    The Momo Design Alumina Collection!

With the Alumina collection, Delta and Momo Design continue their ground breaking partnership with a new collection of writing instruments that are painstakingly machined from solid bars of aluminum for strength, and then anodized for lasting beauty. It was in 1992 when Delta added a new page to the world's history in writing instruments when a partnership was formed between the companies to bring forward technology and innovation which resulted in the world’s first Carbon Fiber pen collection. Today the partnership is renewed as both companies collaborate to produce a stunning new collection that conveys both Momo Designs dedication to racing culture and Delta’s meticulous attention to the engineering of premium quality writing instruments. Alumina comes in three distinct modes: twist ballpoint, capped rollerball and fountain pen. The fountain pen fills via standard international cartridge or converter and utilizes a smooth writing stainless steel nib available in Fine, Medium and Broad. The anodized aluminum collection is available in three vivid colors: blue, black and titanium.

  3. Hy, like promised a short review of this pen. I like it very very much. Nice weight and the colours matches the theme excellently. (I was there once). In real it is more blue and sparkling than on tce crappy Fotos. One of the smoothest fine nibs I ever tested and quite a thin line for a European nib. Here the Fotos, hope you enjoy....

  8. Since the acquisition of a Dolce Vita few weeks back, I have been enamoured by Delta pens. So when an attractive offer came up, I didn't hesitate to acquire the 2nd Delta pen in my collection-Delta Kristal. There seems to be very little literature out there on this series of pens (I wonder why!) and I am distracted from work on a Friday afternoon-so here goes: First Impressions (08/10) The Kristal comes in a cardboard box with a motif imprinted on it-I guess it is the design from the central ring of the Dolce Vitas. Inside the box is some literature on Delta, and two further boxes with the pen and some cartridges. The packaging is nowhere near as nice as that of the DVs. Even for a functional packaging, it is not in the Lamy 2000 league. I do care a bit about packaging, and this is certainly not the best of what I have come across so far. Design and Built (09/10) The pen itself is nicely built, and is nestled in a spongy bed. It is made of high quality resin with rhodium trims. The one I have got is in black colour scheme. The cap is turned from a solid bar of black resin, whilst the body is translucent with black design. The translucent acrylic has some nice depth to it. The central ring is similar to that of the DV and is probably made of sterling silver. Unlike the DVs, the cap is missing the small wheel at the end, and there is no cap rings. Overall, this is a nice looking pen-quintessentially Delta. Nib (09/10) The pen comes with a steel nib. The nib had some skipping issues in the first few strokes but has been smooth since then. As with all steel nibs, there is no flex, but lays down nice wet line. I have also attached pictures of the Kristal with its more celebrated cousin. Enjoy!

    Adding To My Italians...

