smaller section diameter but it hasn't been an issue for me with this pen.) Be warned that the pen will not fit in all cases. But does work well in my Franklin-Christoph penvelope. Below is a comparison photo of the V and a Pelikan 800, Lamy Al-Star, TWSBI 700, Visconti Homo Sapiens Blue Swirl an Pilot Metropolitan. Nib and Performance (9) 18k two tone extra-fine nib tuned by Mike Masuyama and engraved with the Hooligan logo - writes very well. (So why not a 10? Again personal preference - my ideal nib is single tone - with the damascus clip I would have normally selected ruthenium finish.) Filling System (8) Standard converter - works well. Easy to fill / clean / maintain. (So why not a 10? Nothing fancy or unusual... but after spending the afternoon dealing with a vintage piston filler that has lost its cork - well I love the fact that I will never have that problem with this pen!) Cost and Value (10) The pen is an exceptional value at $650. This price includes the custom stand made by Dan Brown and nib tuning by Mike Masuyama. Tim is a true artist and his pieces are sure to increase in value. Overall (9.2) This pen has rocketed into my top 10 overall. There are pens in that group that cost much more and much less as I base my top group on function and not form. But it is "oh so nice" when the form challenges the function in such a gorgeous pen! Tim is a joy with which to work and I encourage anyone seeking a unique, high quality pen to seek out Hooligan and pick up one of his limited editions or a custom. This is not my first Hooligan. That pen is a personal custom design - that pen's review will post on July 2nd.

