    Hello From San Antonio, Texas

Though new to the joy of writing with a fountain pen (less than a year), I am falling down the rabbit hole fast! I inherited my Grandfather's Parker Vacumatic and before investing in restoring it I decided to see if I'd even enjoy writing with a fountain pen. 19 fountain pens and 14 bottles of ink later, I'm now looking for a well-skilled, reasonably priced, vintage pen restorer who can return my Grandfather's pen to it's former glory. Recommendations, testimonies, and referrals are most welcome. Cheers!
  2. Dear all my name is Vivardo and I registered today at this forum. For some time I've been looking for the fountain pens I've had or met in my life, some of these more precious to me, others I've just used. Finally I'm looking for the ones I've always wanted but I could not afford when young. Most of these are used, and therefore they need a lot of care, I hope with the help of this forum.Happy Easter to you allVivardo

    Hello From British Columbia

Hello everyone! I'm very stoked to have found FPN. My interest in fountain pens began (and stalled) when I was a teenager and owned a set of Osmiroid pens - now long lost, sadly. Fast forward to when I inherited my mother's lovely old Waterman celluloid 301-V fountain pen (photo attached). I was very lucky to find someone locally who could restore it to working condition again. Since then I've accumulated a few other (used) pens - nothing fancy, but enough to make me curious, and (let's admit it) addicted. My first order from Wonder Pens in Toronto is on its way to me now. And so it begins... Anyway, this site looks fantastic and I'm excited to have discovered you all. No doubt I'll have many questions for you. Thanks in advance for your patience P.S. Somehow I locked myself out of updating my profile picture, so apologies for the silhouette. Maybe my first question is, how do I unlock it?

    Hello All

I'm new so I figured I would introduce myself and say hi. I'm relatively new to the fountain pen world. I recently rediscovered a Cross pen I had received as a gift a long time ago and it quickly escalated from there. I would say that my favorite pens so far are the Stylomine 303 and the Pilot Vanishing Point. Stylomine is actually my current pen obsession. I just love the accordian sac. Anywho, hello!
  5. Hey! So glad to be here! I was forcefully dragged into the world of fountain pens when I fell in love with a cheap Jinhao I got as a random gift. My father happened to have a few nicer fountain pens to lend me, and before I knew it, I couldn't write with a ballpoint anymore. The most annoying thing about it is that I really like inks, but I have no way to try any samples. That means a lot of researching before I buy any. Fortunately, I've been fairly happy with all my purchases so far, and that's in part thanks to this site. It's been my first stop when I'm searching for reviews and comparisons. So I've been looking around here for a while. Then I recently learned that, for this year's birthday, I'll get to import some inks I wouldn't usually be able to buy. I'm very excited, but having a hard time picking the colors. The brand I want is a little less well known, and it's been hard to find enough reviews. I thought I should make a post asking for help on Inky Thoughts... which was when I realized I didn't actually have an account here yet. I decided to correct that.

Hello, Greetings from Bahrain. I'm Vishnu Nair, working as a finance professional. My love for fountain pens started once I joined here for work, as I happened to see the collection of fountain pens that belongs to my Director. My collection started from Lamy Safari charcoal black and now I have around 20 FP's and 40 ink shades. Looking ahead for great tips and support from this forum. Thanks
  7. I've been collecting fountain pens for a little while now (couple months) and I've been going crazy for them. Started out with a Metro in F, was kinda unhappy with the fineness and capacity and ink leaking into the cap (still a great pen) and eventually upgraded to a TWSBI 580AL, anodized to Rose, in F. I like the Jowo nibs much more than the Pilot nibs - lot more smoother and broader. Now, I have a LAMY AL-STAR in Charged Green on the way (caught it on the 50% sale and it was already another 50% off, so I ended up getting it for roughly $13 all in.) I own a few inks, Noodler's Purple Wampum and Walnut, but I don't use them because they're ill-behaved in my 580AL on cheap paper. It's a shame too, they're pretty. I also have a bottle of Rohrer & Klingner's Scabiosa, which is absolutely wonderful and works on any paper, even getting a lot of shading out of it. Beautiful lilac.

    Hi :)

Hey FPN! I have been following this forum for the last one year, but I finally managed to make an account. I have a few pens Jinhao x750, x450, Click Neo Tulip, Dikawen 898, a Baoer and a few cheap Indian pens so I am not completely new to the hobby. Cheers!

