  1. From the album: Odds and ends

The Hobonichi Day-Free Cover BS Lite in A5 size will fit around a Leuchtturm1917 Medium (A5) hardcover notebook (with 251 pages of 80g/m² paper) — or a Nitoms STALOGY 365 Days A5 notebook (with 184 sheets, or 368 pages) for that matter — just fine, and close properly, even though the product was expressly designed for the much thinner Hobonichi Day-Free Book (A5 size) that is only 8mm-thick. Notwithstanding some product reviews I've read complaining about the pen holder loops on the Day-Free BS Lite cover, the manufacturer has clearly stated, leaving little room for misinterpretation, and they do in fact work that way, even with a thicker book in the cover.

  3. A Smug Dill

Contact's Family leather A5 notebook cover

    From the album: Gross

The included-in-asking-price laser engraving of a “name” turned out pretty well, even though I asked for unconventional placement, of a fairly long text string at that.

  4. I have handwritten notes that need to be constantly reorganised and replaced. I am looking for a binding for loose sheets of A5 paper, ideally one that does not require punching. I want to keep the leaves intact, without holes. Do you have a suggestion for a quality binder that you like to use?
  5. In need of a dot journal quickly, I decided to try the Ottergami. In general I am quite pleased, though I fear it may actually be too heavy for optimum portability; this is due to a combination of high page count (192 pages) and thick paper (150GSM). The pen loop is a bit narrow, though nice to have, but I eventually realized a Pilot Metropolitan will fit. Photos show size relative to the pen, and also relative to an Endless Recorder notebook(my preferred journal). Unlike the Endless, it does not have pre-numbered pages, which I miss. The paper is thicker than than in the Endless. The both have back pockets, elastic closure, and place-keeping ribbons; the Endless has page numbers and a Table of Contents, which the Ottergami lacks. The Ottergami has a pen holder(albeit a tiny one)and stencils, which the Endless lacks. I will update with thoughts in a few months. Inside photo with Pen
  6. I just thought I'd share the ‘opportunity’ with others who'd want to squeeze the last bit out of the changing landscape. Milligram in Australia is having a 30%-off sale for selected products, including several Sakae Technical Paper Tomoe River FP (paper pad, and 50- and 100-sheet packs of loose sheets) products. I didn't see any low stock warnings for any (white or cream, 52gsm or 68gsm, A4 or A5, etc.) product variant when I looked just now. (Yes, I think these are all made from the ‘old’ paper produced by Tomoegawa's paper milling machine no.7.) The ‘Friends For Life’ discount supposedly do not apply to these sale products, but in fact it does in the checkout process. I was prompted by an email from Milligram yesterday (with the subject "$40 gift from us to you - that's what friends are for!”) advising inconsistently that “we're changing our loyalty program” and “We've changed our loyalty program”. (It looks like the change has been implemented, and “For Life” and ”Forever” no longer mean what the average person would think the marketing expressions mean.) The voucher code can be applied to further bring down the total value of the order. Free shipping applies if the discounted total value of an order (i.e. payment due in real money) exceeds the relevant threshold. Given that Kobe INK Story has been taken off Milligram's catalogue, Robert Oster inks in selected colours are seldom individually discounted any more, and the shop's prices of Pilot Iroshizuku inks have gone up significantly all in the last year or so, there just isn't a whole lot to buy from Milligram at some cost-saving (compared to ordering from Amazon AU or overseas retailers) any more. Most of the heavily discounted clearance products are now shifted over to Milligram Outlet by default, where the loyalty programme discounts and free shipping offer do not apply. So, as much as I'm not a fan of Tomoe River FP paper, to take advantage of dying loyalty benefits before they are extinguished, I foolishly bought a few packs with no clear application in mind, and will probably end up giving away to kiddies on which to draw.
  7. I'm curious to hear people's thoughts and motivations as to whether you choose a hard or a soft cover notebook for journaling. I know that this is a very personal choice for most. Alot has to do I imagine with how you journal, or where and when you write, I would imagine. So, if you had to live with one journal or notebook for journaling, what would it be, and why? In my case, I tend to use medium-sized notebooks. A5 size is about right for me, for portability and weight, especially if you pack it around like I do, nearly all of the time, in my man-purse. . Soft covers just weigh less, generally. A5 is the size I'm inquiring about here. I don't always write at tables, usually jotting things down on the go wherever I might be. Here, hardcovers help, but I manage with a soft cover as needed. I generally don't carry a small pocket notebook, and then transfer my writing to the larger one. I don't generally like to use paper scraps that are just lying around, thinking I will do the same. I try to keep everything together in one notebook, and I usually don't get around to transcribing writing from one book to another. I know that paper choice is personal, and there are alot of factors that effect that choice. Not only size, but paper and paper color, line width spacing(assuming you use a lined journal. I do), margins and borders, numbering etc. Obviously, pen choice matters, as well. I will assume the archival, acid free nature of the paper, and maybe where it was made matters so some. It matters to me. I tend to think in terms of long-term storage and hopefully the viability of ink on paper, as much as I can control that. Some people will just write on anything they can get their hands on, without too much concern for the above. I want to hear from you too. So, if you go to the trouble of getting it down on paper, whatever "that" is, does the cover you choose matter? Or, are scraps of paper just fine, and if so, why?
  8. Howdy FPers, I've a new PIF. This time I have two Rhodia A5 size tablets. They are unlined, 90 g, Ivory colored paper. I normally use lined format & ordered these by mistake. They are for anyone meeting the prerequisites. Postage paid to CONUS. I will throw in another tablet, that is also an A5, but it is one of my many lined formats 😊. Requirements : Gold Level Members for 4 months Must not have won in my last PIF, January CONUS only NOT a requirement, but a sample of writing on said paper would be nice. This will run 7 days from the date I see it posted. Enjoy, this isn't a hugh PIF, but it is really nice paper. 😎. aggie