I pulled out my Pentrace 2004 Limited Edition that had been sitting for quite sometime, filled with PR Avocado (the newer formula) and it started right up! (Is Filcao still in business?) I have just added a Stipula Passoporto (the one I mentioned under the repair thread) and I did just order the Stipula Israel 65 as a gift to my husband.... All this got me thinking about my Italians....I have more than I realized! Delta (2), Filcao (3), Aurora(2), and Stipula (2)....
  12. Delta Fusion 82, Limited Edition Celluloid, "Black Desert", Medium "Fusion" Nib (No. 06 of 16) Chatterley Luxuries was running an excellent sale and I picked up this Chatterley exclusive, limited-edition, celluloid fountain pen at a considerable savings over the normal price. First Impression. Rating: 9 The elegant box, inserts, and graphics are very well done. The box showcases the pen nicely. It’s a little on the large size, so I’ll probably just stash it away, but it makes a good first impression. The pen itself is nicely nestled in a felt-covered cradle, well protected, and well displayed. Included in the box are three ink cartridges, and a converter was installed in the pen. Appearance. Rating: 9 The pen is a classic cigar shape, totally machined from a block of brown and black mottled Celluloid. The brown material has some shimmer/sparkle...very attractive and fascinating. There are no end caps/jewels, either on the barrel or the cap; just a smooth, continuous line. The hardware (furniture) is gold plated and appears to be well done. The pocket clip is very tight and very solid. I took a point away because I’m not in love with the clip design...it looks a little odd. Design/Size/Weight. Rating: 10 This is a substantial pen. Not oversize but probably not the best for someone with small hands. Being all Celluloid except for the clip, nib, and trim rings, it’s very lightwight considering its size. To me, it's a pen I could write with all day without fatigue. Dimensions:Length Capped: 143mm, 5.63”Length Posted: 157mm, 6.2”Length Uncapped: 126mm, 5”Nib Length: 25mm, 1”Cap Diameter: 15mm, 0.58”Section Diameter: 10.8mm, 0.42”Barrel Diameter: 13.6mm, 0.53”Overall Weight (Filled): 25 gramsNib. Rating: 8 The Medium Fusion nib is stainless steel with a gold overlay attached (fused?) to a portion of the top. According to Delta, this gold overlay is supposed to improve the viscosity of the ink and somehow improve the ink flow. I have seen nothing that would support this claim. The nib itself is extremely smooth, and the ink flow is wet without being a gusher. The nib is a nail...very rigid with no noticeable flex or line variation. In performance, it reminds me of some vintage Sheaffer nibs; smooth but very stiff. Great for normal writing but not if you’re trying to get fancy. Filling System. Rating: 10 Cartridge/Converter. A Delta-labeled screw-type converter was installed in the pen. Since it screws into the section instead of the common push-in converter, there should be no problems with the converter pulling loose and leaking, Because of this, I rated it a 10. Cost and Value. Rating: 8 I purchased this on sale from Chatterley Luxuries and saved a considerable amount over their normal pricing. As a limited edition fountain pen, well made from high-quality materials, and with excellent performance, I gave it a 8. If the nib had some softness or flexibility, I would have given it a 9. Conclusion. Total Rating: 9.0 I am very, VERY pleased with this pen. It’s made from beautiful, high-quality materials, with an excellent design, great attention to details, very comfortable in the hand, and performs great. If it only had a more flexible nib, it would be close to perfect. I plan on keeping this beauty in my regular rotation and giving it a lot of use! Additional Photos: Outer Box Box Cover Off: The Pen! 16. I can't say enough good things about this gorgeous fountain pen, specially created for our pen club by Delta Pen. It is, quite simply, a stunning piece of workmanship and Italian design. For the full story on how this beautiful limited edition piston-filler was made for us, please check out Glenn Marcus' online article (with better photos than mine) here: http://www.glennspens.com/pensofnote/delta-caruso-vancouverpenclub.html Many thanks to Delta's President Nino Marino and designer extraordinaire Salvatore Matrone for producing this pen---Grazie mille!--- and to Ross Cameron at YAFA, Delta's distributor in North America, for getting the pens safely to us in Vancouver. Both pens are wonderful to use---the Fine "Fusion" nib on my Dolcevita Slim is lovely to write with, and the Stub "Fusion" nib on my new Limited Edition VPC pen is silky smooth. My orange two-pen case (shown above) is part of Delta's Markiaro leather line of pen accessories.
  17. I was in Paradise Pens in Somerset mall, Troy, MI. And I was informed that there was going to be Delta trunk sale on 17th December. I realise I risk loosing a nice pen to someone else, but I would feel worse if I didn't share this information.
  18. Delta made a special run of the Delta Momo fountain pen and we bought all 5 of the rutherium trim. Only 5 of this pen with the demonstrator style cap and barrel and the rutherium trim exist. Each pen is numbered, 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5, or 5/5. We have already sold some so they wont last long. http://www.penchalet.com/images/specialedition/IMG_0602.jpg http://www.penchalet.com/images/specialedition/IMG_0608.jpg http://www.penchalet.com/images/specialedition/IMG_0610.jpg

