Some Nice Ebay Finds (A Burgundy Senior Max Vac, Etc.)

i've been building up a small stash of ebay finds in my daughter's place in san diego these past few months (i live and work in the philippines, and so i tend to collect my ebay stuff in the US when i visit once or twice a year). among my most recent pickups was this burgundy vac which, at the time i bought it, seemed to me to be either a senior or slender maxima. it's still hard for me to tell one from the other just from a picture, but i was hoping for a senior max, because i already have the slender in burgundy, among other colors except blue). thankfully, it did turn out to be a senior maxima in very fine condition, from 1939, with striped jewels and section, needing just a new diaphragm, which i'll install as soon as i fly back to manila. the price wasn't too bad, either: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191712327935?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and the others? the best ones include a huge, near-mint morrison's overlay which i picked up for $80, a moore L-94 in RHR, a sweet, very clean GF wahl, and a plain but also very clean BHR waterman 54. many have super-flex nibs now i can't wait to get home so i can resac and refurbish these babies. -

So I decided to climb further up the price notch in the Lamy brand and I decided to purchase an Al-Star from amazon.ca for 49, 95$ CDN which seems to be a regular rate for these pens in Canada. I am just concerned that it may be a fake as there is a lot of stories out there of fake Safaris and Al-Stars going around. My question is does anyone have any experience with fake Al-stars from amazon where amazon itself is the seller? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, so I scored a lot of 6 pens from fleabay and I'm curious about them as I can't find much info. (Okay, there is some info for the Permapoint, but not much for the rest.) In the lot, there was a black Eversharp Permapoint with what says is a Iridium tipped M nib, but it writes F to me. Nice pen! There was a small Onward that looks identical to the Permapoint, but has an Onward nib. (needs sac) There is a beautiful E.F. (Eberhard Faber) red and black lever filler (needs a sack) and then... ...3 AMERICAN button fillers- two green and a red of same model. These are the most mysterious of the bunch to me. I'm thinking they are David Khan pens? Maybe a sub, sub brand of Wearever? The two green ones work fine. The red one appears to have a stuck button as I soaked it in water for 4 days and the button still doesn't move. I don't know how to get water into the barrel to let the cork soak. What are these pens/models? What are they made of?? Age if anyone can tell? Are the nibs decent: (The American nibs are super smooth, but not much flex. The others are more flexible and nice writers nib wise.) I've not pulled any of the nibs, but they are all gold tones and don't appear to have silver coloring anywhere, but non are marked one way or the other. The E. F. nib has a star in a diamond on it. Any and all information and help would be appreciated. They were cheap, so the fact that 3 write straight away is awesome!

So I saw an auction for a NY Mabie Todd Swan - a gold ringtop, but the photos were so bad you couldn't tell anything about the pen. So what one does in the circumstances is ask the seller about the nib (of course). The answer prompted me to bid on the thing, and it just arrived. What a treasure for fifty bucks! Very heavy for its size so I think it's solid gold. Very handsome chasing, and a wonderfully flexy #2 nib. I bought it with my fingers crossed, and I'm very pleased.

Somebody put up four Waterman Hundred-Year pens on eBay: they all have perfect transparent blind caps, which suggests either a restoration or a fake. The markings look right and they're all different, and they're being auctioned with very low minimums. Is it actually worth it to build fake Watermans when you could get more money for a fake Mont Blanc?

Hey guys, I need your advice!! I always liked the Parker Urban but didn't really think it was worth its 60 EUR price tag. I found a nice deal on ebay for 17,5 GBP + 6 GBP shipping (brand new) and thought I should go for it. The pen arrived today and although I would say that it is genuine, there are some things that bother me. A ) The pen arrived with a few small bumps/dings on the cap. They're not terribly visible but they're there and shouldn't be. B ) The pen arrived with a slide converter and no cartridge. I know that the Urban is supposed to come with a cartridge and no converter. The item description was ambiguous about that. At one point it says indeed that the pen comes with a converter and no cartridge and later on it mentions a half full packet of cartridges. C ) I contacted the seller to ask about the nib size (item description was ambiguous about that too) and although I was told I would get a M nib, I got a F instead. That's not really a problem as I would change the nib either way but I didn't like the misinformation. The seller (from Israel) does list some obviously fake pens among the authentic ones, but the packaging of this specific Urban seems genuine to me. The engraved date code is IIU, the seller lists the pen as made in India, and the manual has the Newell Rubbermaid logo on it. So, what do you think I should do with this pen? Should I return it? Should I ask for a partial refund and if so how much would you ask for? Or should I just accept it as I got a really good deal either way?

