So, this is my first fountain pen. I've been skimming through the threads on restoration, particularly the disassembly "how not to" threads. I don't want to make donor parts out of my first attempt. I am currently on day five or six attempting to part the section from the barrel so that I can see what's inside. I have been using the hair dryer method, but haven't had so much as a budge. I am very hesitant to apply too much torque. Judging by the grain in the body I can see ample opportunity for some sort of splitting. I am concerned that someone may have used shellac or <gasp!> glue, although I don't see any drips or residue. Here are a couple more photos. Any comments or advice?

Hi Everyone, So I have a Pelikan Go! P70 and I've royally fu**ed up. I was cleaning the nib, very gently, and, I guess my gentle wasn't soft enough so while still screwed into the barrel, the nib section broke off. On top of that, there's a crack in the grip and it keeps falling off. Here's a few questions I have. I'm dirt poor and can't afford another one! I had this pen for literally 3 days before it went to sh*t. I pretty much spent my savings on this and I'm pretty sure I got ripped off. I paid upwards of 50 euros for this, plus currency exchange fees from the Canadian Dollar, so, I know, I messed it up. Okay.... Can I repair this pen? It's my only hope to write with a fountain pen. Can I remove the screw in section from the barrel? It's broken in there, screwed in. If I can remove the section stuck in the barrel... how can I reattach it to the nib section? I'm planning on fusing the plastic together to fix the crack and using superglue to make sure that the grip stays sealed (not stuck to the nib section though). Honestly, I'm desperate to repair this pen. I can't afford another one after I got ripped off with this one.

Cleaning My Demonstrator With Alcohol Has The Barrel Turned Cloudy

I am very new here. Recently, I tried cleaning the inside wall of the barrel (only on the top part) of my Sailor 1911 demonstrator with a cotton bud dipped in ethyl alcohol 70% to remove some waterproof black ink stain. At first, the stain was removed quite easily. But as I left the barrel to dry, I noticed that the once clear barrel turned cloudy on the area that was affected by the alcohol solution. I have tried washing away the layer of cloudiness with water a few times, but it did not work. I have not idea what exactly is the material of the barrel, could it be plastic or acrylic, that reacts to alcohol solution this way? So, is there anything I could do to restore the barrel to its original transparency again? Please advise, anyone?

Need Help In How Can I Find And Install A Small Part For A Montblanc Slimline.

Dear Pen aficionados, I have a pen that is missing a cover [disk shaped, about 1/4" diameter] to the very top of the barrel, what looks like a black and white logo, not unlike the one on the other end but the missing one is somewhat smaller. I am attaching three photos, one a close up where it would go [it took me many attempts to take using an 11x mag lens in front of a smartphone lens], another [which I took from this website from the page showing a similar pen but a rollerball pen with link at https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/69972-montblanc-slimline-noblesse-vintage-rollerball-pen/ ] is a picture of showing how the two ends should look, and I point to the end that has the missing black and white logo disk, and another is a picture of the complete pen showing the two ends with the one barrel end missing the logo. I know the pen a MontBlanc fountain pen, but I don't know the exact model name or model number, but from searching around, the closest match was one being shown and sold at Ulugtekin.com and here is the link at http://www.ulugtekin.com/pen/Ulugtekin%20Montblanc/Vintage/Montblanc-Slimline-Fountain-Pen/Montblanc-Slimline-Fountain-Pen.htm So the piece missing is a plastic disk that fits inside the barrel end, but I am not sure if it comes with a screw or if it is shoved in place. I wasn't able to unscrew the beveled end, and it didn't try disassembly of the barrel to see if the end could be unscrewed. So any clues, suggestions, links, steps to replace the part would be greatly appreciated. Jairo

Hi All- Please forgive the question if it has been answered before-I did a search and didn't come up with much for a '51' Aero pencil repair. I am a relative newbie and had read somewhere that the '51' pencil barrels are not the same (lucite) as the pens. I have a pencil with a crack in the barrel that I would like to stabilize so that it doesn't get any worse. It will be a user pencil for me, so I am not super concerned with cosmetics, but certainly don't want to do any harm, or use the wrong stuff. What should I use to stabilize the crack? I have attached a close-up picture. Thanks in advance for any and all guidance!-

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie in Pelikan. Recently I bought a Pelikan M805 and find some little issue on barrel. I see a very small crack in the blue stripe. Here I mean the little "crack hole" aside the "crack line". As I marked with red circle. The barrel itself is very smooth and shinny, and I like it very much. So is that normal in Pelikan pen or need to contact dealer to swap a new one? Thanks!

hello hello! im not sure if this is the right place to ask, im just new. so i got a parker vector roller ball, and i use a pilot g2 refill with my vector. so what happened is i forgot to take the coloured cap off the refill and now its stuck to the bottom of the barrel. has anyone encountered this and got it out? much help and a lot of thanks!!

