Inkwell and Brew - Estes Park, CO

Accidentally found this nice store in Estes Park, CO. Coffee, Stationary, Ink and Pens. https://inkwellbrew.com/ The coffee was excellent, staff very friendly. They carried a nice selection of notebooks, journals, and assorted things, in FP friendly paper. They also had a selection of J Herbin inks and Retro pens. Have a room upstairs to sit and play board games, drink coffee, and I suppose write. I wanted to sit and write my journal there, but didn't have time. Nice, different shop.

    De Atramentis: Coffee

http://inks.pencyklopedia.pl/wp-content/uploads/De-Atramentis-Coffee-nazwa.png Present test ink De Atramentis Coffee coffee color (brown). Ink smells bad. It was to be probably the smell of coffee, but in my opinion not really work out that manufacturer. Ink writes well, though you may feel dry pen. Ink dries fairly quickly. Unfortunately, the smell disqualifies him in my private feeling. Only for the brave or runny nose. Producent: De Atramentis Series, colour: Coffee Pen: Waterman Hemisphere "F" Paper: Image Volume 80 g / cm2 Specifications: Flow rate: weak Lubrication: good Bleed through: possible point Shading: noticeable Feathering: unnoticeable Saturation: good Ink drying time: ~ 5 sec. Coffee Ristretto, Just Because

Ok, so a poster elsewhere on FPN asked about coffee as ink, in particular, ristretto (short espresso). It was freshly shot through a semi-commercial machine with the right grind. I tried it in a dip pen but would never put it in a FP due to acidity, caramelisation, solidification, and oils. I was going to leave it there, however it ended up having a sheen/shine that was unexpected so thought it might be of interest to inky recipe makers. It didn't feather on Rhodia at all. It did bleed through but didn't seep on to the next page. It has a certain amount of permanence - wetting the page and rubbing across it with my finger caused an initial light smear but then the paper wore away before the 'ink' did. The ristretto was too fluid really. I put some in a vial and added a xanthan concentrate I use experimentally for viscosity adjustment but it caused a synergistic reaction I've never seen before that turned it into a thick gel. Unexpected. Perhaps acacia might work better to increase viscosity if anyone ever got that curious. edit: forgot to mention that the 'ink' is completely dry in these pics. That's sheeny/shiny dry ink. Here are the pics I posted elsewhere.
  5. A nice coffee-colored ink, without the coffee aftertaste Between this and Herbin Lie de The, I've got a nice little cafe thing going in my ink collection. Once again, another great ink in the Pendleton's series. Nice shading. Good smooth flow. Can see the lines after the wet finger swipe. So that's nice. It leans toward the red side of brown. A good subtle color that I could see in serious use.