I don't have much luck on eBay. There are so many of us trawling the place for vintage Watermans, and so many canny sellers, that bargains are hard to stumble across, and some of the things I've bought have disappointed a little; nibs not as good as described, condition not as nice as the pictures would suggest - I'm sure you've all been there. But this morning, it appears that my unlucky streak broke. I'd spent £27.90 on a very faded pen that someone had just listed as "Waterman's Ideal Fountain Pen - 1908 - Made in Usa". No other details. (The original auction should still be there to look at for a little while, if you're interested.) Looking at it, I'd figured it was probably a 72 or a 72 1/2 (an eyedropper with a threaded cap from around the 1920s). And the nib looked OK (and potentially very nice), so I thought I'd take a punt on it. I was very surprised when I got it for under £30 - I'd been prepared to go quite a lot higher. The seller had photographed it meticulously, but hadn't photographed the end where the identifying number was. So, convinced I was getting a 72 1/2, I was extremely pleased to unwrap it this morning to find I had a 12 1/2 POC - which makes it an earlier pen than I'd been expecting - and the condition was great. (There's even a bit of red wax left in the 12 1/2 POC imprint.) Threads clean and tight, no toothmarks or other dings; just discolouration. I had to clean a little crud out of the barrel, but the nib section was very nearly completely clean, and only needed a very little attention. A dab of silicone grease, and she was good to go. And best of all, the nib is a joy. It's a medium-wet writer with really good, soft flex from M to BBB; not quite a wet noodle, but a lovely, soft, velvety pleasure to write with. This is really one of the nicest nibs I own. I've cracked open a new bottle of Fuyu Syogun to celebrate. I am having some trouble uploading images, but I've put one of the identifying mark on the end and one of the nib and some writing on Dropbox for you to see. Right now, I'm prevaricating a bit. I'm never going to sell it (I love this nib too much), and I'd like to add it to my daily carries if it behaves nicely; I'm not seeing any nib creep or other potential problems that are going to leave me with an inky pen wrap. I've never reblacked a pen with PMBHRPPNo.9 before, but I'd rather like to with this one. Do you guys think that would be sacrilegious, or would you go for it?

I have been looking at a Chinese FP on eBay. The listing says $ 5 including shipping. But it also have "make offer" option Any idea what should I offer ? Or should I just go ahead with transaction? Even generally, how much percentage mark down should be considered acceptable? Thanks

I am a new member and wish to seek others' opinion on my recent eBay purchases. There is a member 'Botujaqe' from Thailand since November, 2013 with 41 feedbacks. He has been selling low value item like fridge magnet and motorcycle jackets $30 or less. Two days ago, he listed around 20 pens ranging from Parker Duofold Senior 125th Anniversary, Parker CP51, Pelikan M710, Montblanc Ramses, Montblanc Coral, Agatha Christie Sterling and Vermeil, and A few Montblanc stainless steel variants and others. The bid was only for 24 hours and winning bids ranging from $150 to $750. I won a few items and was about to make payment. I sent an inquiry about combined shipping and if the seller will ship with tracked & registered service. No response after 2-3 inquiries and the only reply i receive 'Invoice sent, Thank'. This raises a few alarms to me. I have not paid for the bids and would like to seek an advise from the forum. Here are some alarms: 1) Flash sale > 20 high value items with 24 hours period 2) Only 43 feedbacks with 3 are negatives 3) Just over a year eBayer 4) Never sold high value item more than $30 5) Did not respond to questions 6) Price seems to be a quarter of market price Some items offered: 1. I thought I would find a dragon from the land of dragons. But a dragon was not available. I could not understand why crocodiles were considered so dangerous. Besides, it had glittering and shining eyes, was slim and really easy to hold. I was sure it was not going to give me any slip or run away. It was wild and brought with it the wilderness one could hardly imagine. Its easy to understand why we get scared - sharp tooths, biting, scratching - anything that would hurt! But what if it was smooth - indeed very suave, very cultured and well behaved - even ready to get tamed - not just understanding you but even ready to follow you with every move? Ah everyone would then love to have such crocodile ! So my little crocodile - here you see: I had never thought I would be writing with the tongue of a crocodile who is perhaps basking in the sun. But I finally decided it was time to do that ! And I cant stop my amazement (and bewilderment) as to how fine and smooth its tongue is. It writes fine and no feedback ! Those who use fine nib, know that experience, where they would reject the scratchy types but write with the smoother ones. But even the smoother ones have that "feedback" thing on the paper. But this FP feels like as if I am writing with a broad nib - the nib itself writes the Chinese fine. The FP as such is very well made, well balanced. Its on the slimmer side. Gets posted well and is well balanced. The trims have the characteristic crocodile images that is characteristic of the brand. And did I forget the glamour element in the shinning and glittering eyes - thats lovely and enticing. The filling system is the standard cartridge/converter. The FP comes with converter. Excellent FP if you are looking at something on the wild side.

