  1. I'm not affiliated with Levenger. Here is my new True Writer Jave fountain pen. Along with a bottle of Forest ink, I spent enough to get a Levenger's $50 gift card. The deal lasts through May 28 (you have to spend $100). Because I love coffee, and am fond of brown ink, I had to get this pen.
  2. Has anyone picked up one of the Levenger Circa Voyager notebooks or seen one in person? http://www.levenger.com/circa-voyager-leather-notebook-13079.aspx I use the Levenger Circa/ Staples Arc system extensively at work, and have really enjoyed the ability to switch around pages in the order that I want while on the fly. This looks almost like they're trying to take a little bit of the vibe of the Midori Traveler system and apply it to their Circa line. Not connected to Levenger or Staples at all... Just wanted to see if anyone had tried one of these since it's a little spendy for something that I might not like. John

    Levenger Cocoa Review

This is a quick review of Levenger Cocoa which I initially published on my blog. I purchased the ink as part of Levenger's sampler pack, and I am reviewing all of them. To read the other, more in-depth reviews, go here. Properties Sheen: NoneShading: ExcellentWater Resistance: Interestingly changes to redFeathering:High; Although I haven't used this ink on copier paper yet, it feathers on Black n' Red paper.Drying Time: Extremely long; not a good ink for some sinistral writersWetness: AverageLubrication: Well lubricatedStaining: I haven't noticed any staining. Cleaning: The ink cleans out of a pen easily. Nib Creep: None with my Visconti Rembrandt Writing SamplePen: Visconti Rembrandt FinePaper: Black n'Red Notebook To my eyes and on my monitor, this scan appears color accurate. For instructions on calibrating a monitor, follow this link. Shading and feathering can be seen more easily by zooming in on the picture. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rvis4Ez_WXM/U8DO6NKmgXI/AAAAAAAAAlc/vynpIvjgnxQ/s1600/SCAN0061.JPG Cocoa has become one of my favorite inks for its excellent shading and great color. The long drying time doesn't particularly bother me because this isn't an ink I would use often or for quick notes; I only use it at home because of its color. If this ink appeals to you, you can purchase Cocoa from Levenger for $12, and it's often on sale for $10 or less. When I eventually purchase a full bottle, I'll write a more detailed review.

    Levenger Nib Issue

HI All, I purchased a Levenger l-tech. I have one from a few years ago, and it writes flawlessly in medium. I purchased another one b/c I like it so much. The pen came with a nib that was having issues stopping when making certain letters, and the flow was "slow". Nothing like my other pen. I called Levenger and their excellent customer support replaced the nib. The second nib seems to do fine once you get it started, but it has issues starting. I could pick my other pen up after sitting for a week and have a perfect stroke the first time. I saw on another thread that some nibs when brand new have oils in them, and to use a little dishwashing detergent in water to clean it out. I did that. Same.... I once again contacted Levenger, and they are ready to give me a refund, but I don't really want to give up yet. Any ideas? Should I write with it for a while and hope it fixes itself?? aarrgggg!
  5. Hello all! I have two Levenger True Writers that I got for a bargain, but both are lacking inner caps, which means that they dry up VEEEEERY quickly when not in use. Is there any way to replace the inner cap, or should I look for new caps altogether?
  6. Have received two Levenger catalogs during the last few weeks. One offered 20% discount with free shipping and the one that came in today offered 25% off with free shipping (all the time) on orders over $100.00. I read the small print - disclaimer about applying the discount and, if I read it correctly, I can't use the $40.00 gift card I have. You have to choose either the special discount pricing or using the gift card. personally that sounds a little bit "bait & switchish". NOTE: I'm not questioning the legality of it (they can do almost anything they want really) it's just that it limits my options on what and when to buy. I was going to buy one of their pens or maybe some ink and between the discount and my gift card I would be a very happy customer. Instead, I guess I'll just wait until I find something else that is screaming, "BUY ME"! Any thoughts about this??
  7. Levenger and their True Writer series presents a bit of a puzzle in their value proposition. On the one hand, I have a Kyoto True Writer, gotten for a cheap price on a deal, which is a wonderful pen: lovely writer, well balanced, and very pretty. So I thought about adding a stub nib to it, as a fun option. Visiting Levenger, I discovered that regular nib units run $30, not great but not horrible either. Stubs, however, cost double! That's about what I paid for the whole pen! And seems like a total ripoff. So what's the deal? Is there some justification for charging double the price for a stub? Do they really cost so much more to make? Or is this pure price discrimination on Levenger's part where normal people get the "good" price on fountain pens, but those of us who love them get killed on "specialty items" like the stub. More broadly, does Levenger represent legitimate value or is it a ripoff?

