    Parker Duofold Or Parker Premier

Hello fpn, So I've finally saved up enough money to get a new fountain pen, and I've narrowed down my choice to one of two pens: The Parker Duofold and the Parker Premier. Both of the pens appeal to me equally, though on different levels. The duofold is to me a nice classic timeless design, whereas the Premier is a very masculine and well-built modern design. Furthermore, I like the light-weight duofold for good ergonomics, but also like the Premier for a durable finish. So I really am stumped, so I just wanted to get some opinions from you guys.

    Pen Hunting Pays Off

Found these two at an estate sale last weekend. Super excited to get these working. Both need new sacs, and the imprint on the Duofold Jr. is definitely worn out. But, all in all, a very good day, and both of these were really good deals. I really wish I could thank my fellow pen hunter at the sale - I wouldn't have gotten the Duofold if it weren't for him, seeing as I'm a vintage pen newbie. -Prof

Parker Duofold - Been Duped? Worth Keeping?

Hi All, Need some assistance and was hoping y'all could help. Recently picked up a Parker Duofold Big Red that I thought was a winner (been looking for one for a while) but I think I may have been duped. Now not sure if I should keep... I was told it was a 1926 Parker Big Red and the images were fuzzy (no image of imprint). Today it arrived and here is what I got. Sorry for the bad images - that barrel says "Parker Duofold - Geo S. Parker - Made in USA" with no Lucky Curve banner and a date code of "8.". Ring/clip says 5-16. Christmas tree feed, Parker Duofold Pen P nib. Does anyone know what is going on with this pen? Everything fits together perfectly... Is it worth keeping? The pen is in amazing condition, looks barely used (cept for some slight brassing) but maybe the blind cap and end are replacements (they are very nice looking). Ohh, and I rubbed the (bleep) out of the cap and barrel and neither smelled liked rubber like my Lucky Curve Lady Ringtop... Thanks! CnB

    My Geat-Grandfather's Parker Duofold

Hello, I am interested in repairing my great-grandfather's red parker duofold. I believe to be from the late 20's but I that is just a guess and any information would be lovey. I enjoy history lessons. I would like to know what trim it is,(e.g. lucky curve, jounior, etc.) when it was made, and what size sac and other parts I will need. General repair tips are also quite welcome. Thanks, Carl Carney Here are links to photos that wouldn't upload:https://goo.gl/LFYaFJ https://goo.gl/CfnHK https://goo.gl/kwo3MT
  7. Hi all. I've been collecting the UK aerometric Duofolds in blue for a while now and have so far acquired a Slimfold, a Junior, a standard Duofold (which arrived this morning) and a Duofold Senior. I did some writing samples and took a picture of the pens to see if anyone else shared a love of them. I also did a silly thing. These pens are very similar looking, and the Duofold and Duofold Senior are fairly similar in terms of breadth. I meant to fill the Duofold with Diamine Blue Black; instead I picked up the Senior, which was already quite full of Diamine Sherwood Green. In doing so, I ruined the end of a 30ml bottle of Blue Black and created an insipid sort of teal. I think I'm going to purchase four of the Cult Pens Deep Dark series to go with these pens as they work so well with dark colours. http://i.imgur.com/POU6dJX.jpg Scanned Document by jrgard82, on Flickr

    An Oddball Duofold?

I ran across a set of old Parkers while cleaning out my office; they were given to me in the Eighties when I collected Vacumatics. The pen and two pencils are all the classic Duofold red, but the furniture is plated and there's no insignia on the barrels. The pen cap has two rings, which doesn't seem to correspond with the Duofolds in the pictures I've looked at. Am I looking at an old fake? The nib looks like a real one - an absolute nail. I'm mostly using old Moores and Watermans and I have some nice Vacumatics, but this one's a head-scratcher. Anyone know what I've got?
  9. Dear all, I am about to request a nib-exchange for my Parker Centennial and was wondering if someone among the parker usergroup could share their experience or writing sample comparing the the Broad Italic, Broad Oblique, Extra extra broad . I tend to prefer the broadest oblique Italic or stub nibs, but not at the cost of broad... given that Parker do not have an OBB or O3B on offer , I'll have to settle for one of the IB,OB or 3B which puts me in a quandry. would be fantastic if one of you experienced folks could share a writing sample comparing the any/all of the 3 nibs or share your experience in words (Line width, smoothness, Line-variation, spring, flex etc). Note : I dont have the quid for a custom grid by a nibmeister (but I might dare to do it myself at a later date...) . Note-2 : Parker team replied to my query with the following options : extra fine, broad, Needle Point, Fine Italic, Medium Italic, Broad Italic, Fine Oblique, Medium Oblique, Broad Oblique, Medium Reverse Oblique (left hander), Extra Broad, *Extra extra broad Thanks a ton

