  1. i have loved pens since I was a kid. My work took me to many conferences with vendor shows and I loved getting free pens whenever I could. I would usually come home with a briefcase full and hand the ones I didn't love out at home and work. I played around with fountain pen for twenty years but felt if I spent $20 I was being foolish. This year I found the PenAddict podcast and I am hooked. Now I have: Sailor 1911 Standard - Fine Nib - Black; a TWSBI - Fine - Diamond; a Monteverde Mountains of the World - Fine - Mount Kilimanjaro; and my most recent purchase is a Lamy AL-Star - Fine - Black. At the same time I'm learning the link of new inks and a love for different papers/pads. Someone help me. I'm out of control. Ha not really but having fun.

    Ho From Lyon - France

Hi everyone. I was never interested in fountains pen before last year. For my new work as a maths teacher, my mom buy me a Lamy Studio. Since I'm in love with it ! I buy two ink : black & blue by Lamy and Lie de thé by J. Herbin. I write with Lie de thé every day for marking paper, taking note... http://i.imgur.com/WHYsbQn.jpg I'm also a big fan of my pencil Uni Kuru Toga. After read some ink reviews, and see some pen pics, I'm here... So after SF book, in-ear headphone + nomad dap, watch, calculator, knives, pc I'm on the bad influence of foutains pen... My banker hate you ! PS : I'm not fluent, so if something is out of sense, feel free to ask.
  3. Hello hello! I'm the new guy around here. Hey, StarrySirius. Thanks for pushing me over here (dunno how to link my friend but she'll find out). Thanks to her, I'm showing some great interests in fountain pens. For years, I have been a lurker on multiple sites, but I suppose I should be bold in introducing myself to you, the elders of the fountain pens, the wielders of the inky swords. Yes, I'm a poet, and I love literature as well as the tools that creates the lasting knowledge imprinted on a paper. Ah, but I fancy myself a renaissance man so I spread myself thin. If you wish, you can introduce me to a pen that is appropriate for a poet and one as a traveling pen. I'm considering starting up a collection of my own. Also, can anyone tell me how to add someone as a friend? Or is there a rule for a newbie like me to wait for a period of time before I officially befriend? I'm a shy person to begin with, but I'm working to overcome the challenge, hence the title of this post.

    Hello From Toronto

Hi to alll I discovered this site completely by accident whilst looking for a silicone grease to fix my slow-closing toilet seat! I couldn't quite fathom from the message its use in fountain pens. I have used fountain pens all my life, starting off in an English grammar school in the sixties. Now I teach Computer Engineering at the College level in Canada and people think I am somewhat anachronistic for using a fountain pen. I have a couple of Watermans that I use every day, one for blue but I get the most use out of the other one, which always has red ink! Somewhere lurking in the drawer is a faithful old Shaeffer Whitespot that served me for over twenty years, and another Waterman that was retired prematurely when the shaft broke at the thread. Also in the museum drawer is a vintage Parker that belonged to my Dad, probably going back to the 1930s or 40s. I am not knowledgeable enough to know the model names of these pens, the Watermans are all different designs, so I hope to learn more about them here, and maybe figure out how to repair the broken one. Even though a lot of my feedback to students is now done online, my creeping artritis indicates that I will be using fountain pens for years to come! One very useful benefit that I have found is the detection of fraud. I had a student once who forged my signature on a four lab reports to say that I had seen them, but he copied another student's signed lab reports with a Biro and made a very deep indentation in the paper, evidence enough to have him removed from the college! regards, NIgel Johnson Toronto

    Hello!

Hi everyone! I was referred to this network from another user, and I must say the amount of information available here is HUGE. I am relatively new to the fountain pen scene, and I clumsily record my adventures on my YouTube channel. I don't have a vast collection of pens, and the most expensive in my possession is a TWSBI 580 black and rose gold (which I absolutely LOVE). I'm really into finding obscure brands of pens from either small or international manufacturers, so if you have any recommendations, let me know! My current favorite ink is the Pilot Iroshizuku Tsutsuji, but I have also discovered J. Herbin's scented range which I think is also pretty awesome. Other brands I love are Noodler's and Organics studio (much sadness in the hiatus) In terms of nibs, I favor Japanese mediums and European fines. But I am always open to suggestion and recommendation, so if you guys have anything I need to try, drop me a message! Looking forward to meeting some new people! -Odin

    Hello From Tempe, Az!

Glad to join this active, interesting group! I first became enamored of FPs about 20 years ago, when I bought my first Waterman (a Laureat) upon graduation from college. My passion was recently rekindled, and now that I have the means to buy them, I have begun to accumulate pens. I'm not a collector, not yet - I'm not entirely sure what I like/love (or am indifferent to), so I am sampling both new and vintage pens, and have about 20 now. I'm also looking forward to learning how to service older pens. And I *love* paper.
  8. Hello hello. I have been a lover of pens and notebooks for many years, but I've always been... on a very limited budget. I've tried the cheap fountain pen / calligraphy sets in the past and was always disappointed. It lead me to believe that maybe I just didn't have the patience for them... Well, I've yearned enough and I finally bought a Jinhao X750 from Goulet Pens last week. I figured it was inexpensive enough that I wouldn't be angry at myself if I didn't like it... ... turns out, I love it. I'm already planning my next purchase. I'm just going to edge my way up the cost ladder slowly. Especially while I'm still making my measly barely-above-min-wage income. I'm just on the verge of 28 (Thursday), married, and live in a small house where my husband and I tend to our own vegetable garden and chickens. We have two dogs and four cats on top of that. (Hey, I work from home. I need the company!) I'm an aspiring author, lover of music (and involved in the local punk scene), and all-around crafty person. I'm generally not happy unless I'm making things. My new foray into fountain pen ownership has led me here and I'm excited to dig in.

    Hello From Canada

Hi everyone! I came across FPN a year or two ago and thought it was interesting, because I've always liked fountain pens but I've never written with them until recently. I've been trying my hand here and there and decided to get back into it today, and started tracking down the fountain pens I have. The thing that has kept me away was mainly that I am left handed, and that I was confusing calligraphy pens with fountain pens but I think I have that settled now I received a nice pen set from my Mom a few years ago that had two pens: one thick and one thin with gold plating on the outside. The thin one is sitting right here and it has the word SIGMA embossed on the edge of the barrel but I doubt it is a real SIGMA. I can't seem to open it and the ink may have dried. I also have a Platinum Preppy Pen (03) sitting here and while it is nice, it seems to bleed through all the papers I have, but I'm willing to keep trying. I've always prided myself on my handwriting and wanted to get in to calligraphy. I totally spent most of the day at work reading articles on penmanship and styles of cursive! I have a few pens laying around somewhere that I have to find but nothing impressive that other people seem to be posting. I have a tendancy to move from interest to interest but writing/calligraphy is something that I always come back to (and most things design related) so maybe I can make a home here for a little while. I saw some other threads where people were posting their samples, but I haven't seen any here, so I'll just link to one: http://flic.kr/p/i3aMrZ which you can view if you want. Looking forward to finding my way around this site. I have a cool business card from an amazing pen shop in Toronto and as soon as I find it I'll post something about it in the right forum if appropriate. All the best!

    Hello From So. Cal

Hello, I'm coming back to FPs after several years away. I got started on my grandmother's Schaeffer, and in college bought a Parker Sonnet. Looking to sell and replace the Sonnet (I got tired of the color, is that as ridiculous as it sounds?), as well as expand my collection.
