  1. Sailor Kenshin

    Goat!

Got Your Goat De Atramentis Goat ink is part of their Zodiac series. The color is an intense, vivid, almost electric fuschia. A while back, I had a sample vial of DA Fuschia, which I put in a needlepoint-nibbed Delike New Moon. It, too, showed flat color, with little shading, and it seemed stingy and dry, so it frustrated me a bit. I like this Zodiac ink much more than the sample of Fuschia, because it's in the more generous Dollar Demonstrator... something to keep in mind for future bright-color inking. Dry time? Pretty swift. For which this southpaw is grateful. Water 💦 resistance? Nope. See? Though I seldom drop water on my writing, except like now, when it's on purpose. It's a cheerful color, and makes me smile. http://extras.ourpatioparty.com/files/7015/8928/2477/Goat-640p.jpg The 'chroma' reveals a single color element. http://extras.ourpatioparty.com/files/4615/8928/2476/Goat_Chroma-640p.jpg Many thanks to Amberleadavis, Supreme Inky En-Abe-Lawyer , for allowing me to try this ink!
  2. Hello everybody! It's my first time in this subforum, so please alert me if I'm doing something wrong. I have somehow accumulated over 20 different bottles of ink and 50 samples in the past two years. Love the variety, but some of these bottles don't get much use, and the ink in them just ages on my shelf. That's been bothering me a lot, since they're actually superb inks that just have had the bad luck of ending up in the hands of someone who doesn't appreciate them the way they deserve. So I'd like to send some of these out as big 5ml samples to anyone who's interested, in exchange for the same courtesy. I feel that that way, each of us gets to try new inks, and since everybody would pay postage, it wouldn't cost one more than the other. 3. I have always loved and used Herbin Rouille D'Ancre, which, for all its quirks (listed elsewhere) I find to be a unique "Gentleman's Pink". . . . . until I discovered a near doppelganger which, ulp, might be an improvement on the original (although similarly loathed by reviewers on here!). . . . . and then yesterday a third, although this one tends a bit more "rust" . . . . which might also make it the salmon/coral that I have been searching for but not yet found? Still in the heady days of first love here, so I'll report back with clearer spectacles as the roses fall off, but here's a first sample: Another arrangement: I didn't label them as a kind of a quiz! One is the French original, one is from Japan (ergo costly as a US import), and one is from Germany - but which is which? (I'd be happy to tell, if anyone is interested!)
  4. 3 De Atramentis Brown Inks that I couldn't find distinguished elsewhere. Umber : Havanna : York Brown (with a few other tobacco leaves thrown in)
  5. Hello again De Atramentis Document Ink - The new colours Back in 2014 I reviewed the first De Atramentis Document inks. Back then they were the first Non Iron Gall Document inks on the Market. I used them for my work and extensively tested them back then https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/266158-de-atramentis-document-ink-dark-blue/ Since then more Manufacturers produced ink this way (Maybe with the exception of Diamine who already, just like D-A had an Registrars Ink in their assortment) De Atramentis quickly widened their range of Document inks with Brown Green and more importantly Cyan Magenta Yellow black https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/275148-de-atramentis-document-cmyk-inks-mixing-experiment/ With the CMYK collection all colours can be mixed, which makes them popular among Painters like Liz Steel https://www.lizsteel.com/de-atramentis-document-inks/ But I will come back to that later. For lazy people like me, or clumsy people like me fortunately the range of ready mixed inks has been extended now to a total number of 17 inks. Bombproof! To be qualified as a document ink the ink must meet certain standards. The standard in Europe is ISO 12757-2. This means that the ink must be lightfast and may not be influenced by any outer influences. This way the ink written text cannot be deleted/altered without leaving traces This makes the ink suitable to be use din the registry and legal documents Please see the tests below to get an impression of the resilience of these Document ink The ink is extremely lightfast. This is tested and certified with the Woll-Skala, wool