    Mb Slimline

Some years back, I treated myself to a MB Slimline to cheer myself up after losing a job. Now I would like to get a different fountain pen to use as a rembrance for this current, better time. What's the best way to sell the Mont Blanc so I can afford a Newton pen? Check ebay and see what others are going for? Any suggestions will be appreciated. I'm new to all this so bear with me while I get up to some speed.
  2. Hello all. Does anyone in the UK have any experience of buying pens from the US on eBay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pilot-Namiki-Vanishing-Point-Fountain-Pen-Matte-Black-18k-Broad-Nib-/400591990230?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d4524add6 Put simply, am I likely to get stung for customs duty on this pen (or similar, not finalised colour choice yet), thereby rendering it less bargainiforous than it currently is?
  3. First, take a look at this auction on eBay. Ignoring the fact that the seller is using erfobay's pictures, the fact that s/he's selling an MB 139 (as well as a MB 129 L, an extremely rare 'pregnant' Parker and a Waterman overlay FP) w/in a 24-hour period along w/old drumsets, stuffed animals, binoculars, etc., makes me wonder whether this is: - a scam or account hijacking? (If so, I don't see the usual tip-offs of separate email, alternative payment instructions, etc.) - a person who's lucky but is utterly clueless about FPs? (yes, they exist...see definition of Sumgai) What do you think? EDIT: fixed errors

    Poor Ebay Transaction

Re: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181268489305?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I wanted to post this here just because I feel something is amiss. My gut feeling (right or wrong) is that the seller didn't realize a decent price for these pens and decided not to send them to me, the winning bidder. I've never had an issue receiving anything from overseas and I've ordered from Europe and Asia. I have a strong proclivity for French pens, especially Bayards, and when I saw this auction for the Waterman and Bayard, I bid. I was really surprised that there was only one other bidder on this 10 day auction and I was further surprised that the final cost was 23 and change with cheap postage costs, too. The auction ended on 12/4 and I paid immediately. On 12/12, having not received any notification that the pens shipped, I sent the seller a message asking when the pens shipped and if there was a tracking number. The seller responded and said he sent the pens two days after my payment on 12/6. He added that he sent a watch to Canada "last month" and it took two weeks. He surmised that my pens would arrive by 12/20 and asked me to let him know when they arrived. On 12/24, I wrote the seller and informed him that the pens still hadn't arrived. I again asked for tracking information as he hadn't addressed my initial request for tracking, and I let that go as I'd expected the pens to arrive around the time he indicated they should. I hadn't received an answer from him by 12/28 so I re-sent my query and he answered me that same day. This is his message, verbatim. i pay you back now the post office told me the USA customs are the worst and the longer so they think it will arrive but the worst custom and the big shipment of chrismath are probably responsible of this late arrival excuse me for my bad english so i pay you back now i ask you to be serious and to pay me again when you will receive it usa are not china and i still believe it will arrive there is no number of shipment because it is without insurance insurance shipment would have cost more than the pen tell me I wrote him and told him I wished he hadn't refunded my money just yet and that I would, of course, pay him if the pens did arrive. I thought he was quite quick to refund my money as I'd given no inclination that I wanted a refund just yet. I believe I'm not going to receive these pens but will definitely post here if they do make it to me!
  5. Howdy, I've just stumbled on this pen: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Mjc0WDUwMA==/z/nD4AAOxyVLNSvjPV/$_12.JPG So I have a few quick questions about it: 1) Would it be worth the $54 aud I can grab it for? (I'm going to guess yes, but figured it's a safe question to ask) 2) Do these generally come with a built in converter? 3) If not, is there a converter that will fit and not cost an arm and a leg? (It's a compact pen, so that's why I'm asking in particular) 4) Why isn't the moon actually made up of cheese? That'd be so much better... Anyway, thanks in advance, guys. Trying my darnedest to add an imperial-esque pen to my starting collection (That damn sexy inlaid nib, man...)
  6. This is just a bit of a rant, and probably not the correct forum, but I was watching an auction for a 149 on the bay. The pictures were kind of vague and after no bids the same person made 5 bids, another person came in and raised in by $1 UDS the that same person made another bit for $200 USD more!?!?!? This is also after checking the hidden bids. Does this kind of thing happen a lot?
  7. It's just an eBay listing for a Montblanc, but the title and item description were unique, so I couldn't help but post it here. XD http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130968268983 EDIT: For some reason, the editor won't let me capitalize Montblanc. Weirdness. o_o
  8. I was looking for something on eBay and came across this: There's other styles too - you can see them if you search fountain pen patch. I thought it was cute, especially as it's actually quite realistic and detailed! It's about 4" long and change, so my initial idea that it would be a neat addition to a pen pouch probably wouldn't work as it would be disproportionately big for that. But on a larger item like one of those big cases with elastic loops for pens in the double-digits that lots of members seem to favor, it should be a good size! And of course on bags and stuff, or homewares. Can you tell I'm sort of talking myself into buying one? lol. Just hard to pick
  9. Which one of these sets are real and which are counterfeit (or are they all the same)? What are your experiences with them if you have bought them in the past? Anyone here who can read Chinese? What do the packs say on the front?

