  1. I bought a new Platinum #3776 Century Bourgogne B nib for myself. While looking the transulence body in the daylight I saw some bubbles and the plastic looks like melted and weeping inside the body. So did anyone noticed this problem. I went to the pen store and check the other pens and they are the same. But you can not see it in the 3776 Motosu or Shoji.

  5. Hello dear FPNers!, Today I received my much awaited Oliver F27 Fountain Pen in the post from our trustworthy Mr. Subramaniam of ASApens.in. I had requested the Blue acrylic variant of the pen because i love the colour. It was not listed on the site but dear Mr. subramaniam arranged it for me and shipped it. Now, although our fellow FPN member, Mr Mohit has excellently reviewed the pen; I am reviewing it because mine is a different colour and I just felt like sharing.Okay, so when i opened the package, i just stared at the pen in awe...for a while! And here's why... The acrylic on this pen is Just so "fluid" and with all that shimmer, i just felt like i am holding a frozen part of the sky in my hand! Hence the title. And yes that's geeky CONSTRUCTION is bold and sturdy but on the lighter side which makes writing a pleasure for long durations. And trust me, you would want to keep on writing with this pen! Look at all that acrylic (However, the pictures don't do justice to the beauty of the pen as usual.) The Cap is solid and clicks satisfactorily and securely in place. The Clip has just the right amount of tension to fit properly in a pocket. The finial. The Section has just enough girth for me to hold comfortably. P.S. The black line on the cap in this image is an editing mistake and is not present on the pen itself. The NIB is just.... I like broader nibs and the Schmidt nib unit on this pen is just perfect! It is so smooth and wet! That's Chelpark turquoise on the nib bdw in case you were wondering The pen comes with an option to add a Schmidt converter with your purchase on ASApens.in but i did not buy it because it was a little steep for me. And a standard international converter fitted just well in my pen. The writing sample. (My instagram edit.) Conclusion. I give it a 10/10! Yes, it is that good for the price! The acrylic is surreal, the writing; Superb. It is well balanced in hand, well constructed, the filling system is well, standard but also convenient. I cannot ask for more of the pen. If you are considering buying it, the only deal breaker for some might me the nib width as it is only available in Medium size. But other than that, its a steal! As per Mr. subramaniam, the pen company is going to cease producing the pen and it will not be restocked again. So grab one if you want to!
  6. I recently tarnished a clear monteverde artista. Some rubbing alcohol got into the inside of the cap and created a thin, white, opaque film. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this, or should I just give up on this? I've managed to clear out a lot of the tarnish by rubbing it off with plastic picks and other miscellaneous items, but there are small crevices that can't be reached. Some people have suggested rinsing the cap out in acetone or MEK, but I'm worried doing that will ruin the cap beyond repair. Any suggestions or help is much appreciated.
  7. I had originally posted this as a reply to another post. Someone kindly suggested that I should create a separate post for this. Well, suggestion taken, and thank you. On my last visit to the Gem shop in Chennai to pick up a Gama Royal, I got into a discussion on Oversize pens - and I was shown this Gama Acrylic clear/see-through pen. Of course, I just had to have it. Apart from a couple of Wality/Airmail pens with clear barrels, I did not have an Indian ED Demonstrator. This one is beautiful just for the transparent section and the way in which the nib and feed clearly show through. . It is approximately the size of a Guider Zimbo and slightly smaller than a Deccan Masterpiece.. Hope you enjoy this. Cheers, Sudhir