    Pilot Prera Les

Recently, I was shown a completely pink translucent Pilot Prera. Apparently it is a limited edition Pilot X Oeste Pink Flamingo. I found more pictures on the Kingfisher and Yellow Canary... Does anyone else have any information on these pens? I'm in love with Pilot Prera and would love to see if there are other Limited Editions I could get my hands on. Also suggestions for where to shop for these would be great... Thanks!
  11. The Montegrappa Game of Thrones Limited Edition is finally here! The Iron Throne pen is a masterpiece in a two-toned precious metal created using the lost-wax casting technique. The pen is available in sterling silver with vermeil trims or solid 18K gold, both with black and white celluloid details. The cap shows a royal crown with sword, its clip also shaped like a sword features a genuine ruby. The pen's barrel shows the Westeros families at war represented with fantasy creatures and sigils. This Limited Edition is available in fountain pen and rollerball. For the sterling silver version they have produced 300 pieces of each while for the gold version there are only 7 pieces. Fountain pen's use piston and feature a solid 18K gold nib amazingly engraved with the Iron Throne pattern. PVP: Sterling silver fountain pen: 3.900€ Sterling silver rollerball: 3.400€ Gold fountain pen: 48.900€ Gold rollerball: 52.900€ The edition will be available by the end of June but we are already taking pre-orders, in order to do so or get further information of this edition just email us at info@iguanasell.com
  12. Dear All, I came across this pen today and was wondering if anyone had any information about it. I searched FPN as usual, and at most, I could only find that it was likely to have been made by Omas, though I am uncertain. And if anyone is more familiar and can tell me about authenticity cues or if the pen is fake, please do let me know. Here's a link to the flyer: https://www.stylo.ca/images/produits/pdf/en_20136.pdf Here's the actual pen that I am looking at: I'm uncertain how much the price of this pen is on the market. The flyer says 3360 CHF, which if it is Swiss Francs, would be $3342 USD.
  13. http://kephost.com/images/2016/07/02/999018175359fb2c6f0fb295d1bf095a.jpg Visconti came out with the Homo Sapiens back in 2009, when I was starting to get into this hobby. The lava-resin with the bronze accessories was haunting me ever since, but things were not going in that direction what could lead me to get one. With the new editions coming out, the temptation got stronger. The Crystal Swirls came out in 2014 which was limited to 1000 pieces and it’s still a favorite for many! Lovely deep blue patterns and rhodium trim! Then came the Florentine Hills. Even though I’m not a huge fan of the colors on that pen, it’s still a lovely addition to the line. This year (2016) I made a decision that I need an Italian pen in my life. I was about to pull the trigger on the bigger Bronze HS, but I’ve been told that a grey-blue LE is on the way! There were some good signs that I might like this new family member in the Homo Sapiens line. Grey and blue are among my favorite colors, it’s a demonstrator, and it has a rhodium trim. Even though I would choose the bronze age over the steel age with the regular HS, I generally prefer the rhodium trim. Then I saw the first photos of the LONDON FOG Limited Edition and I pretty much fell in love. There was no turning back form there. Filippo in the „Fountain Pen Group Buying” group on Facebook could get a pretty sweet deal on it, so I couldn’t be happier! Placed my order on my most expensive pen so far! I did have a few concerns though. With the previous two editions some people received pens with less than satisfying patterns on their pens even though these were meant to have nice busy swirls over the barrel. It’s hard to foresee, so it’s a risk unless the seller is willing to send you photos of the pen. The other thing was the nib. The dream touch nibs are not always a dream out of the box (based on some reviews and user experiences), and they mostly run wide and wet, so you need to take that into consideration when choosing the nib size. I won’t save the punchline for the end of this, so all I need to say is that it didn’t disappoint in either of those areas! And after this long prelude, here it is! 537/888 http://kephost.com/images/2016/07/02/619388e8daab978273be8b3e8485e36e.jpg The body is made of a mixture of acrylic and celluloid = 'arcyloid’ . This is how they got the swirls on the body. This material was used on the Florentine Hills as well, just like the sterling silver rings on the cap and barrel. The cap has some transparency, but that’s not the main feature. I love the twist-lock action of the cap! The play of blue-grey-white colors of the material on the cap, end cap and grip section is really interesting and has some chatoyance which is fun to watch in the light! http://kephost.com/images/2016/07/02/4c3b453c553a2f7484bc075cc2d6bad3.jpg http://kephost.com/images/2016/07/02/44ea72cd9b93b9499d22c9d03395f3bc.jpg The London Fog also has Visconti’s power filler with the double reservoir. Some love it, some don’t. Especially cleaning is said to be more time consuming, but I’m yet to see that. Filling the pen is not a big hassle, buti f it’s your first pen with such filling system, it can take a little getting used to. It’s more about how to hold the pen (and depending on the ink, the bottle as well) to fill it though. Aside from the fancy name it’s basically a vacuum filler, but you don’t need to unscrew the endcap after a short while to keep writing, because the smaller reservoir holds a good amount of ink too! It can last a few pages with a fine nib. The other, more advertised advantage is that you can empty the smaller ink reservoir to avoid ink from leaking during air travel. After Sheaffer years ago, it’s Visconti who rediscovered the Palladium nibs and added the catchy ’Deam Touch’ name to them. This pen has a 23k Palladium EF nib on it. Actually, a surprisingly true EF with great flow and smoothness to it! I was expecting a F/M line to be honest, but never a better surprise! Finer than the EF on my Pelikan M805, but those run pretty wide too anyway. What people love about the Dream touch nibs is that they are springy! This nib is really responsive to general writing pressure differences, but I don’t really feel comfortable „flexing” it. It has a really nice softness to it, but I wouldn’t go further than that. I love the overall writing experience! http://kephost.com/images/2016/07/02/de96e054a00a9027d9aa864f1d486680.jpg http://kephost.com/images/2016/07/02/9dc8e603f835d287f6c48b5e27eeb722.jpg http://kephost.com/images/2016/07/02/624792ac8b0846171bf28e3b26ef9f20.jpg It is my most expensive pen, also my first Italian pen, and I have to say it really lived up to my expectations! The Bronze age HS is still on my list though! Maybe even got higher!

    Noodler's Proctor's Ledge 2016 Le

The third of the 2016 Commonwealth Pen Show Noodler's special, limited edition inks. This one is another waterproof ink, well nearly so, with just a little smearing. Similar to BB Espresso or Sailor Doyou in being a very dark brown, a rich earth color. In the images I couldn't get the brown, the contrast was too much and the camera just took it as black. But it's not black! It's deep brown. Trust me. The especially wonderful thing about this ink is DOES NOT wash red. It washes brown, like Parker Penman Mocha. Unfortunately, another unobtanium ink. There may be a few bottles left at GoldSpot, or perhaps not. If any are available, once gone, will be gone forever as the ink was made with a unique dye that Noodler's can't get. Since I received a generous sample I won't need a bottle. But I'd love to have an ink this color, regularly available, that washed brown like this, and was a cool brown. Things like this will get me attending the 2017 Commonwealth Pen Show. Pen: Edison Premiere (M-steel) Papers: MvL=Mohawk via Linen, TR=Tomoe River, Hij=Hammermill 28 lb inkjet, Rhodia=Rhodia 90g ivory. Camera: iPhone 7 Waterproof. Just a tiny amount of ink washes away, and none lifts. In the little halo areas where you see a light red, while drying that at first had an orange and a yellow. Very unique.