scale in English. This may sound peculiar but it isn’t that strange on second glance. In history quite often, the same pigments used for Dyeing wool where used for inks as well. The Woll-Skala reaches from 1 not lightfast over 5 extremely lightfast to 8 extremely lightfast. The ink “of course” is WS 8. There are other resilient inks like inks based on iron gall or soot. The problem is that iron gall inks are very aggressive to both paper and nib. (the paper of old Dutch documents from the golden age are often eaten away partially by the ink) Both iron gall and soot inks may also clog the feed of your fountain pen. The De Atramentis inks are, made with nano-particles pigments which, in contrary to (some) Iron Gal are safe for use in fountain pens, a thing which is also confirmed by legendary fountain pen expert Richard binder I again have tested the “indestructibility” of this ink here again. Inks that meet the standards for document standards (for i.e. the Registry) must be light fast waterproof resistant against acid and other chemicals. Als it is important that written text cannot be corrected/removed without leaving visible traces. Take De Atramentis for a dive Bad Breath test. What Vampires are allergic to, De Atramentis masters wiht grace ( I thought about testing it with methane gas, but I thought may be I should spare you the proces it is not a pretty view ) Drown me in CHLORINE I will be Fine Don´t try this at home kids (at least not when mummie is looking ) It even doesn´t give a sh.t about acid The 2018 De Atramentis Document Ink collection Well that was a lengthy introduction let´s see the inks now. I have made both photos and scans of the ink tests. Photos were made outside in non direct light White Balance was determined by using a grey card (Lightroom correction were solely made in enhancing lighting) Photos are on the left side, scans on the right side of the picture (I found it pretty hard to process the photos in Lightroom because of the high contrasts between Black and White and Ink colours maybe TAS can help me here? Written samples using a medium nib fountain pen Q-Tipp samples Ink Vomitus Samples Written samples using an italic 1.9 nib De Atramentis Document Ink White Colour Mixing and CMYK Mixing I already mentioned that the De Atramentis Document inks are popular among artists who use them for painting and sketching. In contrary to Monitors that emit light in a Mixture of Red Yellow and Blue (RGB) Ink on paper reflect the incoming light in different colours. The Colours used here Cyan, Magenta Yellow and Black (Key). That means that all colour are basically a mixture of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow using Black to darkening or deepening the colours https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/272906-de-atramentis-thinning-agent-for-document-inks/ De Atramentis document thinning agent vs De Atramentis document ink white I experimented with both the with ink and the thinning agent. For me it was hard to do effective testing though to differentiate the two, so maybe I should ask Jane Blundell to do a better Job The left sheet is the one I used in my recent tests the right of earlier tests in 2014 https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/272906-de-atramentis-thinning-agent-for-document-inks/ https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/301933-pastelize-your-life-permanently-de-atramentis-document-ink-white/ Jane Blundell´s mixes of De Atramentis document inks Back in 2014 Australian watercolour artist Jane Blundell already experimented with mixing De Atramentis Document inks on her Blog using the CMYK inks and the other De Atramentis document inks then available https://janeblundellart.blogspot.com/2014/11/mixing-document-inks.html 2014 Jane Blundell Mixes She updated these tests most regularly the latest I discovered can be found here https://janeblundellart.blogspot.com/ Jane Blundell's 2018 Mixes So maybe check her website to enjoy some beautiful works of art and to be inspired by her colour mixes Availability La Couronne Du Comte I guess Dennis and Rik would even travel to the moon to get it for you (just pay them a million or 2 ) Well it is safe to say that they do almost everything to satisfy their customers http://www.lacouronneducomte Bankers have Rothshield Ink lovers have the Goulet Pen Company. Diamine Teal Vs De Atramentis Pigeon Blue