  21. -This review is an adapted version of the one that can be found on my personal blog (www.pencilcaseblog.com). Visit my blog for more pictures, a copy of the written review and of course many other pen, pencil, paper and ink reviews. Enjoy the review! (Full Delta Journal review: http://www.pencilcaseblog.com/2014/10/delta-journal-fusion-stub-nib.html )- I often say I hate brightly colored pens, which is easily noticeable because about 90 percent of my collection consists of black or grey pens. However, things have changed recently! There's been a few non-black pens recently that just caught my attention right away. One of these pens is the Delta 'The Journal' in Pearl red. The moment I saw it in real life (Which was also the first time I heard of the 'journal' collection from Delta!), it was just desitined to become mine! I got mine at a pretty good price from Fontoplumo while I was at the Tilburg pen show. Surprisingly enough, Fontoplumo is -for now at least- the only european retailer I know that sells these. This is the first Delta in my collection, and I'm thoroughly impressed with the design, the performance, the packaging... everything really! The rather large dimensions (long, but especially wide. Something that can be seen more often with Deltas offerings!) Are also part of the WOW-factor with this pen. It's not ridiculous, but it starts to lean towards oversized. A bit like the E-motion from Faber-Castell, it's big, and it feels big, but it doesn't bother me the least! The grip section too is fairly wide, though perfectly shaped (You guessed it: concave-shaped!) I can't help but think concave-shaped grip sections are the best! I can't be the only one who thinks that, right?! The build quality is -almost- spot on, with two imperfections that slightly bothered me. First of all, the decorative ring at the top of the section, just above the threads, rotates. It's strange though, it rotates, but it doesn't move up or down at all! Now I can live with that, because it really isn't noticeably when using the pen. The second issue is a bit more frustrating: the gold part of the nib (the 'fusion' part if you will.) is scuffed quite badly. And the fact that the metal part (the nib itself) is perfectly polished makes it even more obvious to the eye! If i had to put a score on build quality, these two small flaws would make me rate it 6 or 7 out of 10, which is a shame because I'm one-hundred percent sure Delta can do better! The rest of the pen is pretty much flawless. Fit and finish is spot on, except for the ever so slightly noticeable 'bump' where the blind cap meets the barrel - no big deal though. All parts are perfectly polished, and seem to be quite scratch-resistant! As I mentioned, I absolutely love the color scheme! The red is vibrant, though not over the top, and the pearlescent silver flecks give the material a lot of depth. Together with the subtle ruthenium-plated hardware, this is one very good looking pen! The Journal has a very satisfying and well-balanced weight. It's by no means heavy, it just feels right (I'm sorry if that's the most vague description you ever heard!). The cap doesn't hold much weight on its own, so posting is actually surprisingly comfortable as well. A small and almost not noticeable detail I really like about it, is the subtly engraved Delta logo and pen number on the back of the cap (It's a numbered edition, not limited!). It's the only branding on the outside of the pen, and it looks just right! As I mentioned, this pen comes with a cartridge converter, though it's a semi-integrated one. This basically means the pen can be filled like a traditional piston-filler by unscrewing the blind cap, which reveals the piston knob. It comes packaged with a small bottle of Delta blue ink, so everything is included to get started! Now for the 'magic and unicorns' part of the review. Or as most people would call it: the nib! The Fusion nib is often mocked for being wasted money and a load of nonsense! And I can't but agree with those opinions! Yes, it's an expensive nib, especially because you're still writing with steel, the gold addition doesn't physcally do anything, except for making the nib stiff as a nail! The fact that they put a piece of gold on top of a piece of steel is nothing more than a Fashion statement at most! But you won't hear me complain about it, because nonsense or not, this nib is GOOD! It's a broad 1.5mm stub, and it's the best I have (compared to a lamy 1.5 and a pretty solid second: the TWSBI 1.5 stub!). It's very smooth, the flow is spot on, wet and consistent enough to deal with every situation (I encountered absolutely NO skipping at all!) and the amount of shading that can be achieved is awesome! I too was, or rather, am skeptical about the actual use of the gold layer, but man! This nib is pretty darn awesome! Easily one of the best steel nibs I ever used! The great performance shouldn't be a surprise, because for a steel-nibbed pen, it's pretty expensive! It can be bought with a normal steel nib for around 150 EUR/ 200 USD, while the Fusion version goes for a quite hefty 250 EUR/ 350 USD! It doesn't feel overpriced though, I absolutely love the way it looks, and apart from some small particular issues, it's very well-made. If you're really not keen on the red pearl finish, there are other beautiful acrylics available as well as different trim options!