Hi Everyone, I've recently got a hold of a Sheaffer Snorkel from the bay. Upon receiving it, I noticed a crack at the plunger end, usually a far too common and unfortunately fatal issue in snorkels. As it's in the UK, parts are notoriously difficult to find, let alone for a justifiable price. I actually noticed the issue after winning, but having already paid, the seller just played dumb and completely denied it, even though it was blatantly obvious. Since I got it for a good price, however, it isn't worth much in returning. The crack itself is perhaps about 3/8 of an inch, roughly the same distance away from the breather hole. Internally - the pen is sound and fixable, just that little crack can cause issues. I've looked around and and I've seen Tenax 7R advertised wholeheartedly by Ron Z, however it's nearly impossible to find in the UK. (and for a good price) My question is if there's any alternatives I can find cheaply in the UK, something trustworthy as I have little option for failure. I'm confident in my ability to fix pens and have a steady hand (should have been a surgeon but chemistry wasn't my strong point hehe). Also, provided a picture of the crack. Excuse the horrible quality, I needed to MSPaint some things of help. Thanks in advance.

So, I have seen images of disassembled 149s which show the section unscrewed from the barrel at the point between the threads and the ink window. I have also seen many people wondering whether or not they will lose the ebonite feeds on their 149s if they send their pens to Montblanc for service. The reply to this is usually that they will indeed lose the ebonite feed, as the current feeder cases are incompatible with the old feeds. This has led me to wonder whether or not an old section can be placed onto a modern barrel, thus being able to retain the old feed. As an aside, how do modern Montblanc plastic feeds compare to the old ebonite feeds?

Hello Everyone: I have been a fountain pen user and collector for almost 30 years. A big fan of all types of Parker pens, with a Rainbow-Cap Parker 61 as my "daily driver", (washable blue ink) alternating with a Montblanc No. 12 (brown ink). which makes my notebooks multi-colored! However, I also am attached to my Pelikan ballpoing that I bought, duty free in Amsterdam airport years ago. I recently made the great mistake of dropping it (point-down) on the cement floor of my garage, and broke-off the metal tip from the lucite barrel. "Glue" repairs have not held, and I definitely need to find a new (black) barrel of compatible type. Does anyone have any advice as to where to find such? [Mech. Pencil] Anyone Know Where To Find A Replacement Barrel For My 'rotary' Pencil?

There are a few barrels on Ebay for an Aerometric "Push Cap" pencils. Would those fit here since mine rotates rather than 'clicks?' Any info is most appreciated - I love this pencil and hope it can be used again! Cheers, OYP

I don't know what the proper name for this, but Im curious to know what other folks think.... I've attached a photo, for purely illustrative purposes: the part where the barrel and the nib unit and grip all come together. Like a "step". I find pens with this to be very uncomfortable, difficult to hold....but that might just be because my hands are relatively small, though long fingered, and my joints are hypermobile and headed towards arthritis. Any thoughts or opinions very welcome. I'm trying to distract myself from some things about which I can do nothing, and I find that thinking/reading about/using my pens, plus listening to Leonard Cohen, is a very good way of at least taking the edge off somewhat.... Onto Black Chased 5601 Barrel Material Id

Hi all, I have acquired a black chased Onto 5601/46. I aim to renew certain parts, however before any heat treatment I need to know what the section and barrel are made of is it Vulcanite,Rubber or celluloid? I know the dating of these pens is slightly tricky owing to records being destroyed during the blitz. If I can unscrew the section I will be in a better position to order parts as I’m on the last lesson at the WES workshop in a few weeks time and will be able to work on it there. I would rather have the parts in anticipation. The other tools Dave Wells has. The pen does not fill and the filler knob does not tighten to fit flush with the barrel. I’m anticipating that it will need a new cork seal and a washer, nib straightened (14k 3ST) etc. etc etc. The eagle eyed of you will have spotted the non standard clip which will be replaced. What is the correct clip for the pen? See my not so good images! Thank you in anticipation, Cluedoh

I received my Base "Uni" yesterday. But there are two distinct things I want to ask. First, the barrel screws on the section with a click and then it has a "play" or "free movement" of approximately 1 mm i.e. the barrel and section can be rotated against each other to 1mm which very annoying while writing becuse they feel to be moving. Second, the same is with the cap and the pen also. After capping, the cap and the pen rotates freely to some 1 to 1.5 cm either ways, to the right or to the left. Does Schneider Base sport these features or mine is a mis aligned/ faulty one?