Diamine Teal vs. De Atramentis Pigeon Blue Both these inks are inspired by colour found on birds For the people who have no knowledge of birds. The Bird on the Right is a Parakeet which modelled for Diamine and the bird on the right is a bald eagle which inspired De Atramentis Colour Comparison Just as these birds and their colour are different both inks and birds also have some familiarities The De Atramentis ins seems to be a bit bright like the colour on the Pigeon. The Teal to my eyes is darker Ink Behaviour Both inks are very smooth writers ad well saturated. Neither of these ink feater bleed or show through. Although there is no sheening in neither of these inks they do shade The Pigeon blue seems a little bit better but the diference is neglectible Both inks seem to hold their liquor I smeared both inks with wet fingers but both texts stay legible Availability La Couronne du Comte I guess Dennis and Rik would even travel to the moon to get it for you (just pay them a million or 2) Well it is safe to say that they do almost everything to satisfy their customers… Considering http://www.lacouronneducomte Bankers have Rothshield Ink lovers have the Goulet Pen Company. De Atramentis Steel Blue

De Atramentis Steel Blue I first started using this ink when De J sent me a Diplomat Aero Fountain Pen in Blue as a thank you for the great ink comparison of all De Atramentis inks I made. Somehow I find this Steel Blue ink quite well fitting to the Blue of the Fountain Pen Before I start I hereby mention that that I will compare this ink with Diamine Majestic blue soon. The reason for this is somewhat peculiar, both inks smear strongly when a drop of water is spilled on it, even after a long period of drying. But no worries both inks are very beautiful. So I will not only post a comparison of both inks, I will also write a review of that lovely Diamine Majestic Blue ink De Atramentis Steel Blue Ink As with most De Atramentis ink it is a smooth writer. The ink flows nicely and does not feather (I said most because sometimes there are badges of some De Atramentis inks that do) Again as with most De Atramentis Inks it dries very quickly…With less than 2 seconds the Steel Blue is an ultra-fast drying ink which should be perfect for left-hand writers points 1-5 1 = 5= Fountain Pens: Diplomat Excellence A medium Nib / Online Best Writer 1.8 Italic Nib Paper: Waldmühle Reflex Premium Drying time: ULTRA fast points 5 Flow: very smooth points: 5 Lubrication: smooth in both pens points: 5 Bleeding: absent) Points 5 Shading: medium points: 3 Waterproof: Keeps staining with water points: 3 Package: Nice bottle points: 4 Text Sample Fluid smooth writing well saturated and… Funnily it is a medium shader but it is a nice sheener to 😊 Sheeny confusion OOPS I am a pillock The ink stain in the middel is of course De Atramentis STEEL BLUE, the Diamine Majstiv blue is in the upper right corner... Whisky Brown - De Atramentis

De Atramentis is german manufacturer of calligraphy and writing ink. The inks are hand made (the entire production process is done manually in their manufacturing center) by i's founder - Dr. Franz-Josef Jensen. I believe he uses high quality dyes from well established European companies like BASF and Bayer. Whisky Brown is one of De Atramentis scented inks. It really smells like whisky. Bad whisky, but still like one. The color is, well, brown wannabe. It looks like someone needed to save money and did third cafe au lait without adding freshly grounded beans. Personally I find this color rather ugly. While I enjoy most browns this one looks pathetic. The flow is average and lubrication is poor. Not recommended. Drops of ink on kitchen towel Software ID Leuchtturm 1917, Kaweco Classic Sport, B Lamy Al-Star, Leuchtturm1917, B Comparison Edit: I've changed the title of the post - the name of the ink is Whisky Brown and not whiskey. On the other hand though discussion about whisky and wshiskey is fascinating so please carry on

Deepwater Obsession Black-Red has stunning color that I Like a lot. I like almost everything about this ink. It has however one unpleasant behaviour - it feathers on absorbent papers. 10. I think I got this ink sample a looooonnnggg time ago, back when I was still enrolled in Ink Drop. That was before I formed my huge fondness for blue-black inks, so it sat and waited for the right time. And now, I hardcore need a bottle of this ink my life. This is a dark ink. At first you might mistake it for black, but it’s not. It’s also unlike most other blue-black inks I’ve tried in that it does not dry to some grey-blue color. It stays vibrant and crisp and dark, which I like. As you can see, this ink almost looks like a teal-black, and I have heard that this is what can happen when you mix certain types of blue with black - you get something that can look green, but in fact it is just blue+black. I don’t know if this is the case with most De Atramentis inks since the only other one I’ve used is also a quite dark color, Alexander Hamilton (purple), but in both of these inks it appears the black component is quite waterproof, which makes this an ink that would be favorable to everyday writing. Especially since I found it had really good flow and no troubles on most paper, though it did feather a bit on index cards: Overall, I really like this ink and it’ll be on my short-list of things to buy once I am at my new job and getting decent paychecks. The only bummer for me is the price. While a bottle is not that expensive (roughly $13 here in the States), you don’t get that much ink, since they are 35 mL bottles. Granted, for me that’s fine since it would be a challenge to even finish a bottle that small in a reasonable amount of time, but if you are looking for an ink that can be chewed through on a daily basis, this might not be it for you. I bought a bottle of Noodler’s Air Corps Blue-Black because the colors looked similar, but they are different enough for me to justify buying this one as well. Be on the lookout for that review coming next week or the week after… This ink was purchased with my own money and I am not being compensated for this review in any way. All opinions above are my own and you are free to disagree with them if you like. Full page scan of the review:

