  1. Almost 5 months ago I "designed" and had this pen case tailor-made for me: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii33/mmmcosta/Watches/PenCase_zps27acfdc3.jpg Here's the story: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/245327-tailor-made-pen-case/ Earlier today the cartridge went empty - in the small side pocket, a spare was available for replacement. Best! Marcelo

    Which Waterman Is It?

Hi guys, The advertisement said it was a waterman phileas. But I could never find a phileas in chrome. So what is this ? The nib = medium (steel), writes like a charm Nib & cap for you Compared with a sheaffer No-nonsense And oh, in case you are wondering, I am using this with waterman havana
  3. Well I just got my waterman hemisphere along with a converter,I usually use catridges so I've been pretty much been using watermann intense black and Florida blue on my old waterman Phileas.Since I have a converter now I've decided to get some inks to experiment around.Any suggestions? And I've grown a small liking for the Mont Blanc midnight blue, but some people have been telling me that it could clog my pen due to iron gall and so on.Anyone have tried it before?

    Pelikan M400 Skipping

Dear fountain pen experts and amateurs alike, I was hoping someone might be able to help me figure out why my new pen skips and perhaps even find a cure for it. A few days ago, my brand new Pelikan M400 White Tortoise arrived in the mail. It looked gorgeous, and I was excited to fill it up with some Waterman Intense Black. I did so, and unfortunately, the pen skipped quite a bit. I thought the problem might be that the ink that I used came from a bottle that I opened a long time ago (about a year and a half ago), and so I emptied out the pen and inked it up again with the the same type of ink (Waterman Intense Black), but from a newer bottle (opened only about three months ago). The pen skipped less, but still enough to bother me. So yesterday evening, I emptied the pen again, meticulously flushed it three times (first with clean water, then with soapy water, then again with clean water), and inked it up again (still with Waterman Intense Black). Performance drastically improved, there was hardly any skipping. It still worked beautifully this morning, and then again this afternoon. But then an hour ago, it started skipping again! There's plenty of ink left (it's more than half-full, as can be seen through the translucent barrel), so it's not that. I also know that skipping can sometimes be due to a baby bottom. Unfortunately, I don't have a loupe (I ordered one, but it hasn't arrived yet), so I can't check. However, I used the pen fairly extensively for 24 hours with no trouble, which makes me think it's unlikely that the problem is caused by a baby bottom. Essentially, I have no idea why my pen might perform beautifully for 24 hours, and then suddenly go back to its old ways. Is it bothered by the full moon or something?? Any and all ideas are welcome.
  5. I recently acquired an unusual Waterman pen. I know it is in celebration of the 100 anniversary of Allianz but past that i am clueless. The nib is 18k gold and says waterman ideal paris 18k 750 france. I know the bands and clip are gold. The silver metal is not a base metal according to a local jeweler and is some sort of precious metal. It is probably silver or silver plating. the top of the cap has the Allianz logo and around the cap band it say waterman 100 jahre Allianz. When the pen is written with the pen leaks ink between the band adjacent to the nib and the grip. Can i fix this? what kind of pen is this? what is it worth?
  6. Back in 1998 or 1999 I wrapped up a course in computer science. To celebrate, my father-in-law gave me some money with the instruction to "spend it foolishly." Since I always follow FIL's advice, I converted the money to a Waterman "Night and Day" Le Man 200 fountain pen. It's a lovely pen with a sterling silver and black lacquer barrel and cap. Recently (I must have done something I shouldn't have, but I don't know what) I managed to break the inside portion of the section. The feed is fine, and the outer grip portion of the section is fine, but the threaded part that connects the part that surrounds the feed to the part that screws into the barrel has broken, like this: For context, here's the whole pen disassembled: Does anyone have the appropriate part(s) they'd like to sell me? Alternatively, can I swap in the right part(s) from another model? The pen was purchased in 1998 or 1999. The gift box doesn't give a model name or number, but the outer package identifies it as a Le Man 200 "Night and Day" model. Many thanks. I do love this pen and I'd like to get back to using it. -Martin
  7. I'm using fountain pens for the last 2-3 years and only recently started buying new ones. I have four different pens: Kaweco sport, Waterman Hemisphere, Lamy Vista and a $0.5 Tesco fountain pen. Oddly enough, the last one outperforms all others, on any paper and any conditions. I would like to understand what's wrong and how things should be. I either got bad pens or have wrong expectations Here are my questions: Is it normal that a pen writes very differently depending on the paper? I.e. printing paper (100g/m2) vs lighter one (60g/m2) vs smoother/rougher? Example: Lamy becomes scratchy and writes really bad on printing paper. It's the same with Waterman. Kaweco/Tesco swallow anything I put them on though. Is the line volume and color supposed to be diluted on certain places? Example: only Tesco has a consistent line. Others have diluted parts here and there. Is it normal that a pen doesn't write in just slightly off angles? Example: Waterman is completely unusable if I rotate it a bit or increase the slant. Others are a bit better, but still Tesco allows the greatest flexibility. Thanks in any case - hope this makes sense!