Thanks!

  20. Another of the 2016 LE inks by Noodler's from the Commonwealth Pen Show. This is a totally waterproof ink. A nice soft, vintage blue. Fast-drying on more absorbent papers. Even on Rhodia, mostly dry in 5 seconds. Totally unobtanium. So I'm very happy that someone sent me a generous sample. Thank you inky friend! The flow is really good in this ink, and I like it. Pen: Edison Premiere (F-steel) Papers: MvL=Mohawk via Linen, TR=Tomoe River, Hij=Hammermill 28 lb inkjet, Rhodia=Rhodia 90g ivory. Camera: iPhone 7
  21. I really am going to have to find something special to get for this inky FPN friend who has supplied me with generous amounts of limited edition Noodler's inks. Thank you inky friend! This was the third ink of the 2015 Commonwealth Pen Show special inks. And it might be the best of the three. Normally I don't go for such magenta inks as this, but when I started writing I realized this was the most beautiful ink I'd ever seen. It is really such a pity that this was LE. Gone! Unobtanium forever! Especially since the dye used in this ink was discontinued, or no longer available. A shame really. Pen: Aurora Ipsilon Deluxe (M-14kt) Papers: MvL=Mohawk via Linen, TR=Tomoe River, Hij=Hammermill 28 lb inkjet, Rhodia=90g Rhodia ivory This ink is extremely water resistant. It dries nearly instantaneously on somewhat absorbent papers, and quite fast on others. With wet pens you may get some show through. The Aurora I used here is not a very wet pen, and I didn't encounter problems. There is some light staining on the converter. I haven't emptied the pen yet, so I don't know if it will be difficult to clean, but it doesn't seem like much. So, that could be an issue for demonstrators, pens with clear barrels, and the like. Fairly rapid drying even on Rhodia. Quite water resistant.
  22. Thanks to a wonderful FPN inky friend I have a very generous sample of the limited edition Noodler's ink from the 2015 Commonwealth Pen Show. Sadly, not available at all, probably for any price. I didn't find any even on ebay, but there never was much of this available in the first place. This is a nice grass green ink, with some water resistance, very fast drying especially on absorbent papers. Drier pens might be better for this ink as experienced some show through using my M-nibbed, wet, Edison Premiere. It wasn't terrible, but for those writing on both sides of the paper, to minimize and problems keep your most wet pens for another ink. On Tomoe River there's red sheen wherever the ink pools. Pen: Edison Premiere (M-steel) Papers: MvL=Mohawk via Linen, TR=Tomoe River, Hij=Hammermill 28 lb inkjet, Rhodia=Rhodia 90g ivory While somewhat water resistant, the problem is that the ink penetrates the paper to the verso. So you might have difficulty recovering writing due to that. A most unusual ink droplet.
  23. Hello Pelikan lovers, we are glad to introduce this years Pelikan Maki-e fountain pen! Symbolizing spring and autumn we find a cherry blossom and maple carefully drawn on the fountain pen's cap and body. Three traditional Japanese designs are represented on the cap: A flow of water on the green zone, a leaf of hemp on the brown area and finally a golden stripe. All of them are created using many small pieces gold leaf. The fountain pen's body features additional artistic designs, as well as small pieces of blue shell to create the beautiful Raden area. A infinite pattern of stripes is drawn on the violet zone entailing eternal love. The Harikiri technique, known for being one of Makie-e's most difficult techniques is also used on the silver area giving a dramatic and beautiful touch to this masterpiece. This Limited Edition combines Pelikan's German heritage, technology and hand craftsmanship with Japanese Maki-e techniques. The crown features Pelikan's iconic logo, the Limited Edition number and the artists' signature have been drawn by hand in each fountain pen using Maki-e.