    De Atramentis Dark Reseda Green

De Atramentis fountain pen inks are hand made in Germany by Dr. Franz-Josef Jansen, and come in a 35ml glass bottle. The company has been producing inks for about 30 years so there is a proven track record here. These inks are said to be hand made – the entire production process is done manually in the manufacturing center. The thing that influence their quality and, sadly, price is the fact that Dr. jansen uses only dyes from well established german companies like BASF. De Atramentis inks are sold in 35 ml glass bottles. I enjoy the way this bottle look and I find them practical. Some of DA inks come in black glass that’s supposed to protect the ink from light. I enjoy trying products of smaller companies, especially the ones that creators put a lot of heart and energy in developing their business and products. I believe Dr. Jansen is such a person. He’s developed literally hundreds of inks indifferent categories. I’ve tried just a small quantity of his inks. I’ve enjoyed some and disliked some. It’s normal. I'm still eager to get to know most of DA inks. De Atramentis inks are grouped into categories like Standard inks, Document inks, Black Edition inks. Also on De ATramentis website you can find a lot of topic related inks (places, signs of zodiac, history, business, music, literature etc.). Most of them are renamed standard inks. Dark Reseda Green is, undoubtedly, one of wettest inks in my collection. It flows generously from both finer and broader nibs. While the color is not really my first choice I rather like it. It's quite similar to Sailor Miruai but lighter. The lubrication is satisfying, drying times are reasonable unless you write with double broad nib on unabsorbent paper. In this case, you'll have to wait a bit. There's some water resistance to this ink. I would say this is ink with character that may be suitable for most everyday uses. Ink splash Drops of ink on kitchen towel Software ID Color range Rhodia, Visconti van Gogh, fine nib Leuchtturm 1917, Kaweco Classic Sport, B Leuchtturm 1917, Omas Paragon Grand, medium nib Water resistance
  12. Does anyone have both inks and could enlighten me as to what their differences are? I've been eyeing that colour for quite some time now, and my local art supply store still has plenty of stock of the LE ink. Dominique