    Delta Yellow

[TL;DR: Too bright to be of much use; difficult/awful performance on most papers; very nice hue; I am ambivalent about it.] Here’s another yellow ink, maybe the purest yellow ink there is. I’m talking about ‘Delta Yellow’, of course. Before I start talking, let’s have a quick look at it: http://null.aleturo.com/Dumatborlon/5EGr+sk;%E2%98%89;summaprada;jpeg-01136.jpeg Boy, this ink is BRIGHT! ‘Which glasses do I need to read YELLOW?’, my middle school teacher used to sigh in exasperation whenever someone wrote in yellow crayon (yes, some of us thought it was a good idea at that time―and to be host, just that sigh alone was worth it ^^). After so much time, I finally get what he meant: This ink is all but illegible. No matter what paper you’re using, it is so bright that you have to get real close to the page to be able to decipher what’s written there. From more than a few inches away, all you see are yellow scribbles. The scans and the photograph are lying: The markings all but glow on the page, which of course cannot be conveyed by an image. The ink is much brighter I.R.L. than on both of the images. And I thought that scanning ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ was difficult… http://null.aleturo.com/Dumatborlon/5EGq+sk;%E2%99%84;summaprada;ppm-00013.jpeg The colour is the essence of yellowness. The colour does not lean to either green nor orange, as most yellows tend to do. It’s a very pure, primary yellow. This at least becomes quite clear from the scans. Because of this, the colour is practically meant to be paired to other primary colours. You might have noticed that I like to colour-code whatever I am writing. The other two colours on the scan are Parker Quink royal blue (washable) and Montblanc rouge. I think Waterman red would work even better alongside this yellow. But as already said: This ink really pairs well, also with more difficult colours like Noodler’s Polar brown, but see for yourself: http://null.aleturo.com/Dumatborlon/5EGr+sk;%E2%98%89;summaprada;ppm-00015.jpeg Other than that, it’s a very difficult ink. I’ve used it in an Online ‘College’ pen with a medium, which probably was one of the worst choices that I could make, but that was the pen that just happened to need refilling. In hindsight, I should have known: That particular pen is prone to skipping and poor flow, the only ink that really worked with it so far was Montblanc rouge (you can still see the stains of that colour in the photographs). In my opinion, this colour really needs the wettest-flowing pen with the broadest nib that you can find. As soon as the current charge in my Safari is used up, I’ll redo the review with that one, that will be a fairer comparison. The more technical stuff will be somewhat biased because of this. Well, at least in this pen, the ink is extremely dry and just a pain to write with. If it starts up at all, it almost requires force to keep a flow going and is almost as if writing with a ballpoint pen. A day later, presumably as the feed is now finally saturated or whatever, the situation has somewhat improved. Given the right paper, it writes much more wetly. As long as the line is still drying, you can even see what you are writing. After that, you almost need special equipment, see below. ) Don’t use absorbent paper with this ink! It will make you really hate it. This ink is meant for good paper, which unfortunately I don’t have. Yet. Surprisingly enough, the University-issued notepads perform reasonably well with this ink. But with crappier paper, this ink will bite you. Seriously, don’t do it! Surprisingly enough, the ink does seem to shade to some degree. It is so bright that it’s really difficult to tell; since the colour on the scan is a little darker than on paper, one can see some shading, especially on the high-resolution scan. On the plus side, there does not seem to be any feathering. There is some bleedthrough, though. But it’s yellow, so it’s unlikely to be as annoying as with, say, a brown ink. http://null.aleturo.com/Dumatborlon/5EGq+sk;%E2%99%84;summaprada;ppm-00014.jpeg Here’s another close-up of the shading, done on somewhat glossy paper: http://null.aleturo.com/Dumatborlon/5EGr+sk;%E2%98%89;summaprada;ppm-00022b.jpeg As usual, the hand-written review is on a Steinbeis Classic White recycling paper, which is a poor choice. That paper is almost off-white (which is what I like about it), but of course that makes the already poor contrast even poorer. If I had some bright-white paper, I’d compare to that. On the recycling paper, the scribbles are all but illegible. Don’t even consider using a tinted paper. The ink is not very saturated and all but vanishes on brown, orange, red and green paper. On deep blue, you can still see it, about as well as on white paper (which is to say: not very much). I’ve tried scanning that, but it’s pointleß. As expected, there is no water resistance. An eight minute drop test removed all traces of the ink from the paper. On the up side, once dry it does not tend to smear. It dries rather quickly. So what to make of it? As opposed to De Atramentis’s Mahatma Gandhi, which is dark enough to be actually used, Delta Giallo is so bright that it’s more of a novelty ink than anything else. It’s too bright and unsaturated for use as a highlighting ink, and way too bright for headlines. It does not light up in blacklight; in fact, it remains invisible even there. Curiously, on the photograph that I took, the yellow line went pitch black, see below. So maybe it will make a good semi-secret ink. http://null.aleturo.com/Dumatborlon/5EGr+sk;%E2%98%89;summaprada;jpeg-01140.jpeg Also, it looks to be just perfect for a demonstrator pen; it already looks very nice in the semi-transparent grip section of my ‘College’ pen, but it should look absolutely gorgeous in a fully transparent pen. In conclusion, I certainly like the colour. As already said: It’s the essence of yellowness, a very nice colour. But I can’t see any good way to use it. I will try to use it in a more properly behaved pen and see if that changes anything, but until then I don’t think I will keep using this ink. I still have half a vial left, so if anyone wants to see the ink on paper, just drop me your address and I’ll send you a postcard or something. It’d be a funny experiment to write the address itself in this colour, but I have a feeling that the postman will hunt and murder me if I do so. ;o) Thanks for making it this far; I know I always write too much. ^^ Zefon Edit: Shading close-up

    Delta Dolce Vita - Japan

Hi All, Living in New Zealand there is no where to buy Delta pens and with crazy high customs and duties buying online makes them very expensive. I'm heading to Japan in September and one of my grail pens is the Dolce Vita...so I will try and pick one up when I am there (along with a few other goodies as well). Does anyone have any experience buying a Delta in Japan and any recommendations around where to purchase?. I will be in Kyoto and Tokyo and perhaps go to Osaka & Kobe, so those are my options... Thanks Craig
  25. I was just poking around, trying to figure out who makes new lever-filling pens today. This was once the most common, dominant method of filling fountain pens, and now it's almost extinct. The only ones I turned up easily are from Delta, plus some limited editions (which look particularly nice) from Conway Stewart. I think some other companies may have made limited edition lever-fillers in the recent past, but I can't find any in current catalogs. Have I missed anything?
