    Hello From Brunei!

Hello my name is Caleb and I do not have a pen problem yet, but I feel I soon will. Currently waiting for my first pen to arrive, its a blue Pilot Custom 74 , and yes I know its an expensive first pen but I know I want to get into the hobby so why spend loads on many cheaper pens when I can have a really nice pen from the get-go with the same amount of money? Im from Brunei, a tiny country in south east Asia which doesn't really have a fountain pen culture so I have to order stuff from overseas. So far I have ordered that Pilot pen, some pilot namiki cartridges, noodler's black, Rhodia dot-pads, Clairefontaine lined paper for school, and Clairefontaine Triomphe paper and envelopes as I want to start writing letters. I do like me some good paper. Am I meant to say more about myself? I dunno. As you can probably guess I suffer from severe verbal diarrhoea which is why I want to get into pens. I am an ENTP personality type. I enjoy music, especially Radiohead and other Alternative rock. Blur, The Smiths, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins. I could go on for hours. I hear the fountain pen community is friendly and helpful so I look forward to being a part of this amazing hobby.

    Hello To Fpn!

Just leaving a quick introduction for everyone. I've been into fountain pens (and inks!) for the past 2-3 years or so, and I'm really enjoying it! I've also been lurking around on the forum for quite a while, and will probably lurk for a while longer. I have to say, this forum has been one of the best resources for fountain pens and related topics! I especially love the Japanese pen forum, all ink forums, all review and comparison forums. It's great to be part of such a tight-knit community. People from all over the world, all ages and all kinds of backgrounds coming here for fountain pens!
  3. Thanks for having me. I come across quite a few vintage pens now and then and would like to learn more about them, specifically things I can't find doing research. Thank you again!

I'm So Glad I Found You Guys

I'm so grateful I found this organization!! I've been a fountain pen user for many years now. I have long preferred the Lamy pens as they write smoothly and the metal caps keep the pens from drying out. I recently received a cross century classic and really love the slimness of it. I have used dip pens as well as cartridge pens. Nice to meet everyone. Stef from PA

    Hello From Iowa

Hello from Iowa. I'm knitmo. I have been using fountain pens in my daily life for the day-to-day life of a grant writer, wife and mother. My kids have the fanciest notes for school! I love blue ink and tend to gravitate toward my Lamys and TWSBI vac-mini as my most grabbed pens.

    New Fountain Pen User

Hello my name is Diego and I'm from the greater Los Angeles area in California, US. I've been using and buying fountain pens since January and in that time I've taken quite an intense plunge and fallen hard in love with the art. I have for the last 5 years studied Palmer Method cursive handwriting and taught myself how to write in mirror image with my non-dominate hand. For the last 3 of those years, I've began teaching others how to develop ambidexterity through penmanship in the classroom at my old University, and at a couple prisons in the Southern California area. I absolutely love handwriting and fountain pens have come into my life at just the right time. I am also a practicing artist, so fountain pens have allowed my to grow and evolve my body of work. I'm excited to meet others with my same enthusiasm for fountain pens, my girlfriend just doesn't get it... yet! I'm not sure if it's allow but if anyone wants to connect more regularly you can find me on instagram: dieyen_dualpen or you can check out my website dieyen.com I'm going to do my best to be active on these forums! Look forward to interacting with all of you! Best, Diego

    Hello!

Hello all! My name is Allie and I am relatively new to the fountain pen world and quickly becoming an addict. I had a fountain pen when I was a child, but when the cartridges ran out, so did my fun. I have rediscovered them now and am venturing into different filling systems and bottled inks. I look forward to learning about this hobby from those who have more experience than me.
  9. Hello, my name is Justin and I've been a fountain pen user for 2 days. I'm a Marine Biology graduate student in California and two weeks ago I saw a classmate using fountain pens; we talked about it, I wrote with one for a little, and then I was hooked. The next few days I fell down a deep, dark hole known as YouTube (especially the Goulet Pens channel) while researching fountain pens. Then I made my first order, which arrived yesterday: Noodler's Black, Jinhao x750s Matte Black and Shimmering Sands with medium nibs, and some ink syringes for mess-free refilling. I figure that I'll either switch out one of the medium nibs for something unique like a flex nib or I'll leave mediums on both pens and use different colored inks in each. So far, I really like the way the x750 writes. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to find that some of the value-priced notebooks I use for school handle the wet x750 nib quite well without feathering, with little ghosting, and with no bleed through. I'm still planning on ordering some fountain pen-specific paper to use for journaling and penmanship practice. I am still waiting on my second order to ship via Amazon: a blue Lamy Safari EF nib with converter and a green Pilot Metropolitan F nib. It should be arriving by Friday of this week. I can't wait to try them out! My extensive blog-reading-and-You-Tube-sleuthing mania during the last week guided me in selecting these three pen models as a beginner fountain pen user. I'm not sure what I am looking for in a fountain pen though, so I figured that different pens and different nib sizes was a good place to start. I look forward to this new hobby and all the people, pens, papers, and inks I get to meet along the way. Nice to meet you all and thanks for stopping by.