Authenticity Of New Mbs On Ebay?

Hi all, a question from someone who's relatively new to Mont Blanc pens... I've been looking at getting a new a pen for a very special event next year and I'm considered getting my first 146 or 149. Obviously the boutique prices are rather heavy, over here in the U.K. at least. Yet on eBay certain sellers with good feedback are selling what they purport to be authentic pens with significant discounts. My question is - as Montblanc has such a tight noose on prices, could it be possible that truly authentic MBs are available on such sites? Apologies in advance if this question seems naive, and my thanks for any responses, Badger

So... What Did I Just Buy?

Browsing eBay this evening, I came across this and won it for the princely sum of £4.20 (the majority of which was postage). http://i.imgur.com/wVHO3FM.jpg Not really bothered if it's rubbish - just fancied a punt on something I can clean up.

    Visconti Skeletons On Auctions

There are currently 3 ebay auctions for the Visconti skeleton pens. I am sharing the links here so that people who are interested can participate. These pens, especially the gold+titanium are so rare to find. As for myself, I will not bid on these auctions because I am not a fan of the skeleton design. http://www.ebay.com/itm/390668029586?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/390668035767?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 http://www.ebay.com/itm/390668032330?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I just noticed that the silver skeleton is c/c while the other two are vacuum fillers. Why would such an expensive visconti pen be a c/c filler?
  13. So....I just won this really strange pen on eBay and was wondering if anyone has any information on it. At first glance, it looks like one of those paper umbrellas you stick into cocktail drinks.... Turn it around and---ooo! Surprise, it's a geisha! Unscrew it and---whoa, is that a nib? Pretty weird! But I liked the looks of it, so I got it anyways... The only info I can find is this other eBay listing for a similar "umbrella fountain pen", but for waaaay more: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-Minim-Fountain-Pen-in-Pink-Color-Umbrella-Shaped-Original-Stamp-1950/380450183140?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D17905%26meid%3D1503916414376392040%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D8262%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D141066324596%26 And....a random blog entry with the clone of my pen here: http://www.rubylane.com/item/172908-JOY1440/Vintage-Celluloid-Fountain-Pen-Figural As far as I can guess, it's a vintage Japanese celluloid pen of some type. The nib reads "IDEAL Pen", and some further info can be found in the original listing here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vtg-Antique-NOS-Painted-Celluloid-Novelty-Umbrella-Fountain-Pen-Ideal-Pen-Nib-/141066324596?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=blKEkbymAjt6dnfBEH2abTwzINo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc I'd appreciate some more information!
  14. i recently picked this lot up off ebay for $135 shipped. that doesn't sound like a sumgai find at all, and maybe it's not. i took a gamble on this bunch of pens advertised simply as "4 FOUNTAIN PENS MISC NAMES COLORS" because i saw something in it the minute it was posted, bid on it immediately, and nursed that bid for nearly a week until it closed. as i expected, one other bidder tried to snipe me in the closing seconds, but i had a much higher backup bid, and survived. so what did i see? and was it worth it? http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll296/penmanila/KGrHqNqMFH9ywK3EiBSF3wfvUN60_58_zps328d606e.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll296/penmanila/T2eC16VzoE9s5nfFGBSF3wq5n-g60_58_zps074885c4.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll296/penmanila/T2eC16FQE9s3HCnuBSF3w9eRew60_58_zpsd2ce750c.jpg if i'm wrong, then i'm about $100 in the hole, but even so, there are at least two other good pens there i can probably recover that investment from. will post better pics and report more about condition, etc. when the lot arrives in a few days.

