  1. Hey guys, I need your advice!! I always liked the Parker Urban but didn't really think it was worth its 60 EUR price tag. I found a nice deal on ebay for 17,5 GBP + 6 GBP shipping (brand new) and thought I should go for it. The pen arrived today and although I would say that it is genuine, there are some things that bother me. A ) The pen arrived with a few small bumps/dings on the cap. They're not terribly visible but they're there and shouldn't be. B ) The pen arrived with a slide converter and no cartridge. I know that the Urban is supposed to come with a cartridge and no converter. The item description was ambiguous about that. At one point it says indeed that the pen comes with a converter and no cartridge and later on it mentions a half full packet of cartridges. C ) I contacted the seller to ask about the nib size (item description was ambiguous about that too) and although I was told I would get a M nib, I got a F instead. That's not really a problem as I would change the nib either way but I didn't like the misinformation. The seller (from Israel) does list some obviously fake pens among the authentic ones, but the packaging of this specific Urban seems genuine to me. The engraved date code is IIU, the seller lists the pen as made in India, and the manual has the Newell Rubbermaid logo on it. So, what do you think I should do with this pen? Should I return it? Should I ask for a partial refund and if so how much would you ask for? Or should I just accept it as I got a really good deal either way?

    Montblanc 149 Real Or Fake

Hi Guys, Just having a look on eBay, an online retail shop selling the Meisterstuck 149 Red Gold. They have two of these and many other various Montblanc pens, wonder if you could let me know if it is legitimate or not. Here is the link below: http://www.ebay.com.my/itm/381255645201?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Kind Regards,
  3. I have been looking at a Chinese FP on eBay. The listing says $ 5 including shipping. But it also have "make offer" option Any idea what should I offer ? Or should I just go ahead with transaction? Even generally, how much percentage mark down should be considered acceptable? Thanks

    Crocodile 215

I thought I would find a dragon from the land of dragons. But a dragon was not available. So, I ended up buying a crocodile http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/58/3.06b.jpg "3.06b" by Joxerra Aihartza - Nire argazki-bilduma / own picture. Licensed under FAL via Wikimedia Commons. Sorry... wrong image... its not as dangerous... This one was really a cute looking crocodile that I could hold in my hands http://cl.jroo.me/z3/3/8/7/d/a.baa-One-happy-crocodile-D.jpg Source: http://www.jokeroo.com/pictures/animal/1031991.html This one was a really happy crocodile...and also made me very happy. I could not understand why crocodiles were considered so dangerous. Besides, it had glittering and shining eyes, was slim and really easy to hold. I was sure it was not going to give me any slip or run away. It was wild and brought with it the wilderness one could hardly imagine. Its easy to understand why we get scared - sharp tooths, biting, scratching - anything that would hurt! But what if it was smooth - indeed very suave, very cultured and well behaved - even ready to get tamed - not just understanding you but even ready to follow you with every move? Ah everyone would then love to have such crocodile ! So my little crocodile - here you see: I had never thought I would be writing with the tongue of a crocodile who is perhaps basking in the sun. But I finally decided it was time to do that ! And I cant stop my amazement (and bewilderment) as to how fine and smooth its tongue is. It writes fine and no feedback ! Those who use fine nib, know that experience, where they would reject the scratchy types but write with the smoother ones. But even the smoother ones have that "feedback" thing on the paper. But this FP feels like as if I am writing with a broad nib - the nib itself writes the Chinese fine. The FP as such is very well made, well balanced. Its on the slimmer side. Gets posted well and is well balanced. The trims have the characteristic crocodile images that is characteristic of the brand. And did I forget the glamour element in the shinning and glittering eyes - thats lovely and enticing. The filling system is the standard cartridge/converter. The FP comes with converter. Excellent FP if you are looking at something on the wild side.
  5. Has anyone else experienced an eBay seller with an enticingly-low price who receives payment and then doesn't send the item? This is an old scam that sellers with a large audience can try; if you do it often enough, you'll eventually find someone will forget that they paid for nothing. James
  6. I am a new member and wish to seek others' opinion on my recent eBay purchases. There is a member 'Botujaqe' from Thailand since November, 2013 with 41 feedbacks. He has been selling low value item like fridge magnet and motorcycle jackets $30 or less. Two days ago, he listed around 20 pens ranging from Parker Duofold Senior 125th Anniversary, Parker CP51, Pelikan M710, Montblanc Ramses, Montblanc Coral, Agatha Christie Sterling and Vermeil, and A few Montblanc stainless steel variants and others. The bid was only for 24 hours and winning bids ranging from $150 to $750. I won a few items and was about to make payment. I sent an inquiry about combined shipping and if the seller will ship with tracked & registered service. No response after 2-3 inquiries and the only reply i receive 'Invoice sent, Thank'. This raises a few alarms to me. I have not paid for the bids and would like to seek an advise from the forum. Here are some alarms: 1) Flash sale > 20 high value items with 24 hours period 2) Only 43 feedbacks with 3 are negatives 3) Just over a year eBayer 4) Never sold high value item more than $30 5) Did not respond to questions 6) Price seems to be a quarter of market price Some items offered: 1. PARKER LIMITED EDITION DUOFOLD SENIOR 125TH ANNIVERSARY NEW $ 660 2. Parker Duofold CP5 Fountain Pen LIMITED EDITION NEW $555 3. MontbIanc WRITERS EDITION AGATHA CHRISTIE STERLING 4810 FOUNTAIN PEN $666 4. MontbIanc 1993 WRITERS EDITION AGATHA CHRISTIE VERMEIL 4810 FOUNTAIN PEN $798 Old listing: 1. Various magnet fridge at $2.99/each 2. Suzuki sport jacket at $29.99/each Complete List How would you view this? Is there a way to ascertain the seller intention before paying? Should I request the bid to be cancelled?
  7. How did I do on my first Waterman, vintage, gold nib(killed three birds with one stone) pen? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Waterman-Taperite-Crusader-Demi-Black-Stainless-Steel-Cap-Fountain-Pen-1940s-/371250629973? I wanted to keep it safe, so I went for a VERY reputable buyer and one that's repaired and in good shape. I can't help, but think I paid a bit more than it should have cost, (this is my first pen over $50 after all) I see people that say they pay mere $40 and then repair them themselves(I'm a lazy boy ). *Personally, at the end of the day, I feel like it was worth it for buying something that hit three major targets. *This sentence makes my entire post obsolete. P.S. I will do a review of it when I get it and when I get a chance. It'll also be my first review! Geez, it's a pen of firsts huh?(except it's not my first fountain pen.)

