    Back From Hiatus

Hellooooow And I am Back….. from a much-needed break or you can say Hiatus from this fountain pen hobby. I have been in this hobby for more than 5 yrs now. There has been a lot of love and appreciation given to me and it really has aspired me to become better and more responsible person. Thank you to all of the followers and supporters and especially the admin members of Fountain Pen Network. Now, I have been away from this hobby for almost good 5 months and part of that is due to some personal reasons. First, I have joined a new organization which apart from just Architectural Designing and Coordination takes up more of my time in imparting training and developing new courseware and doing a lot of research work. With the new job, I have climbed up a career ladder and thus more responsibilities (thanks to Almighty God). Secondly, my new job involves a lot of traveling to a different Country where I can’t carry most of my pens and inks and also that Country has a restricted internet policy. I couldn’t access Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram….. the apps or websites I use most often. And lastly, there was a demise of someone close to us in the Family. It was tough. Believe me... But now I am back with more determination and vigor and will take this moment to apologize to all of you who have been following my blog and who have asked me something and I have not been able to answer them in time. Also, I would like to apologize to pen fraternity in India who have sent me some ink samples and pen for review which I have not been able to do so. Thank you for showing your trust in me and my target is to catalog those pens and inks in forthcoming months. So, yeah I have a lot of news for you. I have recently purchased a lot of stuff from my travels abroad and will share those here also. There will be few upcoming Giveaways that I will organize on my Blog and also on FPN. Do follow my Instagram page small updates are also available there. Thank you again for all of the love and appreciation. I can’t wait myself for the upcoming posts. Do let me know if you have certain suggestions and recommendations that you have for me and my blog and my upcoming reviews. Again I would really like to thank all the Admins and Seniors of the FPN. Thank you all.
  2. Hi, I've just found this forum and hoping you can be of assistance. I have a Montblanc Meisterstück Gold-Coated LeGrand Fountain Pen 146 for sale. But I have no idea what a fair price is for the pen. It is in excellent/near mint condition and has rarely been used. But I don't have the original packaging or receipt. Any advice? Thanks! ps. Do I need special privileges to put the pen up for sale in the Classifieds section as I can't see a create topic button?

Some embrace it, charging headlong into adventure. Others shrink from it, preferring the safety of home and familiarity. At Karas Pen Co, we’ve always fallen into the first group—looking for ways to move forward, experimenting with random ideas, and taking risks. The Decograph is the culmination of a journey through unpathed waters. Our research and development for this pen required adapting our machines to a new type of material—one that is nowhere near as uniform in its behavior as the metals we are accustomed to. This latest adventure has proven quite successful. In the spirit of Camillo’s words to Perdita and Florizel, we’d like to invite you to our “unpathed waters, undreamed shores.” Our winter Decograph Special Edition 1703, is a brisk addition to the Decograph pen line. The pen is crafted from material that is a chilling shade of wintergreen, struck through with ribbons of black and streaks of glittery ice. Let us bring a bit of winter cheer to the holidays a little early this year. The 1703 – Winter’s Tale special edition is limited to 60 pieces, each elegantly laser marked on the barrel with sequential numbers. Each pen ships in our custom made and marked pen capsule with a polished steel nib in sizes EF-B, 1.1mm stub, or 1.5mm stub, a standard international converter, and five black standard international cartridges. 2-tone, black lacquer, titanium, and 14K gold nib upgrades are available for an additional charge when selecting the nib choice. The Decograph 1703 – Winter’s Tale will retail for $165.00 USD available at the Karas Pen Co website 12/04/17.

    What Pen To Buy

What should I chose between the Diplomat Excellence B, Waterman expert II and Waterman Hemisphere?
  5. I picked up a Monteverde Intima in Volcano gray resin the other day. Should be in the mail today. I really like that color but found out that it's out of production so I pulled the trigger on a rollerball on the off chance I can use a FP section from another Intima I have. Couldn't find a FP around anywhere. Does anyone know if this is just a quick section swap? Looks plausible in pics even though they scaled the rollerball to look bigger than the FP. Cheers!
  6. A few months ago I acquired a few fountain pens, and among them was a Lamy Scala blue glacier 50 aniversary, and although I didn't fancy the pen, the price was good enough, that I thought I could sell it myself, and get double the money on what I'd pay on it. I got the pen and I tried it, and to my surprise the nib was outstanding. Subjectively for me the pen is hideous (the cap at least), is heavy, and has a slippery section which is pretty uncomfortable, but apart from that, the nib is a dream, and since my other 2 lamy pens have also great nibs, I cannot swap them on the Scala, I'm 99.9% sure I'll not sell this one. My question is, do you have a pen you find physically displeasing, but keep because of a great nib?

  8. Hi FPN, I have a vintage Japanese fountain pen, the only name is on the cap clip, it says "CAP CLIP". I do not know if this is the name or just a discription, but I will call it Cap Clip since there is no other markings on the pen. I was drawn to this fountain pen because of the filling mechanism, it looks like an ebonite cartridge, I have never seen any other pen with this system. The cartridge is sealed at the end but there is also a big notch cut out towards the end of the cartridge (not sure how this would work). The cartridge is threaded to screw on and off the section. The nib is steel and reads: IDEAL PEN/ HARDEST/ IRIDIUM/ POINTED/ 3. If anyone knows anything about this pen or filling mechanism please educate me, thank you. Pen_Padawan
  9. I found a fountain pen in a rock videoclip called Gravity by the band Papa Roach. So fountain pens really rock.
  10. In watch brands there is a concept called the holy trinity, which consists of Rolex, Patek and Audemars Piquet. Which do you think would be in fountain pens? I'd say one of them would be Montblanc (though I'm not a fan of it, but it is to many, more of a status simbol, just like a Rolex or Patek), but I can't think of the other two. Pelikan maybe? What are your thoughts?

