  3. I know it's a late announcement, but the Pittsburgh pen club will meet this Wednesday, June 15, at 7:00 PM at the Panera in Bakery Square. Bring ideas for a July location, and we'll see what we can decide. Also think about timing and location for a weekend meeting that we can hold a little further east (Monroeville? Greensburg?) where we can invite the Central PA people as well. See you all there!Joshua Sasmor
  4. The April meeting of the Pittsburgh pen club will be on Wednesday May 18, at 7:00 PM. We will be meeting in the back room at the Panera in Oakland at 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, Pittsburgh 15213 We will also be discussing future meeting locations and possible weekend meetings for later this summer again - several people have promised to report on other venues! We also hope to be taking some pictures for a website and to create a more regular schedule. See you there! Joshua Sasmor
  5. Central Penn Pens - Middle of Spring meeting Saturday 7 May 2016 @ 1:00 pmCafé Fresco, 3352 Paxton StreetHarrisburg, PA http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t68/earthly-paradise/Waterman-Ideal-Fountain-Pen-Giclee-.jpgHello everyone! The Central Penn Pens group will meet again to celebrate the arrival (then departure, then re-arrival) of Spring. The Philadelphia Pen Show was a bit of a blizzard, but Baltimore and Long Island more than made up for it. Café Fresco. Many of you are now familiar with that venue for showing and sharing your pen hobby. Now, let’s just relax in the back room of that local eatery where we’ve been meeting on and off for almost ten years. The next meeting of the Central Penn Pens will take place on Saturday, 7 May 2016 at 1:00pm. We'll gather in the back room of, just east of Harrisburg. This location is like the hub of a spoked wheel of major roads, and is easy to get to from I-81, I-83, I-76 (Pa Turnpike) and US322. We are working on a presentation, so watch this thread. Those of you who've been here before know we pile the tables with pen collections and the opportunity to trade, buy or sell. Then there's the ink swap to try new brands and shades that you would never consider before, and without spending a dime. After all, your unwanted ink is another writer’s treasure, so bring those dusty bottles along. We’ll also have the Goodie Box, a place to put your orphan pen items that simply clutter your desk at home, but others will be glad to have them. Watch this space for more information, updates, freebies and whatnot. Please contact me with ideas, offers and questions. Fred
  6. The April meeting of the Pittsburgh pen club will be on Wednesday April 20, at 7:00 PM. We will be meeting at a new location: the Panera in Oakland at 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, Pittsburgh 15213 We will also be discussing future meeting locations and possible weekend meetings for later this summer! See you there! Joshua Sasmor
  7. Just a reminder that our next meeting is coming up this Monday, March 14th and will be held at Murray's home from 7pm-9pm. Our topic this round is... Ink. Bring your favourite ink or two (or three, or six) and one you hate (if you have one) and would like to get rid of. This is your opportunity to possibly sell or trade that bottle lying around that you're still shaking your head about and wondering why you purchased it. If you have extra in in general you'd like to sell or trade, feel free to bring that as well. As always, our secondary topics will be new acquisitions of pens, paper, ink, and related ephemera. Please RSVP your attendance/absence. www.calgarypenclub.com
  8. Back in February, we talked about March - well here it is! So let's have a meeting - Wednesday the 16th, at 7, in the Panera at Bakery Square. We will also discuss the idea of a weekend meeting to get the Central PA people in to the area, and of looking at other venues to get more space, so bring your ideas! Joshua Sasmor
  9. So our next meeting of the Pittsburgh group is Wednesday February 17, at 7:00 PM at the Panera in Bakery Square! I hope to see you all there. A secondary question - would I be better off just adding on to this topic as a chain for all future meetings? That way we can all just follow this topic and have a new meeting announcement each month on here? Joshua Sasmor
  10. Okay, so it's a new year! Time for a meeting! Tuesday, January 26, at 7PM. We'll meet at the Panera in Bakery Square, on Penn Avenue! I hope to see you all with your holiday (and Philadelphia pen show) swag! Joshua Sasmor sasmor@setonhill.edu
  11. Calling all Nottinghamians! The East Midlands seems to be sadly lacking a thread to call our own, so here we go! There seems to have been a little influx of locals recently (calling Sherwood Forester, mr dodo, evyxmsj, chrisheathcote, and all others!) and I thought it would be nice to perhaps get a local group or meet going. A little about me I suppose, I'm a 4th year medical student at the University of Nottingham, born and bred in the Netherlands but loving life in the Midlands (indeed, my grandparents were from Derby originally, and the other half of the family from Burton!). I've been using fountain pens for basically as long as I can remember, and have accumulated a collection of mainly Japanese and German pens (Pelikan, Lamy, Pilot, and Platinum make up the bulk of my case) with a smattering of TWSBIs, Parkers and Noodlers too. I'd love to meet some get to know some of the other enthusiasts in the area; I've had some success in converting friends and colleagues to the inky side, but an actual meet and great would be lovely! Hopefully this can gain some traction; and see you around! Alex
  12. The Pittsburgh pen club (Steel City Nibs) will be meeting on Wednesday December 16, at 7PM at the Panera in Bakery Square! I hope to see you all there! Bring your holiday wish lists and anything your looking to sell or trade - you may find a buyer... Joshua Sasmor
  13. Hello everyone. Forgive me if this is already posted somewhere else, or is searchable somewhere. I can't find info on groups by location. Are there groups in NEO? Specifically, Akron or Cleveland areas? I am looking for a place to meet people who can show us how to care for pens, and who want to show off their collections. I need more than YouTube, and we missed the Ohio Pen Show. TIA for any help. ~Deanna~
  14. The Pittsburgh pen club (Steel City Nibs) will be meeting on Wednesday November 17, at 7PM at the Panera in Bakery Square! I hope to see you all there! Let's see what the Ohio pen show and fountain pen day 2015 brought you! Joshua Sasmor
  15. It's October! Our discussion last month put forward the date of October 14 for the next meeting. So I hope to see you all on Wednesday the 14th, at 7PM, at the Panera in Bakery Square. Come join the Steel City Nibs and let's have a good time! Joshua Sasmor
  16. So I've been active on FPN for a couple months now and have been delving into the world of fountain pens for a bit longer. Over that time I've knowingly interacted exactly one fountain pen using civilian in real life (not counting a couple of antique dealers who have an interest in fountain pens). It was fantastic to talk, however briefly with someone who shared my interest: we ran into each other at an estate sale and looked at/chatted about the Konrad he was carrying and my Reform 1745 (it almost took all of the sting out of the fact that he beat me by a matter of seconds to a box with two Esterbrooks and a handful of Renew Points...almost). In any event, I think it would nice at some point to touch base with some other fountain pen fans from the Central Oklahoma area and possibly have some sort of informal, face-to-face meetup. The only FPN member from the OKC Metro Area that I've interacted with has been Azariah. I've search the forums/members a bit and have found a couple recently active members from Oklahoma (framos917 and physicsgirl, hi if you're listening!). I though I would start this topic in case it might help draw some folks out of the woodwork. Also, if anyone happens to know of any Oklahoma FPNers or any good ways of finding them (there doesn't seem to be a good way to search by "location" on IP.Board), please do chime in as well. Thanks for you time everyone.

    Maine Fountain Pens

Being a Maine resident my whole life I've realized one thing the Pine Tree State is severely lacking is a community for fountain pen users. Lets change that! I recently opened a site, mainelypens.blogspot.com, and would love to hear from other Mainers or New Englanders. Hope we can organize something!
  20.
