Hi all, I have recently dug out a fountain pen set I received as a graduation gift, a ways back... I know almost nothing about fountain pens but it's a sharp looking pen and I am interested in using it as my daily pen; I take a lot of notes and although all my colleagues take notes electronically I vastly prefer taking notes with pen and paper. It seems to be an Aurora Ipsilon of some variety. It's got a black case and a non-shiny/dull silver-tone cap with black and shiny silver rings at the bottom of the cap. I've attached a picture of the pen. I cleaned it thoroughly, it had had a cartridge dry up in it from about a decade back, and I loaded up a new cartridge and tested it out. It writes very well and I can see myself enjoying using this pen however the line is just too thick for my taste. It seems to be a fine point (it says "F" on the nib) and I prefer an extra fine line (0.5mm). I did summarily research replacements but I didn't have much luck. I found listings for 14K "nib units" that cost 2-3 times what this pen cost, I am sure. I am seeking information, terminology, resources, etc., for locating a new nib "unit." I don't know if this is the correct term but I am basically looking for the nib and feed, together, or whatever the least expensive and simple set up would be to get me on my way. Hi guys, I'm really not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I'll give it a try. I am in a need of some extra money, so I have to sell some of the pens I've been collecting. I'm interested is there somebody in the Bay Area that would give me a fair amount of money, because I live in San Jose, California currently. My collection are mostly Montblanc pens with additions of other brands. It consists of both vintage and modern, used and unused fountain pens, pencils, ballpoints and rollerballs. What would you guys suggest? I'm also open to trades, but it has to be something that I'd consider keeping, although currently I primarily need money. Thanks, Nick

Hello everyone. I recently bought a vintage Aurora 88 from the 40's. I bought on Ebay from italy because they are hard to find. I paid 100 shipped and arrived 5 days ago. The description of the pen said that it was in good condition, and only one picture was posted. When I received the pen, it was in a sorry state. I cleaned it , and made the piston work. There was a small hole on the barrell, like the ones in the caps so they can breath. It was curious to me since I have never seen this holes on barrels. Ink came through the hole so I put some silicone grease and problem solved. The nib is wonderful, it is a medium broad with excellent flex. The ebonite on the tip and blind cap are in great condition. However the cap had some corrosion which I sanded and polished out, but the cap on the left side of thw clip has two normal sized dings that frustrate me. I am very anal with the condition of my vintages, and I just cant ignore this imperfection on the cap. Is there anyone that have a spare cap from a vintage 88 or 88K that can sell it to me. I dont care if it is gold or silver trimmed. The cap needs to be in great condition with no dings and dents. Or if someone know anyone a seller or a site that I vould ask if they are willing to sell me a cap. Thank you everyone!

Hi all! I am contemplating getting a new fountain pen and cannot decide between a Sheaffer Valor or an Aurora Talentum Finesse (the Aurora Talentum is a little above my price range, and anyway I quite like the Finesse's slimmer look). Unfortunately the only review I could find of the Aurora is one that mentions the cap not being tight fitting enough, leading to the ink drying out by the next day. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Aurora, or could give any input as to which of the two I should go with? Thanks in advance!

I've been looking to purchase a functioning vintage Aurora 88, fine or medium nib. I would like the pen to be free of any major cosmetic blemishes. I wondered what I could expect to pay for one? I do like the ones with a Nikargenta cap, but a regular cap would do. Thank you.

Anyone know of, or had any, long-term problems with an Aurora Blue:Aurora Black mix? There have been one or two much earlier posts about this but I believe that the ink composition of the two colours has altered in the meantime. Earlier comments are along the lines of, "...just turns to gel after a time..." I've been using such a mix for a few weeks now, by the way, and can't see any changes in the pen or the bottle it's in.

Hi everyone. This will be my first post in here. I am looking for help regarding my Aurora Ypsilon Satin (photo is attached in this post). This is my first fountain pen. I've had this since 2007. Not so long ago, uncapped for a second, it rolled off my desk and broke! The cap and nib are okay. The feed is intact. But the nib's section is badly damaged where the threading has disappeared. The threading is left inside the barrel! My initial idea for damage control was to apply Mighty Bond. However, this did not work at all. Please let me know if anybody here knows how to fix something like this? Are there any home remedies you can suggest? If not, would you please recommend the best action for this? Thank you! .

Which nib of yours is the one to which all comparisons are made? What is it about this nib that makes this "The nib to rule them all"? Mine is the factory stub on an Aurora 88. Absolutely perfect! Perfect ink flow, perfect line variation, perfectly balanced, perfect feedback. I in fact use this as my standard description of what I want when customising.

I've just ordered an Aurora Optima Nero Perla (cracked ice) color fountain pen. What I want to know is "Auroloide" plastic resin or celluoid? Thanks.

While looking for a daily notebook the first thing on my mind was the classical Aurora linen covered notebook. It's quite often seen here in Belgium but does not get that much attention on this forum. Is it something typical of my country? The paper quality will do for a daily notebook and the firmness does add value when carrying it arround. In my experience it is a iconic notebook that is fountainpen friendly. Is anybody else using it? Or perhaps just avoiding this notebook?

