  1. Hi Everyone, My problem is that I prefer hardcover journals for daily writing, but move around a lot so they are too heavy and impractical for my kind of lifestyle. Therefore, I'm thinking about switching to something more portable like Midori A5 journals. The issue is that I don't like writing on floppy surfaces and often need the hardcover to act as a writing surface when I'm out and about. Does such a thing exist as a leather notebook cover that is stiff enough or has hard enough surfaces to make a softcover journal feel like a hardback? Thanks for any suggestions!
  2. My first try at a notebook cover (I'm more used to bigger pieces, or knife sheaths). I have done a number of errors, and the leather I used to make the border was not thin enough, but still, I'm quite happy with it ! You can see more pictures in this gallery. I've added a steel bar in the discs to rigidify the notebook's spine, and replaced the paper by Clairefontaine's Clairing.
  3. Greetings FPN Members! I am in the market for a leather cover for my Taroko Enigma A5 notebook (148mm x 210mm x 18mm). After reading the various reviews on FPN and NanamiPaper.com, I am eager to invest in a GFeller kip leather cover. Would anyone have experience with / knowledge of the Gfeller Kip Hobonichi Cousin A5 cover (148mm x 210mm x 17mm) fitting the Taroko Enigma notebooks? I have scoured the Internet but have been unable to find conclusive evidence of the same. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! delhirox
  4. I love the little Rhodia pads...I have a cover for the size 11, and wondered if anyone knows of a smaller cover to fit the size 10? Doesn't have to be the same brand....just a wee cover/holder for size 2" x 2"(5.2cm x 7.5cm) Alex
  5. Does anyone know of a commercially available leather pad cover that will fit a Rhodia no 12 dot pad? I just moved up to the Sacramento area, and I am super happy to have Rhodia available to me now. I use my small no12 everyday, as well as larger notebooks, and it would be perfect if I could only find a leather cover! Thanks in advance guys!
  6. I ordered a custom Renaissance Art cover for my Hobonichi Techno planner. It's the small custom cover in wintergreen. The measurements I gave them were 5 7/8" high by 4 1/8" wide by 5/8" deep. It arrived safely in only about a week. I really like the leather and the simplicity: this is a book cover, period. No extra pockets, no closures, no bookmarks, no pen loops. It has a comfortable, rustic feel to it.The leather is beautiful and I'm sure will get better with age. Sorry about the lighting. The leather is a deep forest green that leans slightly toward yellow. It's dark but still obviously green. Source: http://www.renaissance-art.com/catg96/category.aspx Pics:
  7. Can anyone recommend a leather cover that would work for the A6 Hobonichi Techno Planner, other than the ones available directly from Hobonichi? The planner's measurements are listed as 4.1" x 5.8" (http://www.1101.com/store/techo/2015/planner/). I like the Gfeller covers but the measurements for an A6 cover for a Rhodia "webbie" are 3.5" x 5.5". (http://www.gfeller.us/noncart.html)
  8. What companies make leather covers, made with thick full grain leather, for the Field Notes notebooks? Thanks.