    Is This A Montblanc?

Pictures following.....have done my best to show as much detail as I can. I'm wondering if this is a genuine Montblanc: it was listen simply as "fountain pen, nice looking, good condition" The words Montblanc Meisterstuck are etched into the silver coloured ring at the base of the cap; it has the six pointed star on top. It's fitted with a converter( have not flushed it yet, so it's exactly as I got it) Leather case, also with six pointed star on the catch, and MONT BLANC Hamburg At the bottom of the back. Pictures....

  10. Hello all. I just won this set off eBay. Would any of you far more knowledgeable people be able to identify it for me? http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFg4Nzc=/z/RLQAAOSwMpZUpqHS/$_57.JPG Don't worry about telling me I've bought a dud - it only cost me a tenner.
  11. I just won an auction for a nice vintage Easterbrook J. Before I pay for it I would like some advice from some more experienced people. I know nothing about replacing ink sacs and such so would buying this pen be a good idea? Are vintage ink sacs cheap? Are they easy to replace? The seller says he has never used it. Here ia a link to the pen: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271729930323
  12. Hello everyone, how are you doing? Does anyone knows this seller? Would you guys buy this? Im looking for a pen of the same brand and model but with the music nib, any suggestion for where to buy? (I prefer to have a pre-owned one) http://www.ebay.com/itm/PLATINUM-3776-CENTURY-Fountain-Pen-PNB-10000-51-CHARTRES-BLUE-With-Converter-/171625591407?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27f5aeb26f
  13. Hello friends, I have been following some of the offerings recently from ebay seller Lokoenjopon (yes, spelled that way). I have placed several bids on several different items with him, and invariably there have been bid retractions. The last experience is even more curious: there is a Sailor pen that was up for auction several weeks ago for auction again…I guess he has more than one in stock. There have so far been two bid retractions on this one, and I am again the high bidder. One of the retractions was by someone with no rating. Zero. I am beginning to get suspicious. Has anyone had good experience with Lokoenjopon?
  14. I wasnt sure where to post this, so hope it's ok here. Treated myself to this beautiful pen. After quite some time, it arrived today(after the last date in the listing) I did not expect it to be full of ink....which had leaked out, into the cap, and left a rust mark round the body of the pen, where the cap touches it: also, rust marks on the end of the filler mechanism. In the pictures on the listing, these marks were not shown - I held the pen against the picture, and there was a tiny mark in one of them, but nothing like the amount that there is, and no mention of it in the listing. Considering the cost of it, Im really unhappy about this. It's an absolutely beautiful pen, but I want to use it. I certainly did not expect it to be in this condition...and it was listed as working/useable, with no mention of these marks. It's beautiful I love it, I want to keep it, and Im hoping that the marks are basically 'cosmetic', and that I'll be able to clean them off( tried with a damp piece of kitchen roll, but no luck with that) I don't want to return it; but I *do* feel that it should not be in this condition. I've contacted the seller(yet to hear from him) and also eBay. Really don't know what, if anything I can do. This is the description in the listing: "Here is for sale a beautiful and RARE PARKER 51 FOUNTAIN PEN CUSTOM BY ARIEL KULLOCK 100% GOOD WORKING CONDITION, NO DINGS OR DEFECTS ON THIS PEN ORIGINAL PARKER 51 CUSTOMIZED BY ARIEL IN ARGENTINA THOSE PENS HAVE A LOT RELIEF ON CAP AND BODY WHICH MAKE THEM VERY NICE AND DESIRABLE THIS IS A MIX OF THE 2 TECHNIQUE CALLED " AQUA FORTE " ( ETCHING ) AND THE ADDITION OF PIECE OF BRASS OR SILVER ON TOP OF ENGRAVING THE THEME IS FOR ONE PEN THE WALL OF LAMENTATIONS WITH RABBIS PRAYING WITH DAVID STARS ON BODY AND FOR THE SECOND A RABBI BLOWING IN THE HORN AND FRUITS AND KITCHEN ITEMS AND DAVID STARS ON BODY THE FILLING SYSTEM IS AEROMETRIC CLASSIC PARKER 51 , NIBS HAVE FINE POINT" Am so disappointed.... A Waterman For Christmas