I have often commented about black inks in general but though it was time for a little comparison of the ones I actually own. Also, I've started using the Pelikan 4001 again and still quite enjoy it, I'm ashamed to say. However, the recent post on here about Aurora v Pelikan made me try the Aurora one out and I'm impressed. Along with the Aurora Blue, their Black is great in my Moleskines - I use F or EF/XF nibs generally - and they both make a nice change from my customary use of 'The Master' - Pelikan 4001 Blue Black. So here are my inks. All written on my usual Rhodia 80gsm pad using Lamy Safari pens, dipped, amd M nibs. The following soak tests are on the usual pads of (probably) 80 or 90gsm paper but the quality isn't very good. The 'wet' ones were soaked for 30 minutes or so and then given a final rinse before drying. I'm impressed with the Aurora and always knew that the Pelikan was going to be OK. Skrip has a good outcome too and the Namiki is pretty well-known for this quality. Lastly no real surprises from the Waterman and Parker. I shall await any comments with interest!

Hello, I have a beautiful Aurora International 98. I used to refill it using an used Aurora cartridge. It works, but I'm not sure I would offer a gift with a syringe, or even sell it. By some serendipity, my local fountain pen shop had an Aurora converter that is supposed to work for this model. I tried it, and it seemed to work. But as soon as I tried to fill the pen up, it became obvious that the converter was a bit looser than with the cartridge. In fact, the section fell into the ink pot. On the second try, I could make it suck ink. It worked for a while, but it became obvious that the ink was leaking from where the converter made contact with the nipple. So I flushed the pen and the converter, disassembling the converter to make sure it was OK. So here is my question: would it be possible to put a bit of silicon grease to "seal" the converter around the nipple? I know that 13$ is not a big deal, but my first motivation to dive into the universe of fountain pens was to stop wasting plastic and start taking care of my stuff. I am willing to try about any solution, as long as someone, somewhere, is willing to help me out by sharing his or her experience. I'm looking at the Aurora Limited Edition Dante's Inferno. It is an absolutely gorgeous pen, at least to my eyes. The black lacquer and rose gold accents are magnificent. But this will be the most I've spent on a pen and I want a pen that is useable, not just a collectable to be admired and never touched. So, I guess my main questions are: Has anyone got any experience with Aurora pens? Has anyone got any experience with this pen? What are your experiences with actually using limited editions in general? Thanks,

So my dad has this awesome collection of Aurora Pens and wants to sell them. They are all in mint condition, never touched, never used. He basically had them locked away in a closet for a long time, never even put them on display. Below I have attached a picture of one of them, which is very similar to the others. Neither him nor I know anything about these pens so I was hopping someone could help me out with an estimate of how much they're worth. I'm planning on posting them in the classifieds section. Any idea of how to open an Aurora 88 piston to apply some silicone grease? After recently managing this with an M800, I want to know how to do this with the less well known Aurora 88..

What kind of service do Bock provide? It seems like so many pen makers use Bock nibs, yet so many reviews also comment of the various properties of company specific features like the "conway stewart", or "Visconti" feel of a nib. Surely, nib material aside; Bock made nibs must be fairly similar to each other?! That is unless of course, that Bock provide some kind of consulting process in which the pen maker brings what they want, which Bock then go on to manufacture. Any thoughts or insights?

So I've decided to buy myself a birthday pen, but my dilemma is choosing what pen. So I've decided to enlist the help of the FPN board members and base my decision upon your recommendation's. I've narrowed it down between 10 pens of which to choose from. I think I have plenty of blue and EF pens for now, and my goal up to now is to diversify my pen collection. I really like the OMAS. I really wanted an Italian pen, so the Delta, OMAS, and Stipula seem to be the most likely options for now. FYI: It will be my 15th birthday, so I want to make it a good and memorable pen. (* indicates pens I will most likely purchase at the time of this post, subject to change) EDIT: I should mention that the purchase date is later in August

I am looking for a bottled ink for fountain pens that is close in color and qualities to Pentel EnerGel black. I know those pens use a gel hybrid ink, so I am looking for something close. They are my favorite ballpoints, maybe tied with V5 Precise RT. I will be using the ink in a Lamy Al-Star EF. I have Noodler's Bad Black Moccasin, but there is no sheen, and it has a wierd green tone to it. I want pure black. I do not want India ink or carbon or pigmented inks. So which ink is closest to what I am looking for? Pure black is a must (no color undertones, not even gray), some sheen would be a bonus. I do not see anything in Noodler's line like that except maybe X-Feather, which I have had no experience with. I believe Bad Black Moccasin and X Feather are supposed to be the darkest Noodler's inks, despite HoD, so I would venture to guess that Noodler's is out. I have not tried Infinite Black by PR. I have heard good things, but not necessarily about its color. Does anyone have experience with Aurora Black or J Herban Perle Noire? Do they have these wanted qualities? Do you have any other ink suggestions? Thanks ahead for the input.

Images are attached due to size, specifically I am looking at the all black Conklin, the Dolcevita and the Aurora. I believe that the Conklin is a Symetrik, and the Aurora is an 88, but I'm just not quite sure. The seller seems to have very limited information outside of brand, so any help is appreciated. Also, some guestimations on price point would be very helpful. Asking price is 825 for those three, 200 for the Conklin, 150 for the Aurora, and 425 for the Dolce.....the dolce especially seems quite high.