Best Ink For A White Pen?

The pen in question is a white Waterman Hemisphere, with a medium nib. The section is black so I'm not too worried about staining while I'm filling. But what do you suggest I fill with? Until now, I've always had a same-ish colour ink and pen (eg Red Lamy Safari has Skrip Red, Blue Sheaffer 330 has Diamine Denim, etc) but white ink would be... well, silly, for a student. I considered perhaps pink?

    Love My "new" Vintage Waterman

Yesterday I fell in love with a fountain pen/mechanical pencil duo at Laywine's in Toronto (yes Dear Reader I bought them) and now am trying to find out as much as I can about both of them, e.g. it might be difficult to find more leads for the pencil. FPN seems a treasure trove of information about all matters related to pens, ink, and their history. So far I've discovered that the pen is an "Ideal" made in Canada probably 1933, with a marbled burgundy celluloid (?) case, 14 k. nib and something called a "flex" nib (?). Much as I love fountain pens, and use my old Montblanc, my new Lamy calligraphic, and a sturdy, plain, reliable old Shaeffer "M" plus a couple of little Pilots, I feel woefully ignorant about them. I've recently discovered that Pilot makes some extraordinary pens, Namiki: met my first one visting another fountain-pen wielding friend. A store in this city apparently sells them, so some day I'll venture to explore, but am worried I'l fall in love with another pen. This lovely little Waterman is a joy to write with, loaded with Lamy Royal Blue ink -- feels like part of my hand, and there's no resistance at all when it glides over paper. NOW my question is: the issue of "pressure" when writing with such a pen: what difference does pressure make when writing? I've always let the pen decide . . . . .input from the experts among you would be welcome. AND -- would value advice about the quality of paper to write on. I now use Clairefontaine large format notebooks, and French letter-writing paper, but for "plain everyday" single sheets of writing paper?

  11. I really don’t believe it’s the standard service Waterman provides its customer and that’s why I’m sharing this bad experience here. In August 28th I personally delivered my faulty Waterman Carene nib to the Waterman customer service (CS) in Sao Paulo, at the Newell Rubbermaid office. I was told that in 30 days, max, I would have it back. As I did not get it back within a month and was not contacted by the CS to explain what happened I called them in October 08th, when I was informed I would receive a new nib and that it was on its way from France to Brazil. Today is December 2nd - in this period I called the CS a half-dozen times to know why I have not received the nib. The last call was this morning, when they told me the nib got missed and informed I should wait 30 more days for it to be delivered! Can you believe that? In an era of instantaneous communication and courier systems that can deliver a package anywhere in the globe overnight it’s completely unacceptable waiting two months, not to mention one more to come, for a nib to be delivered by Waterman CS! Regards, Marcelo