  8. Good Morning, Everyone (well, morning in the CST anyway)! Before I start my review, allow me to preface it by saying: My handwriting is horrible. It's bad. It's horrid. It's not good. I've been told many times that I missed my calling as a Doctor based solely on my penmanship. Please do not expect my letters to be flowing, evenly spaced, in neat parallel lines. In fact, this was my biggest barrier to posting my first review, being self-conscious about my ability to write in block letters or cursive. So, on we go to the review. I ordered this pen from Goulet Pens. My path to this pen was as follows: I had a fountain pen as a child (which I lost), and later received a MontBlanc as a gift (which the gifter lost, so I married her). At the tender age of 43 I decided to buy a new one. After extensive and detailed research lasting all of 5 minutes, I ordered a Conklin Duragraph and after using it realized that I wanted something better (and also reminded myself to slow down, smell the roses and do a little more research before making a purchase). That's when I ordered the Edison Herald in Copper Flake acrylic. My Duragraph has a fine nib, which I did not like, so I bumped up to a medium nib. The pen arrived well packaged (with a Tootsie pop!) and inside was the Edison box. Comparing the giant sloppy "trying to be really nice but failing miserably" box that the Duragraph arrived in, the Edison box was right-sized, had an attractive appearance inside and out (including this for those who care about the boxes). Inside was this beauty. What a gorgeous colored pen. I had ordered a set of ink samples in dark red, and ended up buying a bottle of Noodler's Antietam to match the color of the pen. My second choice would be Diamine Red Dragon, which also matches nicely (a bit redder, a bit darker). The cap is a nice fit and the threads match up nicely (not so tight that you worry about cracking the cap). The clip is well proportioned to the pen, and is positioned so that a small bit of the top peaks out of your pocket (if you carry one in the chest pocket). I like that, as it's a conversation starter. The pen is smooth, and is lightly engraved "Edison Pen Co." over "Herald". I'm guessing it's a laser engraving. I filled the pen using the included converter, although I could set it up as an eyedropper, too. Since I was trying different inks, I stuck with the converter. I wrote with the pen posted, and unposted. I prefer unposted, because it seems to "snuggle" into my hand a little more comfortably. The ink flowed smoothly and right at the 7/10 wetness that Edison promises. The nib is smooth, and writes with a light touch (you know when you've hit the pressure sweet spot because the pen just floats across the paper). No scratchiness, not "toothy", just a wonderful nib that wants to move faster than my hand (and brain!) can write. Summary: Appearance 10/10 - Absolutely gorgeous. For full effect, get it outside in full sunlight. WOW! Wetness: 7/10 Smoothness of nib: 9/10 - It's not a slippery nib, and it's far, far nicer than the Conklin nib that I had been using. Ergonomics: 10/10 - This pen just feels nice in the hand. Warm, light, comfortable curves, the nib section is nicely contoured and fits my short, thick fingers nicely Sealing (how well the cap seals against drying out): 9/10 - I get the occasional dry start, but I think that's more the ink than it is the pen. I think the Red Dragon ink would make this a 10/10. Weight: 10/10 - I prefer a lighter weight pen because I get hand cramps on a regular basis (always have, since a small child). Overall: 9.5/10 - Not rating it a 10/10 because someday, I may find a better pen. Possibly. I'll revisit this in 10 years and maybe change it to a 10/10 :-)
  9. I have a very special Konrad in the two-blued marbled marianas acrylic coming and I'd like to give it its first trial run with a matching sheeny ink in the blue to aqua ranges. Any favourites you'd like to recommend? (The sheeny thread doesn't always show the 'normal' colour of inks as the shots are generally angled to capture the sheen.)
  10. This past year I have delved into the blackhole of fountain pens and cannot get out! I like it though. Anyways, I primarily have stuck to Aluminum bodied pens for their heft and durability. I really want to make the jump and buy let's say an Edison or Franklin Christoph FP which are made of Acrylic (Resin). Unable to go to a local pen shop to try one out I rely on reviews. So my main concern is if Acrylic pens will break if there is so much as a slight mishandle or temperature change. Thank you for your time and look forward for your responses! Be easy on me I am still learning more about FP's.