    1 X Duofold Centennial Or 2 X Carène ?

I have an oppurtunity to either go for a Duofold Centennial or for the same price, 2 waterman Carène s. Looks wise, both pens are pleasing to my eye (Carène IMV is stunning ). I have not handled the Centennial or seen one in person. I do have a waterman Carène and a Parker Premier(good styling, smooth nib, balance and weight) and both are out for a nib exchange (OB, B respectively). History, tradition, lineage or vintage for that matter don't generally sway me, unless it was THE pen used by Einstein or Marie Curie. What puts a smile on my face is a well engineered, good looking elegant pen that'll last a couple of generations if USED and looked after. The geek in me prefers pistons, Vaccumatics, Bulk fillers but I don't mind a CC either. I have large hands and dont like to post my pens. .M215 is the smallest pen that I can handle without posting. My little collection might give an insight. Lamy 2K steelPelikan M200 D(unused - too light), M215 Lozenge, M800, M1000Parker Sonnet Chinese laque (not often used, too light), Premier Deluxe Graduated ChisellingWaterman Carène Black sea GTPilot Custom 74 with FA nib (love the nib, hate the feed)Twsbi 540 and 7xx several with nib changed to custom ground Bocks (I grind my own nibs, if push comes to shove)Several beautiful large Ebonites and cellulites from unkown brands for which I have tuned the nibs, as the default ones were C&^p Cheers and would love to read your opinions on what would be a worthy addition (new and in-production pens)? -DOL
  11. does anybody have any idea what the last mark is on this nib?...i've not seen it before, i got the nib in a parts pen in a lot, and it appears to be a modified nib...italic, maybe, but not sure---more interested in the mark....thanks

English Parker Ns Duofold Nib Size

Does anyone happen to know which size aerometric English Duofold nib would be a good fit for a NS pen? I have only one NS and it has a Sheaffer nib. I'm inclined towards the standard (25), but I have seen a couple of AFs fitted with senior (35) nibs so I wonder if this would be a better size. . Thanks John

    Parker Duofold Centennial

Will a modern Parker Duofold Centennial nib unit & converter fit into any other manufacturer's barrel & cap? I have an extra, and would like to set it up to use regularly, but it's just impossible to buy spare barrels and caps.
  14. Hi - thought I'd share some photos of an excellent repair carried out by Peter Crook of Carneil Pens in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. I had been after a blue marble Parker Duofold (1990s) for some time, and got one from eBay. When it arrived, I discovered the lip was cracked, which apparently happens quite often due to overzealous cap tightening. The original lip is blue marble, like the rest of the cap except the top. Peter informed me that only black lips are available, so I went with that. I'm actually very happy with the result, I think it looks as good as the original. The black lip matches the top of the cap, and mirrors the black ends of the pen itself. I've attached some photos of the repair. Many thanks to Carneil pens for a great job.
  15. Hello all, I won this pen off an ebay auction for $42 a few days ago. It was listed as a Parker 51 vacumatic. After receiving the pen it says Parker Duofold 1 on it. I tried cross referencing it on sites like Richardspens to try to find out aproximate year that mine was made, but I'm having a hard time finding one just like this. I've found ones similar but they usually have a solid gold band on the cap not the two gold lines, or some minor difference. As far as I can tell it doesn't fill with ink, guessing bladder needs to be replaced. It was described in the auction as not tested with ink so I wasn't surprised. Can't for the life of me get the nib housing to unscrew from the body of the pen, actually twisted the nib around a bit but it went right back into place, no damage. Only other thing is it's missing it's clip but I found some on ebay for around $25 so I'll pick one up. Not sure how to attach it tho since the end of the cap has a small plastic threat like something should screw in and all the replacement ones I see look like just a round circle, so I guess I'd have to glue it on or find that cap that screws on. Anyhow any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. http://i.imgur.com/POWC1D4l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/jxYANgjl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TLSMmYal.jpg
  16. of all my recent ebay finds, this is the one that i've been using the most, very much a keeper and a user: the bexley-made woodgrain duofold centennial. i love the warmth of the ebonite, and the faceting is exquisite: http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5335/9310981903_89e416eeb4_z.jpg of all the modern parker nibs ever made, i consider the "banner" nib the most beautiful of them all, and it was used on this bexley: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7309/9310982625_e0de33a4a5_z.jpg i've seen this pen offered on the pentooling.com site for $450, and i was lucky to get it for considerably lower than that.
  17. I came in contact with a collector. We were sharing pics of our collections and he mentioned that he had 2 doufolds that he wanted to sell, but they had been left with some ink for a long time. so there feeds might be clogged. he offered them both for around 165$/101 pounds/127 euros shipped. Based on the information I got on the fountain pen network, I was aware that cleaning the feeds won't be a big deal. so I said yes. The pens didn't have boxes so he couriered them in a plastic pilot pen case.he even included 2 convertors one premium and the other cheaper slide one for them. finally the pens.... the parker international godron fp the parker international black gt fp with my 149...I guess because of the angle of the photo it is looking extra large. http://i.imgur.com/xhtbYz1.jpg the image included is of the pens after I had cleaned the pens feed. the pens were in excellent shape for there age... and only 1 pen had some black ink in the feed, the other was almost clean. P.s : excuse me for the photo. I clicked it with my phone and went a little overboard with the phone's photoeditor.
  18. Hi everyone! I recently found this pen in my grandfather's basement, and have been trying to figure out which model it is exactly. It is sadly missing the cap so, basically, I just want to know what the heck to call this pen so I can start buying parts for it or send it off for restoration. It has no identifying marks on the barrel, but 'Parker Fountain Pen, Canada 14K' is on the nib. After some research I have narrowed it down to (maybe--these are all guesses made by an amateur!) either a Duofold Junior (Deluxe?) or a Juniorette. It is a button fill. The pen itself is very small, similar in size to my Esterbrook SJ but a little longer and perhaps a smidgen thicker, at 4.25 inches long and about 10mm at its thickest on the barrel. Again, these measurements are without the cap so I cannot compare them to what I have found online, which are measurements of pens with the cap. I'm hoping someone can help me out and restore this! I don't have much from my grandpa, and with my love for pens, I would like to have this pen function like it once did back in the day. I've attached a couple photos. Sorry about the quality, couldn't get the camera to focus, lighting is terrible... I have no idea how to take pictures of pens haha. Thanks!
  19. I recently got this parker Duofold from my grandpa. I have been doing a lot of research and I haven't really come up with anything. I know it is a Duofold, and I think it is probably streamline, but I couldn't find anything about the original box that it is in, and the date it was all made, and the pen and pencil set together. I don't even know if the directions are commonly found with Duofolds from this era. Anyways, if you have ANY information about this awesome pen I would love to hear about it. Thanks!

