    Ef Nibs?

News that everyone should be aware of... I was informed by my Lamy USA Rep that Germany intends to discontinue stainless (LZ50) EF Nibs for Studio, Safari, and Al-Star Pens.. This means that once the stock from the vendor (and dealers) is over, these nibs will no longer be available. This is unfortunate, as this seemed to be a very popular size. I checked with rep, and the loose nibs will also no longer be available once supply is depleted. So, if you like EF nibs- check with your dealer regarding stock. You can buy them seperately, or with pens till everyone sells out! First Stub Nib (Lamy) ?

I have another thread talking about my entrance into fountain pens; I won't go into too much detail, but if anyone is interested in a little background, feel free to read that thread before continuing on in this thread surrounding a few questions I have regarding stub nibs. Here is that thread: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/312663-first-timer-entering-the-world-of-fountain-pens/ I know there are a lot of really good recommended pens with stub nibs or even flex nib pens, however, I don't really want to buy another pen as I just got done spending a decent chunk of money so I thought getting a replacement stub nib for my Lamy Safari would be a good starting place. I want to add a little flair / flourish to my salutations, signatures, and some capital letters. The pens in question that I could put a stub nib in are, TWSBI Eco. Jinhao X450. Lamy Safari. I currently have a Goulet broad in my Jinhao x450 and I could buy a Goulet stub for it. Replacing the nibs in the pens I own is pretty simple, however, nib replacement in the Lamy is probably the easiest amongst the pens I own. Because I don't want to spend a lot of money and want my first stub experience to be simple and hassle-free do you guys or gals think getting a replacement stub for my safari is the best route for a first timer / good starting place stub nib? Any and all suggestions are welcome. **Edit** Brian from Goulet Pens also recommends starting with a 1.1Stub; would you guys and gals agree?
  3. Ok. So i got the assortment of nibs from lamy. Namely the 1.5 and 1.9 mm italic nibs. My question is, are they supposed to be so scratchy?!? I have a 1.1 mm goulet stub in my konrad, and its great!!! Ive tried smoothing the 1.5 a bit, but not much. Didnt wanna damage it because ive never smoothed an italic nib. I know my goulet 1.1 is a stub italic so it has very rounded edges. Are the lamys cursive italics and dont have as much roundness on the outside points? Im kind of disappointed. If i press a bit while writing for more shading im getting a thin saturated line in the middle of my line on the downstroke... What am i doing wrong?!? I know there are three italic nibs... the stub italic, the cursive italic and a tgird the pretty much has sharp points on the outside edges... Lamys are listed as calligraphy italic... dont know what that means. Tell me there is nothing wrong with the nib and its just me... lol Thanks!!!!