    De Atramentis Document Ink

De Atramentis Dokument Tinte Blau / Document Ink Blue Dear FPN friends, This time an ink review of a very special ink. De Atramentis Document Blue. This ink is mentioned for doctors, lawyers etc. and for all who need a permanent ink for official Documents To be qualified as a document ink the ink has to meet certain standards. The standard in Europe is ISO 12757-2. This means that the ink has to be lightfast and may not be influenced by any outer influences. To show you the resilience of the inks I have poured several aggressive Fluids over it and… Nothing happened. It is like if the ink was carved in stone…. Amazing… It is not only bulletproof but also bombproof … I believe the ink even survives a nuclear accident or bomb attack (sorry for not testing that ) The ink is extremely lightfast. This is tested and certified with the Woll-Skala, wool scale in English. This may sound peculiar, but isn’t that strange on second glance. In history quite often the same pigments used for Dyeing wool where used for inks as well. The Woll-Skala reaches from 1 not lightfast over 5 extremely lightfast to 8 extreme lightfast. The De Atramentis inks are, as far as I understand, made with nano-particles. According to the noble Fountain Pen King Sire Richard of Binderheart. Nano-particle inks can be safely used in Fountain pens. I always have one Fountain Pen filled with the ink for work and flush it once every 2 months… No problem at all Down here are the technical specs (as suggested by Ann Finley 2007) points 1-5 1 = Bad : 5= Excellent Fountain Pens: Sheaffer Targa F, “online Best Writer 0,8 Italic, Lamy Joy 1,5 Itaic Paper: Leonardo Ringbuch, average quality school note book made in Austria Drying time: Quicker than a camel’s bottom during a desert stroll points 5 Flow: like a Hippie on LSD points: 5 Wetness: very wet still drying fast points 5 Lubrication: very smooth points: 5 Bleeding: medium on average quality paper with ‘normal’ nib points: 3 Shading: almost none points: 1 Waterproof: what do you think points 5000000 Package: bottles only Points: 3 Availabilty: EU Excellent points: 5 USA/ASIA ??? Verdict: a very nice bombproof ink for all official purposes. Next time; De Atramentis dark blue. I will ask Dr Jansen for some technical specs and ask him why the ink probably survives all mankind… Have fun
  14. And now for something completely different - De Atramentis Document ink Cartridges De Atramentis Document ink Black De Atramentis Document Ink in…. Cartridges Well I guess like most Fountain Pen fans I love bottled ink. Bottled inks are available in a vast array of colours As an extra bonus the bottle is a private joy for the Fountain Pen writer and is a beautiful reminiscence to the golden age of Fountain Pen writing. And maybe not un important the price per ml. is usually lower But what if you own a smaller Fountain Pen like these down here https://www.lacouronneducomte.nl/webstore/main/fountain-pens-c-1.html I own 2 Kaweco Sport Fountain Pens. Nice and small so that they will easily fit in your pants pockets. The down side is that they are to small to for normal converters. In that case an ink cartridge brings a lot of ease and it is as practical as a small fountain pen can be. And... It keeps your fingers clean, or at least mine since I am quite a clumsy idiot 😉 De Atramentis Document Ink Black The ink is smooth writing wet yet fast drying ink De Atramentis was one of the first ink manufactures to bring out a Non-IG permanent ink on the market. I have more than once tested the permanency of those inks. My most recent review was the one down here De Atramentis Document Inks Revisited - The 2018 Collection https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/341246-de-atramentis-document-inks-revisited-the-2018-collection/ One Colour…. To start with? As far as I know, De Atramentis is doing a Henry Ford with it’s ink cartridges "Available ink any colour as long is it black." But just as Henry Ford later delivered more colours, I believe that Dr J will do so too. Not only Dr J already produces more than 250 inks, he is always keen on satisfying this clients wishes. https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/322431-de-atramentis-comparison-of-all-standard-inks/ Making a black ink that is truly black is quite a difficult thing to make if the ink should not only be truly black but als be perfectly safe for Fountain Pens at the same time. Judging from my (non scientific) comparison up here. The De Atramentis Document Ink seem to be the blackest ink shortly followed by the De Atra Black and that other sensational black: Sailor Jentle Black btw. The De Atramentis Night Black seems to have a dark green hue down here are some of the technical specs (as suggested by Ann Finley 2007) (not copied in but for this ink) points 1-5 1 = 5= Fountain Pens: , Kaweco Calligrapy Classic Sport BB nib and 1,5 Italic nib Paper: Vleveka Classic Line Paper and ordinary copying paper Drying time Very fast less than 3 seconds points 5 Flow: very smooth points: 5 Lubrication: wet points: 5 Feathering : little points 4 Bleeding: nada points 5 Shading: very good points 4 Waterproof: Bomb Proof points 4 Package: Simple but elegant points 4 What Colour would you like in a Cartridge As mentioned before Dr J. produces over 250 inks. When he started producing Document ink he only started with Blue, Dark Blue and Black. Today, also inspired by the requests of some artists, he has extended the range quite impressively... This down here is the 2018 range It might be a nice Idea to mention the colours you would like to see in a cartridge, in your response to this topic. Although the packaging cost of cartridges are, relatively, more expensive per ml, it might inspire Dr J to produce the colours most mentioned, in cartridges For YOUR inspiration click the link down here to see the comparison of all standard inks, or be inspired by the document ink comparison above https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/322431-de-atramentis-comparison-of-all-standard-inks/ Availability Currently, as far as I know, these Cartridges are only available on the De Atramentis Webstore https://www.de-atramentis.com/Patronen/ But the fine stationery suppliers down here not only carry a lot of De Atramentis inks in there assortment… They also will go (almost) all the way to satisfy their customer… You might want to inform there La Couronne Du Comte I guess Dennis and Rik would even travel to the moon to get it for you (just pay them a million or 2 ) Well it is safe to say that they do almost everything to satisfy their customers… http://www.lacouronneducomte Bankers have Rothshield Ink lovers have the Goulet Pen Company. Rachel and Brian carry the almost* largest assortment of ink on earth an it's near surroundings http://www.gouletpens.com (*almost Dear Amberlea Davis carries the largest assortment in the universe but is not a seller Larry Post of Australia is a Great Supplier of Stationary and Artist Equipments. They carry a lot of De Atramentis Inks http://www.larrypost.com.au/ The same applies to Singapore based Arters of the utterly friendly Yitpeng and WeetekOng http://arters.com.sg Conclusion Although not being a great fan of cartridges and black inks, I must say that these Document black ink might be quite useful. First of all I do have some smaller Fountain pens and these cartridges, literally, fit in quite well. Cartridges are made for ease of use and that combined with a fast drying permanent ink is a good offer in my opinion…. Especially if this tempts Biro-Bast..ds to use the Noble Fountain Pen 😉