  11. Hi fellow forumites! Here is an ideal pen for someone new to fountain pens. I would prefer it to go to someone new so please let your conscience be your guide on this. So, what do you have to do? NOTHING! Just PM me and tell me you want it. I will select a recipient Wed 17th December (midnight GMT, that's midday (on the 18th) here in NZ, and about 7pm in New York, 2pm in San Francisco). GOOD LUCK! This pen comes from Nordic Pen Imports in Sweden. When it arrived it was accompanied by 3 nib units (fine, medium and broad) and a converter. The nibs screw in - dead easy! The pen is made of acrylic in a kind of tortoiseshell pattern and is translucent to strong light. Although there is a converter this pen can be used as an eye-dropper. All it would need is a little silicone grease on the section threads and away you go! Would take a lot of ink I guess. The converter and nib units are German made Schmidt products. I fitted the fine nib, inked it with Diamine Imperial Purple and can report that it writes very smoothly indeed. I have not tried the other nibs beyond a very quick dip test on the broad (also majorly smooth!). The pen is little over 5 1/4 inches long (about 13.5cm) with the cap screwed on. PLEASE NOTE: I WILL SHIP FOR FREE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD BUT IT WILL BE ON THE CHEAPEST TICKET (if the winner wants insurance then they will have to contribute to that). Additional note: Sorry about the dusty and slightly out of focus photos. Decades of practice has not improved my skills with a camera I'm afraid.

  13. Hello FPN members and guests! Today i will be reviewing the pen(Wality/Airmail 70AM) that i received just today through asapens.in. But before i start the review i would like to give a "thumbs up!" to ASA pens and Mr. L.Subramaniam! It was my 1st purchase from their site and i must say i am quite pleased with their service and the quality of the product and also the FP collection that they have. Okay, so that aside lets start with the pen itself. Airmail Pen Company was established in 1951 by Late Shri. Mohan L. Mirchandani and is one of the oldest of its kind in India. It produces two brands of Writing Instruments, Wality and Airmail. The pen, along with the usual packaging and bubble wrap came in a transparent and sturdy Zip-lock pen pouch. The pouch also contained a little eyedropper as it is an eyedropper pen. The pen itself has this beautiful Pinkish orange and purple acrylic body which shimmers in light and is very pleasing to the eye. The material also displays quite a depth to it. The cap is all metal with a beautiful texture, a dome shaped pointed top and an acrylic bottom that matches the pen body quite nicely. I also like the short clip, which has enough tension to it that it can secure the pen firmly in the pocket. Upon unscrewing the cap, you find a matching coloured semi-transparent grip section with a gold coloured airmail nib. The nib that i received was Fine-Medium in writing width and Very Very Wet! And i mean a GUSHER! It wrote quite pleasantly with some feedback. Also, it has some spring to it which offers a marginal line variation. WRITING SAMPLE: Conclusion: It is a simple no-nonsense beautiful looking pen which performs quite nicely. I am looking forward to writing with it regularly and enjoying the shimmery acrylic which is sure to be an eye candy in bright sunlight! If you are looking for a beautiful economical everyday pen this one might add a feather to your collection!
  14. Below is my attempt at reviewing together the four pens made by the Ranga Handmade company that I own. [i will also put up a copy of this review on my blog fpensnme.blogspot.in]
  15. -This review is an adapted version of the one that can be found on my personal blog (www.pencilcaseblog.com). Visit my blog for more pictures, a copy of the written review and of course many other pen, pencil, paper and ink reviews. Enjoy the review! (Full Delta Journal review: http://www.pencilcaseblog.com/2014/10/delta-journal-fusion-stub-nib.html )- I often say I hate brightly colored pens, which is easily noticeable because about 90 percent of my collection consists of black or grey pens. However, things have changed recently! There's been a few non-black pens recently that just caught my attention right away. One of these pens is the Delta 'The Journal' in Pearl red. The moment I saw it in real life (Which was also the first time I heard of the 'journal' collection from Delta!), it was just desitined to become mine! I got mine at a pretty good price from Fontoplumo while I was at the Tilburg pen show. Surprisingly enough, Fontoplumo is -for now at least- the only european retailer I know that sells these. This is the first Delta in my collection, and I'm thoroughly impressed with the design, the performance, the packaging... everything really! The