  1. Hello! I've recently decided that I would like to begin crafting my own pens for personal use, and for sale. I know there are many levels of crafting from scratch to pen kits. I'd like to know where a good spot to start making wooden pens would be. I assume I'll need a lathe, drill press with a threading bit, etc. What else should I know, or are there any good videos to watch so that I can begin this new hobby? Kevin
  2. Hi Everyone, I'm a fledgling pen collector, and I recently took a risk at a local flea market: I bought an unmarked pen for $15. The pen has a really nice weight to it (1.2 oz) and it has a screw top and when the top is removed, it screws onto the bottom (see pictures). This makes me think it could be something special. But I can find no marking on the pen (nothing on the inside of the clip, either). Can anyone help me identify this pen? If you need any other picture angles, please let me know. Even if its nothing brand-name, it's still a pretty cool pen. Thank you all for your help! I appreciate you all!
  3. I got a couple of pens at the Brimfield Antique Market that are almost certainly cheapos, but they looked cool/interesting. One appears to be an older demonstrator, and the other is a mini that converts in an unusual way. Here's the two capped: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7370/9697208128_40b48ab571_z.jpg Uncapped: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2840/9697208530_fe61191de4_z.jpg The short one posted: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3778/9697208420_86dc5ef543_z.jpg The demonstrator nib: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3808/9697208368_45a7cf9540_z.jpg The short one's nib: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5526/9693979873_614c5ff192_z.jpg General description: The demonstrator has an international screw converter. The tip is unmarked, but instead of being tipped, the end of the nib is crimped to make the ball shape underneath. The plastic feels... older. Light and kind of cheap, more clear plastic toy feeling than resin-y feeling that I get from modern demonstrators, even the cheapos from China/India. The mini has "Iridium Point F-GERMANY" written on it. This is a very heavy, metal pen. The nib has a lot of flex to it, not quite as much as a Noodler's flex nib, but way flexier than anything else I have. Any help in narrowing down where they're from/how old they are would be appreciated I've been looking around for a while, and I've identified all the other pens I picked up, but these are still total mysteries!
  4. Hi everyone, I'm new to FPN and I'm definitely not a fountain pen expert. I prefer ballpoints (gasp) but I've had the good fortune of finding some Parker pens and I need help getting some information. I think their Parker 51's...? If you could provide any information as well as any advice for how to care for them, how to store them, etc. please let me know! Thank you! So here's Pen #1 Doesn't appear to be used; there's no ink inside the pen or anything. Bought it for $38 at a flea market (hoping that was a good deal!) Here's Pens #2-4 They have all been used before, but they still look really nice I bought the red and the black from the same guy for $1 each (yard sale) and the blue one for $20 (flea market) Right now I'm keeping them in a leather case originally intended for colored pencils (another yard sale find). Is that a good way to store them? Should I remove the ink when storing them? Let me know if you need another camera angle to help me. I love these pens and I'm so fortunate that I came across them. Great addition to my collection. Thanks for your help!
  5. Hello everyone, So as my summer vacation is almost at a close, and my travels abroad are sadly coming to an end, I've realized that I have enough left over spending money in my budget for a new pen! 76 dollars, which may not seem like much to spend on a pen, but keep in mind that my small collection is limited to pens in the Lamy Safari range. I've decided to go from small price range, to medium sized (40-70 dollars) with my new purchase, but I'm not sure what to get, and was wondering if you all could help me out. Some things to keep in mind: I'm a student, and would preferably like to tote this to school, so something sturdier would be preferable I have rather big hands, so id like something that can be comfortably posted A piston filler would be nice, but it's not necessary I've been considering the TWSBI mini, but I thought it would be better to see if there are other pens out there that may be better. Thank you for the help!
  6. Hi! I've recently found a box of vintage Eagle Pencil Co. Silversteel Pen nibs (E11). In excellent condition, in their original box. There are about 129 nibs in the box. Can someone please help me figure out how much they are worth and where I would be able to sell them? Thank you very much

    Sales Advice Needed

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice/help with thinning down my pen collection. I started about 20 years ago and had a focus on Montblanc and ST Dupont. I've thinned them down before by selling some of the pens that don't really fit what I keep on ebay. Those days I had a little fewer than 100 pens. Now I have over 250 pens and some really unique ones, too! Most of my collection pens have never been inked. For example, I bought the Montblanc Copernicus when it was released. I'm considering letting it go because of the amount of money tied up in it. I have two really unique ST Dupont pens - the Leroy Neiman Golf pens - the rollerball and fountain pen - number 001/400... first ones made! I bought most of my Montblancs at our boutique and ST Dupont between two authorized ST Dupont dealerships. These are 3 pens. I'm planning on selling about 100, many of my Pelikan, Visconti, and Loiminchay to name a few. I really let things go and want to reign them back in, free up some cash and purchase some that fit what we had in mind back when we started. If you have any ideas that can help us sell about 100 of them, I'd appreciate it. We can go ebay, but I'm not sure how cost effective it is anymore. Thanks in advance for your advice and help. Joe
  8. Does anybody know where I would be able to get Black n Red casebound, A4 sized, narrow-ruled notebooks in the USA? I can't find them anywhere! The wide ruled version is available everywhere, but the narrow-ruled one is nowhere to be found. Also, if you live in the UK and have access to these notebooks, I would be willing to pay or trade for you to ship me one if there are no US sellers. I could technically order off of UK websites that sell them, but the shipping they charge triples the cost for me.