    Dostoevsky Dream Come True?

Just wanted to share a little story.... In recent months I've been cleaning up and narrowing my collection of inks and pens---selling the old, saving money to buy my grail pens, etc. One of them was the MB Dostoevsky. Out of all of MB's WE, this one appealed to me most---I love the detailing on the body, the golden rings on the cap and barrel---even that funny blue jewel in the clip. But I despaired of ever getting this pen, because it was long out of production and the current prices on eBay were too expensive for me (all of the listings were sets or included boxes---and all I wanted was the pen). Well, about a week ago, just when I was about to give up, someone lists it on eBay without boxes and papers at a price I could actually swallow. I admit it, I had to look twice. My hands shook. My heart skipped a beat. I swear that pen was calling my name. There was the usual dilemma of is-this-a-fake and will-I-get-scammed and someone-will-probably-outbid-me-in-the-end going on, but I decided to try for it anyways. For five days, I was the only bidder. Predictably, the last five minutes made up for all those days....but in the end, I still managed to squeak through with the highest bid. So, if all goes well, I might be the owner of a Dostoevsky after all. That's what I call the beginning of an almost happily ever after. =)
  16. Hello All, I managed to successfully bid for 3 pens from the same seller on eBay and have send a requested total to see if he would be able to combine shipping to Singapore from Philadelphia. However, it has been more then 24 hours since the end of the auction and I have yet to receive any response. I normally pay within a few hours of the auction closing or immediately but this is the first time, I purchase that many items from the same seller at the same time. Should I just bite the bullet and pay now with International Shipping at USD$15 times 3 or wait abit longer to see a response? I understand people should be on their way home from the Washington Supershow so what do you guys think?
  17. I looked around a bit through the search function, but didn't quite come a thread of its own that deals with this dilemma, the question of incorrect item descriptions. I was looking around ebay and found a few items that were of interest to me, low budget, nothing major in the fountain pen world - more sentimental to me. Item number one was described as piston filler although the picture clearly demonstrated it to be an aerometric filler. Didn't think much of it, the guy is obviously selling antiques and vintage stuff, not a fountain lover. Could happen, right? Saw the next item on the list and it was described as "pen in original box." (just said 'pen' in the description) The FOUNTAIN PEN depicted looked just as expected. The seller took close-ups of the pen box - and that included a big, fat stamp that said "retractable ball point pen." Seller is probably not speaking the language and went by the number of the series - the way Pelikan would say M400, for either ball point, or fountain pen. (it's not a Pelikan...I'm just using that as an example) So there is no way the box is original. The seller has over a lot of positive feedback, over 1000. What would you do?? The last item is 'just' 30 Dollars and yet it bugs me to see wrong descriptions. I know what I'm seeing and buying - but would other people know?? Would you contact the seller, explain it and see if the seller would be willing to change the price - or would you just inform ebay about this? My question is not a question about the specific pen - more about the moral compass of such a transaction. The seller seems reliable in general, but at least two fountain pen descriptions were already incorrect. I mean, you probably wouldn't inform someone who about the worth of the ultimate collector's item if the seller priced it at 20 Dollars "buy it now." We all would buy and be thrilled about a deal. But what would you do in this case? Click on over to the next item? Contact the seller? I think most of us would be unhappy to purchase something that deviates from the written description. It's more a moral quandary for me. What to do?