It has a nice enough color to become an everyday green for me, but the bleed through prevents me from being able to use it on any paper but the nicest. It's also somewhat water resistant but changes to a completely different color. If the color appeals to you and its poor performance on absorbent paper isn't a deal breaker, it's currently on sale for $10 on Levenger's website. (20 cents per mL) Pros A nice dark green colorSlight shadingSomewhat resistant to waterDries quicklyAccording to Levenger's website, the ink is lightfast, but I haven't tested that claim. Cons Moderate feathering, bleed through, and show throughDrier than Levenger's other inks (I would recommend using this ink in an extremely wet pen, e.g. Pelikan Mxxx, to remedy this) Possible Uses Grading papers Journaling on nicer paperNote-taking (It's easy to read.)Sending letters around St. Patrick's Day or Christmas

    Levenger Cardinal Red Review

I originally posted this review on my blog. Thus far I've noticed that their properties are very consistent: most dry quickly and perform well on low-quality, absorbent paper. Cardinal Red mostly continues the trend with the exception of its longer dry time. I decided to try this ink because I needed a bright red for editing documents by hand. The ink is perfect for that purpose, so a bottle may find its way into my ink drawer. If you're interested in this ink, it's often on sale for $10 with free shipping from Amazon, making it an excellent value for your money. I was in no way compensated for this review, and this review contains my honest opinions about the ink. Specifications: Manufacturer: Levenger Color: RedMSRP: $12Actual Price: $12Price I paid: I bought this as part of the Levenger Ink Sampler for $12 while it was on sale. I would highly recommend this ink sampler as it is the only way to try Levenger's inks without buying full bottles.Amount of Ink: 50 mlCost per ml: 24¢/ml at $12 Bottle: Glass; It includes a reservoir Where to Buy: All of Levenger's inks are exclusive to their website.* * All prices are the prices at the time of this review's writing on July 1, 2014 Properties: Sheen: NoneShading: Hardly noticeableWater Resistance: Somewhat water resistantFeathering: Minimal on copier paperBleed through: ModerateShow through/ Ghosting: HighDrying Time: FastWetness: AverageLubrication: Well lubricatedStaining: I haven't noticed any staining. Cleaning: The ink cleans out of a pen easily Nib Creep: Minimal- Nib creep doesn't bother me because it has no effect on the writing experience.Okay on Copier Paper?: If you're using the ink only for editing or grading papers, it performs very well. For more intensive writing, the show through may be bothersome. If this ink were water resistant, it would be perfect for my uses. When editing a document or grading something, a small spill would destroy everything written with this ink. This ink also takes more time to dry than Levenger's other inks. As a dextral writer myself, this doesn't trouble me at all. If you're left-handed and move your hand over freshly written words, the ink will smear and may cause issues. The redeeming quality of this ink is its color. Cardinal Red is a true red, and when diluted slightly with water, it becomes a nice pink. I may have to buy a bottle of it just for its color. Pros A great red color which could be used for editing or gradingMinimal feathering on average and nice paperDries quicklyLightfast according to Levenger's website (I haven't tested this yet.) Cons Moderate bleed through and show throughExtreme feathering on highly absorbent papers (e.g. the flashcard)Not very water resistant Possible Uses Editing, correcting, and grading papersChristmas cards and letters around that timeSending love letters (Cardinal Red is much better for this while diluted slightly.) The show through and bleed through are minimal, but the feathering is moderate to extreme. This is an ink I like, but I don't think I would use it often enough to justify the purchase of a bottle. If you like the color and its properties, it's often on sale for $10 (20 cents per mL). Uses:Personal journalingInformal correspondence (The color is too light for formal writing)Note-taking Pros:Minimal bleed through and show throughNot very expensive (24 cents per mL)Well lubricated and easy to cleanExcellent shadingSlight red sheen Cons:Moderate feathering on low-quality paperNot very water-resistant http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pNfZ4fdWlAc/U69YFL3MX2I/AAAAAAAAAaY/6KSjhybq-3I/s1600/DSC_0367.JPG Please visit my blog and tell me what you think of it.
  11. Anyone have experience to share with the Levenger Cafe Au Lait pen, or one of the other Levenger pens with metal sections? I'm considering breaking my no-metal-sections rule just because I really think this pen is pretty, and right now the price is right. But I worry that the section will keep getting slippery and need to be wiped off all the time. I've never owned a pen with a metal section, so I don't know how much of an issue that generally is, or if some pens are worse than others.

