  1. Hey guys, I managed to ruin the feeder on one of my favorite Montblanc pens. It is similar to this one: https://arum24.es/product/montblanc-noblesse-oblige-raj1556/?lang=en 1) I have no experience in repairing pens. Would changing the feeder be a doable task for me? 2) What tools to I need? I can only find 146/149 - series remover tools on eBay. This is a 522 nib. Thanks a load in advance! /Law

    Gold Nib Color Change

Hi everyone! I've been meaning to post a question here, for some time. First a back story... I've been buying vintage pens for some time, and some sellers had statements "pen completely repaired" or "refurbished"... cleaned and polished, taken apart and put back together. Some are "as is" i.e. no work has been done, at least not by the seller. The nibs are sometimes polished and look excellent, sometimes I can see tipping material is low, sometimes tines are misaligned, sometimes everything looks perfect. The question is - after I use the pen for week or two... or month, the nib changes the color. It goes from shiny gold (if polished) to some form of dark rainbow kind of - reminds me of spring steel which is heat treated... it get's kind of blueish in some areas. Some nibs have it from vent hole to the tip, some everywhere around, some across... So - what causes this? Was the nib heat treated and gold changes the surface color in contact with ink or water? It is annoying really, I pay the price for perfectly looking pen and nib, and then I get this change. It seems that it does not affect the nib performance (though I'd challenge this observation in case that nib was heat treated, because who knows how it was performing before) ... perhaps sellers should be upfront with what was done to the nib - if they know. Any thoughts? And - would polishing pull this thin out? Maybe it was the polishing that causes this... Thank you!

    Nibs For The Twsbi Eco

My first TWSBI is supposedly on its way and in anticipation am already thinking of playing around with nibs. The question is, which nibs will fit the ECO? The other TWSBI nibs might fit? Also, what size non-TWSBI nibs will fit? How does one remove the ECO nib: screw off, pull off, or knock out? And if you've switched in some other nib, feel free to post your results.
  4. A few weeks ago I was watching Nathan Tardiff's video concerning BSiar. I posted a question in the comments (I'm muskndusk on youtube) asking about the colour changes. Recently I received his response. He said: To which I responded: He has also changed the video description to include this information. If anyone wants to check this, the link is: (Click on the 'watch on youtube' button to read the comments.) I'm not criticising either Nathan or Noodler's, I'm just confused. There does seem to be an appreciable difference in the ink, many people on this forum have commented upon it, so what is really going on? If I order an ink, will I receive the colour I expect? I'm confused.
  5. I'm really keen on purchasing my first Japanese pen and really like the Platinum urushi Izumo, red coloured pen. The problem is that I want one with an extra broad, BB nib. I know that Japanese broad is more like. Western medium, and medium nibs just don't work with me. I want to have it custom ground to CI. It appears that retailers say that extra broad is not available with this pen, however, Mottishaw's nibs.com do have an extra broad as an option. Any insights into this? Is it possible for retailer to order one from Platinum, or is this not possible. I really like the pen, but not the rather narrow nib change ( pun intended)...
  6. Another thread got me thinking about some minor changes to future Pelikans, that all though not crazy to do, would make the pens even better (in my opinion) 1) For the M80x/M1000 striped Green/Blue/Red bodies having the internal piston changed from the silver brass to a black coated/anodized brass, so that the silver piston wouldn't shine though half the body and detract the eye. Then having the piston as an optional extra to retro fit on existing models if so desired. 2) The option for single tone nibs. On the Mxx05 range rather than a dual tone nib or rhodium plated nib, I think a 18C White Gold nib would look great, and no concern for plating coming off. On the MXX00 range an option for a single tone gold nib. On a black and gold pen, I think an all yellow Gold nib would set it off more. What would you change ?
