  1. I just did a YouTube review of the fountain pen I probably use more than any other for drawing, the Duke 600 which is a very inexpensive pen. I got mine on Amazon a few years ago, and it does a great job of filling in areas. It works almost like a brush but it gives me more control. It isn't just that the nib is bent (or Fude). The nib has a little hood that acts like a reservoir and makes sure that it gets enough ink, otherwise it would go dry. It is really an amazing bargain. It is a bit heavy, but when it is posted it is well balanced. The shape is a bit strange--a sort of hour glass figure. It is made of metal, which I usually don't like it, but it feels nice in my hand. The section is also metal, but it is engraved with a pattern so that it is not slippery. It posts very securely--so securely that it makes me wonder why other pens are not designed in the same way. It has a converter that has a little spring in it that seems to help with the ink flow. The only negative for me, is that this converter does not hold a lot of ink given how much ink the pen puts down. I wish someone would develop a similar pen with a big ink capacity. I need to make time to see if I can use the nib on an eyedropper pen like an Opus 88 or a vacuum filler. I wish someone would copy the design and make such a pen! You can see my review here:

  5. As you can see, we have some colorful Jinhao Shark pens here. Amaze your friends! Terrify your enemies! One lucky FPN'er will get all of them. Four fude, one fine point. All come with converters, and they write very well for such a ferocious, yet comical-looking instrument. CONUS only, and sadly eliminating anyone who has 'won' from me before. As usual, the Eeny-Meeny Inator will be used to select the winner. Thanks for looking.
  6. From the album: Nib comparisons

These were done using the black-coloured steel nibs to suit the HongDian model 1850 Black Forest. I can't tell you whether the performance and differences mirror that in the silver- and blue-coloured nibs for that model. By the way, two things I've since learnt from first-hand experience: the cap on the HongDian model 1850 is not very good at preventing ink evaporation; this holds true for both the Black Forest and Birch Forest variants; and Lamy T53 Obsidian ink is very nasty stuff once dried out in a pen! Nib Bent On Purpose

This is a brand new pen. It isn't damaged. That is how it is supposed to look. It's a Duke Guan Yu Calligraphy Pen with an extra long tip. Gives new meaning to the "bent nib" or fude category. It can lay down a 4 mm line and is good for lettering as well as sketching. It isn't a general writing pen, but it can be tamed to write a 1 mm line. The overfeed keeps ink flowing nicely. Cool pen, eh?
  10. So, this is an interesting pen. I mean, for <$5 shipped (ebay), there is nothing to complain about at all. I had to seat the nib/feed a little tighter in the section, and other than that, it's surprisingly nice for the price (like everyone says about them)... But what in heaven's name am I going to do with this pen? haha Once I figure out a writing style that works consistently with it, I can see it being fantastic for greeting cards and envelopes and fancy things like that... but for the most part? I suspect I will end up putting a "plain" #6 nib on it, so it gets used more than twice a year. Anyone else using one of these fun things on a more frequent basis? I've seen that some folks use them for sketching, but I think that would drive me insane until I get a better handle on controlling the line width. Excuse the handwriting... it looks absolutely terrible when I try to use my normal writing style. The fact that I'm left-handed doesn't help, because the nice sharp 'swoosh' effect a fude achieves at the end of strokes in Chinese calligraphy is pretty much limited to right-handed use.
  11. Hello fellow denizens, I have a hankering on to try a fude nib. For those who aren't familiar with this, it's like a regular nib with the last 2-3mm of the tines bent up at around 40 degree angle. Anyhoo, does anyone have any recommendations of where to start? The Parkablogs guy - Teoh Yi Chie - reckons that the Sailor naginata fude de mannen (now there's a name to juggle with!) is an expensive option, perhaps too expensive, and gives a couple of other options from Chinese brands Duke and Hero. Another option is a modified Jowo #6. If anyone has one of these a heads-up on what it's like would be appreciated. So, your thoughts and discussions are much sought here.

    Fude Nib For Dip Pen

Does anyone know of a UK source for a fude type dip pen nib? Thanks Alex
  13. As stated in my siggy line, I collect fude-nibbed fountain pens, so when I learned of this model I was eager to try it. And as I had also found one of my first (long-gone) inks ever, I was really set to go. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7405/10743006043_dc229463ef_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2887/10742725276_2828846c47_z.jpg This is a fat, thick and heavy pen, and its plastic section has some texture, which makes holding it somewhat easier. As noted, the pen is back-heavy when posted. But it's still writing! I don't know whether it's the massive fins on the feed or because the section spent some time sitting in the bottle soaking up ink before I fished it out and stuck in a partly-loaded cart. Both pen and ink are from fleabay. The pen came from China quicker than the ink came from England, lol. Any other fude fans out there?
  14. At least, I classify these as beginner pens! From left to right: Leonardo 'Silver Check' fude-nibbed pen that takes standard international cartridges or a converter, light weight. If you were ever curious about writing with a fude, this is your chance to find out. Duke 2008. Ribbed silvertone barrel and red cap with cloud design. Dryish, medium-fine nib. C/c filler. Xfountainpens/Bulow/Jinhao 450 in soft brushed gold. Wet, wet, medium nib. Heavy. C/c filler, shaped section. Reply with a bit about yourself and pen likes and dislikes. Will ship to CONUS only, and announce winner at random. Thanks!

    Fude Vs Arabic/architect Point

I was wondering, while scribbling with my custom Arabic nib, what would be the difference, regarding the line produced, between an Arabic/Architect point and a Fude nib... They look exactly the same to me on screen (somewhat the opposite of an italic), but since I don't own a Fude nib, I can't actually tell the difference in person, so I thought of asking here....so, is there any palpable difference between these two? Thanks!

    Duke D2-2

The Duke D2-2 is a pen that comes with two nib sections, one M and one fude, also included are converter and a two-pen-case. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/Anoia_photos/duke2_zps3fc236bd.jpg http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/Anoia_photos/duke1_zps4f6633fd.jpg Appearance & Design: 8/10 cigar shapeblack with silverplastic (shiny)grip is matt and has rubbery feel to it Construction & Quality: 7/10 big, heavy and solidcap is really snug and needs some force to remove/place iton one side it’s a chinese pen, so I don’t expect miracles from it, but on the other side it’s not like a Lamy Safari is that much more expensive and those are solid writers Weight & Dimensions: 7/10 weighs 38 g with inklength:13,8 cmwidth: 1,3 cm in the middleabout the size of a Lamy Safarisuitable for people with larger hands Nib & Performance: 2/10 comes with M nib and fude nibM nib on the fine sideneither is scratchynibs are very bigM nib is very dry and doesn’t lay ANY ink on the paper if no pressure is applied Filling System & Maintenance: 8/10 international cartridge/converterconverter is includeddid not disassemble, so can’t say anything in regard to that Cost & Value: 5/10 cost ~20$2 pens in 1would be good value, if it weren’t for the dry M nib Conclusion: 4/10 Somewhat a daily writer for me. Currently I use it as the second pen for taking notes. I have a two colour system, where I write the important/basic facts down with one colour (usually a darker blue) and use a second colour for short explanations or examples (usually a turquoise). The pen looks and feels very nice, I especially like the rubbery grip section, it’s not rubber, but plastic, but it gives you a nice grip. BUT: The pen is so dry that I have to apply pressure for the ink to flow and can only write a couple of sentences with it, which gives it overall a lower score. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/Anoia_photos/dukeD2-2mnib_zps7820fd7f.jpg http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/Anoia_photos/dukeD2-2fudenib_zps0426bd80.jpg Not a fan of the fude nib, for me stubs are the better choice.