    De Atramentis Sherlock Holmes

De Atramentis is german manufacturer of calligraphy and writing inks. The inks are hand made (the entire production process is done manually in their manufacturing center) by it's founder - Dr. Franz-Josef Jensen. I believe he uses high quality dyes from well established European companies like BASF and Bayer. The ink comes in nice glass bottle that contains 35 ml of ink. I like DA bottles. They're solid and interesting. Sherlock Holmes ink is, in reality, relabelled Night Blue ink. While it's not most inspiring ink ever created, it's a solid dark blue ink that can be used in all situations. It flows well. It's also got some water resistance. And some pretty shading. Drying times could be better, but they're acceptable (5-8 sec on absorbent papers, >15 s on Rhodia and alikes). Drops of ink on kitchen towel Color ID Color range Midori, Jinhao x750, M Rhodia, Aurora Ipsilon, Italic 1.2 Midori, Hero 5028, stub 1.9 Water resistance

De Atramentis Document Ink - Red

De Atramentis is german manufacturer of calligraphy and writing ink. The inks are hand made (the entire production process is done manually in their manufacturing center) by i's founder - Dr. Franz-Josef Jensen. I believe he uses high quality dyes from well established European companies like BASF and Bayer. De Atramentis offers a variety of "traditional" fountain pen inks and a broad selection of special and scented inks. I believe they should get more attention as the quality od these fluids is rather good and many of the colors are simply stunning. Document inks are permanent and waterproof. I confirm - water does nothing to them. Time will tell if light influences them in any way. The colors are: Blue Brown Dark Blue Fuchsia Green Red Turquoise YellowRed has rather uninspiring color. I do realise that after mixing it with other DI inks you may create interesting shades but I'm not into mixing thing. Therefore I rate this ink low in terms of color, saturation and writing properties - it tends to dry on nib strongly after two days of not using it) Ink splash http://imageshack.com/a/img540/826/yLDr5G.jpg Drops of ink on kitchen towel http://imageshack.com/a/img673/7619/XXh2NK.jpg Software ID http://imageshack.com/a/img673/1430/mn2yXs.jpg Oxford Recycled, Kaweco Sport Classic, B + Platinum Preppy, F http://imageshack.com/a/img661/8813/YfIn0q.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img540/2684/Y7WmWU.jpg CIAK, Kaweco Classic Sport, B http://imageshack.com/a/img661/6397/ubwrSR.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img673/4296/NJJ4Zy.jpg http://imageshack.com/a/img540/2633/oBkGLd.jpg
  17. Hi folks, I would like to try a De Atramentis ink but I can't really tell where to start; I get overwhelmed by all their offerings and names. Can you help me with some recommendations? I don't live anywhere near a pen/ink store, so.... I like blue(darker), blue-black, purple, green. Anyone have any faves in these colors from De Atramentis? And permanence doesn't matter... Thanks!