    Into The Duofold

Now I don't know much about pens, but I know what I like. And I do like this Duofold. It's currently on sale and I am considering whether it's worth shelling out for it. I've asked for better pictures but for now we will have to make do with these. Googling Parker sites teaches me this might be a Duofold Lucky Curve from the 1920s, but that just seems to good to be true. Could anyone ID this with more certainty? Also: what would be a reasonable price? Many thanks!
  21. My summer job is almost over and the pay check is soon to be cashed. I have decided to treat myself to a new pen having not acquired a new one for a while. I have narrowed down the options to two, the Parker Duofold Centennial in marble acrylic or the Visconti Homo Sapiens Oversize Steel Age. I already own a MB 146, an M800 and a Waterman Carene. I can get the two pens for similar prices and would be using them daily, taking notes etc at university. I'm drawn to the Visconti because of the superior nib and ink capacity but the Parker is more of a classic and, I think, the better looking. To those who own one or both which would you recommend?

    Pompeian Brown Duofold Jr

Just inherited about 30 beautiful vintage fountain pens, one of which I am having a difficult time identifying. It's a flat top Parker duofold jr lucky curve with two gold bands on the cap. But it has a chocolate brown cap and end, with a black body. Is this a pompeian brown? I haven't seen a photo of one to be sure...

    Pen Id Help. Please

So this black pen, that was sold to me as a Maxima, arrived today. It's a nice big fat pen, but it doesn't match the English Maxima that I have at all. It's a different size and shape, both shorter and fatter. They do not have the same markings or the same clips or nibs. Any ideas?
  24. I recently became the owner of an excellent Big Red in great shape. While the pen has been restored, I am concerned that the free-rotating cap band will become a problem in the future. Is there some way to fix this? I am worried that any rushed attempt by me would result in unsightly stains on the cap, and would also not help the band do its job - of preventing the cap from developing cracks. Any advice would be appreciated. I included some pics for much needed eye candy. http://i.imgur.com/0nBPr0h.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XnwCwUJ.jpg
  25. Hi everyone! I recently purchased a vintage Parker Duofold in a stunning bright Lapis Lazuli celluloid, an absolutely gorgeous pen. When I deceided to take it apart for servicing and cleaning, I was disapointed to discover, hidden behind the section a large crack on the nib. I have no competence for fixing this kind of problems, I live in France and would like to know if anyone knew serious nibmeisters in Europe. A pic of the nib is attached. Many thanks, Jeremy