    Levenger Ink Question

Hey all. I have been looking at some Levenger inks that people seem to like. They have a nice bottle, colors look good and reports are they act well. But I am put off by the price. The bottles, according to the Levenger website, are 15ml in size but cost $12 each. Surely that can't be right. That's .80¢ per ml, making the ink some of the most expensive around (Pilot Iroshizuku is .56¢ per ml, and Pelikan Edelstein is .50¢ per ml in the US). Do the properties of the ink really justify the price? I mean Noodles is less than 1/5th the price.
  13. Let me preface this by saying that I have no idea if this is the correct forum to post this in, but none of the others seemed to fit exactly. I recently received a gift card for Levenger Pens, worth $75. I want to use this to buy a pen, but Levenger does not carry any of the brands I prefer. For those who do enjoy the products sold at Levenger's site, I wondered if you would like to swap a gift card for a website I can use, mainly gouletpens.com or nibs.com, for the levenger gift card I have. Or even if you do not have a gift card for those places and are simply looking to buy something from Levenger's, I would much appreciate it if we could arrange for you to purchase a card from one of those sites in exchange for the Levenger card, just to help me out. I know that this is an odd request, but I would very much appreciate it if anybody could help me out here. I don't want to waste $75 on a pen I do not need.
  14. So I got this Levenger pen off eBay, and was curious what model it is, and when it was manufactured. It writes extremely well inked with Diamine Twilight, and the nib has "Levenger" with an "L" logo and "18K" on it, while the cap has "Levenger Germany" written on it, with an extremely small "925" written vertically. (Sorry, I'd post a picture of these details, but I don't have a macro lens.)
  15. So, I've been on a quest for years for the perfect (for me blue). Here is my current mix. http://sheismylawyer.com/She_Thinks_In_Ink/Inklings/slides/2013-Ink_670.jpg http://sheismylawyer.com/She_Thinks_In_Ink/Inklings/slides/2013-Ink_671.jpg
  16. For those of you who, like me, have been hoping Levenger would offer options for A4 and A5 size notebooks, they now do! Say hello to the Circa Universal Notebook and the accompanying Circa Universal Desk Punch They also have several Circa paper options in A4 and A5, so it looks like Levenger is looking to get more into the international market.. For now they only offer the notebook in black leather, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll start offering it in a nice bold color soon too. Not affiliated with Levenger, just a European gal currently living in California who's been drooling over the Circa notebooks, but refusing to spend that kind of money if I can't use it when I leave the US in a few years. (Just in case you're wondering: junior size notebooks can accommodate A5 size paper, but letter size notebooks cannot accommodate A4 size paper.)

    Hello From New Hampshire!

Hello, I'm Rico, from Hudson. I just got onto fountain Pens about 2 days ago. I've been thinking that I wanted to get a Fountain Pen lately then stumbled across the Burlington, MA. Paradise Pen store. I just looked around the first time knowing I would be in Burligton again. The next time, I looked to buy. I ended up buying a Vision Nature Rosewood Fountain Pen with a medium Iridium point from Online GmBh. http://www.paradisepen.com/ONLINE-Vision-Nature-Rosewood-Fountain-Pen-Medium-Point/PAAAIALHPBFMOMLF/Product I've been doing research online since. Last nite I found a Levenger True Writer Kyoto Fountain Pen at one of those "sell your stuff to us & we'll sell it to someone else" stores. (http://www.levenger.com/Pens---Refills-8/Fountain-Pens-831/True-Writer-Fountain-Pen-Kyoto-6730.aspx ) There was another one that had the lever & I couldn't take it apart to open it, so I left it until I could learn more about pens. I brought Kyoto home & started researching pen restoration. (I'm a year into a hobby of restoring Vintage tobacco pipes and razors [mostly Single & Double Edge] so I figgered pens shouln't be too difficult.) The Kyoto is a cartridge pen, so it'll be an easy first Fountain Pen restore. It came w/ an empty cartridge so I know what it looks like to find others. Locally, I can't seem to find any Levenger ink. Does anyone know if other brand cartridges are compatable? Otherwise, I'm resigned to ordering online. I'd like to find something locally so I can use my new beauty right away. Rico