Sheaffer Balance - Need To Fix Section To Barrel - No Uk Shellac Sources

Hi, Some time ago I bought a nice green Sheaffer Balance lever fill in green - now the section has separated somewhat from the barrel. I understand I need shellac to fix this but I can't find a resource in the UK (checked the fora here and looked on the usual sites but nothing.) Any advice re sources of shellac and just fixing things most welcome. I guess this is a FAQ hence apologies for asking. Thanks. R -
Does anyone know where I could get a dark blue P45 barrel? My 45 barrel is in a very bad shape (cracks and deep gouges), but the nib is fantastic. Thanks!

Currently I am looking for replacement parts such as: -- Conklin Crescent Mark 50 cap -- Waterman #2 feed/section from a 14k solid gold Edward Todd ringtop -- Parker Lady Duofold "big red" ringtop cap -- Waterman 52 BCHR barrel and cap -- Waterman Thorobred red and green veined cap -- Parker Vacumatic major cap, jeweled, golden I have searched and searched the internet and the "bay" but it seems likes these parts are kept by folks who are collectors/sellers. Anyone have any idea of how I can find the missing parts to my pens? Any feedback is greatly appreciated - it has been a frustrating month or so of constantly searching without any luck . I just restored my first Snorkel last night, a black Valiant? with a white dot and a fine open nib. After putting in a new sac and both seals, I couldn't get the pen to fill very much at all. I eventually found out my original barrel had a long crack in it near the section. I replaced the black barrel with a burgundy one, and the pen now works great. Is barrel cracking common in Snorkels? Can you fix this issue yourself, or is it easier just to get a new barrel? PS. First of all, this is just a show and tell, not instructions per se. If you broke your pen, I will laugh at you and tell you to bugger off. But, someone has requested this, and I have time to spare, so yea. Okay, here's the step by step cap ring scratches removal on a Pelikan. Let's start this off with showing what the [first world] problem is. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2822/9796054335_7c8cae5e70.jpg Multiple ring scratches where the cap ring sits on the barrel. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3730/9796089576_0b59e136f0.jpg Heavy scratches demand heavy grit (caution! Start off with a softer grit and gradually find the roughest grit needed.. in my case, 1000 wet and dry, etc.) Then after the deep scratches are gone, then let's remove the "cloud".. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7300/9796060745_850733d9b1.jpg Gradual micromeshes applied parallel to the pen. From teal to grey. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7301/9796079514_f16bd9019b_z.jpg Moving on to liquid solutions. Novus #3 applied perpendicular to the barrel. Skip the official instructions, because you'll save money with plastic/cellophane instead of cloth applicator here, only very little amount needed. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2875/9796096446_d7448fd638.jpg Now it's time to use microfibre cloth for the Novus #2. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7304/9796144193_3697743dc0.jpg Novus #1, looking good already. Tools used: Wet&dry sandpaper 1K-2K, Micromesh 4K-12K, Novus 1 to 3 (2 oz bottles should be right for most), Turtle Wax scratch repair, scotch tape, and microfibre cloth. And it took me a good two hours to do it. Ask away and lemme know if something's unclear etc. Hth. Tony PS: By the way, the pen was Pelikan MC110 with Iroshizuku Yama-guri.

Hi, I wanted to get some advice about adhering a section into the barrel and the type of nib. I recently won a Retro 51 Double-8 L.E. NOS fountain pen off eBay. The pen is made from cellulose acetate and I was wondering if I could use shellac to glue the section to the barrel? I don't want the shellac to discolor or be seen from the outside. I don't know if I use shellac if I could heat it up later and remove it without damaging the parts. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for adhesives? Secondly, the nib. Is this an early Delta Fusion nib or a full 18k nib? It really looks like it has an 18k inlaid top. I'm pretty sure its full 18k nib but I just wanted another opinion. Either way the seller never stated it as 18K and it feels and writes just like my OMAS Paragon 18k nib, so I'm very happy. Thanks, IKWarren
