  1. I got some old ink....new, unopened, still in the blister pack....and am just checking to see if it's definitely ok for fountain pens. It's two smaller size bottles of Sheaffer Skrip, one lavender, one grey: it says "for the calligrapher" on the front, and at the bottom, developed for use in all fountain pens" so it should be ok, but I thought I'd ask just to make sure. Alex
  2. I got an old waterman's ideal #2 wetnoodle nib out of a fountain pen found on Ebay and put into mi Faber Castell E-Motion pearwood fountain pen! http://s26.postimg.org/yza9l4zex/10848813_10205690042309519_6753319126576676301_o.jpg Here's a video:
  3. I have been using my Pilot Elite 95s for a while now and I absolutely love it, but I think it's time to kill my wallet again. The main problem with me not being able to find a pen that I like is that I have fairly specific tastes and it's hard to satisfy them when I don't have a million dollars. My requirements/preferences are as follows: -must be <$300. Preferably I want something that is <$200, but I want to expand my horizons just to see if there is anything that absolutely blows me away. -relatively fine italic nib, maybe 1.1mm (I have been using a fine nib on my Pilot and I want some more interesting lines while not getting too thick) -Blue with gold trim (or alternatively white with blue accents and gold trim) I like the classy look of the burgundy/gold/white of my current driver but I want something more colourful and fun this time around. -Average or above average length. I like having my pens slim/sleek and noticeably longer than they are thick. I personally don't like fat pens. -Must be able to post it. I hate the fear of dropping or misplacing my cap. It also increases the length of the pen which I like. That should pretty much exhaust my preferences. I'll just leave it at that as I would like to see as many options as possible!
  4. I used to do my comic strip hand-lettering with Micron pens. I'd like to experiment something different. I heard great comments about the Speedball C-6 dip pen but I'd prefer to use a fountain pen instead. What would be a good fountain pen that could compare to the Speedball C-6 dip pen for comic lettering? Thank you very much.

    Omas Michelangelo Anniversary Le

Here are some photos of the new Omas Michelangelo, with Omas Press Release info and photos! The LE is made of the same marble as the David sculpture - Carrara marble from Tuscany, Italy. It's a pretty sophisticated piece so I assume it's gonna be pricey! Hello From Norfolk, England

I've had a Parker 65 fountain pen for more than 30 years (12ct rolled gold, English made) I recently aquired a matching ball pen and pencil for £20 each and almost instantly lost the ball pen. On looking for a replacement, I found a gold 180 fountain pen and ball pen set (made in the USA) for £40. Is this the beginning of the end? I seem to have paid a very reasonable price for the 180 set, looking at Ebay. I also have an elderly Platignum which actually writes very nicely. I can upload some pics if that would be of any interest.