    Carene Marine Amber Color

I have been looking at the Carene Marine Amber. And I would have to get it online. However, having seen the images of the pen, its not exactly clear whether the appearance of the marine amber is of "reddish" or of "brownish" Can anyone having that FP comment on its appearance? Secondly, I find two terms being ued - "marine amber" and "amber shimmer" - are they different colors / shades of Carene? thanks

    Unknown Waterman

I was wondering what kind of waterman pen this is. It used to be my fathers and nothing came with it.
  15. Hi. This is my first post here on FPN, but I think I'll be posting more and more as time goes on. However, my first issue is the following. My mother-in-law brought a pen to me to identify. After looking at it, I obviously noticed it was a Waterman. However, the next question I had was, "how does it fill?!" I don't see anywhere where it will twist opened, or any kind of lever/buttons/etc on the body of the pen that indicates its filling mechanism. The feed is completely smooth. Flexible nib. Here's a link to some pictures I took of the pen: Gallery. I can take more or provide more details if necessary. I really just want to know how old the pen is, how it fills, and how to clean it. Thanks!
  16. Hello. I have a "made in England" Waterman's W5 pen. The section has a crack and I do not think I will be able to repair it. I am thinking of looking for a "for parts" pen to cannibalise for the section. But which other Waterman pens will have sections compatible with a W5? Thank you, Richard Phillips
  17. I am planning to buy a new FP. And I have shortlisted Waterman Carene and FCD Ondorro. Having used Waterman FPs before, I am bent towards Carene (besides its gorgeous looking nib) But want more unbiased view. I guess there are FPN members who may have experience with both. Pricewise, Ondorro may be half or three fourth of the Carene price depending on the Carene model. Having read so many reviews on the FPN regarding the two FPs, I am in a bit of dilemma. Plz give me one reason which of the two, when I take it out to write I would find AWESOME ! thanks

