Anyway, it's not red. As long as you don't think of it as a red, you might like it.

Lamy (pronounced "LAH-mee") inks are not as cool as the bottles they come in, but it would be hard for them to be that cool.

Fig. 2: See? Cool bottle!

Not only does the bottle look like a UFO, but it had a deep depression in the middle there so you can get (very nearly) every last drop of ink, and has a roll of blotting paper in a dispenser around the bottom.

That's awesome!

Alas, their inks, in my experience (limited to two colors) are notso-hotso.

*edit: lost count of which Consumption Item I was on. Also I forgot to give credit to The Noble Savage for his review of this ink done back in '05.

I've never tried Lamy Red, but I like blue. The bottle is ultra functional. All-but-impossible to tip over.

Thanks for the review.

I'm a fan of the Lamy inks, particularly black, blue & turquoise. (I've yet to try the bottled, iron gall blue-black). However, I tried a cartridge of Lamy red and it is definitely pink to my eye. Is there any way to use another Lamy ink color to make the Lamy red "redder"? What about a tiny bit of black (which seems to have a blue "base")?

I have been wanting to try a Lamy ink as I really like their pens, but as far as red goes I will stick with the Slovenia Skrip Red. It a really bold pure red that demands attention on whatever page it it written on. I keep a red Parker "45" full of the stuff to grade papers.

Between PR Arabian Rose and Noodler's Shah Rose, I have enough pinkish ink already. Thanks for the review. I think I'll avoid this one, although I agree about the Lamy bottles (I have the blue-black and like it quite well).

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