My boss (producer/director of Sofia The First) has been a bit of a pen fancier but a little too much of a cheapskate to buy one, so when a Commando in good condition showed up on ebay, I bought it, had it reconditioned and gave it to him for Christmas. I knew he'd love something called a Commando, because he has a deep interest in The Good War, but I had no idea. He looks for opportunities to brandish it in public and he says it's changed his life. I feel like I've done something vaguely evil.

    Cheap Cartridges From Ebay

I just bought this pack of 40 cartridges on ebay, has anyone here tried them? Are they any good? (To be honest I just bought them because I needed empty cartridges ). Thanks! Ebay Bidding Pens

I have been "watching" couple of Pilot pens on bid (without participation). What I saw was that these pens final bid would be $ 30 - 40 lesser than the least buy price. So my question is about its quality. If any FPN members have participated in such bids, can they share their views on quality of pens received. What makes me skeptical is even when a pen is declared new, why should a seller sell a pen for USD 70 in bid, whereas the minimum listed sell price on ebay is anywhere from USD 100 to 115 - going upto over USD 250 (for exact same model) thanks.

    "cheap" Mb? Not Long Left

If I had some money I might consider this - some of the photos are terrible, and the description is severely lacking, but it looks genuine and if so, is seemingly a very good price. Thought i'd flag it up for others to peruse :-) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-Authentic-MontBlanc-gold-fointain-pen-/181593643205?pt=UK_Home_Garden_PensPencils_WritingEquipment_SM&hash=item2a47d318c5

    Yard-O-Led Nib Unit

Firstly, I know I made a huge mistake/boo boo...am daft, etc. insert word if choice. Trust me, Ive used them all, and then some. I bought this: "The plain version of the Viceroy style. Purchased in 1988. The nib is a medium point and the original. On the pen cap there is a tiny dent, barely visible. Pen number 4635 YOL 925 . Hallmarked. Wooden box and YOD guarantee" When I got it, it wouldn't write...I tried soaking, gently(no chemicals whatsoever, not even Fairy) patience, multiple flushing s etc. still wouldn't write. Long story short, contacted seller, who was adamant it wrote when he sold it, and he thought I may have damaged it in my attempts to fix. He offered a return, but conditional on him sending it to a repairer(and I had no way of knowing whethervId be named/charged for repair etc) Got myself so upset( lot of life stuff going on, recently widowed, am very fragile right now, can cope with very little) and wondering if I had in fact damaged it, that I closed the eBay case and Sid I'd get it fixed myself. I know that sounds stupid, buI really couldn't cope with the hassle. So. Asked my friendly penman if he'd look at it, explained it all, upshot is that it has a crack; this is what he said(and he also said that there was very little chance that I had done the damage): "have just taken a good look at the forward part of the section, and there is definitely a spiral shaped crack in it that extends for about 5 or 6 mm. As such, you are unlikely to ever get a decent ink flow from the nib. You would need a replacement section. Your pen is quite an old model, and YOL no longer make sections of this type, so i don't really know where you'd get one from. " Does anyone have any suggestions(other than trying to contact the seller on eBay....already did, no response, and as I was stupid enough to close the vase, he is in the right) Is there any other nib unit which would fit, or anywhere I could get a replacement without spending a fortune? Hope this makes sense.... Alex

    New Pen Case!