    Rarest Pen Color

What do you suppose is the least used color for a fountain pen? I imagine the black is by far the most comon, but what about the least comon? P.S. Im not talking about weird colors like aquamarine, turquoise, magenta etc. Just the basic ones like: black, blue, red, green, white/ivory, yellow, orange, brown.

    Parker Model List?

I purchased a beautiful Cedar Blue Parker 51 vacumatic a couple years ago and it quickly became my favorite fountain pen to use. I have always been a Parker fan (my father was a salesman for Eli Lilly and always carried an olive Jotter with the company logo engraved in red). Recently I have started collecting Parker fountain pens and now have four 45s, a 61, a 21, two Arrows, a Frontier, and several "end of day" Vectors. My grail pen is a working green Vacumatic. I am looking for a list of the Parker models in order of release and the time frame each was produced. I have not been able to find any similar list. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks, CAB

    The Snap Cap

Does anyone know when the snap cap fountain pen was introduced? Were there any in around 1940 or only screw caps? Edit: apart from the parker 51, which was apparently launched in 1941. Were there before it snap caps?

    Sheaffer Legacy Ii

Has anyone used the modern Sheaffer Legacy (heritage) II? How des it compare to the Pelikan m800? Is it heavier? Is the nib as stiff? Is the build quality as good? I kind of like the look of it, and price wise is the same as a pel m800.

    Bb Nibs

I have a Lamy 2000 with a BB nib aquired some time ago, but couldn't quite get used to it, or more corectly there are no situations that require such a broad line. It's like writing with a brush. The pen was part of a bunch I got for a very nice price, but apart from trying it I have no ideea what is the purpose of such a broad nib. At work, definitely not, journaling also not. Even on very nice paper which tames Medium-wet nibs, this nib is extremely broad for my taste at least. It's like 4 times the line width of a medium. So my question is, where and how do you "broad loving people" use this kind of nibs? I love the 2000, and it would be a shame to sell it, but I'm trying to understand how I can use such a broad nib.

    New Caran D'ache

New Caran D'Ache fountain pens. Which one is your favorite? I don't know why I can't post pictures anymore. I could a few days ago. So I'm gonna post a link https://www.penworld.eu/pen-finder/caran-d-ache-justice-league-trinity-limited-edition-trilogy-box-fountain-pens.html P.S. I'm not selling or anything.
  18. Hello, I'm interested in learning how to make a fountain pen section that will accept a JoWo nib/feed assembly. I'd like to start by using easily available and inexpensive pen bodies, like the Jinhao x750. However, I am not married to this pen - I just know it is cheap and easily sourced. My understanding is that the #6 JoWo assembly needs m7 .4 x .5 taps. And that's about all I know, haha. Is there is a way to build a section that will work with a Jinhao x750 and accept the JoWo assembly? I'd be interested to learn about 3d printing or basic pen turning if there are low cost options. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

    Help Identifying Pen

Is this a Waterman? Although on it it says watermans. Are they the same brand? And what model is it?
  20. I accidentally found a fountain pen, and want to know other's people opinion on it, if you like it or not, or if you were aware of it's existance. P.S. I'm not trying to sell you this, I am in no way affiliated with the person making them, I just think they are very beautiful and would like to buy one one day. Has anyone bought from the seller? Is he ok? It's from a site called "GWPENS".

    Osprey Pens Milano

Greetings everyone, This is my first fpuntain pen review on this forum, so I hope it'll be fine enough since I've seen lots of fantastic threads that actually helped me a lot while deciding if a pen was worth buying or not. The pen in question is the Osprey Pens Milano, an handmade ebonite pen manufactured in San Jose, California. I was fascinated by the fact that I didn't understand why an American company would have called a pen like one of the biggest city of Italy and I've to say now I'm fascinated by how fast this pen has become one of my favourite everyday choice. I hope you've enjoyed my first attempt of writing a review, I'm obviously open to any suggestions. I apologize for my poor calligraphy and english, I've written it quite hastily during a moment of peace between work shifts!
  23. I found an interesting pen for sale, but have no ideea what it is.
  24. Does anyone know of Daniel Steiger fountain pens? They appear to be a watch/jeweler for men, and must have made some branded fountain pens at some point. I got one as a gift around 2010, and need a replacement nib/feeder, but can't find anything that fits and don't know what to look for in a generic nib/feeder anyway. If I knew the mfr of this pen I'd have an idea where to look, or if I knew how to know what size nib/feeder I have, I could look for a generic. Thanks for helping!
  25. Hello, everyone! So I have decided that my next pen is going to be an Italix from Mr. Pen. All of the models interest me and what like to hear peoples on input on which model I should obtain first as my first Italix Pen. No matter which model I choose I am going to go with either a Medium Italic Nib, or a Medium Stub. I'm thinking I should go with The Churchman's Prescriptor or the Parson's Essential.