    Hello Fpn

Hello! I started in fountain pen collection 1 year ago and looking around I found this incredible site. This is a great place and wonderful people. Have nice pens!!

    Hi! From Sunny Italy

Long time fountain pens lover and ink addicted. After using many times FPN for my research I thought it was time for me to share and contribute. Hope you'll enjoy your 'Inkdrinks' as I do.
  12. Howdy, I have been a member since 2014, but just now read the rules for this site. I am a poet, composer, fiber artist, and former computer security geek. I love to write, and I love to write with fountain pens. I have been using cheap fountain pens since elementary school. But in the 1980's I discovered Waterman and Parker pens. I have a tiny fountain pen collection now. Waterman (set with Rollerball pen, paperwork and cartridges but, alsa, no box ),Parker,Staedtler Calligraphy set, 2 vintage Schaeffer's, a ton of nibs and a few dip pen holders. I aspire to find a vintage 1970's Lamy 25P German fountain pen that works. I like to write and do calligraphy in my art journals and bullet journals with fountain pens. Is anyone here using fountain pens in their bullet journals? Which waterproof (international standard short) ink cartridges do you like? Any inks that don't bleed through? I keep my fountain pens in a vintage Parker Sherman cigarette box that I found in an antique store... So glad I found FPN! Peace, LuLu
  13. A little bit about me: I'm a freshman college student in the pacific northwest, taking prerequisites for electrical engineering courses. I've always been interested in how things work, as far back as i can remember ive always been taking things apart, trying to figure out how they work. I guess that leads to the reason I have so many hobbies, and why I guess you could say I enjoy going the more complicated route when it comes to most things. Some of the hobbies, or I like to say addictions that I have been pulled into are, Mechanical Keyboards (Building custom boards for myself and others, I strive to try out all of the switches available and all of the rare ones that are no longer produced), Ham radio and radio communication (I love being able to make direct point to point long distance communication with no other infrastructure, Though cost prohibits me from having nice HF gear to make long distance contacts, so i stick to local VHF UHF stuff), Office supplies ( The precursor to my fountain pen addiction), And obviously Fountain Pens just to name a few. Being a 20 year old full time college student that just does things on the side to pay my way I can only get so far into any of these hobbies that have the potential to be prohibitively expensive. But I don't let that stop me. Enough about personal stuff, more about what really matters, fountain pens: I really don't remember what caused the fountain pen bug to bite me, it may have been interest from looking at some of Massdrop's offerings, or even a random Reddit post that made its way into my google news feed. Regardless of what it was, I started to look into it with a bit of curiosity, and was almost instantly hooked after watching many videos on you tube from Goulet Pens, The pen habit and a few other individuals. I know everyone has there own reason for getting into this or already being in this "Hobby" though for me, as I mentioned I usually do prefer to take the more complicated route if it leads to a more enjoyable outcome, So the fact that there are so many different experiences that are possible through fountain pens, with various inks, colors, nob types and sizes really appealed to me. Along with non-dispoability aspect, being someone that strives to be an engineer, and someone that just really appreciates efficiency, I hate the disposablity that modern consumerism has caused with so many products, dont get me wrong, i love buying something new, but i hate throwing out something that is perfectly good still, or being pushed into using disposable products when there are longer lasting non disposable alternatives. I could rant about that for quite awhile but i already feel like i'm making my introduction post too long. My First Pen: My first fountain pen purchase was a medium nib Pilot Metropolitan and a bottle of J. HERBIN POUSSIERE DE LUNE, It was cheap and i really like neutral purples colors. Right off the bat there were things that i disliked about my choice. The ink, though having a nice color, was not saturated enough for me, i really enjoy heavily saturated inks. And for the metropolitan, it showed me that i prefer fin nibs, though they do not wrote as fluidly, i like nice, sharp lines, though i'm sure if i improved my not very good handwriting i would be able to more comfortably use medium and bold nibs. I also really disliked the squeeze type converter, though I did not enjoy my first combination of pen and ink, it was enough for me to know that I really wanted more. My " Next Level Pen": As soon as i had a little extra money burning a hole in my pocket I went in search of my next pen, really being set on a clear demonstrator I looked at what affordable options i had and went with what for me was an obvious choice, the TWSBI ECO with a fine nib. I really enjoyed the fine nib, and the large ink capacity, along with it being a clear demonstrator. At least with the J. Herbin ink i had an issue with the pen periodically " burping" all over the page i was writing after two or three pages, after talking to customer service at TWSBI they put a slightly drier feed unit in my pen and sent it back to me, after that I have had no issues with the pen. Though i immediately wanted another ink, I couldn't have a demonstrator and only one color of ink. I ended up buying a bottle of Sailor Storia Night, which is a nano pigmented blue ink, i really enjoy the way this ink looks on paper and the way it behaves, despite that it is slightly harder to clean out of my ECO. Impulse Ink and Pen Purchase: A couple months ago i got that urge to buy another pen, and maybe some more ink. I had been fairly interested in the Pilot Vanishing Point. After spending some time figuring out how i was going to justify and afford to purchase a Vanishing Point I found that there is a Stainless Still nibbed version available for the Japanese market that is, at the time of purchasing about $40 USD cheaper than the cheapest gold nibbed version I could find. Even after the cost of having it shipped to me. Not having tried a gold nibbed pen, gold vs steel really is not a big factor for me when purchasing a pen unless the gold version is only marginally more expansive. So i ended up purchasing the Vanishing point in the find steel nib option, and it is so much finer than the fine nib in my ECO, i was aware that Japanese fine nibs are more of an extra fine compared to European fines, but I was pleasantly surprised at how big the difference really is. So far I am really happy wit the vanishing point and it is my daily driver for taking notes in class. At the same time I also purchased a number of Iroshizuku ink samples, and have mixed feeling about them, I love the way that they behave, but i'm not a huge fan of some of the color's. Though I was incredibly happy at the result of mixing about 50/50 Murasaki-Shikibu to Fuyu-Syogun, it ended up being a slightly more vibrant, saturated color than my J. Herbin ink. As for paper what i am using right now is higher end HP 34lb non-coated copy paper that i print either lines on, or dot grid templates onto for various class notes. And Black n Red notebooks for my Journal.
  14. Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa. I purchased my Mont Blanc No 149 Meisterstuck in France in 1976, 40 years ago, and (besides one repair) it has given me exquisite service throughout this time. The ink flows like a stream of thought, and the flexible18k gold nib enables one to practise calligraphy writing if one so chooses. Now there's a hairline crack in the nib holder which is causing a slow leak and my fingers get discoloured. See photo. MB say I must pay the service fee. My contention is two-fold: 1) that this fountain pen came with a Lifetime Warranty (admittedly which I no longer have), and that 2) such a hairline crack is an inherent fault which a world class brand (such as Mont Blanc) should repair at no charge. Have any Mont Blanc owners had a similar experience? If so please advise.
  15. Hi to everyone, Let me introduce myself (I apologise if my English isn't as perfect as I wish, actually is my 3rd language - Basque, Spanish and... English). Ok, My nick-name's Nonnonba, like one of my favourite graphic novels. I'm a super fan of Lamy and Kaweco, even if I also gave some Cross, Pelikan and Inoxcrom fountain pens. Speaking about inks, J Herbin's one are one of my favourite one, cheap, good quality. Ok, best regard from Gipuzkoa, my province.