    Journal/planner Cover

After searching FPN and the web in general, there does not appear to be a product that meets the criteria I seek. What I am looking for are covers for A4 and A5 sized notebooks with plenty of pockets for storing business cards, pens, and other items usually carried daily. This cover would ideally be constructed of nylon, canvas, or something similar rather than leather. It should have a zipper to close and protect the contents..The covers that exist in this configuration all contain loose leaf rings. These will only get in the way of a ring bound notebook, unless of course, the notebook is perforated to accept the rings. That limits the choices of notebook and thus is not desirable. Does anyone know of a product that meets these needs?
  10. My Oberon Design large journal cover arrived today. I originally ordered one of the Moleskine journal covers thinking it was the same size, but it turns out the spine of that cover is thinner/smaller which means any journal or filler that is thicker or wider than a Moleskine journal will not fit. I didn't find out until after the order had shipped. However, it ended up working out because Oberon allowed me to place another order for the large journal cover and I was able to get it in a color I thought was discontinued. It turns out they will be the chocolate color once again and they just happened to receive a shipment of the new color so I was able to place a custom color at no additional cost because of the mixup with Moleskin cover. I've had an Oberon cover before and the fit and finish is impeccable. The leatherwork is of the highest quality and is best appreciated in person. It fits my Rhodia Webnotebook perfectly. I can open the notebook completely flat with no issues. Here are some pictures for those interested in this cover/notebook combination. Enjoy. Front cover The full cover Spine Open flat
  11. I think it is about time to do my first review (way overdue). I've always liked the looks and feel of leather notebooks but either the paper was not what I wanted or I was to scared to spoil them with my scribbles. So I opted to go for a nice leather cover. I searched a while to find a nice leather cover that could fit the notebooks I like. Most covers out there seem to be made for Moleskin and that's, well lets just say not my cup of tea. Not to long ago I came across a Dutch website www.writersplaza.nl were they sell handmade leather notebooks and covers by an Englishman named Paul Francis. Just when I was about to order the reddish one I noticed the dark brown one. I could not choose so there was only one option left I ordered both Both are just awesome. They fit about any A5 notebook I think. So far I have tried them with my favourite at the moment the Leuchtturm (currently in the brown one) and the Rhodia (web) and the thicker softcover Rhodia (shown in the reddish one). The reddish one has an extra flap where you can store businesscards, creditcard, etc. The extra flap also protects the notebook more when carried in a backpack or sorts. You can put the flap over or under the front cover. They both are pretty soft leather and lie as flat as the notebook allows. As a bonus the are made environmentally save. (http://www.writersplaza.nl/c-1443210/paul-francis-how-your-book-was-made/) They can stain a bit at the beginning. Needless to say I'm extremely happy with them and they put a smile on my face every time I see them or pick them up to start writing. After some googling I think I found his ebayshop http://stores.ebay.co.uk/The-Diary-Shop No more words let's show some pictures Some very nice diamondshape stiching

    In Praise Of Moleskine

I've always liked Moleskine notebooks and especially the pocket-sized ones - 9x14cm. Just ideal for the everyday 'get off my chest' sort of comments. A bit like my LOMO camera used to be for 'photo-thoughts'. I know that the Moleskines have a bit of bad press but that's probably down to people's reluctance to sort out what is right with Moleskine for themselves, rather than complain and whinge that Moleskine 'doesn't like my ink' sort-of thing. So I decided that I'd start using them again, in favour of the Leuchtturm pocket ones and see what happened. I've gone back to the soft-cover ones for the simple reason that I've found a superb chap who makes leather covers for them (along with a load of other stuff) and mine arrived this morning. I'll come to that in a bit. When I first started my first Moleskine I'd done a bit of searching for 'good' inks for Moleskine and came across this excellent series of reviews. I immediately went for the Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black - just my sort of colour anyway - and have never looked back. Therefore, I would suggest that people might care to try Moleskine-friendly inks first, before they rule out the paper altogether. (Sorry about the pun.) Making something work for you is a lot more fun than complaining that something doesn't suit you. Just my opinion. Anyway; soft covers here I come and as I mentioned, I've a perfect soft leather cover for the start of my next project. This is the one I went for, from Fenner Crafts. A fabulous chap to deal with and the service has been excellent. The soft Italian leather and soft cover of the book just go together perfectly. Of course, that's my opinion and some people might prefer hard covers and thicker leather. I've not tried a hard cover book in there but the covers are designed for both and I guess that a similar-sized book, like a Rhodia, would fit too. But I don't want to use either of those. Here's a picture of mine. So, come on people - give Moleskine another shot! You know you want to.
  13. Having seen the review of a cover made for Clairefontaine notebooks here, I eventually contacted Ray Clark and asked about producing one for me, for the Leuchtturm 1917 pocket notebooks I favour. Although happy with using Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black on Moleskine paper with perfect results most of the time, I've gone onto the Leuchtturm ones in both pocket and A5 sizes. So his response was marvellous - he said he'd produce the Leuchtturm model, which is only 10mm higher in effect, than the Moleskine template, for the same price. The one I chose was £35.00 plus the postage etc. I went for the simple one with no stud fastening and asked him to round off the corners. The result was just what I wanted and the notebook fits perfectly. There's enough room around the edges to actually make writing in it a lot easier and the leather helps to keep it open and lie much better. The first picture is of a Moleskine one from Ray's Etsy page. Then a couple of the one I've received. I would suggest that this product is well worth considering for a lot of different notebooks and Ray will certainly help with any questions that one might have. A courteous service throughout and I'm very pleased. His Etsy page can be found here.Enjoy.