    Waterman - Mysterious Blue Ink

This is a follow up review of Waterman's Popular blue black ink, Mysterious Blue. After letting the ink sit in the pen for a couple of days, I did notice some initial flow problems. A twist or two on the converter solved that problem. In my initial review, the biggest problem with the ink in my opinion was some feathering. It was nothing terrible, but it did keep this ink out of the five star category of inks. I decided to write on some Rhodia paper, to see if there was a change in the feathering, as well as Franklin-Christoph's new line of paper (which I have found to be even better than Rhodia when it comes to feathering.) The feathering considerably went down, but it was still slightly there. Another plus, was I noticed no significant difference in the dry time on these other papers. Waterman Mysterious Blue.pdf To see the initial review, and reviews on other blue/black inks from "Made You Ink", follow the link below. http://bit.ly/1alVRgB Thanks for taking the time to read the post! 19. I inherited a gold fountain pen from my father - it may have belonged to his father. It may be what I think is called an "eye dropper ink loader". It has written on the top part of the case " WATERMAN'S IDEAL 18. KR.". On the lower part of the case in a different font, " Fonte Bracca ". Can you help me to learn about this mint condition, beautiful pen ? Thank you.
  20. We all have one. That certain pen that we are going to get "one of these days". And then when we finally get around to it, too late! They are sold out, discontinued, etc. (Some of)Mine are: 1. Waterman Phileas - I really wanted one of the "early" red marble ones (before there was any white in the swirl) 2. Lamy Safari Orange - they were serious about "limited edition" 3. Mont Blanc Meisterstruck - yes, I know these are still available, but at a substantial premium over what they sold for a few years ago. So what are some of yours?
  21. I post my Waterman Phileas pen and ink drawings at www.twelvedrawings.com Some background: I create drawings based on words associated with Twelve Step recovery. I use definitions found in a 1934 Webster's dictionary because some subtle changes have occurred since the AA Big Book was published in 1939. Pen and ink drawing have been a staple of popular art for centuries. I hope the artform will always endure—despite the advent of new computer software. There is a rather timeless quality about pen and ink drawings that can blur the lines between historical periods. That timelessness is an effect I deliberately try to achieve. Why? Becauase if I had one wish, it would be to help the younger reader look beyond the antique-sounding vocabulary found in recovery literature like the Big Book. Within that "grandfatherly" writing can be found very specific, definite, and practical instructions for those who wish to be freed from alcholic and addictive insanity. These illustrations are how I carry that message. I use 9 x 12" paper and a medium Waterman fountain pen—like the one seen in the drawing called "Difference"*. You will probably notice pencil sketch marks here and there on the drawings. I try to erase them because they are distracting to some people. To be honest, I draw mostly for my Higher Power and thankfully He has the job of being perfect, not me.
  22. I recently purchased a Waterman cartridge-fill pen and have no idea how old it is or what mark/model it is, any help would be appreciated. The top of the cap is angled and has the Waterman globe logotype; the clip has "Watermans USA" stamped on it vertically; the nib section is marked "X FINE" -- something I think is odd in a production model -- but there are no other markings. I haven't removed the nib and section, I think it's a friction fit instead of threaded but don't know for sure. Seller provided a Waterman cartridge, there was no converter furnished, I don't know if there's one available. The body itself is a medium grey; the cap appears to be brushed stainless steel. Thanks, Leon Posted (bottom pen): Cap with logotype: Cap clip: Nib and section:
  23. So...... It's a beautiful day here in Brisbane today. Sun is out. Everyone is in a good mood around the office. You get the picture. Well, I went out for my usual late afternoon lunch break; grabbed some excellent sushi..... Everything was going to plan! Everything, that is, until this...... I'm not sure how it happened - I'm not sure exactly what happened - I am reasonably sure however that my girlfriend will kill me because it did happen: Somehow, standing innocently in front of a shop window has led me to become the owner of a new pen!!!! As such, without any further adieu & with great pride - I'd like to introduce you all to the latest part of my small but oh so delightful (to me anyway) collection!! My beautiful new Waterman Phileas Solid Black with Gold Trim (Medium nib) : I'm still well & truly getting to grips with it (playing with my new toy is probably more of a fair statement) however I'm already a massive fan of how it writes - it truly does lay down ink superbly. On that note, I also picked up a bottle of Waterman Inspired Blue ink (I'm a firm believer that there is no point going "a little bit" broke!!) which is really interesting in how different it is from my usual "business-like" palette of colours. Anyway, thanks for letting me share! Now, where to hide the receipt????? Cheers everyone! Mike
  24. If anyone knows what the model of this pen is, its approximate value, when it was made, etc., I would greatly appreciate it. It is an English made Waterman's. It seems to me based upon the clip design and lever box that it was made sometime between 1937 and 1940 something but that is all I have. I love my Waterman Pens and this one is no exception. It has a very nice flexible nib. I've had it customized into a sharp fine Italic from the medium that it was originally. Before the customization the nib was not as nice as the earlier Waterman's that I am super fond of but now that it has been customized it is spectacular. In addition to the Black and Pearl English made Waterman's I am asking for help identifying I have attached my box of favorite Waterman's pens. 1. #3 2. #3 3. #32 4. UNKNOWN ENGLISH MADE Waterman's 5. #94 6. Silver Ray 7. Emerald Ray 8. #7 Red 9. #5 Red 10. #94 Persian Thanks in advance to you Waterman's experts for your kind help. Aloha, Todd

    Buying My First Waterman

Hello All, I have been consumed by the fountain pen world for about a year now after a lifelong obsession with pens, paper, notebooks, stationery and anything related. Why it took me so long to discover fountain pens is beyond me, but I'm very glad that I did. I've so far not invested more than $110.00 on a pen, but I know it's just a matter of time. My query is about Waterman Pens which I've heard mentioned over and over as beautiful writers with a rich history. I am particularly interested in a vintage flex pen although it may be more practical to stick with a conventional nib, which I am partial to italics, stubs and bold writers. Is there any advice that might be helpful and what kind of $$$ should I expect to spend. I hope this is the appropriate place to post this topic. I am still trying to find my way around. Thank you, David
