Hey FPN'ers, I just made a post over on the G+ fountain page about making a case for carrying around four ink bottles to gage response, and one of the users made a really interesting suggestion. He said he wouldn't want anything the size of a actual glass bottle, but would want something more like the Goulet ink sample vials. I think his suggestion is awesome and would work with the design I already make for my pen cases. What I would like to know is how many ink vials would people want to be able to carry around with them? Also, if you would want a different type of marterial from the fleece/raw silk combo? I also think it would be worth while, if there are more than two ink vials, to include a strip of vynal type material above the ink vials so that users could write the ink name on a small label and place it there and easily remove/apply a new label when they change their regular inks. What do people think? Would anyone be interested in that? Cheers, Phil

Hi all, I was wondering if there was any difference in charicteristics provided by the modern production plastic feeds and the previous ebonite feeds fitted to the MB 146 and 149 range? Is the difference in flow etc. noticeable? Many thanks, Badger

Hi everyone from Turkey. As you know I am new here I am looking for a pen for good signature and I meet FPN while I was looking at information about my research at internet. I have got a no idea about pens, nib, stub, ink etc. I want a pen for usually signing maybe sometimes take notes or writing. but my priority is signing. So what is the best pen (roller, ball-point, fountain) for you? Of course nib size, stub, oblique or straight etc. Thank you very much

Hi everyone, I'm wondering if this is ink on the section of a Montblanc Starwalker Rubber/Metal fp. I asked the seller specifically about it and he could not provide more direct info, as I was wondering why it wasn't simply removed before selling: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300919548876 If it is something that cannot be removed (Noodler's golden brown ink?), then it would be better to know about it sooner rather than later. And my second question has to do with authenticity--sorry to be sneaking this in, since I know many people are tired of answering these kinds of questions! any help would be much appreciated. Does it look real or fake? And this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261227387489?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 ? (I would get it in store rather than deal with ebay, but it's twice as expensive there...) In the first pen linked to, the rubber doesn't seem to have that nice textured/mottled look on the authentic Starwalkers, but it could be due to the bad quality of the photos. The seller provided a serial number for it. Otherwise, any comments or suggestions? I've looked at the guidelines on penboard.de...

This is my review for De Atramentis Vanilla. Before I start to talk about the ink I would like to apologize for the kitten paw prints on the review itself. On the other hand, my current batch of foster kitties highly recommend this ink This ink is just a wee bit dry with an extra fine nib, but I didn't notice that until I finished my written review.

After falling in love with several Diamine colors, I've decided to take the plunge and make a good sized order to Diamine in the UK. Being in the US, the markup on Diamine products is horrendous. For example, the best price I've seen in the US for 30ml amounts of Diamine ink is Goldspot, who charge $7 per with free shipping. If I buy direct, however, the cost falls to about $3.50 per with a shipping cost of $16 approximately. This puts the break even point for a UK order at 4-5 bottles. Obviously, it pays to bunch the purchase owing to the flat shipping rate from the UK and to buy more rather than less. My anticipated purchase size is about 12 bottles. After reading many reviews and trying some samples, I have my heart set on: Sargasso Sea Oxblood Eclipse Black-green Which leaves about eight bottles in play. I am hoping that the good people of FPN can help me fill out my order. I love deep, dark blues, shading, sheen, and non-smearing inks. Being a lefty, the last is an important quality. Slow drying is death to an overwriting lefty. I have a lovely Pilot Custom Heritage with a Falcon nib that works wonders at flex, so sheen is definitely a consideration. My plan is to choose based on the eight or so most popular responses. I am interested in the best in show, the Diamine colors that are exceptional examples of whatever color family they draw from. In the event of ties, I will favor greens, yellows, oranges, and browns, which I have fewer of than other colors. But, that being said, please give me your best in show opinion irrespective of my underrepresented colors. I will report back on what I order and provide some reviews on the ink forum as to my impressions. Thanks in advance for contributing to this most important project.

The colors you see on the screen are quite accurate. I was amazed but there you are. My scanner caught the nuances perfectly. I stand by what I concluded with: whichever one you choose, you will be right. They are both great inks. It's just that Noodlers is blacker, and that's a fact.

I know for certain that Montegrappa makes inks, but I've only seen ONE bottle in my entire life, and that is the blue that's sitting in my father's study (and won't let me use). I was wondering about the colour comparisons. Does anyone have a scan or a sample in comparisons to other standards like Noodler's? I've heard rave reviews from pen aficionados with a clearly disposable income and inky fingers, but a picture's worth a thousand words...

