  7. Hi all, I have noticed that almost every shop near where I live has now stopped selling postcards. The ones that do still sell them seem now to only sell postcards that are very thin and flimsy, and are printed on card-stock that is very ‘glossy’ and smooth. Such cards are just-about usable if one wishes to write on them with a ballpoint (😱), but are pretty-much useless if one has taste and discernment and wishes to write with a fountain pen. I have, therefore, started looking online at the ‘box sets’ of postcards that are sold by various companies/museums/stores in order to cater to the ‘postcrossing’ community. Obviously, many postcrossers are going to be content to use ballpoints for their hobby, and so I expect that many of the box-sets of postcards that are aimed at that market will be as worthless to fountain-pen-users as are the majority of the few ‘tourist’ postcards that one can still buy today. I personally live in the UK, and I am thinking of ordering one or more of the postcard sets from the V&A museum in London, or the Bodleian Library in Oxford, or perhaps from other similar institutions here. But that’s just me. My personal interests are parochial and trivial in comparison to my overall goal in starting this thread, which is as a future reference source. I am starting this thread in the hope that those of you have managed to find box-sets of postcards that are printed on fountain-pen-friendly card stock - no matter where in the world - will list them here for future reference. Please therefore do add any fp-friendly postcard box-sets that you have found, and where (country and/or shop/website) you managed to find them. My thanks to you in advance for your answers. Slàinte, M.
  8. I would love a list of FP friendly products targeted towards the UK. All I can get locally (East Yorkshire) at present is Clairefontaine and Oxford Optik. The Clairefontaine paper is in Rhodia & Europa pads as well as under their own name. Some Supermarket chains do get Clairefontaine pads as part of a 'back-to-school' range in August and I am also hoping for a repeat in December/January '20 as I scored Clairefontaine A5 Koverbooks silly-cheap. Wilkinson (Wilko) used to have Silvene Memo books and exercise books cheap but do not do them now. It's all their 'own' brand light-weight paper, 60 or 70gsm that I know nothing about. Get a truly bad pad and you get bleed-through affecting two sheets & just marking the third sheet.
  9. Hi guys, I'm in the market for paper of consistent stock that is suitable for both printing AND writing with a fountain pen (think marginalia, forms, and ink reviews). Since joining the forum I've heard lots of rave reviews for that HP laser paper, but unfortunately, that won't work because I can't get it: it's not available in local shops, and I can't seem to find it online unless maybe it's from the US, and that won't do because it's bound to cost a ton to ship (paper is heavy, maaan). So: what other papers with similar traits can you think of? (Double the points if you know for a fact they're available to the european market!) Here's what I need: - A4/letter - printable (inkjet - doesn't have to be fantastic, printing quality's where I can compromise) - FP frisky (there's FP friendly, and then there's FP frisky...geddit?) I like mine smooooth (don't care about drying...love Clairefontaine & Rhodia) and heavy (at least 80gsm) - white (for the odd ink review). No need to go OTT and make it blinding white, but still, white, not cream/ivory. Usual bribes refreshments and/or rewards available - cookies/bacon/booze, kittens/puppies/wabbits etc
  10. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has tried the Word. notebook? I found a mention on the-gadgeteer.com, and took a look. Similar to Field Notes, but with different covers and paper. Designed and made in the USA. The pages are set up for a unique planning system. Take a look. I contacted the company to ask about the FP friendliness of the paper, and they responded immediately saying "Not yet, but coming soon!" So, worth keeping an eye on. http://the-gadgeteer.com/2014/05/28/word-notebooks-are-feeling-a-little-blue/ http://www.wordnotebooks.com/ Hey, what do you know? Here's a review. http://www.gourmetpens.com/2013/05/review-word-lined-notebooks-swedish-camo.html
  11. I like to use a writing pad while I work at my computer, letter size, legal style, etc... but most of what I find at Staples and such places are not at all FP friendly. At the nicer stationery and paper stores, there is "letter-writing" stuff, but not good pads for daily use. Any suggestions? Should I try AMPAD, or Levenger? Thanks very much. Thank you.