Has anyone else experienced an eBay seller with an enticingly-low price who receives payment and then doesn't send the item? This is an old scam that sellers with a large audience can try; if you do it often enough, you'll eventually find someone will forget that they paid for nothing. James

How did I do on my first Waterman, vintage, gold nib(killed three birds with one stone) pen? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Waterman-Taperite-Crusader-Demi-Black-Stainless-Steel-Cap-Fountain-Pen-1940s-/371250629973? I wanted to keep it safe, so I went for a VERY reputable buyer and one that's repaired and in good shape. I can't help, but think I paid a bit more than it should have cost, (this is my first pen over $50 after all) I see people that say they pay mere $40 and then repair them themselves(I'm a lazy boy ). *Personally, at the end of the day, I feel like it was worth it for buying something that hit three major targets. *This sentence makes my entire post obsolete. P.S. I will do a review of it when I get it and when I get a chance. It'll also be my first review! Geez, it's a pen of firsts huh?(except it's not my first fountain pen.)

I'm wondering if this is a genuine Montblanc: it was listen simply as "fountain pen, nice looking, good condition" The words Montblanc Meisterstuck are etched into the silver coloured ring at the base of the cap; it has the six pointed star on top. It's fitted with a converter( have not flushed it yet, so it's exactly as I got it) Leather case, also with six pointed star on the catch, and MONT BLANC Hamburg At the bottom of the back. I just won an auction for a nice vintage Easterbrook J. Before I pay for it I would like some advice from some more experienced people. I know nothing about replacing ink sacs and such so would buying this pen be a good idea? Are vintage ink sacs cheap? Are they easy to replace? The seller says he has never used it. I wasnt sure where to post this, so hope it's ok here. Treated myself to this beautiful pen. After quite some time, it arrived today(after the last date in the listing) I did not expect it to be full of ink....which had leaked out, into the cap, and left a rust mark round the body of the pen, where the cap touches it: also, rust marks on the end of the filler mechanism. In the pictures on the listing, these marks were not shown - I held the pen against the picture, and there was a tiny mark in one of them, but nothing like the amount that there is, and no mention of it in the listing. Considering the cost of it, Im really unhappy about this. It's an absolutely beautiful pen, but I want to use it. I certainly did not expect it to be in this condition...and it was listed as working/useable, with no mention of these marks. It's beautiful I love it, I want to keep it, and Im hoping that the marks are basically 'cosmetic', and that I'll be able to clean them off( tried with a damp piece of kitchen roll, but no luck with that) I don't want to return it; but I *do* feel that it should not be in this condition. I've contacted the seller(yet to hear from him) and also eBay. Really don't know what, if anything I can do. My boss (producer/director of Sofia The First) has been a bit of a pen fancier but a little too much of a cheapskate to buy one, so when a Commando in good condition showed up on ebay, I bought it, had it reconditioned and gave it to him for Christmas. I knew he'd love something called a Commando, because he has a deep interest in The Good War, but I had no idea. He looks for opportunities to brandish it in public and he says it's changed his life. I feel like I've done something vaguely evil.

I have been "watching" couple of Pilot pens on bid (without participation). What I saw was that these pens final bid would be $ 30 - 40 lesser than the least buy price. So my question is about its quality. If any FPN members have participated in such bids, can they share their views on quality of pens received. What makes me skeptical is even when a pen is declared new, why should a seller sell a pen for USD 70 in bid, whereas the minimum listed sell price on ebay is anywhere from USD 100 to 115 - going upto over USD 250 (for exact same model) thanks.

Howdy, So I'm pretty new to Waterman pens (I'm new to the hobby as well, but I have done -some- research on P51's and mid 40-60's Sheaffer pens, specifically because I wanted an Imperial IV TD, which I got and love!) and was looking around for a decent, yet cheap, vintage flex. I saw a few sites out there selling refurbished flex pens and used that as a guide on what to look for on ebay and I came across this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Vintage-Waterman-Stalwart-Fountain-Pen-Ideal-14K-Canada-2-Nib-Vg-Cond-Works-/281257980826?ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:AU:3160 Fully working, #2 canadian nibbed Stalwart. In the small amount of research I've done, I've heard a few times that #2 ideal Canadian nibs are good for flex, but then I've had other people say that they're at best semi-flex. Also, the stalwart's don't seem to be that common (the search on this forum came up with only a few threads and very few of those were people who actually owned one). Would you say this pen was worth a $50 or so price tag including postage? Did I pay around average or did I get a deal? I don't mind if I got it for the average-ish price (I like the look of it and it seems that it should flex -enough- for what I need it for). Is there anything I should know about these as a first time owner of a waterman pen from the 40's (for ex - certain inks to avoid etc). From what I understand, they have an older feed type that can struggle to keep up, so I would imagine that a wetter ink would be appropriate, no? Cheers in advance - Josh

So, I got a pen case from easylivingus - a great, reliable seller who is based in China but ships from the UK. Not entirely sure how they manage it, but you get stuff within the week rather than the month! I'd previously ordered a 10 pack of Hero 616s that I use as competition prizes at school. Anyway, I wanted a new pen case and didn't want to pay through the nose, so I ordered one of these for £13.50 with free shipping. OK, so it's pleather and looks a little cheap (which it is) but it's sturdy on the outside and soft on the inside!