  18. Hi everyone, In my never-ending (and expensive) quest for vintage MB pens, I noticed a 60's era 149 w/an 18C nib that was just listed on eBay here and ends just before 6 PM (EDT) today; the pen has an 18C (not K) nib and looks like it's in pretty good condition. Note that the seller only ships to US, so this might appeal only to those already in the states. DISCLAIMER 1: I'm just posting this in case some FPN'ers in the US might not have noticed this and the auction end is very soon. If it violates the FPN rules, the mods have the right to remove this topic. DISCLAIMER 2: I'm associated with neither this auction's seller or eBay more generally in any way, shape or form outside of furthering my hobby of spending far too much time and money chasing far too many pens.
  19. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a28/grapefruiit_/IMGP8270_zps5e2c0d08.jpg The Yiren 829 is yet another unbelievably affordable Chinese-made fountain pen that can be purchased on eBay. It set me back $7.20 AUD including postage! My first impressions of this pen? It’s well-built, aesthetically pleasing, a great everyday writing tool – if used mostly at home. The barrel and cap are made of a chromatic-finish charcoal grey metal, with an engraving of gold plum blossoms across the barrel. It’s smaller and more slender than I expected. It feels solid in the hand, yet not overwhelmingly heavy. In fact, it’s fairly light for a fountain pen, much lighter than some Parker ballpoints I own. Truth be told, I purchased this pen purely as a gamble, because I love plum blossoms. To the Chinese and Koreans, plum blossoms (KR: 매화, CH: 梅花) are a symbol of strength, endurance and beauty in the midst of hardship: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a28/grapefruiit_/03plum_BaoChun-red_2002_zps633e5cb8.jpg It comes with a very clean, minimalistic medium hooded nib, which I rather like. See below for a closer look - http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a28/grapefruiit_/IMGP8267_zpscc1db78f.jpg I think of it as an ‘everyday pen’ because together with the ink I used* to test it out, it is compatible with such a wide range of papers. It writes wonderfully on A4 cartridge paper without any feathering or bleeding onto the back of the page. I was pleasantly surprised, but dubious about how well it would perform on thinner paper. So I gave it a spin on a regular Spirax composition book. Though Spirax normally produces quality notebooks, this particular style – from its latest fashion stationery range – had very flimsy paper. Amazingly, while some faint traces were visible through the back of the page, the Yiren 829 performed very well on even this cheap-grade exercise-book style paper. (* from Hero, another Chinese brand – I don’t need expensive ink when I get through a stack of paper each day for my thesis!) http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a28/grapefruiit_/IMGP8278_zpsf1655464.jpg I would recommend this pen for students, or anyone else who wants an inexpensive writing tool of decent quality. It doesn't quite match the ease/comfort/smoothness of the Lamy Safari, but it's nice for those days when you want to treat yourself to a little luxury while writing.

    Ebay Prices - Climbing?

Greetings, all, and welcome back! It's been a long week with FPN up and down, and probably like many I've been missing my on-line fountain pen fix. As a result, I've been browsing on Ebay a bit more than usual of late. One thing seems to stand out - I think Ebay pricing has increased significantly in the past 2 weeks or so. Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?
  21. Hello all! I have a vexing question. How do people trade pens over the internet? I bought a clear Pilot Custom Heritage 92 with a Fine nib from a reputable ebay seller in Japan. However, I'm now over my love affair with clear demonstrators and badly want to get a colored version of the C92 with a Medium nib. I've never seen a smoke or blue colored C92 on classifieds within the $135 I paid for mine and I haven't been able to snipe a C74/C91 off of ebay (*to change the medium nib) without enough margin to break even when I inevitably sell off the other pen. So comes the conundrum If I can't sell and buy, how do I trade my pen for one that I want? Post a wanted ad in the classifieds and hope? When I buy a pen from a member, I have a chance to recoup my loss via Paypal if things go south. How do total strangers establish enough trust to send each other pens through the mail? Any suggestions? I know this is a slightly dumb question to ask but I think others might be wondering the same thing...