    Hello From London!

Hello! My name is Michael, I'm an amateur calligrapher who is interested in scripts and writing systems that are non-Roman, particular Arabic, Japanese, Tifinagh, Syriac and Manchu. I work as the Turkish curator at the British Library, and am very interested in meeting others from around the world who are interested in non-Roman calligraphic arts, especially modern typographies. I've created a website with my work in both ink and clay. Have a look if you're interest! www.adventuresinscript.com I look forward to talking and collaborating with everyone, and learning a lot about calligraphy from you! Best, Michael
  18. Hi Fountain Pen world! I'm tinyaberration, female, from Manila, Philippines. I am an analyst by profession but I've studied art in college. I suppose I can claim I was born an artist but decided not to pursue it professionally. I've been recently bitten by the fountain pen bug mainly because of the inks! I've decided to join the Fountain Pen network to learn more about pens and inks. I am an amateur photographer, a painter (watercolor & gouache), and I also dabble in drawing and illustration (charcoal, soft pastels, graphite, and pen & ink). I own some drawing, writing, & calligraphy nibs and didn't know what to do with them. I've experimented with my nibs even bought glass dip pens to experiment with my paints and I've decided I need proper inks! This led me to different sorts of inks and eventually fountain pen inks! I have currently acquired the TWSBI Eco and Nemosine Singularity pens with M nibs (both demonstrators) as my starter pens. I hope to acquire more pens and inks in the future and I hope to learn and exchange ideas with everyone here.

