I know this has been discussed before so I apologize if I'm beating the proverbial deceased equine. I'm still unclear of the differences between JoWo nibs used by different companies. I see where Edison says they tune the nibs in house & Goulet says they inspect theirs, but I have not used either of these nibs before. I have several Conklin & Monteverde branded JoWo nibs which seem to span from smooth as glass to scratchy like a bad Christmas sweater. Most of them fall somewhere in the middle though. So is there any real difference between the different branded JoWo nibs? Or is a matter of quality control where a company like Edison pays more attention to ensure consistency or that a nib installed on a pen may have better QC than a loose nib? If it makes a difference I'm asking more toward EF & F nibs.

I love everything about the Triple Tail. The largeness. The clearness. The non-smellyness. The plunger filling system. The 308 cartridges I can use. Everything, that is, but the nib itself. It's just too darn much for me. It's finicky, which is bad enough. But even when it does work after heat setting, etc -- and even with an ink as simple as 4001 Royal Blue or Waterman Serenity Blue -- it's like writing with a paint brush. And that's before flexing! Before I return it for a partial refund, I thought I would see if anyone has managed to trade it out for a #6 nib? And it not a basic #6, then something else? I saw someone asked Goulet, and the answer was: "Maybe". Have you done it? How'd it go?

I'm looking at https://rangapens.com/, and they offer a large variety of nibs in their handmade pens: Schmidt, Jowo, and Bock, steel & titanium. I'd hate to just guess and then have long round trips of shipping from US to India for swaps & service, so I wonder if anyone has some thoughts on: * How soft or springy do the various brands and materials tend to be in broad-point and medium-point? I don't write flexy-style, but I like a little bounce on the nib and paper. * Are there general trends of wetness vs dryness across the brands and materials? I know this depends a lot on tuning, maybe completely on tuning, but perhaps someone knows some general trends. * How buttery versus feedbacky do the various brands and materials tend to be (after tuning)? I'm ambivalent about this. Too much feedback can get tiring, too buttery can be annoying, too. * How easy is it to tune the nibs without dismounting them for these various brands and materials? * Any general differences in steel versus titanium in softness, feedbacky-ness, tunability? * I have a couple Goulet #6 broad-points, and I like them. Anyone know whether they are one of those brands? * Any comparisons in performance and feel to other nibs I am familiar with, i.e., Namiki #50, Montblanc 149, Visconti dreamtouch Palladium? (thinking out loud) these pens are so inexpensive that maybe I should just order three barrels each threaded for one of the three brands (I am pretty sure the three brands differ in threading, so the barrels would not be mutually compatible), then start experimenting with the nibs.

Opus88 Omar Clear Demonstrator is one of the latest eyedropper pens from Taiwan based, Opus88 Many reviews have touched on the basics of these popular eyedropper filling mechanism based designs. They drink most any ink and have cornered the market on affordable modern eyedropper mechanism pens with piston shut-off. This is just a quick look at the largest size Omar in a clear demonstrator finish. The Omar is basically the demonstrator model plus a few stylish curved touches.The piston rod pulls out just like other opi/opuses to act as a shut-off from the main ink supply.I've never had one of these pens before and bought it for the looks, filling mechanism and Jowo #6 nib compatibility.Plus it is waay less expensive than a Namiki Emperor or vintage Ban-ei eyedropper with that cool eyedropper mechanism. Size is relative. But the Omar is a non-posting pen and skews to the larger side.I have smaller hands but I found the size very comfortable, more than say a Pilot Custom Urushi I'd put it between a Sailor KOP and Sailor 1911L; just right!! Top to Bottom size comparison: Pilot Custom Urushi, Opus88 Omar Clear, Lamy Safari Vista, Sailor 1911 Large Demonstrator, Aurora 88 Chrome cap, Pilot Kakuno So far the performance is the great standard out of the box, Jowo #6 medium nib: smooth and direct with little feedback using Monteverde Olivine ink I have not tried swapping the steel nib but I do believe that it would be compatible with Jowo #6 nibs on cartridge/converter pens like Franklin-Christoph, Edison Pens, Esterbrook Estie (Kenro), Carolina Pen Company, Ryan Krusac pens, et al.from other videos I think there is a teeny o-ring I need to retain unlike the c/c jowo which does not have one.One negative was the nib was askew from the feed out of the box, but a simple twist set the feed aligned symmetrically with the nib point.Built quality It's plastic and sturdy and clearIt has that plastic on plastic squeak/scratch sound between the threads (I'll probably silicone em up)the powder coated paint black matte clip seems pretty secure I wish more companies were like TWSBI and include extra goodies, as Opus88 could supply back-up o-ringsSummary I'd buy this pen again. I have been looking through some old compatibility threads but haven't found an answer to my question, so if this has been addressed elsewhere I apologize in advance. I was wondering what nib is compatible with the Diplomat Magnum. Goulet says the Magnum has a JoWo nib, but doesn't say what size. I know that #5 and #6 are standard sizes, but don't know which is on the Diplomat. The stock Diplomats only come in three nib types and now that I finally got brave enough to change a nib on a Lamy I'm keen to try some others. Thanks.

I guess many of you know about Ranga pens. I decided of buying a pen from them. They do offer a lot of nib options namely from JoWo, Bock, Schmidt. I generally like butter smooth nibs with the very least amount of feedback to it. If I were to go for a Fine or an EF nib, which one of the above nib manufacturer should I stick to?