rather large dimensions (long, but especially wide. Something that can be seen more often with Deltas offerings!) Are also part of the WOW-factor with this pen. It's not ridiculous, but it starts to lean towards oversized. A bit like the E-motion from Faber-Castell, it's big, and it feels big, but it doesn't bother me the least! The grip section too is fairly wide, though perfectly shaped (You guessed it: concave-shaped!) I can't help but think concave-shaped grip sections are the best! I can't be the only one who thinks that, right?! The build quality is -almost- spot on, with two imperfections that slightly bothered me. First of all, the decorative ring at the top of the section, just above the threads, rotates. It's strange though, it rotates, but it doesn't move up or down at all! Now I can live with that, because it really isn't noticeably when using the pen. The second issue is a bit more frustrating: the gold part of the nib (the 'fusion' part if you will.) is scuffed quite badly. And the fact that the metal part (the nib itself) is perfectly polished makes it even more obvious to the eye! If i had to put a score on build quality, these two small flaws would make me rate it 6 or 7 out of 10, which is a shame because I'm one-hundred percent sure Delta can do better! The rest of the pen is pretty much flawless. Fit and finish is spot on, except for the ever so slightly noticeable 'bump' where the blind cap meets the barrel - no big deal though. All parts are perfectly polished, and seem to be quite scratch-resistant! As I mentioned, I absolutely love the color scheme! The red is vibrant, though not over the top, and the pearlescent silver flecks give the material a lot of depth. Together with the subtle ruthenium-plated hardware, this is one very good looking pen! The Journal has a very satisfying and well-balanced weight. It's by no means heavy, it just feels right (I'm sorry if that's the most vague description you ever heard!). The cap doesn't hold much weight on its own, so posting is actually surprisingly comfortable as well. A small and almost not noticeable detail I really like about it, is the subtly engraved Delta logo and pen number on the back of the cap (It's a numbered edition, not limited!). It's the only branding on the outside of the pen, and it looks just right! As I mentioned, this pen comes with a cartridge converter, though it's a semi-integrated one. This basically means the pen can be filled like a traditional piston-filler by unscrewing the blind cap, which reveals the piston knob. It comes packaged with a small bottle of Delta blue ink, so everything is included to get started! Now for the 'magic and unicorns' part of the review. Or as most people would call it: the nib! The Fusion nib is often mocked for being wasted money and a load of nonsense! And I can't but agree with those opinions! Yes, it's an expensive nib, especially because you're still writing with steel, the gold addition doesn't physcally do anything, except for making the nib stiff as a nail! The fact that they put a piece of gold on top of a piece of steel is nothing more than a Fashion statement at most! But you won't hear me complain about it, because nonsense or not, this nib is GOOD! It's a broad 1.5mm stub, and it's the best I have (compared to a lamy 1.5 and a pretty solid second: the TWSBI 1.5 stub!). It's very smooth, the flow is spot on, wet and consistent enough to deal with every situation (I encountered absolutely NO skipping at all!) and the amount of shading that can be achieved is awesome! I too was, or rather, am skeptical about the actual use of the gold layer, but man! This nib is pretty darn awesome! Easily one of the best steel nibs I ever used! The great performance shouldn't be a surprise, because for a steel-nibbed pen, it's pretty expensive! It can be bought with a normal steel nib for around 150 EUR/ 200 USD, while the Fusion version goes for a quite hefty 250 EUR/ 350 USD! It doesn't feel overpriced though, I absolutely love the way it looks, and apart from some small particular issues, it's very well-made. If you're really not keen on the red pearl finish, there are other beautiful acrylics available as well as different trim options!
  16. The title says is all..what do you guys think? Has anyone had the chance of owning both types? My birthday is getting near and I want to give myself a nice fountain pen. Right now I own a resin Konrad, with a modified nib (for added flex) and I'm absolutely in love! Which do you think is sturdier/better made or overal prettier ? Cheers!

    Green Kit Pen

I've had this green acrylic sitting around for a while, and an Aristocrat fountain pen kit. So I combined the two on my Harbor Freight lathe and came up with this: Next I'll have to try a kitless, about how many 4 1/2 inch blanks does it take to make a kitless?