    Hello From Central Illinois

Greetings from Central Illinois! I'm a new fountain pen enthusiast. I got into them recently when I found about 20 pens from the 50's and 60's that were from my grandparents. My grandma was a hobby calligrapher and I have become a calligrapher in my own time, so I am enjoying having this connection to her. They may have been pens that my aunts and uncles used when in school, though my guess is they were bought by my grandma to use (my father was the youngest, born in 1963, so they were likely bought around that time). I have Parkers, Sheaffers, Wearevers, and a couple of other brands.
  11. Hello, My name is Johane. I'm from a little bit all over the place, but mostly from New Brunswick Canada. Like my Acadian ancestors, I've lived a life of migration - though in my case it was usually due to employment rather than anything else. I'm very novice in the fountain pen world. I'm in the process of doing some research for buying a fountain pen as a gift for my husband. He has never had one before, but he has an appreciation for nice pens... I have previously owned a Sheaffer fountain pen some 25+ years ago, but it was scratchy and small, and it used proprietary cartridges only that were often difficult to find. Let's just say that it wasn't what I had in mind when I thought of a fountain pen. After years of moving it around from one place to another and never using it, I just chucked it and kind of gave up on having a fountain pen. Even so, my penchant for the versatility of fountain pens didn't die, especially in inks. Although I never used a fountain pen again, I continued to seek out uncommon pens but most especially uncommon pen ink colours - even if they were in the "typical" ballpoint or roller point pens. About a year ago a friend came by for a visit and showed me her nascent collection of fountain pens. To be honest, I was a little jealous. They were nice... But they're still impossible to find locally, so I didn't think much of it. Personally, I like to see & feel a pen in my hand. I have sensory perception issues, so it's hard for me to invest in something like a fountain pen bought online because it's such a subjective and personal item. We'll see how things go, in the meantime though, I appreciate being able to turn to this website for research & a lot of invaluable information. Thank you for being here. I certainly would have appreciated something like this all of those years ago when I had my first fountain pen! À la prochaine! Johane

    Simply, Hello!

Hello everyone! I'm Caterina, I live in Italy and I am as you can imagine a... Fountain Pen Lover! I am really proud to be a member of this rinomate Forum where I hope to expand my knowledge on fountain pens world! I'm not fussy about pens, but it's not that I like them all. In my opinion, a good pen must, first of all, write well and then be original! So I'm often selective and it takes me a while to choose a new fountain pen. I really like the Pelikan, like design and writing experience ... fantastic nibs! But in Italy, fortunately we can boast prestigious production companies like Aurora, Montegrappa, Delta... just to name a few. So I really appreciate Italian style! I have a passion for vintage fountain pens but for now still none! ( yeah, that's strange...). I also like Calligraphy and all its nuances, I delight sometimes with dip pen and ink ... I still have a lot to learn! Besides the Fountain Pens (this beautiful sport) I have some other hobbies, including Music: I'm a pianist. But since, here we talk about fountain pens ... I'll stop right away! And that's all ... I apologize for my English that I hope is grammatically correct. I have a good knowledge of English but I live in Italy and obviously, I don't have the opportunity to practice it often. Last summer I've been a month in Ireland ( wonderful Land!) to improve it ... I know, it's not much, but better than nothing! Caterina (MiraB)

    Hello From Minnesota

Hello - everyone! I've been lurking and stalking FPN for awhile, decided I really should register and participate at least a little bit. My name is Richard, I am an IT guy (I could tell you what I actually do, but it's boring AF, even to me), a small business entrepreneur and of course a fountain pen user. I recently started using a fountain pen again after a 20-year hiatus. Long story short, a nasty divorce upended my life, costing me a small but prized collection of pens in the upheaval. Pens got pushed waaaaay down the priority list. I don't know what prompted me to look at them again, but I was astonished to see that not only are new fountain pens widely available but very reasonably priced (in some cases) and old favorites have been finding their way back into use. And the inks! OMG! So many greats that I really want to try! Sites like the FPN did not exist in 1997 or at least I didn't know about them. I always figured I was the lone wolf weirdo who actually liked fountain pens and bottled ink. So here I am today, with freshly ink-stained fingers, making my introduction. To date, my collection is modest but growing: Lamy Safari Pilot Metropolitan Parker 21 Sheaffer Imperial (1965-70) Currently In Transit 2 Jinhao X750's for experimentation, I picked up a couple of Goulet's #6 nibs to use with them. The nibs are here, but the pens will be another week yet. I am absolutely in love with how nicely the Sheaffer writes, I picked up a converter for it and inked it with Diamine Green Black. I journal just about every day. I am one of those people who has an idea and if he doesn't commit it to paper it will escape and frustrate me when I try to recall it. I also frequently create to-do lists for myself. I look forward to reading your posts and for once, being able to reply and engage.

I'm located in Dallas, TX and appreciate the chance to connect with others around the world who enjoy the experience of these wonderful writing instruments. My main focus in joining is to listen, learn, shop, and share.
  16. Hi all, I'm new here, and newish to fountain pens. That is to say, any years ago I dabbled and was disappointed. Now I'm back and more knowledgable and know why it didn't go well back when. And disappointment is no longer my circumstance. Well, except for my wish for more time and money so I can learn and purchase and write and write and write. So very happy to be here! -gabaroo

    Hello From North Carolina

Hello from the land of barbecue and pine trees. Decided to register and say hello after reading FPN for some time. Recently got bit by the fountain pen bug again after a number of decades... Thirty years ago, when I was a kid, I thought they were the coolest things ever and I had a few Pelikan student pens I had picked up when in Germany... Fast forward to age 41. Having become Management in my career and having to sign innumerable things a day I decided to treat myself and pick up one of those Cross Bailey gift packs at Staples... Like a heroin junky, all it took was one taste and I was back to chasing the dragon. Apparently I have a taste for Parker pens (I keep finding and buying 21's & 45s) and sub $2 Chinese pens. Attached are my current work pens. The Parker has Diamine Poppy Red for correcting reports (I am a Luddite and do it on paper, can't proofread worth beans on a computer) and the Jinhao (omg, writes so nice for a buck fifty... And costs less than a ballpoint!) has Noodler's Black for signing stuffs. Not pictured is the "US Government" Skilcraft ballpoint in my ticket book.

