  1. Hi, everyone. I was just transferring my Lamy Dialog 3 Piano White from one storage case to another, and I noticed that the pen has got these stains running up and down the length of the body. These stains are a bit of a surprise to me since I've pretty much babied this thing and have used it sparingly. At this point, I'm thinking that the staining is something that happened while the pen was in storage in one of three Franklin-Christoph pen cases that I have and use. Attached are two photos that show the staining. I tried to rub this off with some distilled water and a microfiber cloth with the hope that the staining was just on the surface. But no dice. It looks like the stain is set in there. Questions and thoughts on this: 1. Has anybody experienced the same thing with the Lamy Dialog 3 Piano White getting easily marked or discolored or stained? If so, is there a way to get these marks off? 2. Has anybody ever experienced a discoloration or have anything happen to the surface of their pens because of being stored in a Franklin-Christoph pen case? I'm learning the hard way that I've been quite careless in how I've been storing my pens, as I was assuming pen cases to be good enough for medium to longer term storage. Thank you for your help.
  2. Lamy have different 14K gold nibs 2000 series nibs Z 55 --> dialog 3, studio, cp1 and others Z 56 --> imporium palladium finish and rose gold Z 57 --> imporium black and black/gold finish I'm planning to upgrade the nib of my Lamy Logo with a gold springy Lamy nib (I want a springer nib without expend much money buying another pen, I like my Logo), but what are the differences between Z 55, Z 56 and Z 57? In pages like nibsmith or appelboom for example, Z 56 and Z 57 have a higher cost compared to Z 55. Of course! Z 56 and Z 57 are the Lamy imporium nibs and have some minimal differences in design (no breather hole)... But talking about only the writing perfomance (springiness and other aspects that affect writing experience), what is the differences? Anyone has tested and can compare those nibs?
  3. I have two Lamy Dialog 3 pens, and in neither does the nib align with the clip on the cap. This means I cannot hold the pen naturally: one of my fingers is always crushed agains the clip just to get the nib to be flat on the page. I think I have figured out why. Attached are these images: 1. Pen #1 and its nib slightly misaligned with the cap's clip. 2. Pen #2 with the nib from pen #1: the nib is totally out of alignment. 3. A picture of two crimp marks on the nib's barrel, and my proposed explanation of how Lamy (fails to) align each nib uniquely with its cap. As I write in the third image: I think Lamy's process to align a nib with a cap involves the following steps: 1. Insert a nib into a barrel, in which the nib can rotate freely. 2. Screw that barrel into a cap. 3. Twist the cap to extrude the nib completely. 4. Rotate the nib in it's barrel until the nib aligns with the cap's clip. 5. Crimp the nib's barrel, locking the nib into position inside its barrel forever. 6. Twist the cap to retract the nib 7. Ship the pen If I'm right, it means Lamy has poor quality control in step 4: neither of my two pens is properly aligned. It also means that every Lamy Dialog 3 has a nib that is uniquely (mis-)aligned, and that there is no way to fix the problem: you can never re-align a misaligned nib. In short, buyer beware.

    Questions About Lamy Dialog 3

I am on the verge of buying a Dialog 3 (it seems like thick sections and heavier pens are most comfortable for me) but have a few questions before I jump the gun. First of I want to know how the pen feels to grip (not sure how to word this) I have never had a pen that is basically a tube end to end so I'm not sure how it would feel (I know the best way to know if it would be comfortable would be going and trying it out in a store but I dont have the opportunity to) . I normally have the tripod grip with most of the weight on my middle finger, so I dont think holding the pen itself would would be a problem but I tend to have sweaty fingers after a bit of writing so I worry a bit about the pen sliding a out of my grip. Secondly I saw the other post about the coating peeling off the pen and I worry that it will happen with my pen. Is the peeling a common problem of certain finishes or the entire line? I would rather not have a pen that's coating easily peels, as I would use the pen as apart of my edc, though I never treat my pens roughly, there would be a higher risk or peeling. Side note: as all my other pens (just two) have extra fine nibs Im thinking about maybe getting the pen with a broad nib on it then getting it ground down to a specialty nib to add a little flavor to my notes. So Im looking at either an architect or stub grind, Im not sure which one would look the best with cursive with a finer grind. Any thoughts are appreciated.
