  1. Hello, I'm currently new to fountain pens, but I was definitely looking into buying my first pen, which I was hoping wouldn't be disappointing. Because of this, I was just wondering if the community had any suggestions on a decent entry level (I'm hoping to purchase the pen for less than $50) fountain pen. So far I've heard that the lamy safari and waterman phileas are quite popular, but I can't seem to find a waterman phileas for less than $50, and a large portion of the reviews I've read on the lamy safari have suggested that the pen runs into problems quite quickly. If anyone has any suggestions on a pen, or if they have experience with these pens (you own one, or you know where to purchase it) would you mind giving me some advice? Thanks everyone!
  2. Lately I've been looking for a new EDC pen fitting the criteria below and I thought a lot of other people probably are looking for EDC pens as well so I guess this thread could be suggesting EDC pens to people with a $300 budget? What I'm personally looking for: -20g or heavier -smooth nib -either really fine like a pilot fine or a fine stub (0.8 ideal but I guess 1.1 max) -Budget ≤350 incl shipping to Australia -If vintage must be mint-ish condition -looks nice Any suggestions?

    The Newbie.

Hey guys! Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a 19 year old Pharamacology student (pre-med) and I actually just recently took an interest in fountain pens (about a week ago). I then went out and purchased a pack of Pilot Varsities from my local OfficeMax to see whether FP's are for me. I loved the way the FP's wrote, and now I can't even fathom how nice it would be to use a better FP for my daily writing. My professor even complimented my pen while we were taking a quiz last week. I'm currently awaiting my shipment of FP's and Ink to arrive. I ordered a Lamy Safari (F), a Pilot Metropolitan (M), The Lamy Z24 Converter, and some Waterman's Havana Brown ink. I've basically been getting my fix of FP's from Youtube video's this past week. LOL. I also went out and purchased a dip pen a few days back and a bottle of Higgin's black Ink. It's been a fun few days. I'd appreciate it if you guys could give me some advice on how I can make my FP experience as enjoyable as possible. I'd love to here from all of you FPN veterans. Also, I'm looking for suggestions as to what my next pen in my collection should be. I'm thinking of upgrading to a gold plated nib that write nicely. I'm also a college student so please keep suggested pens relatively cheap. Thank everyone! -Fahad

    First Fountain Pen

Hi all! I've suddenly decided that I want to start using a fountain pen. I would like to know some pens that are great for beginners, but professional looking . I am a student, so chances are that when I am not using my computer, I would be using the fountain pen. Also, I don't know which is better, cartridge or ink (from the pot) and I appreciate help in that section as well. Thanks
  5. Hey guys I am relatively new to the fountain pen hobby (about 5 months) and I wanted to see if someone might be able to explain to me how Kaweco Rollerballs work. I've HEARD that they can be used with fountain pen ink cartridges/converter, but I've also seen them with regular rollerball refills. It might not be a lot of money, but I don't want to go ahead and buy a $20 pen if I'm not going to get what I want to expect. I bought a Noodler's Nib Creeper Rollerball, and I like it (I really do), but, the first tip lasted me about a month and the second tip lasted less than a week. If the Kaweco rollerballs CAN use fountain pen ink, I think they might be a better long term option than the Noodler's Nib Creeper. But, if they only take rollerball refills, that might just be money down the drain for me. Any advice/tips/suggestions?