    Hello From Socal

Hi everyone, I just joined FPN. Wanted to introduce myself. I am Landscape Architect and enjoy writing and drawing with fp. My first fp I got almost 30 years ago was Rotring calligraphy pen with fine nib. Loved drawing with that pen all day. I even got extra fine nib later. Then I got 2 fps around the same time in 1993 that I still have. One is Montblanc 144 with fine nib from my wife. I use MB burgundy red ink in it for plan checking. The other one is also Montblanc but 149 with medium nib. This is a special one for me because my father who has been a journalist for over 40 years handed this fp over to me. It's from around 1972. Still writes smoothly and I love it. Using MB jazz blue ink in it. Recently I purchased Aurora Mare fp with medium nib on ebay. I have not received it yet, but it is one of the pens I always wanted. It is pretty exciting. It is great to be able to join such a wonderful network!

    Hi From Germany!

Hello everyone, just signed up for the forum and thought I'd say hi! My name is Maren, im 40yrs and from Germany. I've been an admirer of paper and stationery as long as I can remember but only recently (re-)discovered how beautiful it is tomwrite with a fountain pen. I thinking haven't had touched one since I finished Uni 15 years ago... such a shame! I'm not a collector and I don't own anything special or expensive. Just 3 Lamy (Safari /AL star / LX) and a Kaweco Sport. I ordered a bunch of ink samples to find out which colors I like to write with and how different inks "feel". So much fun trying them! As for what I'm writing: I have a Moleskine planner, a notebook for lists, tracking things, notes etc. I like to write Journaling prompts to improve my writing skills and practise handwriting. And I'd love to correspondent with one or two pen & ink lovers from any part in the world (will have a look into the pen pal section of the forum!)

I love to learn about fountain pens and their history.

    Introduction

Hi there, I found this site by Google search and don't know much about the place yet! Anyhow, I signed up as I grew up writing with fountain pens only. And that means I wrote in all my exams thru' my undergrad at a furious pace with a fountain pen. So, FP is not for slow writers only. I started using a ball point pen in my adult age when started working, to make notes in rough places. Anyway, if I find some friendly touch here, I will hang around. My recent purchases were several cheap models from Pilot (Metropolitan, Prera, Varsity), Jinhow, Lamy Safary, etc.. I tend to buy cheaper pens so that it does not hurt losing them. And I do loose some. Both Pilot and Lamy write really smooth - EF nib for Lamy and F nib for Pilot. Thank you, Debasis
  23. Hello from foggy Surrey. I thought I'd say hi. I'm only just getting into collecting fountain pens (stationery and inks having been my thing so far) but spotted these forums and thought they'd be a useful sort of place as I branch out from my beloved Duofold and its oblique nib.

    Hello From Bucks County, Pa!

Hi all! I've been lurking around these forums since some time around the new year. I don't recall at the moment exactly how I stumbled upon fountain pens or what made me buy that first one back in January of this year, but I know that the Pen Addict website was perhaps the first indication I had that I was not alone in being a little obsessive about my writing instruments. About 6 months later, I've purchased over a dozen pens to test out various makers, styles, price ranges, etc. Then, this past month, I received my first vintage Esterbrook Dollar Pen. That's now like a whole new addiction. I purchased a couple of Richard Binder's books on vintage pens and pen restoration, and am falling pretty fast into the pit of vintage despair ;-P Sadly, there is not a single pen shop anywhere near my home near Doylestown, PA, which is shocking to me with so many artsy, bohemian, artisan mom & pop shops around, but it's true. The place often noted as the 'best' place is all the way in Philadelphia, and pens actually play second fiddle in the shop to cigars. I've wondered if anyone has ever tried to open a pen shop in this area, or if maybe I should Anyway, I'm glad to make everyone's acquaintance. My interests are fountain pens in general, their design, repair and restoration, and their use. I'm a left-handed overwriter who journals and writes for personal reasons pretty heavily. Though my current obsession is Esterbrook Dollar Pens, I love fountain pens in general whether they're old or not. I'm pursuing 'nibmeistering' as a hobby, so I can be seen bidding for large lots of pens and parts on ebay these days. I have a billion things to learn from everyone here. Maybe someday I can help out the way I'm sure some of you will help me. Thanks! brian

    Greetings From Texas

Hello, my name is Randy and I live in the DFW area of Texas. I found this site today while looking for advice on ink colors and prices and have been hooked all afternoon. Thank you for all of the great information that is stored within the forum, etc. As I have gotten older, I have learned to appreciate the smaller details in life and have learned to truly not sweat the small stuff. Taking time to write letters to my friends and family has really taught me to appreciate the things that I have learned to overlook over the years. I am still the odd guy out when it comes to writing with a fountain pen among my peers, but that has never stopped me from pursuing what I wanted to do. Take care.