  8. Before I got into fountain pens, I absolutely hated them. I had always like pens, pencils and stationery. My favourite was the Pilot G2 when I had first used a fountain pen. The first fountain pen I had ever used was a "cartridge pen" from Tesco: http://images3.mysupermarket.co.uk/ProductsDetailed/78/284178.jpg?v=4 It was terrible. Ink dropped out of the nib, the ink colour was washed out and it feathered and bled through and paper. (Recently I discovered that the pen and ink bleeds and feathers on Clairefontaine!) From this experience, I thought all fountain pens were like this. I had no idea there was such a vast range of fountain pens and how much they cost. A few years later, I was given some money as a gift, so I decided to get a Parker (my mother praised Parker a lot, and she wasn't even a pen enthusiast). I got a Parker Jotter ballpoint after doing much research. It was the most expensive pen I ever had, at £6. Some time later, I discovered Uni-Ball Jetstreams- the best ballpoint you will ever use. After that discovery, I got really into pens. I was into ballpoints, rollerballs, gel pens, felt-tip pens, but not fountain pens. I still thought they all behaved the way the Tesco pen did. When I saw prices of fountain pens, I couldn't believe it. They were enormously more expensive than regular pens. I also discovered bottled ink online, and my interest grew a bit. What made me want a fountain pen was a small stationery shop. I was in there when I saw a few fountain pens and bottles of ink. Suddenly, for some reason I really wanted a fountain pen! I did some web-surfing and discovered that fountain pens were awesome! After loads of research, I decided I wanted a Lamy Safari with a converter, and a bottle of Diamine Oxblood for Christmas. And that's how I got into fountain pens. Sorry for the long post. Here's a aesthetically pleasing pen: http://www.conwaystewart.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Churchill-Bracket-Green-FP.jpg
  9. Okay, so today I hit an Estate Sale and snagged a Pacific Pen and Pencil set. Both cleaned up quite nicely and the brass looks good also, but I've never heard of this .....what ....9th tier, lol, company? The nib is the basic Supreme 14K Gold Plate and the pen needs a new sack. Pencil needs lead, lol. The color is beautiful and the emblem looks to be a round leaf-like circle with a P in the middle. Can't find any info anywhere on this!! Has anyone ever heard of such an animal? The nib says nothing of the size, so no clue what size it is. I may have gotten taken on this grouping, but hoping it writes well. Not a real flexible nib, but in good shape. any thought would be be appreciated!!
  10. C'mon. Everybody has an idea for a fountain pen. Share your concepts, ideas and designs here! It may be your dream pen, or just a concept. Yes, I know fantasising is ridiculous, but I wanted to see the community's ideas. Diagrams and sketches are welcome. For example: One of my ideas is inspired by the F-117 Nighthawk stealth bomber. http://www.combataircraft.com/aircraft/ff117_p_02_l.jpg I thought the facets and panels on the plane looked pretty cool and interesting. So, I'm thinking maybe a pen that had similar facets all around and was completely matte black. Just to add to the fantasy: a large titanium/ ruthenium-plated nib, piston filling system, slightly concaved, faceted grip section, large feed, and very heavy. Your turn

    Hello From Phoenix Az

I am new to the network and new to fountain pens. I have inherited a large collection of beautiful fountain pens and am interested in selling a number of them. I am not interested in receiving retail for them and am only interested in passing them on to another collector or someone passionate about pens. I am also interested in them and find them very intriguing. Any advice, help, or words of wisdom are graciously accepted. I look forward to being a member and learning more about the pieces I have. Thank you, Winston
  12. A friend asked me why I was into fountain pens when I informed him of my new hobby. I had no idea what to say! Why do we love these magnificent instruments? Their superiority over ballpoints shouldn't be considered a reason, because that may be the reason why we use them, but not the reason why we love them.
  13. I love matte black. I think it makes everything look better. It's even more spectacular when the whole thing is matte black. Fountain pens look incredible in matte black, too. The Pilot Vanishing Point, Parker Urban, Faber-Castell E-Motion, Monteverde Invincia, Lamy Safari and Parker Premier all look stunning in this colour. Are there any pens that I missed? What's your opinion on flat/matte/muted/matt black?
  14. For a while now, I have had my eye on both of those pens. I've read reviews about both, but none of which help... I write unposted to start. I understand both are indeed small, that isn't really an issue though considering I write with my Scheaffer Craftsman (Thanks again Matt!) unposted. And That pen is considerably small. I will not take any nibs larger than a fine. I write too small and all nibs larger than fine, make my handwriting unreadable. So, what is the better pen to invest into? What has a smoother nib? A nicer feel in the hand? Any help is appreciated. And thank you all for taking time to read my thread! ~Phil
  15. I'm currently taking exams in school. I came prepared with a fully inked up Faber-Castell Ambition with Noodler's Black. I sit in the examination hall and look around. The person sitting in front of me is using a Bic Cristal with a sponge grip attachment. Someone across from me has a chunk of blue-tack stuck to his Bic as a grip. I chuckled internally. The F-C Ambition barely even has a grip, but after >2 straight hours of writing, my hand wasn't sore. This really shows how practical a fountain pen can really be. By the way, I finished a whole converter full of ink that day. I wrote so much that the ink got so dry I had to push ink into the feed with the converter. Faber-Castell Ambition: http://www.onlinehandel-as24.de/images/product_images/popup_images/2699_0.jpg (note the lack of a real grip) Bic Cristal: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e1/03-BICcristal2008-03-26.jpg/640px-03-BICcristal2008-03-26.jpg