    Leonardo "great Characters" Help

Hello! I have been desperately trying to obtain the Leonardo fountain pen, but I've been in an accident that has kept me from working for a while now. I'm a musician, and for a year I have been working on a piece of music dedicated to da Vinci and his work. Interestingly enough, the pen ties into the music perfectly. The piece will be premiered at the Boston Conservatory this year. All that aside, I'm in love with this pen and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on how to make something similar, find a good deal, or anything at all. Thanks so much! Kevin
  10. I am a bit confused. Are these the same size cartridges or is it they messed up with words? - One says "International Size" AND athe other one only says "Standard". No International anywhere... One is G302BK, the other G306BK I would very much appreciate information so I can stock on cartridges until I get a fine fountain pen that I can use with a converter. Is there a place where the length of the different sizes of cartridges is specified? I have seen lots of videos on how to use cartridges and converters, but I cannot find a single video where I could see someone measuring cartridges or explain the differences. I am solely interested on the "standard sizes", not proprietary cartidges. Once I can understand the sizes I can place an order. Thank you. I know I will have some answers. Thanks in advance!
  11. Heya guys. My name is Adrian, and I have recently (after getting a few pens from my dad) become interested in fountain pens. I have two Waterman pens, two Parker pens (one is not with me now, so no photo), and a 1924 Columbus pen. I would appreciaty if anyone can tell me names of these pens. Anyway, pictures ahoy! http://imgur.com/a/d7aug#UZKi0VG

    Identify The Parker

Let's play a little game I call "Identify the parker" (it's really just a nice way of me asking you to tell me what pen this is). If someone could identify and value this Parker pen, that would be much appreciated (I have another Parker pen that needs Identifying, so look at my created threads for that). Anyway, here are some pictures: http://i.imgur.com/RDDuwxC.jpg http://i.imgur.com/06p5YbS.jpg http://i.imgur.com/pNTE6vd.jpg http://i.imgur.com/2DRNRCG.jpg http://i.imgur.com/bdxKtQQ.jpg Thanks in advance guys

    Identify The Other Parker

Oops, I posted this the wrong place, please ignore it. Now, how does one delete a thread?
  14. Hello all! I received my Nakaya Neo-standard in Kuro-Tamenuri around 3 weeks back and I noticed that it wasn't as shiny as I had seen in the pictures. The shine isn't as prominent when compared to my other pens such as the Sailor 1911m, Pilot 92 (All black plastic). The Nakaya has a slightly dulled look - is this normal? Does it get shinier as time goes by? One thing I will say though is that I haven't seen any micro-scratches at all on the body - really quite impressive. The Nakaya & the Pilot. Hopefully you can see the pen on the right is shinier. Anyways, does anyone have any experience or advice about how would I go about polishing the urushi properly if that was at all possible? (I'm aiming for a mirror finish). Regular swiping with a cleaning cloth doesn't seem to help lessen the dull. Thank you!

First Vintage Pen - 146. Need Help!