  18. This is my first review, so I hope I get the balance right. I was recently in Sydney and spent some of a Sunday afternoon at The Rocks, which has an excellent weekend street-market. One of the stall-holders makes and sells pens – including fountain pens – under the brand, Taskovski. I hadn't planned on buying a pen, but I saw the Dominium in green, picked it up, tested it, and was sold. I did force myself to walk around a bit first, but then returned and bought it. I think I’m the first person to review this pen. Appearance & design: 9/10 – beautiful design and colour Green translucent acrylic, with black swirls, shines in the light. Two-tone nib. Fairly short pen. Black plastic section. Silver, no-nonsense metal clip. No metal band on cap. Tapered ends. Has something of a cigar shape. Simple lines meet modern design. Looks to me like a slightly smaller green version of an Edison Collier Persimmon Swirl, a pen that I have been eyeing for a while. Beautiful. Construction & quality: 8/10 – solid and well-made Very well made, with no blemishes. The pen feels warm and tactile to hold. The clip is firm with some spring. The parts of the pen fit together very well. The cap screws closed securely (the seller cautioned against over-tightening), and it posts securely. The stainless-steel nib is made by Bock: nib and feed are perfectly aligned, and the pen wrote straight out of the box. I don’t know how robust acrylic is, but I would not like to test dropping it on a hard surface. Weight and dimensions: 7/10 – short and lightweight, not too thin A well-proportioned pen. It is light and short when capped. As you can see from the pictures, the pen tapers, from its thinnest point at the back end of the barrel, to its thickest point where the section meets the barrel. I usually prefer something slightly bigger and heavier, so I’m docking points based on my personal preferences. But it is definitely thick enough to hold comfortably in my large hands. You need to post to write comfortably, but that’s how I like to write anyway, and it's perfectly balanced when posted. I don’t have callipers, so the following dimensions are subject to some measurement error, particularly the barrel width: Length, capped: 126mm (4.96”)Length, uncapped: 101mm (3.98”)Length, posted: 148mm (5.83”)Girth (barrel, thickest part): 13mm (0.51”)Section length: 20mm (0.79“)Nib length: 24mm (0.94“)Weight, without cartridge: 14g (0.49 oz) Nib & performance: 8/10 – smooth writer Nib. Two-tone steel nib made by Bock, with Taskovski decoration (sword crossed by a quill, and stars at the front of the nib, brand name just in front of the section). The letter between the brand name and the crossed logo is a T (i.e., not an indication of nib size). It's a nice-looking nib. It looks a bit too big for the unposted pen, but is about right when you post it (it's made for posting). Only available in Medium at the market. Performance. It's a firm nib, but not a 'nail'. I wouldn't recommend doing so, but you could squeeze out a little line variation if you really wanted to. Writing is very smooth, flow is good, and moderately wet. Reverse writing is possible, though scratchy. Feed keeps up well with normal writing, but can struggle a bit with extended fast writing (some skipping). The Medium is on the Fine end of the Medium spectrum, and is very good for everyday writing. For comparison, it writes a little finer than the Fine nib on my modern Pelikan 800. Excellent for note taking, comfortable for longer writing. Can be a slight hard-starter on high-quality non-absorbent paper if it has been unused for a while, but a gentle tap or two is all it takes to restart. I have only written with the supplied black ink cartridge, so cannot comment on performance with different inks. Overall, I am very happy with the writing performance, but I dock a point each for the minor issues of flow and hard-start. Filling system and maintenance: 7/10 – classic, simple cartridge Standard international short cartridges only; could take a mini-converter. There are no metal parts, so I'm sure it could be used as an eyedropper (though doing so may stain the inside of the barrel). I'm not all that keen on cartridges, though of course they are easy and mess-free, and the system works very well with this pen. Maintenance is very simple. I don't know whether the nib can be removed from the feed - looks like a friction-fit - but it's a very simple design and the cap can be entirely dismantled. Cost and value: 8/10 – worth the price The seller has a website which prices the Dominium at AUS$99 (~US$93), as