I have a Hero 616 pen and a bottle of their ink, not so sure what model since I just picked it up in China because of it's price, which is like a dollar for 15ml. I used it in my 616, which has a sac refilling system, and after the ink flows down into the bottom, the top turned orangish red from the remainder of the ink. Is that what black ink do or what?

http://i1005.photobucket.com/albums/af174/fabienne301/bswaninnafricanviolets_zpsa162ac92.jpg The scan is pretty good. Do you want to know how to make it? You have to make it yourself, you know...you can't buy it. :https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/221036-noodlers-north-african-violet/?p=2341429

Places That I Can Get A Good Range Of Inks/pens (Actual Places I Can Go To, Not Online Retailers)
circlepattern posted a topic in Fountain & Dip Pens - First Stop
I was wondering if there are any common places (EX: Certain mall shops, stores). I just dislike how in online store I can't see and feel everything and only have the pictures and occasionally video. Not to mention the anxiety attacks waiting for packages to arrive, so any store suggestions? -
I currently have a black Hero ink (pigmented) I got in China, some real cheap stuff. I figured black inks doesn't need to be too fancy and got a bottle to try out. It definitely have starting problem, this stuff is VERY black, not a hint of grey, so maybe dilution required?

I have always used ballpoints/gell/rollerball/pencils etc. I have recently started on fountain pens, but quickly found out, much to my surprise, that the ink does not dry instantly. I always rub the side of my pinky against my letters, making them smudge as I write out the line underneath the previous line. The only cure I found so far is to turn the paper slightly sideways or do double spacing or to just lift my hand off the paper as I write. All of those postures are either tiring, makes the writing ugly, very uncomfortable to use, or all three. Is there a proper way to use fountain pens?

Hey guys! So for those of you who like new ink, we may have something in store for you In addition to currently being carried by ISellPens.com, ZellerWritingCompany.com, AndersonPens.net, Bertramsinkwell.com, and Amazon.com, we now have our very own Laboratory Series available on our website here. Some info on these - these inks are all tested and high quality writing inks. The colors just were good enough to put out in our full line - yet! We made around 20 bottles of each color, and intend to gather feedback from these. As more and more feedback comes in, we are going to make the color a regular in one of our lines! We are even going to have some experimental inks available, with the first one being #13, which is a blue pigmented ink that is waterproof. We can't wait to start shipping these out to all of you! To keep up with the latest news on Organics Studio, 'Like' us on Facebook! Thanks, and feel free to contact us! info@organicsstudio.com Tyler

Hi FPN, I've encountered a rather unexpected problem with my Medium VP (modern) over the last few days. Sometimes, over the course of a page, the ink flow will dwindle until the pen stops writing. After retracting the nib and lightly shaking the pen a few times, it (quite literally) gushes back to life. I have Noodler's Black in the cartridge, and haven't yet heard of this ink being problematic to the VPs. I've flushed the pen in tap water for 12 hours, and filled it with MB ink, but I'm going to be needing a darker black (MB's is purplish) tomorrow onards. Any suggestions? Thanks! Pen&Design

Hi all. Hope I didn't mess something up! The background: I bought a Bulow x750 with the upgraded EF nib and 3 Chesterfield ink samples. First two inks were great. So today I put he obsidian black in the pen and now it is a very hard starter and skips a LOT. First 2 times I inked up the pen I didn't take the converter out, as the bottles were big enough to fit the nib in. This is a smaller bottle so I pulled out the converter to fill it. I cleaned the nib and section with warm running water and blew through the nib and section and everything seemed ok. Let it sit to dry for an hour, cleaned (drop of dish soap several times, clean water several times) and filled the converter and let it sit nib down 15 minutes to get some ink in the feed. Now its worse than the $4 pen I gave my daughter! SO...Did I break something (a seal maybe) when I pulled the converter out? Is it maybe just the ink? Did I mess up by blowing water through the nib? Anything else I can/should check? Both the other inks I have ran through the pen were great (Smoked Topaz and Emerald). I could leave the pen uncapped for 10 minutes, come back and just start writing again. Now if I look up for 30 seconds I have to draw 10-15 lines on the top of the paper to get going again. I'm no expert on pens or ink, but I do know I'd rather throw out the ink than the pen! I really like my pen...the way it used to write! Thank you for any help you can give a poor newbie!

I've been using Emerald for 6 months now. Shadow for 1 month. And just got my Demonstrator a couple days ago. I am loving the fountain pen community and everything about pens and ink thus far. The creativity and emotion and personalization that comes from using a fountain pen is absolutely amazing. I am glad there are others out there who feel the way I do! I had to give my first two pens names because they came from a kit, and thus do not have names. My demonstrator is by far my favorite, especially after I learned to open up the ink flow. It used to write slightly scratchy, but now that it's much wetter, it is much more pleasurable to write with. Have a look at my arsenal thus far, I hope to collect many different pens and inks. -Schellenberg http://i.imgur.com/e6NeU57.png