    Kaiju Blue Ink? (Pacific Rim)

I recently saw the 2013 movie, 'Pacific Rim.' Pretty cool movie about giant robots fighting giant-alien-monsters, called 'Kaiju' http://cdn1.sciencefiction.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/pacific-rim-poster-banner.jpg The blood of these Kaiju looks really cool. Do you know of an ink that looks anything like it? The blue colours seen here: http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130706114235/pacificrim/images/7/7a/Pacific-Rim-Kaiju-blood.jpghttp://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/pacific-rim-kaiju-sea-monster.jpghttp://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130614023456/pacificrim/images/c/c8/Otachi_close_up.jpg
  17. Hey, I forgot to cap my fountain pen earlier today and accidentally stabbed myself in the face. What steps can I take now to get rid of it, or will it just fade away over time?
  18. Hey guys! Just wondering what the best looking pen you've ever seen is? Pictures would be great too! Thanks!
  19. I'm looking for a pen that costs around £40(price of converter included). I would prefer it to be a wet writer, or just not dry. I'm considering the Faber-Castell Ambition, TWSBI 580, Parker Urban and Lamy Studio Any thoughts or suggestions?
  20. Hi everybody This Mont Blanc pen was given to me in 1985 and after looking around online I am still not sure of the model, or how much it is worth. I have attached some pictures of the pen and would be grateful if you could take a look and help identify this for me. Thanks!
  21. Call me weird but we all have our little OCD secrets, after all we're pen fanatics. I absolutely hate people touching my Lamy Safari because they always leave it feeling warm. It's a different warm feeling from leaving it in the car or picking it up right after putting it down. And it's even worst when I use my Parker Urban Ballpoint (because I can flick this pen without the fear of ink going splat). When I let other people use it, instead of telling them that I'm OCD over pens, I end up having a warm pen (sometimes even oily GRR). The warm and oiliness is worsened by the fact that it is a metal pen. Soo... How do you fanatics solve the warm pen issue for pens other than FP. I can solve the oily issue by using the cloth for my glasses but I can't seem to lug around liquid nitrogen. And this is a real annoyance because I start to drift off school work and onto the fact that my pen is warm... >
  22. I have a Jinhao X450 (marbled finish) that I got a while ago when I bought a couple of Chinese pens (one is my knock-about Hero 110 that's quite good). I avoid Chinese pens unless I need something that I can use when working in the lab or that can be knocked-about, be lost (or stolen). Given that, I don't usually pay more than $10 for them, and don't care much if they don't work. But I have taken a liking to the very sturdy brass and enamel construction and the excellent M nib that I have gotten used to (though I greatly prefer F and EF nibs and usually avoid M or bigger because it is impractical to write calculations with them, and the fact that I simply really like EF nibs). Unfortunately, after writing two paragraphs, a vacuum forms inside the converter and no ink at all flows into the feed/nib section. I end up having to turn the piston in and out to manually draw air in every ten minutes. I took every single piece of the pen apart and soaked it in household bleach (it was fine, but please don't anyone soak their Montblanc in bleach! I DO NOT recommend trying this on any pen you spend more than $10 on! ). Cleaned every single channel and section with a little nylon brush. Everything was free of any contaminant or manufacturing residue. Put everything back together perfectly. Tested pen. . . And the same thing happened. I can hear a slow bubbling sound as the air tries to get into the reservoir. It is obvious that the feed system is not allowing for any air to enter. The system consists of a partially hollow feed with a little capillary feed that slips inside of it, it is this narrow little capillary feed that plugs into the tiny hole in the section and connects to the converter's reservoir. I don't think the design facilitates for any air to enter to stop a vacuum forming. Does anyone else's X450 do this? Is there any way to fix it? I would really like to find a way to solve the problem, as I have taken a liking to the pen. Thanks in advance for any advice.

  25. Is it alright to use bottled water in order to flush a fountain pen? Or should I just use tap water? I don't have distilled at the moment