I finally made the move to buy my first vintage MB - a 146. My pen has got celluloid body, yellow ink window, and telescoping piston. I hope I correctly categorized my pen as a vintage piece. I bought this pen at our community wide garage sale and paid a reasonable price for it. 146 and OM - is engraved on the turning nob (could someone tell me the dash after OM means?). The pen writes smooth and pretty flexible. The piston moves very smooth as well, as smooth as the new pen I bought about a month ago. However, for a pen that is at least twice as old as me, I do have a few questions. 1. The clip does not seem like the original clip. I tried to fit this clip on my classique sized rollerball, it seems a bit big. So which pen this clip should fit? Most importantly, where can I find a clip that fits the 146? 2. The cap rings are a bit loose. They tend to move around and up-and-down a bit. Any suggestions to take care of this issue? 3. From my research, the nib should be a bi-tone gold nib. However my pen has got 14C on it. But it looks like a monotone. When I look at this pen outside, I can see a hint of silver color. I would assume that the previous owner buffed the coating off. Can I conclude that the pen is an original pen instead of a franken pen? I have attached a few pictures. Sorry about my dirty patio table since our winter was just over. Thanks everyone in advance.
  16. Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to fountain pens (I only have 2), and I was wondering how you guys carry your pens. Personally, my wardrobe doesn't include many shirts with pockets so that's out of the question for me. I've been carrying my pens (one at a time) in my pants pocket for about 4 months now; I simply slide the pen in and clip it on the pocket (making sure the rest of the picket is empty so that it doesn't get scratched), but I've seen many people on here strongly discouraging this and say that one should only carry the pen in an inside jacket pocket or a shirt pocket. Well, like I said before, I don't have shirt pockets, and I'm a student so I don't have many occasions to where suit jackets or blazers, what ways to carry my pen does this leave me with? I've considered purchasing a leather slip, but even if I did where would I then place the slip? Perhaps anyone that's faced this dilemma before can help. Thanks!
  17. Hey there, I just bought a Lamy Safari for everyday use in school and all of that fun stuff. However, I really want to learn more styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. From what I've heard: I need a pen with a flex nib. My question to you all: 1. Which pen do you recommend that has a good nib with good flexibility for Copperplate? Dip pen or fountain pen? Please be specific I am a student, so I have given my self a budget of 100$. Thanks In Advance, mountainrider
  18. Hello, Forum! I have been using cheap Chinese fountain pens for over three years (and also a Lamy Safari) and they aren't cutting it for me anymore. I REALLY want to buy an amazing fountain pen that will become a life long writing instrument. The only problem is that there are way too many pens to choose from ;~;. Some specifications: A sexy nib, a marble/ resin look, and also it can't be one solid color. I apologize for having to make a selfish first post, but I feel that this is an unbiased place.
  19. I am LOVING collecting vintage fountain pens. I just started about a month ago. As of now, I have a(n): Parker 45 ($25)Esterbrook J ($25)Parker 51 Special ($50)I would love to expand my collection, but I do not have the money to buy the very sought after pens that cost $70+ (college). For me, it will be very interesting to collect the pens that aren't as wanted but are still just as good as their more popular counterparts. I don't know anything about brands and what there is available. Any suggestions, or a push into the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

    Parker Im Vs Im Premium

Hi, fountain pen newbie here! Please could someone tell me the difference (except for finish) between the Parker IM and IM Premium pens? The two I am looking at in particular are: http://www.parkerpen.com/en-US/im-premium-matt-black-fountain-pen---medium-stainless-steel-nib and http://www.parkerpen.com/en-US/shop-online/im-black-fountain-pen---medium-stainless-steel-nib These are both the same price on Amazon so I want to know what makes the Premium premium! Many thanks in advance, Tom
  21. I'm new and have never used a Fountain Pen before. I have just received the JinHao x750 from The Goulet Pen Company and am using both medium and fine nibs. I'm using Sheaffer ink. Anyways, my problem is that I seem to can't fill my converter with ink. It just arrived in the mail and is slightly cold. Could that be the reason why? I'm doing the same exact thing as everyone is in videos that I have watched and everything. I only have a 50ML bottle of ink, so I have to tilt my pen slightly to get the entire filter in. May that be a problem? Granted that I only tried about 4-quick times, I just may need to take my time. But I'd love to get writing with this pen. Are there any easy ways I can fill my pen? Why can't I fill my pen? Am I missing something? Thanks!
  22. Well its my first official post! I am coming here for some help on a newly acquired pen. I purchased this one at Scottsdale Pen and Knife. Its a blue and yellow Monteverde Regatta. The shop owner explained to me that this pen was in a Doctors pen collection and was taken care of. I saw it in the bottom of the showcase and told him i would buy it without even trying it. its that beautiful (to me of course). Anyway... he didn't have any other information on the pen. I got it home and inked it up with Waterman Turquoise in a Monteverde converter that I got with the Intima I also bought. This pen is really smooth. like unbelievably smooth. I was wondering if there are any other Regatta owners out there that can help me out with more information on this pen. I have no idea when they were made, how much they were new, what nib size it has, or even if they are all this smooth. I would love to buy another one (or 12 lol) after the experience I have with this one. Thanks! JM

    Light Blue

I'm looking for a light blue. Something that is not turquoise or at least doesn't have a green shade to it, but blue. Something like baby blue or sky blue, or just like blue. Any recommendations?
  24. Hello all, So this is my first post. I bought a pen from Amazon's discount site, MyHabit, almost a full year ago now. I tried to find the correct cartridge for this pen. I tried two or three different cartridges to no avail back then. I gave up and frankly do not remember what cartridges I tried. The little empty sleeve that came inside the pen says "Lady Austria" on it. And MyHabit listed it as a Montegrappa pen, but it does not particular look similar to anything in their line from what I can tell. It should be noted that I am very new to fountain pens. The pen in question is my first purchase and I gave up for awhile after this. But I ended up buying a Lamy Safari with a Z24 converter and Waterman Intense Black ink at the end of this past January and I like it. So thought I should see if anyone knew the ink cartridge or converter for this "Teorema Lacca Boreaux" pen.
  25. 2nd Post! Again, not sure if its in the right section so apologies, but over time ill learn:) Just wondering, I've been after a Montblanc Noblesse, one of the vintage ones, ( think they are also known as Slimline's or Quickpens, for a while now, but everywhere i seem to look they are costing over £100. Speaking to someone today and they told me they should be relatively cheap to pick up, but I'm yet to find one of sub £100. Anyone have any suggestions on where i can get one? Thanks. Tom
