Hi folks, I'm thinking of purchasing a lathe so that I can try to make my own tools, create custom cap bands, create custom cap band bushings of PEEK (e.g., to follow Fountainbel's swaging techniques) etc. I'd only be using the lathe for pen repair. I'd greatly appreciate any recommendations for specific models you have used with success for pen work. Thanks, Richard

I was frustrated on a pen I bought: a Stipula Etruria Gallicana in Oronero color with a stiflexnib. This pen was gorgeous at first sight, but some drawbacks refrained me from using it daily: -It could only hold a small amount of ink: it is a CC filler. -The feed was a disaster as it was not suitable for a flex nib like the stiflex nib. -The pen was made of acrylic and i love the warm feeling of ebonite. After months of drawing plans and attempting on making parts for the pen I finally succeeded! This pen is made from ebonite rods from Nikko ebonite in ripple orange. The filling system is a Vac-Fill, a copy of the Wahl-Eversharp Doric second generation filling system. The cap doesn't post. The clip is sculpted from solid 316L stainless steel. Cap jewel and end barrel jewel are made of a gem grade rhodolite garnet embedded in 316L stainless steel. The cap ring is made of a solid rod of 316L stainless steel, engraved by hand with carbide tipped burr, with an artificially rusted finish. The nib is an original 14k Stiflex nig from Globus (Stipula) and is quite a wet noodle. The feed is in hard rubber from a destroyed Omas 360. Here are the pictures, it is now my daily writer!

Hello, I am planning to make my pens as possible as custom made, so I need special metrics for threading. There are many threading solutions, I know Tapping is one of them The matter is the taps and dies with triple/quatro leads are so expensive. They are made of (oftenly) HSS, that is why lifespans are not so long. My commissioners are asking for usually 12mm, 13mm, 13.5mm, 14mm, 14,5mm and 15mm multistart barrel threads. The total price for a whole set is not so affordable recently.. That is why I decided to make them manually, I have some solutions to make it easy There are couple of videos and essays I ve found on web, they are all about metal threading. The materials we are using are not that much strong, mostly thel are brittle.. As I succeed to make a proper one, I am going to share all stages here. I am just curious if anybody made anything about this problem? Is there anything to be aware of before starting

I need to repair a Rotring 600 / Newton mechanical pencil. I am not sure exactly where the piece went missing, but the other day I came across the pencil that I had stashed away awhile ago. I realized I had tucked it away because it is missing one of the top parts. I was probably unscrewing and disassembling the pencil at some point and misplaced the part. Calls and emails to Newell are unsuccessful as they do not have any repair parts available. So now it's time to fabricate the part myself. Does anyone have a Newton 600 pencil, and a set of calipers as well? It is the newer old style and the part I am looking for is described in the pictures. I really only need the thread dimensions, I can figure out the rest based on what I have. Any help would be appreciated!