So, I got a pen case from easylivingus - a great, reliable seller who is based in China but ships from the UK. Not entirely sure how they manage it, but you get stuff within the week rather than the month! I'd previously ordered a 10 pack of Hero 616s that I use as competition prizes at school. Anyway, I wanted a new pen case and didn't want to pay through the nose, so I ordered one of these for £13.50 with free shipping. OK, so it's pleather and looks a little cheap (which it is) but it's sturdy on the outside and soft on the inside! Some pictures: http://i.imgur.com/IK1PACi.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AEcg7WM.jpg And, since you asked, from top left: Cross Apogee (medium), Italix Parson's Essential (broad stub), Jinhao X750 (broad, I think), Kaweco Skyline Sport (medium), Kaweco Classic Sport (BB), Lamy Safari (1.1mm italic), Noodler's Nib Creaper, Noodler's Ahab, Parker 45 ballpoint, Parker UK Duofold Junior (soft fine), Parker IM Premium (medium), Parker 51 (medium), Parker 45 (medium), Parker Sonnet (medium), Pelikan Souveran M600 (medium), Pelikan M200 (broad italic), Pilot MR (medium), Pilot Plumix, Platinum Plaisir (medium), Platinum Preppy (fine), Platinum Preppy highlighter, TWSBI Diamond 580 (1.1mm stub), TWSBI Diamond Mini (1.1mm stub), TWSBI Vac 700 (1.5mm stub).

Which Cross Did I Win At Ebay ?

Here's the link: http://www.ebay.in/itm/301310773352?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Item: 301310773352 Attaching few images in case, the auction doesn't show up on ur browsers Considering that I got it dirt cheap, is it at least a decent one ? or a fake ?
  22. Hi all. I won an auction on Sunday and today, a lovely dark red 51 dropped through my door. The seller described 'faint marks' so, being a cynic (especially where eBay is concerned), I was expecting something the texture of sandpaper. Credit where it's due though - I've seen supposedly 'mint' pens in worse condition. The fact that it only cost me £29 makes it even sweeter! So, here are some photos. There's no date code that I can find - just a faint 'M', which I think stands for medium nib. The pen in the last picture is my UK Duofold Junior, for size comparison purposes. Thanks in advance for any help. http://i.imgur.com/VQhlnp9.jpg http://i.imgur.com/fjNqgNL.jpg http://i.imgur.com/dH6Gn9i.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TpmySZq.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3fhKSuJ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AOvDcZM.jpg
  23. Why is ebay removing the geographic filters? Usually when I got o ebay it has a list of location preferences for an item down the left hand side and I can pick, local, Europe wide or world wide. But now this option has gone. I've tried looking elsewhere for it but can't seem to find it anywhere. It's quite annoying, because if I search for pens and I want to know what is in my local area or in Europe (where I won't get stung with import tax) it used to come up easily, but now it doesn't and I have a load of stuff from the US and China in the search and it doesn't tell me where anything is until I actually click on it. Hopefully I am missing the new filter tab that has been staring me in the face all this time - please, tell me this is so!
  24. Anyone ever heard of / dealt with Pens and Beyond out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, otherwise known as Uwe Gruening? I notice he posts at Pentrace. I ended up in a bidding war with someone on an ebay auction of his for an ostensibly uninked Stipula Etruria Nuda Demonstrator, #207/351. I received the pen, and lo and behold, the pen is clearly used: http://i.imgur.com/mDzABwn.jpg?1 as you can see, there's a clear green ink ring where the piston seal sits when the piston is retracted. Turns out all the seller's feedback has 'private' listings so you can't see what he's been buying and selling. Pro scammer or honest mistake? Anyone ever dealt with him before?
  25. Dear Fountain Pen Aficionados, Some of you might recall that my precious fountain pen collection, consisting of about 50 pens, was stolen from my office at UC Berkeley in early June. After continually searching, and others who helped, I have now located an eBay seller who is slowly selling off my collection. His eBay handle is Dort1463. He lists on global eBay markets including US, Canada, UK, Germany, and Spain. His international listings all have the peculiar caveat that he only mails to the US. Most of his auctions are private. His eBay store lists his name as "Daniel O." I do not make accusations lightly, but I'm quite sure these items are from my collection. Of the 16 pens this seller sold, all corresponded to items in my collection. Moreover, his sales included unusual items like a Sheaffer Intrigue Whaleshark with stub nib and a Sailor 1911 red with music nib. If any of you purchased items from this seller (at sumgai prices I might add), could you please be kind enough to contact me and perhaps give me the opportunity to buy back a part of my collection? In addition, if you encounter a listing by this seller, please notify me so I can bid or, better yet, catch this guy. Thanks to all for your continued support as I slowly recover from the trauma of losing my collection. Any suggestions for getting it back are greatly appreciated. I have already contacted the police, but have not contacted eBay. I am hesitant to contact eBay since all they will do is close the seller down thereby killing the ability of the authorities to trace him. Sincerely, John Morgan