    Hello From Kuwait

Dear All I am a humble collecter, lives in Kuwait. I already collect Pens, especially the MB Meisterstuck and StarWalker. However I start developed recently an attraction to Fountain pens espcially LE, Great Characters, and Writer Editions which I chose to ignore in the past. I am searching right now to buy those out of stock editions from these 3 lines but I have no information on what would be the fair prices for such pens. I found your forum rich with members with knowledge and experience that would be very helpful in my collection journey.
  20. My new boss always carries his Montblanc BP with him and I immediately was struck by the beauty in its design. After some research I found a good rate on a Pilot Sonnet RB and after using it for a couple days decided it wasn't for me, and thus began my adventure into the world of fountain pens. Fast forward a few weeks of obsessively reading through the FPN forums and watching Brian Goulet's videos (no relation, just a happy customer)—last night I received 16 ink samples, a Lamy Safari Petrol XF and a Pilot Metropolitan F. I already had a Muji FP and a glass dip pen lying around so that is where my collection stands currently. I immediately tested all the inks I received and have shared the results below (please excuse the poor penmanship, I have yet to begin the rigorous journey of re-learning cursive I plan to embark on shortly. http://image.ibb.co/cHR2xw/COLLAGE_1.jpg Unfortunately you cannot see the subtleties in many of the ink swatches due to my phone's potato-quality camera, but I was totally blown away by some, especially the Robert Oster inks. I will admit I was a bit disappointed by the Noodler's inks which everyone seems so fond of. I was excited to use them because of their "bulletproof" nature, but found the 54th Massachusetts and Bad Blue Heron particularly wet/runny. Is this a common complaint, or maybe it is just because I was using them with a glass dip pen and there wouldn't be an issue once I load them into a converter? One thing that exceeded my expectation was how easy it is to use the Muji pen as an eyedropper. No o-ring, no special lubricant/sealant, just pour in the ink and go—I didn't even have an eyedropper so I just dumped the ink sample right in! It probably only filled up the pen 1/3 of the way at most, and there have been absolutely zero issues, very pleased! So if you made it this far, hello, and thank you for all the knowledge and resources you have provided here! After just a few weeks I feel like I am already years ahead of where I should be and am excited to jump into this hobby headfirst. Ultimately, I would love to master calligraphy to the point that I can incorporate it into my art and professional life as a graphic designer
  21. Hello pen folks, I am from Calcutta, India. I have been using fountain pens for 17 years only. Most of them have been cheap Indian pens and only in the last two - three years have I forayed into the world of Western pens, which in return have pretty much broken the bank for me, So nowadays, I am practicing the art of holding back and have been waiting for the delivery of two custom pens from two different pen-makers. I have been a frequent visitor of this forum and finally ended up making an account last week. Hopefully, it would be a pleasurable experience here. A sneak peek into part of my small (?) collection.
  22. Hello, I am became interested in fountain pens when I was given a Pelikan 400NN that had been passed down through the family. I recently picked up a Lamy 81 (that needs some work) and have slowly become fascinated with the history of fountain pens. I have joined FPN to learn more and be part of larger community. I tend to like older and quirky designs. I like the aesthetic, mechanical, and material qualities of pens as objects as much (or perhaps even more) as tools for writing. Live in the Washington/Baltimore area. Cheers, AD
  23. Hello everyone! I'm a new member here, I've just signed up a couple minutes ago. My name is Karla and I'm from Saudi but originally from the Philippines. I have a black Pilot Metro at the moment and a few unbranded and cheap fountain pens that I got back home. As of now I only have two bottles of inks, one Pilot Blue Black ink, and one Quink in Black. Planning to get more fountain pens and been wanting to get pens like Lamy and the likes. Hope to meet pen friends and explore the fountain pen lifestyle. x
  24. Hello! I learned about the FPN from The Goulet Pen Company on YouTube and thought Id dive in. Im specifically looking for resources on handwriting and calligraphy, but Ive loved fountain pens in general, and have a few nice ones. Though my favorite pen is the humble Lamy Safari, I do enjoy my Pilot vanishing nib as well. Looking forward to learning and discussing pens, ink, and writing with you all!
  25. Hello Everyone. I discovered this wonderful group and hobby at about the same time. I'm looking to improve my handwriting and learn about penmanship and fountain pens. It looks like a great environment here, and I look forward to learning and socializing with you all! - MG