of June 2014. I bought it at a lower price from the seller’s market stall (there is a standard discount compared to the website). I found it good value, particularly if you consider that Australia is an expensive place generally (by comparison, a standard paperback cost me AUS$22.90 in June 2014; ~US$21.60). Conclusion: total rating (47/6=) 7.8/10 I like this pen, and am very pleased I bought it. I would buy it again and would be happy to give it as a present. I have no plans to sell it and expect it to be in my rotation for some time. There are some parts I'm not that keen on - detailed above - but on the whole it's a good pen, as reflected in the score. The positive buyer experience is an added recommendation. Of course, it's an Australian product, so it has limited availability. For me, that adds to the charm. Postscript: Customer service (not part of the pen’s rating): 9/10 This is a small business and you'd be buying from the manufacturer. The customer service you get is therefore relevant. The seller was friendly, knowledgeable and informative, at pains to explain the parts of the pen and its maintenance. He took the pen apart to show me how it fits together, to ensure that I’d be able to clean it properly. The pen comes with a package of 5 standard international short ink cartridges (wide choice of colours), and a two-year warranty-card. A nice touch was that I could choose whether the box would have gold or silver lettering.

  20. I posted this in the First stop section, but it has yet to be answered. If this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it. Hello. I've just gotten my Sheaffer Valor and have been using it for a few days at school. I haven't been doing anything that may have caused it like running around or dropping it, but there seems to be a faint mark on different parts of the acrylic pen. I suspect these may be capping/posting marks, as they are in the right place and are in ring shapes. There is one directly below the nib, one on the upper body and one at the very tip. If a fellow owner of an acrylic pen could assist in identifying these marks and any potential tips on maintenance and perhaps a solution to this, it would be greatly appreciated.

  22. Hey, guys! Just got a new Noodler's Konrad Acrylic flex pen today...it writes SUPER scratchy. I'm pretty new to fountain pens and all. What can I do to fix this issue?
  23. So, I've decided to get me one of these. I can't really make up my mind between Forbidden City, Olde Salem or Victory Garden, although I've put the other colours in my poll too. I'll give it a few hours then order away!
  24. Boy gosh, I sure would like a rich royal blue celluloid or acrylic pen with bold crimson red veins. It would be my designated royal blue pen, and I'd put royal blue ink in it, and it would dry to show rich blue coloring and have a crimson sheen. Yes, I would really like a pen like that. Its color name would just be Royal Blue. I'd love a Noodler's Konrad with that color. In fact, I'd love several of them. (The Royal blue Lamy Safari's blue was not a rich ultramarine. It was just sky blue. Not good enough) But as for colors I'm very glad exist, I'm super happy that The Zuni Ahab is like jeans, with ink stains and gold threading. I pair it up with Diamine Denim, and it was always meant to be. The pink tiger is interesting. I initially got it just because it was on sale, and fortunately I got one with a really good nib. It reminds me of a strawberry desert dessert, with the strawberries and whipped cream, but the black part is like licorice, and I don't think licorice would go well with strawberries and cream (but IDK, I never tried that combo). I would recommend the black part be switched to brown, because chocolate syrup would be more fitting on strawberries and cream, and it wouldn't have such a harsh look to it. And also the black clip on the gray Safari is too harsh against the matte 20% gray. But the black clip looks excellent on the charcoal Safari. And the two of them do make a good pair. What if I switched the black clip on the Gray to a chrome clip? Maybe I should try that sometime. so you can go ahead and blah about what pen colors you'd like, do like, or think could stand to be different.

The pens were poor starters and skippers with their original feeds and nibs ! . I was very unhappy with the pen which remained in my cupboard for months. Later the single channel feed was replaced by a NoNonsense feed and nib by a “ pre smoothened “ no name China nib by Pen House at Kovai. Now it is a dream writer! Thanks for reading Mohan.
